Zero no tsukaima (2006)
a very nice and entertaining series
The animation isn't the best quality if you compare this to Kanon 2006 or the two Rozen Maiden series but it isn't a problem. Sounds are also not topnotch but the voices are very well chosen (especially the voice of Louise. great voice with lost of emotion and variation.). The main reason why i will recommend it is the story. The story about a boy who accidentally gets transported to another world and has to serve the one who got him there (a girl) ain't new, but what is is that it is brought in such a fashion that you notice small changes in personality. This enhances the pleasure of watching greatly. Also the interaction between the characters is of high quality. In all it is really worth watching this series and re-watching it to see all small details they carefully inserted into the series.
Otherworld (1985)
interesting show
For it's time it was a interesting show. It tried to center on different cultures (the zones) and show its weaknesses and straights. Too bad that it didn't get the time to grow to a show with a lot more potential. 8 episodes isn't much time to get the actors and the idea (which is more complex than it originally anticipated: showing a lost in space idea on earth.) to such a degree that they are able to get the message across about different cultures. Maybe it is best to compare it for a bit with sliders. Sliders tried the same concept and shows that such a series can get a solid audience. In all a show worth watching so you can get an idea how a little idea can form a basis for a nice TV series. (the music is also worth mentioning: if you'voe heard it once, you will remember it forever. great music for it's time!!)
Shinseiki Evangelion (1995)
Great series
This is absolutely one of the best anime series that you can see. When i saw episode i really thought that it would be just another save-the-world series. But during watching the second episode, i realized that i was wrong. The character Shinji began showing something that really resembled character depth. After watching another couple of episodes i realized that i was watching one of the best anime (or other series and films) that you possibly can watch: the characters kept on showing new depths in character. When i finally had seen the whole series and the movies i kept on thinking about the characters and how they evolved. And i wanted to see it again just to get the feeling of getting to know them better again. In all i really think this is a crowning achievement for the whole crew who made this series possible. I really hope that they think about making a sequel. The only thing i have to say is this: If you haven't seen it you really ought to and if you already seen you really ought to watch it again.
Disneyland: Earth Star Voyager: Part 1 (1988)
A very good attempt
I saw the film in 1990 and 2 years ago on TV. And even though it had aged during this period it still remains a good attempt to reach a broad public. Sure there are things in the movie that still are of a poor standard but the whole concept of travel to a new planet with the problem of distance towards it was in that time well thought through. In all films everybody still had the idea of using cryogenics during the whole trip. In this film however the idea of sending a group of youngsters is innovating. This film gives a good idea of how we (in the future maybe) really are going to far-away planets. The concept of people that would use this to their own advantage is also a reality that is worth considering. I would say that the film was innovating for its time and that is worth a lot more that the flaws in the film. If i were Disney i would try to make a remake and to make it perfect for this time with all the knowledge and special effect we have gathered through these years.
