Don't expect anything and you'll be fine
2 January 2022
This movie is ok to watch if you have to pass 1 1/2 h and you don't want to engage your brain too much.

It's a pity though, because it could have been a really entertaining and charming little comedy with some real actors and a little more effort on the writer's side to come up with some witty dialogues.

My 12 year old daughter likes it!

Considering that I'm not the main target group I guess they made a decent phantasy series for teenager. It can be quite explicit and maybe too bloody for kids though, but the story is pretty basic and easy to follow.

Adults complaining about this series should maybe question their choice of entertainment beforehand.

Season 3 = the Covid season!?
10 October 2021
Everything significant that happens in season 3 could have easily been told in two or three episodes. The rest appears to be free improv by the actors to drag the story over a whole season while keeping the number of locations and additional actors to a bare minimum. What a car crash of a storyline and failed character development! I guess it's already renewed for a fourth season because the producers saved so much money by not hiring a decent writer and filming most of the episodes under lockdown conditions!? What a wasted opportunity!

Sci-fi soap for mindless watching
18 July 2021
This series is great if you're not interested in complex story lines or character development throughout the series. You can just watch and instantly forget about it. After a couple of episodes you can even anticipate all the dialogues. Nothing will surprise you because it's just constantly repeating the same patterns over and over again.

No, seriously... avoid this at all costs if you have half a brain. This series actually makes you dumber!

Could this movie have any more dumb cliches?
9 April 2021
I know this is all extremely dramatized to be entertaining to an uncritical crowd, but wow.... what an accumulation of dumb cliches and celebrated incompetence: Let's just gather as many people as possible alongside the tracks while a highly explosive train is about to derail at any moment. And helicopters... lots of them in close proximity to sabotage any rescue attempts by nearly crashing into each other or at least constantly stirring up dirt and pebbles.

If you can see past all the poor storytelling and the stereotypical hero worshipping bs, it's a great movie for you I guess.

Nice idea, dumb execution

Script, dialogues and acting is pretty underwhelming! The kid is super annoying... not sure if I can make it through all the episodes. I really wanted to like it though.

Great choice for 2h of escapism!
6 March 2021
The movie perfectly captures this distinct 50s post WW2 vibe of blissful ignorance. Think of movies like Father of the bride or Pillow talk. You can easily imagine the young Audrey Hepburn as Lisa, Spencer Tracy as her father and Doris Day as Fay. But don't get me wrong: the actual casting in this movie was spot on. Especially Julia Ormond stole the show with her wonderful performance.

If you don't expect this movie to be a socially or psychologically challenging experience and you just need to shut the harsh realities of the world out for 2h, I can't recommend this one enough!

Only watch if you're willing to pay attention
15 February 2021
It's certainly not a simple linear story line, but a rather complex web of intrigues, murder and mystery. I highly enjoyed watching the series although I have to admit that it took me two episodes to fully get into it. People who need to be spoon fed every detail of a story should avoid this.

Feels more like a pilot...
4 January 2021
This movie feels more like a pilot for some sort of supernatural horror series. The CGI is ok, Anton Yelcin is a good lead and the basic premise leaves just enough room for some entertaining 45 minutes and maybe a red thread story throughout the episodes of season 1 and 2. It probably would have been cancelled after season 3 because you can't repeat the same story forever.

As a stand-alone movie it was ok to watch on a Monday evening.

Barely watchable!
25 December 2020
I've just made it through all 8 episodes and I'm so glad it's over!

Here's a summary so you don't have to waste 7-8 hours on this: stupid, egocentric and therefore very dislikeable alcoholic is having constant psychotic episodes and is making the worst possible decisions in order to mess up the lives of the likewise dislikeable people around her. Did I mention Vodka?

What a trainwreck of a show! I give two stars for the overall production value and one for Miranda. Just don't do it... it's not worth your time!

Predictable, boring and Aubrey Plaza isn't weird for once!
10 December 2020
The storytelling is lazy and full of cliches... at no point was this movie romantic or even remotely funny. All the characters are flat and unbelievable. I give 2 stars to Aubrey Plaza for her down to earth performance (which is weird in itself!) and 1 star to the basic idea of a lesbian romcom. Don't bother to watch if you have other options available!

Great non-Hollywood storytelling that challenges you!
7 December 2020
This is not your type of movie if you need to be taken by the hand every step of the way and have the message dumbed down and bite-sized in a typical Hollywood storytelling way.

I love that Thelma takes me seriously and challenges me as the viewer. At no point did I think that it was boring or lengthy as some reviewers here suggested. But that's just me... maybe easily bored millennials know it better?!

Wow... that was intense!
1 December 2020
What a great movie: storytelling, sounddesign and photography was spot on to contribute to each scene. I honestly didn't expect that quality before watching it! And I haven't been that captivated by a movie for a long time! The acting was just top notch all around! Jessie Buckley's performance in particular was breathtaking and intense! I've known her from Taboo, but I guess I will have to check out the rest of her work now! Highly recommended if you like movies that don't follow the beaten track of predictable character development and lazy storylines!

The 11 minute one shot chasing sequence alone is worth watching the movie!
13 November 2020
The whole premise of the movie is admittedly quite weak, but man... the camerawork in the one shot chasing sequence from around 35:00 to 46:30 is breathtaking and well worth a 10/10!

The high body count got a little repetitive in the end, but I'd definitely recommend it, if you're up for mindless over the top high speed action!

A modern Disney version of HG Wells The Time Machine
9 November 2020
What an entertaining 2 hours! This has felt like some loosely adapted Disney version of H.G. Wells Time machine and I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! A pity they never made a sequel!

Gritty take on a revenge/ assassin thriller
16 October 2020
This is not some visually choreographed killfest with fast cuts and clean headshots like John Wick or any Luc Besson assassin movie. The action scenes are messy and dirty what makes them and the characters even more authentic and believable. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and Blake Lively's performance! Definitely hoping for a sequel!

If you like series like Peaky Blinders or Taboo you will enjoy this!
20 September 2020
This is a highly entertaining and dark story about love, intrigue and murder around the the 1900 Oktoberfest.

It's beautifully shot and the actors are top notch! Clearly this is aimed at an international audience and I'm sure there will be a second season!

Is this a Pilot?! Yes please!
7 September 2020
Ok... the story telling is lazy and wooden at times. But I really enjoyed the whole 90 minutes of this particular approach to the superhero genre anyway! I feel like this was shot as some sort of pilot for a series?! If so go for it and increase the budget a bit! I'd really like to see more of Wendy and Electroman!

Great pandemic thriller series!
30 July 2020
Edit 2022: Season 2 was awesome! If you're into the early seasons of TWD you're in for a treat! No walkers but a similar vibe... currently my favorite post-apocalyptic series!

Although shot in 2019 this series is an amazingly accurate pandemic thriller that doesn't feel like sci-fi at all in mid 2020.

Sløborn anticipated all the social reactions and emotions from scapegoating the outsiders, conspiracy theories or government propaganda frighteningly well.

All in all it's rather slow paced but feels at no time boring or lengthy. I had to binge it in one day and definitely would watch a second season! Kudos to Emily Kusche who plays the main character very convincingly!

Rather watch Das Boot instead!
17 July 2020
This movie completely lacks of any emotional attachment to the characters. Therefore you don't really care who dies or which ship sinks. Despite Tom Hanks doing his most tormented faces I found myself rooting for the Germans in the end... just out of sheer boredom!

I'd highly recommend watching Das Boot instead!

Not your average action/ superhero sci-fi
14 July 2019
I really enjoyed the slow pace and contemplative mood of this movie. If you don't necessarily need any starship battles, aliens or futuristic tech stuff in a sci-fi movie and you appreciate characters that don't fit the usual hollywood template for that genre I'd highly recommend you give this a try!

Ellen Page's pathetic acting skills are unbearable! Even Number Five's mannequin girlfriend gives a more emotional performance. I hardly made to the last episode because of her.
