A completely empty movie made for profit on a generic PC hollywood formula
There is very little good to say about it. The movie is void of any significant story or dialogues, it lacks purpose and vision. Its rather an obvious and obnoxious mix of studio wishes for toy sales and trying to please as wide an audience as possible. So many things wrong dont know where to even begin.
First of all, Jar Jar, the ever annoying horrible Jar Jar from previous movies at least had a purpose as a (very poor) comic relief character. The fluffy penguins in Last Jedi on the other hand are 100% transparently there for no reason but toy sales. The action trumps everything in the movie. I have nothing against good action but come on. And the characters are so blatantly cliche and repeating themselves. Luke, a seemingly wise Jedi, perhaps fed up with everything but how does that make him a miserable, cold, heartless bast*ard. All of the characters are so black and white, its mind numbing. A good movie is a good movie, be it a simple comedic Thor Ragnarok or a thought provoking Matrix. But the Last Jedi is nothing of that, its a heartless product almost made by a (quality) hollywood generator machine working based on a formula of most prevalent cliches today and popular ideas/values. Also of course the SJW crowd had to have their say making all heroes, general, admirals whatever women and male hero black. And then throw in an asian sidekick, they mustnt be forgoten, that would be rasist. Its pathetic. The race or sex of characters shouldnt be forced,it should serve the story. It does anything but that here. It wasnt story first here. It was the marketing guy, the censor, the SJW representative and toy company. Only THEN came director, story, character. Expect no sight or smell of anything original, thought provoking, tabboo breaking or good moral quandries. Just a lot of empty happening for 2 hours.
Star Trek Continues (2013)
Never cared for fan series until this....its almost better than original
And Im not exaggerating. Usually with fan produced stuff you notice the budged constraints and somewhat beginner approach quickly, the color grading, some actors and their performance, story lines etc...
This however, boy. The guy playing Kirk is indistinguishable from Shatner almost, the mannerism, the stance, the voice pattern. Its all spot on. The camera work is exactly the same as in TOS. While the surroundings are a throwback to TOS, combined with today's CGI, its at the same time a perfect homage to the original and also a polished excellent product as a series. And lets not forget the stories, the core of ST. We all know certain ST series were/are not up to par on that front. The ST stories were extremely witty moral quandaries with exceptional, often completely unforeseen, twists at the end and at the same times often breaking social taboos. This series sticks hard to that in most episodes while at the same times balancing it out wonderfully with enough humour and action as the original TOS and other great ST series.
All in all, please give it a chance if you are a ST fan and especially if you like and cherish the original series with Kirk. This show has none of the drawbacks of other fan made series, there is zero evidence its anything other than 100% studio financed product in terms of production and at the same times 100% loyal to all the core values and elements of ST universe that we love and that made it great.
This is just getting worse and worse and worse
IT used to be a somewhat OK show with a few clichés here and there, to be expected, fine. But now its getting to be like a over sugary, full of (very bad) clichés soap opera. It was always part that of course but it balanced out with some OK action and dialogue. Not to mention the stupid inconsistencies. The bad guys escape out the door for 3 seconds and "theyre gone". Flash can run the city in 1 second but cant catch bad guys who are infront of the building. They always act like its a big revelation when a mirror counterpart is shown to be a copy despite everybody knows it. Horrible, so predictable.
And overall lately the soap opera part has completely taken over, the writing is beyond abysmal, its drenched in sweet and often feels like a commercial for inscription into SJW club. Please stop and take a step back, this is PATHETIC.
Where did South Park go?
Used to love this show and Im not giving up of course but this show has been going slightly downhill. Though I didn't expect this kind of a drop with this season. Jokes were very poor and generic, they went very political which is what they do often yet while they used to pull no punches it feels like now they're immediately balancing any possible "insult" by very clearly portraying its just sarcasm or joke so there wouldn't be any doubt left. They used to be much more subtle with these jabs and borderline jokes and it didn't feel like they're scared of anything while now they cater much more towards being correct and under no situation misunderstood. Most jokes were also very on the nose and not that funny and the story was kinda lame. I dunno, It just feels different, more straightforward, less witty, a LOT less funny and this ep especially very dull Here to hoping its just a bad start of this season.
Supergirl: Resist (2017)
Not sure I have ever seen so much nonsense and mindlessly thrown in twists and hurdles for characters than in this beyond stupid episode. The ganja fog in the room where they were writing this must have been so thick not only they could not see each other, it seems even sound could not pass from person to person. Hey John, lets throw in Cat on the Airforce one, we have not seen her in a while. Sure, Joe, that is amazing. Lets also recycle the "who's longer" joke and make it feminine so it makes no sense and throw in some ""funny"" banter (which of course ends up being cringe worthy) for our extremely strong female characters at the most inappropriate time while the world is in peril for NO reason except to make the female characters seem so bad S. Only makes them seem idiotic. Though that might not be amazing enough, how about we make the president an alien. And then maybe lets just like, attack the army of aliens and their advanced ships (filled with half Jaffa half Guardians) with the Airforce One (???, I was actually thinking, is this for real or am I watching comedy central and where is Chuck Norris) and two jets, maybe we can destroy them. After all, the president is now an alien (not that anyone objects or is concerned even for a millisecond). U U U, guys, I can top that, lets make Cat even more bad S/important just for kicks and lets Madeline give her a call.
Watching this train wreck of an episode is an insult to viewers. One could write an esey on how bad it was,i am only picking on few things. Didn't even mention that pathetic plane crash site that they did not invest more than 2 minutes to create, or made from painted boxes Fortress of solitude , let alone forget the so so cheap twists like the canon getting destroyed just in the nick of time or the Superman being controled. I think this is the worst written episode and the most filled with clichés and stereoytpes that I have seen ever on any show ever. Even a generic episode generator where one could only change character names and plot points would have created a more original plot. Pa The Tic. And people get payed to write this nonsense. Think about that folks. PAYED for this and payed well.
Mississippi Grind (2015)
Dark and seriously depressing
But not really because of the reality of portrayal, no, the movies does that extremely poorly. Its depressing because there is no real chemistry between the actors which was supposed to be the driving force (someone said its like Sideway but gambling, which is a good description only Sideways was pretty good quality movie and upbeat while this is dark and has this pathetic feel to it), every interaction feels forced, every move they make feels forced, the whole movie feels artificial. And the base the movie is founded on. Its not realistic. I guess due to the overly depressing tone of the movie they figured, hey lets at least try to make it a bit upbeat towards the end. Makes it even worse. Because it is, as everything else, yeah, forced. The whole storyline meanders slowly and pathetically through something that was supposed to be somewhat entertaining and at the same time realistic portrayal of this life. But only ends up being depressing. Im not very much into too melodramatic or "realistic" movies that some people adore. I figure life is too much of that as it is. But I can appreciate a good movie, no matter the core. And Its not the actors fault as much as the producers and directors. Its just not a very good movie.
No chemistry, poor flow, unconvincing plot....
Went into it expecting a light feel good evening movie with a pretty predictable plot. This kind of old guy mentoring a younger kid/coming of age flick that builds on a quite established formula and for it to be somewhat good you just need to get the basics right. They didn't.
Cast. On their own, you have a nice group of quite quality actors. Yet they somehow made them seem forced in the movie, just popping up here and there or sometimes you could kind of see them mouthing words written for them. Perhaps let them ad-lib here and there.
Chemistry. The biggest blunder in my opinion by faaar. I wont even touch the other relationships. Looking just at the main one between Ash and Ed, there was nothing there. The dialogue was so horribly contrived, one could see Ed talking about something and Ash reacting either completely different to what he went on to say or forcing himself. There was no natural back and forth. And that insane momentary outburst of I will come and visit every weekend (no spoiler) before establishing for the viewer any real strong connection was abysmally awkward. And in general Ed came off as unlikeable for the most part.
Plot. I am not even sure I know what happened. There was way too little on his background for us to really feel for him or understand him better. And the flow of the movie was horrendous. It was jumping but the worst thing was, how long or little they felt they needed to spend on certain parts. We could be looking at Ed in the locker room for 5 mins but one of the focal points with the priest came and went like a bird sh+tting itself. And I still I am not sure if that was not a joke. The conversation between the priest and Ash was pathetic. That was supposed to be a huge dramatic moment or could be, Ash looking for a "ticket" to visit his loved ones. A horrible horrible waste of Mickey's acting talents(I was expecting more like something in the lines of Ray Donovan confessing for the first time- its a TV show). What it ended up being was onthe level of a conversation one has with the cashier. That dialogue pretty much is a perfect example of the whole movie. a)lack of chemistry b)talking past each other c)no real resolution d)just a cheap unprofessional effort.
All in all, for a feel good movie with some sincerity and actual atmosphere look elsewhere. Basically I watched it for Mickey because I like him and its why I gave it as much stars as I did, and well, because people did put effort into it. But it just feels packed together in a haste, there is no chemistry between the main actors and the whole ebb and flow of the movie is almost a straight line.
oh boy, prepare to get addicted
Man, every time I come on this page it makes me sad. 2002, one season. It brings genuine anger up in me. No other show makes me actually feel pis*ed off that it got canceled. Annoyed yes, because usually they replace most good shows with dumb reality TV (because they can make 3 reality shows for the price of one good show) which mostly makes people even dumber or some soapy politically correct show that is just another clone of a similar show on a rival network only with a different cast and slightly different setting. Firefly was obviously too complex (even though it is simply just realistic and so easy to understand and be immersed in this amazing universe if one just gives it a chance) plus I wonder if they even had intended to make it work since they screwed up the order of the episodes and put it on the air whenever they felt like it without any logical and sane timetable. Retards, man it makes me angry again.
This is definitely Whedon's masterpiece, I honestly do not think anything else he did comes close. He created this amazing universe with an amazing and interesting history (and I find history otherwise boring as hell in most cases) that seemed so believable. The characters were realistic and three dimensional and the relationships organic and pristine. Everything felt so real on that ship, the atmosphere felt like home, you really began to care for them. Very very few shows manage to bring characters so close to the viewer. I loved the swearing in Chinese, so original and I loved the touch of the old Westerns in the dialogs and in general. Also the development of the characters really showed over the course of the season and somehow it just felt that with each episode everything got better. The adventurous aspect of the show is I think one of the things I loved best about the show. The feeling of freedom and traveling around the universe with each episode feeling fresh and intriguing.
The writers were also amazing. From funny episodes with Jayne and his statue and song, scary ones with Reevers and not to forget my favourite, the "zen" episode with Jubal Early the bounty hunter and his brilliant statements and the conversations with other characters. Worthy of every emmy and prize one could give them.
So all in all, yeah I recommend this show to anyone. In my book it is hands down number one and no other show I have seen since comes close. It is so sad they stopped production. I still hope, as many many Firefly fans, even if it is slightly delusional, that someday somehow some CEO realizes the number of followers this show has and how many dvds were/are sold and brings it back. I am sure that today it would have had more than enough viewers.
Among all the trash that is on TV people appreciate good shows more. I think HBO should bring it back, sometimes I feel it is the only production house that is not afraid to put out more complex shows that take a bit more to develop. A fan can hope. If I were rich I would personally finance the production. Now I only need to get rich. Hmm
Starts great but then just falls apart
The basic idea was great. We all love superheroes with special powers. We love how they are above everyone else and can do what they want.
When I first saw the previews I could not wait for the show to start. It seems like finally some fresh wind in the genre. And at first it seemed like it. Great visuals and great filmography with a cool narrator. But then I started noticing how the story was not moving anywhere, how the narrator started getting annoying and sometimes had the dumbest of lines. Then there were numerous plot holes, we started getting way too many heroes(for the writers anyhow, they were not capable of properly incorporating them into the story so they became a nuisance) and the worst of all in my book, because of too much material and inability to tie it all in with the story, the viewer never gets to see the proper development of the heroes and accepting their powers and using them while not constantly b*tching about it. Basically all of the heroes acted very unrealistically. Except Sylar, who was a really well portrayed bad guy, everyone else was just a mess. I did not buy the story nor the motivation of the characters. And do not get me started how some of the characters are so annoying I actually always skipped their segment (Niki and the little kid anyone? ).
The seconds season and afterwards is not worth mentioning. The stupid pictures and all that just seemed forced. They should have finished with that. Though in any case the writers just mess it all up. The story becomes unwatchable and the characters behave even worse I thought possible.
All in all, the series starts great, great idea, great visuals. But then we have too many characters, story starts slowing down to a crawl, plot holes and loose ends, stupid confusing story, stupid heroes with unrealistic behavior who constantly complain about everything and as a viewer one does not get the satisfaction of seeing his favourite hero really embracing his powers and acting normally. Etc..
Legend of the Seeker (2008)
pretty good fantasy series
First I have to say I read (most of ) the series. I wont go into detail about it, but what we all can agree is that at least the first two or three books were very good for this genre. So I started watching this series when it came out and was quite disappointed. It was way too much Xena (which is not bad, just I don't think appropriate frame for this) like and lacking the dark tone and the seriousness. And the fact that the countryside was always exactly the same with sometimes the same parts of the woods used, that really made it lame. The plots were too uneventful and pretty much always the same in essence and the characters way too passive. Zedd did not really seem like the powerful wizard, Richard not the mighty seeker and Kahlan was a tag along.
BUT The second season brought some serious change and I love it. It seems some people were fired because the changes are thorough. Zedd finally starts using his powers, becomes more involved and more like in the books. Kahlan and Richard do not change that much but I think they do start behaving a bit more serious and less mushy which goes along with the a lot more dark undertone of the second season in comparison to the first.Which is how it should be, like in the books. Finally the plots become a bit darker and real life like. I love the fact that they obviously increased their budget because a lot more CGI is used which helps A LOT with the credibility of the characters as with the credibility of the land (finally they are trying to change it a bit so its not that obvious they are always in the same part of New Zeland or wherever they are filming it). Also it seems they are sticking a bit more to the storyline. And I love how Cara has turned out. So, first season - very average. Second season - very good Id say. More interesting individual plots, powerful magic, more CGI, darker, a more authentic feeling of the gang and their journey. If they keep it up and get an even bigger budget It can become a seriously great show.
Iron Man: Armored Adventures (2008)
I must say that at first I did not like the style of the animation. Its different, completely computer generated. You know what I mean. But after watching a few episodes I must say I got hooked. It is one of the best animated shows out there. I might just put it right next to my favorite shows like the 1994 Spider-man TV-series, 1996 Superman TV-series, 2001 Justice League TV-series or even Samurai Jack. Shows that are not generic, shallow and with stupid, over and over recycled humor. The stories in Iron Man are intriguing, I especially like the adventurous angle. And I really must congratulate the creators on making the fights and movements and the trashing that occurs on screen feel alive. I don't know how they did it but each step that Iron Man makes in the heavy suit or in general the movements of the armor,Hulks movements etc.. everything has this incredible audio backing that makes the movements come alive somehow. When he is thrown against the wall the bass is just right, when he walks the sounds of parts moving are just right. For example compare it to the new Planet Hulk animation movie by Marvel and you will be amazed at how bad it is and how good Iron Man AA is. Like day and night. So all in all we have good interesting plots with fun twists (refreshingly well thought out and logical with attention to detail and not with lame plot holes like we can often find with such animated series) accompanied with witty dialog and clever jokes. Again I repeat, If you find the animation a bit weird at first, don't, it is amazing, especially when you realize how incredible it is mixed with the audio. It really comes alive. And the how the Mandarin is portrayed in the series is amazing. The voice, the looks. Very scary and evil. I seriously do not think I am exaggerating if I say that it shows that the authors are real fans of the comics and put a lot of effort in making everything click together. Unlike the previously mentioned Planet Hulk or some other lame attempt at animation.
Casino Royale (2006)
Incredible, back to the old days of cinema
I had my doubts, before seeing the movie, wondered if it is going to be another stupid action flick as those with Brosnan, only this time with a good actor, on par with Connery or Moore. Hollywood these day is mostly just mindless, stereotypical action and witless dialogs.
This Bond is everything that describes the opposite. Its witty, the fast paced scenes and slow ones are in very good balance and either being an action scene or a slow scene, it never ever gets boring or unimaginative. There are numerous funny and witty remarks and associations placed very delicately, precisely and do not stand out intrusively. Everything is done with quality in mind, in good taste. The word original can be even used, word that can be very seldom said about most Hollywood movies. It remains an action flick, its far from being a complex drama with a moral underlying the story. The movies gives us hope that mainstream action films can still be breathtakingly good. Oh, there are a few some advertisements for certain items placed strategically and an unnecessary or misplaced line here or there but that could be called nitpicking.
All in all this Bond is incredibly good and I hope the sequels well follow in its footsteps.
It is sad where the movie industry is going
I was looking forward to the movie because good movies are really far in between these days. Johnny Depp is playing, that should be good I thought, really only remembering Depp and his wackiness from the first part.
People are becoming increasingly confused in these times, wanting more and more intensity from things, wanting everything instantly to occupy them, things to distract them from their thoughts.
This movie is just too typical of that to be even funny. We have action sequences stretched out beyond anything enjoyable, there is absolutely no depth to anything in the movie, you could be a mushroom and still understand everything happening on the screen. It was like watching formula 1 these days. Bland, no likable characters, no passion , no nothing. Just something happening. Great CGI and technical perfection. No good dialogs, no real background of anything or anyone, no intelligent humor, It just has no essence. I don't remember yawning so hard coming out from the cinema.
Before Sunset (2004)
Beautiful, sad, happy, real. Simply amazing.
First I have to say that I haven't been this moved by a film for quite some time. At the first you notice that its not filmed in an ordinary manner. Its a dialog between Jesse and Celine. And if i would have known this before I might be put off from watching it. Don't be.
In a way the whole dialog represents the way we think during our lives. It sums it up in a way. It is just so authentic. How we slowly become numb, maybe don't even realize it. Love turns out not to be what we expected but we never really stop hoping somewhere deep inside. We have dreams and we wish them to come true but reality drags us down. Having a dream, a strong wish, desire can be extremely hard and emotionally painful if it does not come true. It is just a burden, a perspective by which we weigh our experiences.
But then again when we have our dreams come true, after a while, don't we just find ourselves wanting more ? Not necessarily. When you have experienced the good and the bad, you do not idealize that much anymore. It think it is about enjoying the simple things, honesty, joy, following your heart and not your ego, being a good person and living one day at a time.
Made my day in any case.
A nice movie
I always like watching this sort of movies which try to ask or answer some of life's questions or put them in perspective. The acting of main actors/esses is great, hands down. The story is interesting and I could relate it to a number of things in my life. It makes you rethink some of the usual problems in ones life and distance yourself a bit so you get a clearer view. It is actually quite sad how the same problems remain in every generation and in most cases we just don't learn from them. Nevertheless I would not give it a 10 because even though the story is presented with a wide range of complementing thoughts and symbolism I think it lacked wisdom, and is sometimes a bit too dramatic and stereotypical.
Open Water (2003)
Quite good yet somewhat unsettling
The first thing that hit me when I started watching the movie was the camera. You can plainly see it is not a big budget Hollywood production but a rather independent film with limited funds. Sometimes that is good, sometimes not. This time it is, because I suppose in a way brings the point across even more so. The acting is good, which is a very important part of such a script, since it tries to portray the couple dealing with being left behind. I must say the movie is somewhat unsettling and harshly presents the emotional roller-coaster of the couple and their behavior with being lost, helpless and all the time on the verge of a shark attack. After watching it, I'm not sure what to feel, but it is definitely not a feel-good movie. I've always disliked diving and never feel comfortable swimming too far out or in the open sea if on a boat, so perhaps thats why the movie affected me a bit more.
Smart and Fun !!
This movie is about a cynical and satirical writer with a wife who's character is practically just the opposite of him, fun, open, lively and talkative. As they get new neighbours with a young, mildly disabled girl the story starts to unfold. It's sometimes a laugh out loud funny (witty remarks by Peter hehe ) and sometimes gives you some things to consider. Don't really have much time now, but overall the movie is well made, characters likable and the movie nicely brings them closer to the audience, you can understand them. It is a movie to watch in the evening when you don't feel like watching all that cgi and shooting and just want something more peaceful, intelligent with quite some laughs in between. Recommended.
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Would you like to see this movie ?
Go out with your friends, wash your car, just talk even if only the latest gossip with you girlfriend, knit yourself a new pair of socks, stare at the wall for two hours ???
Basically I did not like this movie. I saw it recommended somewhere and I remember reading how cool it is and something a bit different. And I thought I like different, I'm very open minded, I even like many of those artistic European movies that no one seems to get. And then this. Remember those witty comedies that smart people get and, well, less smart people also laugh at cause they are well made and the humor has a great situational component, or black comedies with likable characters, mocking horrifying situations with a satirical grace or great acting and phrases with many underlying meanings etc etc... There's nothing of it in this movie. well sort of,if you idea of fun is going to the psychiatric institution, getting popcorn and watching the patients "having fun" . if so, then a movie, presented in a ever so slow and uneventful manner, (think of a math professor telling you about the funny side of integrals for two hours, with that incredible voice that you often find with math or statistics prof. A voice void of any emotions, just narrating ), about a loser guy who has no life, lives with his loser family and does nothing (not like funny Seinfeld nothing!) . Oh yea right, he tries to get a girl, who is just a gray, void and incredibly unappealing character as him, go, have fun !
people like this movie because it makes them feel cool, special. they like something that no one would like from any widely accepted criteria by which we judge movies. Think dishes made with tartuffe. It just tastes bitter and gives you no essential vitamins. or snail eating, or wearing sun glasses which make you look like a bee. such a thing classifies you as a part of something, a defined someone, even if it tastes like or looks terrible.
