Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017)
Be true to thine Self
I found this to be some of the best work Denzel has done. I thought he hit the nail on the head in terms of helping his viewers feel empathy for the character. I have to be honest here. I strongly believe that if you are in your sixties and of African-American heritage this may really hit home on many levels. In general it is a film about holding on to our core values, then forgetting them to join the rest of societal madness only to realize that you were not alone in your view of the world. Restoring your original core only to pay the price of deserting it in the first place. Everyday we see people forfeit family, love and life for materialistic gains and other power trips. This is also about the change of values from one generation to another in today's world. This is a film with a message that has and will go over a lot of heads judging by some of the bad reviews I've read. Awesome sound track consisting of 60's and 70's soul and rock. Excellent character portrayals by all bar none.
The Girl on the Train (2016)
alcoholic divorcée gets into deep trouble.
I thought the trailers to the film were done good. I found the movie in general boring, annoying and a waste of 2hrs. One thing for sure It proves that annoying drunks are really annoying and this annoying person had noting to do but ride a train drawing pictures waiting to pass by a house in the area where she used to live to see the occupants engaging in public displays of affection for one another. The short end, an annoying alcoholic gets her self involved in a murder investigation and just annoys the hell out of everybody until the end. Don't say I didn't warn you. And if you think my use of the word annoying annoyed you then ignore me and go see the movie.
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
a great Valentine Movie
First I must say I had heard about the book, I saw the book on sale everywhere, and really dismissed it as maybe a cheap porn story that somehow got over on the young general public. But, then as time went on I began reading stories in the news of increased pregnancies among women who have read the book and in some cases were experiencing what they believed were fertility problems prior to reading the book. After reading the novel they became pregnant with out the use of fertility drugs and they say that this story inspired them and helped them relax enough to become impregnated. I just had to see the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is at its core a unique love story about give and take, selfishness and selflessness, love and appreciation. It's about "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game". It's about love hurting and healing. If you're going in for the sexual freak aspect you are missing the underlying story which is quite an emotional ride. See this with someone you love or want to love. It may make a big difference or a new start. The two young actors had great chemistry. I will eventually read the book. Uniquely this is sex selling love.
This part 2 documentary is totally awesome and very informative. It answers questions regarding artifacts, and ancient structures built by people of color all over the world. People who are so rooted in the concept of white supremacy will find this information very hard digest and will dismiss it as pure conjecture or comedy as one "Scottish" reviewer already has. As mentioned in the film there is only one race on the planet and that that is the Human race. Every human has something in humanity to celebrate. This is truly a triumph and great contribution to Africa, Native Americans, African Americans and all human beings in general.
