Succession: With Open Eyes (2023)
Doomed to end this way
Try to remember a conversation in season 2 between Logan and Rhea about the successor, when Rhea tells Logan that Shiv thinks she is smart but she is not. From that moment on, every decision Shiv made makes sense.
Yes, all main characters in the show are malicious and wicked. The four siblings are all messed up in their own ways, with Kendall being the more fan favorite because of his suffering. Ken wanted it. He was promised the position while still a kid, he grew up preparing for it, he sacrificed everything, he was programmed to imitate his father only to lose the throne to an empty suit. What a tragedy.
Roman never really wanted it and never would have stepped up. It is obvious he has suffered much abuse in his childhood, ending up with broken character. He smiles at the end with a drink in his hand, when he knows he will not be abused anymore, and he doesn't have to pretend.
But Shiv oh Shiv. The cunning person that believe they are clever. If you've met such a person in real life you know they are exactly like Shiv. Typical example of a woman who has grown up in a patriarchal household. Grown up unempowered, trained to become a princess. And this training kicked in during the final moments, when she indeed became a princess.
The show overall is a masterclass on parenthood and education. You can change the plot a million times, and still the three siblings are doomed to live this exact ending. The ending was dictated by their childhood.
Wednesday (2022)
Wednesday is dark, proper dark.
This series is a masterpiece. It has the right amount of everything, horror, action, drama, and the most difficult to get right which is black humor. Balance is the most difficult to achieve in this genre of series/movies. Personally, I found the original Addams to be too much of everything. Wednesday is dark, proper dark.
Jenna is extremely talented and well suited for this role. I hope we witness her evolution through this series. The famous dance scene is a sight to behold. Tim Burton has also done a great job.
The costumes are great, especially Jenna's outfits. The atmosphere, as well as the magic and mystery provide a harrypotterish vibe.
One star is removed due to abuse of contemporary terms such as "mansplaining", but mostly due to the mass violence scene in the first episode. U. S. Schools have had enough of that already. Kids need to learn how to defend themselves and resolve their issues. Blind rage and violence is not the solution.
Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
Maybe useful if you're a German nationalist
I really cannot understand what is everyone going on about calling this movie a masterpiece. It has a very strong yet simple message, that is well known especially in Europe. War is gruesome. There are no heroes. Only a handful of people have something to gain from wars. Everybody else taking part is just a pawn. Cannot really say that I feel for German soldiers, although they were also "victims" of the war machine, since Germany started two world wars in the first place and their national pride is still undiminished today.
If someone told me that the movie was a student project and not a Netflix production, I would probably believe them. Why did they need two hours to communicate such a simple message.
Ted Lasso (2020)

There comes a show every once in a while that really surprises you and positively affects your perception of life.
I did not expect this at all when I put on the first episode, but I knew Jason would be great as a coach.
The humour, the depth, the clever references, the emotions. The warmth and comfort that only great chemistry can create. The positive energy that we all need, especially on those strange times.
Almost every episode is a mixture of laughing hard and crying at some point.
I saw two seasons in a few days and I cannot wait for the third. Never checked at my social feed during. I hope this series never end.
Rogue Agent (2022)
Haven't seen such a good psychological thriller in a decade.
When I saw the title I thought "another predictable netflix action movie to put me to sleep" and started watching solely because Gemma is in it. Ended up sleeping at 3 am without watching my phone once (which hasn't happen in a long time).
If you haven't heard about this man, you really do not expect the movie to play out the way it does. All the performances are amazing, you can feel the agony and confusion of the victims, you can see in their eyes that they feel lost, weak and helpless.
It is very difficult to comprehend how someone can persuade people in that extent, and very scary nonetheless.
9 stars because I am not familiar with the true events.
StartUp (2016)
Great idea and performances, but lacks in scenario.
Great idea for a series, but the scenario is a bit naive with many many holes. Timeline has a lot of gaps especially in the first season. A slow start to every season and I feel like the cast is carrying the whole show with amazing performances, especially Brody and Edi.
A series about tech and business requires heavy research in order to have the proper depth, and I think that didn't take place.
Not on the level of "Halt and catch fire" or "Billions" but pleasant to watch. Surely better than watching Marvel or Netflix.
The Northman (2022)
Waste of money and time
Not really sure if this movie was a parody of sort or not. Didn't stay to figure it out. The animated scenes looked like a 90's bad videogame, and the directing and scenario were cringe to the bone. Career ending performances for Hawk and Kidman. If you want to see something viking themed watch the Viking series with Ragnar instead.
About Time (2013)
Great movie with lots of surprises.
It was a clever and emotional movie but something about time travel bothered me.
The first time, he traveled with his sister and when he went back he realized he had a different child. So he went back (before going back with his sister) and this problem was fixed.
But, he could not do that with his newborn child to see his dad. He could go see his dad, his 3rd kid would change and then he would go back before seeing his dad. So the kid would be the same.
Other than that, great acting, especially from Rachel McAdams. I can see this being her best role so far. I did not think playing a sweet young girl would suit her, but she exceeded my expectations.
