Daisy Jones & The Six (2023)
Entertaining!
I never read the book for Daisy Jones & The Six so I had no expectations going in. I only had the trailers to go by and even after watching them I went back and forth about watching this. The reviews were all mostly great so I thought I'd give it a chance and I'm so glad I did. I loved every minute of this series and thought each episode got better and better. The chemistry between the cast is what makes this show go. The love triangle can get a little soapy at times but it still remains entertaining throughout the series. Like a lot of the reviews have already pointed out this band has a very Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac feel to them. Even though I wasn't born yet from everything I know I think the show portrayed the 70's well. I'm also a huge music fan of all genres and all era's and thought this represented music from the 70's well too. It's one of the greatest era's of music and this fits right in. If you're looking for a new show to binge then give this one a chance. You won't be disappointed!
Shrinking (2023)
As good as I had hoped for
Shrinking was just as good as I had hoped for. First of all, as soon as I saw Harrison Ford and Jason Segal were starring in it I was already going to watch it but then after reading all the positive reviews and watching the trailer my excitement grew even more. Well, I just finished it and it not only met my expectations but surpassed them. I'm not saying it's the best show of the year but it's an original, feel good comedy that will make you laugh throughout each episode. I'd definitely recommend this but make sure you give yourself enough time to watch it because you're going to want to binge it as quickly as you can.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Didn't like all the time jumps
I've been looking forward to House of the Dragon since the spin-off was first announced. The majority of the reviews and ratings have been great so that only enhanced my excitement. I told myself I'd be happy if it was half as good as the original and I can say that without a doubt that it is. While it's obviously not as good as the original (not much is) it definitely is still a really good show that will no doubt be successful. It has the same Game of Thrones feel with all the action, drama, mystery, etc. People who don't like it either didn't want to because they hate everything or are comparing it to the original...don't. I'm Just take it for what it is and that's a really good show! It was the most watched premiere in HBO history and has already been renewed for another season. This is going to have a long run so I hope it continues to get better and better like the original did.
Moon Knight (2022)
Better Than Expected!
I'm a huge fan of Superhero movies/shows but I really wasn't sure what to expect from this. I never heard of Moon Knight and it doesn't look like your typical superhero show. Of course I was going to give it a chance bc it's Marvel. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this. It might not be my favorite of the Marvel shows but it's still pretty good and absolutely worth watching! Oscar Isaac is such an underrated actor and does a fantastic job as the lead here. It had a little of everything: action, drama, mystery, suspense, etc. I hope that there's more than one season of this show because it absolutely deserves it!
Foundation (2021)
Disappointing
After watching the first season of Foundation the first word that comes to mind is disappointing. I was really hoping for better. I'm a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy so I couldn't wait for this to come out. I know it's hard to adapt a great book into a great series but I still had hope that it would be watchable. I do admit that the visuals here are incredible. It seems to me that most of the people who dislike this are really die hard fans who don't like that the changed some things up from the books. I've never been one to mind when a show or movie has to change up a few things from the original source material because I know they have to adapt it for tv/movies and that's hard to do. As long as it's entertaining I'm ok with it but I get why some people may not be. But this is not that entertaining.
Barbarians (2020)
It's worth watching
I actually liked Barbarians more than I thought I would. I'm a huge fan of this kind of genre so I was going to watch no matter what. While it's not the best it's definitely worth watching. There's an equal amount of drama and violence to keep the story entertaining and at a good pace. The cast all do a good job and give credible performances. The seasons are a little short at only six episodes apiece but I guess that's better than having filler episodes and being bored. I liked season one a little more but season two is still pretty good in its own right. Season two ended on a cliffhanger so I hope it gets renewed for a third season. If you're a fan of this genre then give this try, I think you'll like it.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Not the best thing from Marvel but it's ok
I enjoyed She-Hulk more than I thought I would. I know the reviews have been mixed and most of the negative reviews all say the same thing and that's how is she stronger and better than the original Hulk already and that she comes off as unlikable. I agree with that to a point but I still think the show is pretty entertaining. Mark Ruffalo is as terrific as always. He's not only a great Hulk/Bruce Banner but he's just a flat out great actor in just about everything he does. Tatiana Maslany does a good job as She-Hulk but I agree they need to tone down that she's better than Hulk at everything. They have a phenomenal cast overall with those two, Charlie Cox, Benedict Wong, Tim Roth & Jameela Jamil who are all great actors doing a great job as usual. Bottom line is I had a lot of fun watching it and would recommend it to any fan of the MCU.
Halo (2022)
Was hoping for better
After watching the first season the first word that comes to mind is disappointing. I was really hoping for better. I'm a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy so I was really looking forward to this. I know it's hard to adapt a great book or game into a great series but I still had hope that it would be watchable.
Watchmen (2019)
Entertaining Enough
I absolutely loved Watchmen! It's a thrilling dramatic series that will absolutely keep you entertained throughout the series with its powerful storytelling! It's just a shame that they're only limiting it to one season. I know it was only suppose to be a one season limited show to begin with but you would think with how good the ratings were, how good all the reviews were, and all the awards it's won they would've tried for a 2nd season anyway. I mean this show broke records for how many award nominations it got including 26 Emmy nominations (it won huge awards such as Best Limited Series, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Writing, etc., etc.). Oh well, we were lucky to have such an incredible show even if just for the one season!
The Rookie (2018)
Worth Watching
I have to say I've really enjoyed The Rookie even more than I though I would. I've been a Nathan Fillan fan since Castle and he really shines here. He stars as John Nolan, a 40-something year rookie for the LAPD. After a life altering incident he chooses to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer. As the oldest rookie he has to persuade skeptics that he's cut out for the job and that this isn't some mid life crisis. These are several supporting characters in this and they all bring a sense of entertainment to the show. It's a really easy show to sit back and watch and even have on as background viewing. It's one of the better cop shows of the last few years.
Family Guy (1999)
So Funny!
Family Guy is absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best comedies I've ever seen! It's been on the air for almost 20 years now and it's still just as funny today as it was when it first started, more so in some cases. This is an animated show that's definitely made for adults as some of the humor may not be for children. I would recommend watching the dvd's or steaming it instead of watching it on network tv because you get to hear all swear words and cut out scenes that were too much for network tv. There are just so many great characters on Family Guy that I can't even begin to name them all. This is one of the comedies where you can watch the reruns as many times as you want and it's still hilarious!
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Not the best from Marvel but I still enjoyed it
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is everything I thought it would be and more! We learn more about these two characters in the first episode than all the movies they're in combined! Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) are both phenomenal here! If you didn't like this it's because you didn't want to because it's exactly what's been advertised in the trailers. It feels more like a movie than a tv show as it has the same look and feel of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I've enjoyed all the Marvel shows, some more than others, and this is definitely one of the better ones. I hope they make another season because this one was pretty good.
Our Flag Means Death (2022)
Such a fun show!
Our Flag Means Death was a lot funnier than I was expecting. The entire cast were all fantastic and were led by the incredibly talented Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby. Both were perfectly cast as I can't think of two actors more suited for their roles than these two in this show. I have to admit I wasn't that into it at first but I stuck with it and by the third episode I was hooked. The episodes are only around 30min so it doesn't take too long to get through the season. I actually binged the entire first season over a weekend. I'm glad this was already renewed for a second season because I want to see more of this.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
McGregor is good as Kenobi
I actually enjoyed Obi-Wan Kenobi a lot more than I expected to. After reading all the mixed reviews I was expecting a slow moving, boring show but this was anything but. I was very entertained from the very first episode to the last. I was actually wanting more episodes when it was over. I'm glad that it's already been renewed for another season. Some of these negative reviews are just ridiculous, people are hating for the sake of hating. As most here have already pointed out, Ewan McGregor is the best part of this series. He's great as Obi-Wan. You can tell they put a lot of love into this because the attention to detail is very obvious. While it's not as good as the Mandalorian it's still a good show in its own right and definitely worth the time of watching it.
The Sandman (2022)
Entertaining Enough
I have to say I enjoyed The Sandman more than I thought I would. I have to admit I knew nothing of the comic or even heard of it so I had no expectations at all. It is definitely something different and unlike any show I've seen. The closest thing is American Gods but I stoped watching that in Season 2 as the quality of that show fell off after the first season. It has a solid 7.9 so it looks like most people seem to like it. I thought Tom Sturridge did an excellent job as the lead and Boyd Holbrook was just as good as one of the villains the of the story. The creator of the comic book (Neil Gaiman) is an executive producer so hopefully he'll have a big say as to where the story goes. It's already been renewed so I'm looking forward to more of the story.
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Better Than Expected!
I actually enjoyed Interview with the Vampire even more than I thought I would. I liked the movie so thought this would be a disappointment but it wasn't. Far from it. This one takes place in the current year of 2022. Vampire Louie de Pointe du Lac is currently living in Dubai and is telling his live story to a journalist. The story starts in New Orleans in the 20th century and shows how he met vampire Lestat du Lioncourt and how they started their family with the two of them and teen vampire Claudia. It's much like the movie where the story follows the Louie telling his story to the journalist. It's also different in many ways to the movie, not bad just different. I'm not even sure what I like more the movie or this show. I liked it enough that I binged the the whole first season in just a couple days.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2005)
Absolutely Hilarious!!
I don't even know how to describe how much I love this show. It's easily one of my favorite comedies in the history of television. I don't know anyone who's seen this show who hasn't loved it. This is one of those shows where you'll have to watch each episode more than once because you'll miss parts from laughing so much. I've seen every episode of every season a few times and it's just as funny rewatching it as it was the first time. The cast (Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito) is perfect. They are all hilarious, as are all the supporting characters. I can't recommend this show enough, do yourself a favor and go watch it as soon as you can. I promise that you won't be disappointed.
Friday Night Lights (2006)
Clear Eyes...Full Hearts...Can't Lose!
I know people say this all the time about shows but Friday Night Lights really is one of the most underrated shows in the history of television. It's such a great show and should be talked about even more than it is. It's on just about every "bests shows of all-time" list that you'll find and for good reason. It shows the everyday lives about popular high school athletes and others members of the community in a small Texas town where football is everything. It takes a realistic, gritty look inside their lives. The writing and acting is what makes this show so special. The cast (Kyle Chandler, Taylor Kitsch, Connie Britton, Aimee Teegarden, Minka Kelly, Michael B JordanZach Gilford, Jesse Plemons, Adrianne Palicki, etc) is just about perfect for this show too. This really is a must watch show!
Poker Face (2023)
Enjoyed it so far!
I've actually really enjoyed Poker Face more than I thought I would. I originally wasn't going to watch it because it looked like just another detective crime show, it's not. It's so much better. What originally made me watch is that it's created by Rian Johnson (Knives Out, Glass Onion, Looper, etc). I love his movies and how original they are. There are a million of these crime shows with crazy detectives but this is one of the better ones and one of the better new shows of the year. There are enough twists and turns to keep your attention and wanting more. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this show.
Echo 3 (2022)
Worth watching but the ending is awful!
I've been looking forward to Echo 3 ever since I saw the first trailer. It's from the same people who created The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty and I enjoyed both of those movies. It has the same look and feel of those movies so if you've seen and liked them you will enjoy this too. The standout here is definitely the underrated Luke Evans who plays Bambi and along with his brother-in-law Michael are both special forces. When Bambi's sister/Michael's wife gets kidnapped in Venezuela, the two of them get sick of waiting for the government and go and try to save her themselves. There is plenty of action, drama and suspense to keep everyone satisfied and entertained.
Chappelle's Show (2003)
Absolutely Hilarious!
Chappelle's show is absolutely one of the funniest television shows I've ever seen! Dave is a flat out genius! I've never laughed out loud so much at one show in my life! There's literally not one episode that's not hilarious. I've watched every episode several times over and laugh just as much every time. Like many others here have already said, it's an absolute travesty that it only went for three seasons. It's not because it was canceled because it was one of the most popular shows on at the time, it's just that Dave didn't want to do anymore for some reason. Chappelle is one of the funniest comedians of this era and this is peak Chappelle at his best!
Everybody Loves Raymond (1996)
Great Sitcom!
Everybody Loves Raymond is just as funny today as it was when it was on 15-20 years ago. If you look up any list of the best sitcoms of all-time I promise you that Everybody Loves Raymond will be on it. It's absolutely hilarious. This is one of those sitcoms where you can watch the reruns over and over and find them just as funny as the first time you saw them. You can have it on in the background while you do other things and just pick up anywhere in the episode and start laughing. The cast is perfect. The show is so funny because it'll remind you of your own family. There are at least a few characters in the show that you'll think was based off someone from your own family.
Blindspot (2015)
Worth Watching
I'm actually surprised by how much I liked Blindspot. It's easy for this show to get lost in the shuffle of all the other crime shows to choose from because there are a million of them. Don't let it though. It's one of the better ones that's been on in the last few years. This show not only met my expectations but surpassed them in every way. It has an intriguing premise with so many twists and turns that it will keep you wanting more. The mystery and action was good enough to hook me from the very first episode. This show ended on its own and wasn't cancelled on a cliffhanger so you get to see the finished story. All that mystery pays off in the end and finishes with a satisfying finale.
WandaVision (2021)
Elizabeth Olsen is amazing here!
I found WandaVision to be a pretty entertaining show that's a fantastic addition to Phase 4! It's so over the top bananas but it works in a weirdly entertaining way! Once you start watching it you'll want to binge it as quickly as possible. I don't understand some of these negative reviews though...did you not watch the trailers? Some of you are acting surprised at what you were watching. I don't get it...what were you expecting that you didn't get to see? It's a wildly original show that's such a fun ride that you can't turn away and that absolutely pays off in the end. Elizabeth Olsen is so amazing here that she absolutely deserved an Emmy nomination! She was also just great and the best thing going in the new Dr. Strange movie!
True Blood (2008)
Classic!
I absolutely loved True Blood. If you like vampire and supernatural shows then this is a must watch. It's one of the better supernatural shows that's ever been made. I really can't overstate how good it is. Like any supernatural show that's on for more than a few seasons some of it is corny but still entertaining. The only negative I can say is the ending was awful. It seems like it's hard to end a good show, most end in disappointment and this is no different. Having said that, it still doesn't take away from it being a great show. I'm actually watching it for a second time through now and I'm still as entertained as when I first saw it. It's a must watch for any vampire/supernatural fan.
