Scream VI (2023)
Kids from Woodsboro are just built different.
I love scream movies, all scream movies, it's my favourite franchise by far, but I couldn't help but feel this time round our core characters get beat up, stabbed, fall off balconies, impaired on glass shards, and not only do they survive, they're seen walking home or jogging in to shot moments later; it all just felt very cliche. They're attacking the main characters for dramatic purpose but then not kidding them off. I'd rather they didn't get attacked or they just died.
Other than that a very enjoyable addition to the franchise and I'm excited for the next movie, but in my opinion they new to open it up by killing of some main characters to get the ball rolling.
Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Held my attention the whole way through
I went in to this movie slightly blind, I'd seen a trailer ages ago but not since so couldn't really remember the premise. And I was pleasantly surprised.
The movie pretty much started with a tense vibe and they stayed through the whole film. I was genuinely invested in the characters and their stories and was unsure how it would pan out.
The acting in the movie is great, from every person, and I really felt "the dads" and wynn were a loving family, they had such a lovely vibe together.
Would I class this movie as a horror?! Probably not, it wasn't scary as such, but it was tense and thrilling in parts and definitely worth the watch.
My only negative thought is I would of enjoyed more devastation at the end, like a big finale is what I felt like this movie deserved. But other that that a great watch all round.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
Good movie but not a sequel
I was a HUGE fan of the original strangers with its tense creepy drawn out scenes of the audience knowing the killers in sight but the main characters oblivious. It made for creepy hide behind your bands viewing.
Unfortunately this "sequel" has ditched all attempts to recreate such atmosphere and gone for the all outs guns blazing horror vibe.
This doesn't make it a bad movie, in fact I actively enjoyed it, up until the ridiculous ending, however it doesn't carry the same vibe as the original. Which is sad.
All I Need (2016)
Got to the point it was boring
I've seen a lot of low budget attempts at horror films in my life and sometimes they're a secret gem and sometimes they're just not. This film is definitely in the not category.
The first 5 minutes of the movie showed some potential at least, but then you cut to the random man walking being followed by a weird polish guy and you have no idea what relevance it has to the girls in their miraculously matching underwear in this room.
Even Come the end of this film I wasn't 100% sure what that whole side plot was about, why did the lady want to keep all the girls in a shed in her garden? For youth? I mean, no!
And don't even get me started on how annoying our "hero" was. She whimpered and winged her way through the whole movie to the point I didn't care if she made it. Along with that annoying girl who couldn't find the energy to stand even though the killer was taking a very long time to squeeze his way through the door I've never know a bunch of hostages I was least excited about, did I mention they all had matching underwear? Who wears matching underwear these day?!
Oh and don't even get me started on the way she managed to defeat the masked man! Anticlimactic to the end this movie.
