The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar, written by Roald Dahl, is a short movie directed by Wes Anderson so you know what to expect, it's going to be a bit weird. But weird doesn't mean bad, on the contrary, it's an easy watch, a story that is told as it was read from a book. Ralph Fiennes plays Roald Dahl, Benedict Cumberbatch plays Henry Sugar, Dev Patel plays a doctor and Ben Kingsley the man that can see without eyes. All of them speak directly to the camera, telling their story of the events. I like that kind of filming, the direct speaking to an audience. It's almost a guarantee for success, like the comedy series The Office, Parks And Recreation and others, all very entertaining. This short story (40 minutes) flew by and that's good, that means it wasn't boring at all. The cinematography was on top, very colourful, very structured but very effective. It's a good watch, a movie that deserves its high rating.
The thing with movies with Jason Statham is that you exactly know what you will get. It's going to be him living a normal life but at one point he will be getting mad, taking on hundred villains by himself, killing 99 percent of them whilst not getting injured once. If you can live with the fact that highly trained bandits can't manage to hit him once whilst shooting Kalashnikovs and him shooting a stupid revolver with every single shot being lethal then you can watch this movie. I'll admit it, it is entertaining but you just can't take it seriously. It's classic Statham, I just wonder if he will ever play something else in his career?
The three major reasons I watched this South Korean horror movie are that South Korea is one of my favourites countries for movies, that horror is one of my favourite genres, and that I never pay too much attention to negative reviews as most of the people are just never satisfied. The three reasons I should not have watched this movie are that not all South Korean movies are excellent, that possession movies have been done over and over again and even though you never know that you might stumble on a gem this one was not one of them, and that this time the negative reviewers were right. It's just a repetitive snooze fest, not enough action and apart from the actor playing the possessed the rest wasn't very convincing. It's been awhile since I watched a bad South Korean movie, hopefully the next one will be better again.
