Is She the Wolf? (2023)
Fake and shallow, waste of time
This whole show is a deception, from the premise to the fake storylines and various concepts in the show, they're all fake. Every single contestant is an up and coming entertainment talent, singers actors and sports etc., none of them have actual deep conversations as to develop anything genuine with each other and every conversation is just I want to talk to you or what are you feeling right now with every single shot prepared perfectly like a Tv drama in that big empty studio. Every pairing had skin deep fake connections like Singles Inferno that is devoid of actual reasons or emotion. The mid season vote off that was supposed to be a climax and shake things up ends up being a complete cop out and nothing at all happened except to disrespect viewers time. The premise of who's the wolf was never cared for by anyone except the hosts trying to hype it up so the whole premise only serves an empty gimmick. Nobody that matched up has any post show updates on their supposed romance, confirming that they are just PR moves by the agencies to cast their talents acting in this fake drama to boosting followers. The whole thing is a lie and will only serve to make the younger generation even more delusional and shallow.
Death to 2020 (2020)
Save yourself and do not watch this trash
Another desperate attempt at regaining the narrative brought to you by the Obama and radical left infiltrated NF, replete with one-sided stories and asinine "humor." This complete waste of resources is designed to brainwash and they're good at it, if you're a normal person that wants to retain your ability to think critically and reasonably then my advice is to stay far away from this trash made by the worst scums of the earth, you will thank me later.
Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj (2018)
Complete trash now
The last bit of respect and hope I had for the show is now completely gone after these latest episodes. It is now a propaganda machine up to its neck in lies, hate, and bias. He's right, this year is super messed up. What is even more messed up is supposedly investigative, dirt-digging, neutral and informative shows like this brainwashing the already crippled masses. You got the platform and opportunity to make a real difference here but no, as soon as events ramped up you showed your true colors and now it's clear who's writing the episodes and who your masters are. Audiences are strongly advised to steer clear of this trash.
Wild Wild Country (2018)
Every opera ends in tragedy, but the parts in between are just so beautiful
Every once in a while you'll come across a story so full of rich details, wonderful characters, and an extraordinary atmosphere, this is one of those.
I have read Osho's books and tried his meditations and have found him full of wisdom to offer but never knew much about his personal life nor this grand experiment that took place in Oregon. I just randomly clicked on this title on Netflix and here is a chapter of Osho's life that captivated me from beginning to end.
You can frame this story in terms of a Master and his relationship to his main disciple Sheela, or a small town's struggle against a massive foreign ideology, or old faith vs. new faith, and it's even reminiscent of the fall of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. Whichever way you look at it, it encapsulates the full spectrum of human experience from deep fear to unconditional love. At times you'll see the same bigotry and self-righteousness of the small town folks in yourself and everyone you know then you'll realize they're not the bad guys, they are just simple people like all of us. And at other times you'll see the Messiah complex and power hungriness of the top Sannyasins in yourself as well and realize that they're not in the wrong either, they just wanted to find a paradise and live the way they wanted to. At the end of the day, all characters in the story are redeemed and were just playing out their part in this grand legacy and what a beautiful legacy it was. Sheela may be a deeply faulted character but she was right in saying the whole thing was like an opera- a tragedy in the end but oh so many beautiful moving parts in between.
Boku dake ga inai machi (2017)
Missed the Mark
Randomly stumbled upon this series on Netflix. Although it had an interesting premise but the show as a whole just never really worked. I never saw the manga or the anime so I'm not comparing this adaptation to its former selves but rather rating it based on how it stands on its own.
Pros:
Some good DP work and great scenery of the Hokkaido region of Japan. Fuji mountain was breathtaking.
Some children actors did a fine job being natural and believable.
Good soundtrack although it gets repetitive.
Good moral message for children (watch out for those loner kids/caring etc.)
Has an interesting blend of fantasy/detective/nostalgia narrative not seen very often
Cons:
Bad script and plot. This is probably the biggest setback and the thing that takes me out the most. For example the mom got killed and instead of describing the killer to the police our guy just starts running because he automatically assumes everyone thinks he is the killer? Why does the main guy acts like he's the most downtrodden manga drawer when he has the most AWESOME ability to rewind time and save people, how about a little pride Satoru?? Why an intoxicated boy strapped to the car seat and plunged head first into ice-cold water can survive? And seriously what is Airi doing all day and how many times can she miraculously meet Satoru on a random street? I don't know how these things happened in the manga but they just don't work in this show and I'm left scratching my head at the weird wooden characters, weird reactions and leap of logic every time.
The world is very small in the series so you could figure out our killer pretty early on and since the reveal in the middle the pacing slows down to snails pace because the amnesia bit drags it out wayyyy too long. I felt like we could lose about 3 volumes there and just go straight for finale it would work better.
The filters.. oh boy the filters. I get it you want to set the mood but perhaps have some moderation. Whoever is responsible indulges way too much with the filters, it's always very blue or very yellow and it squanders a lot of good shots because of the overuse.
The villain development is pretty weak here, I find him much more interesting than Satoru but since we don't really get into his background much so after the whole show I still don't know what the hell he talking about every time he speaks about his "void."
Overall its got it's heart-warming moments and some interesting stuff going on but I think maybe it should have stayed on paper rather than a screen.
Sex: My British Job (2013)
Exploitative and deceitful filmmaking example
Nothing of value is offered by this documentary. In fact it's not even about a narrator who does sex as her job like the title would suggest, it's a housemaid working and observing brothels from a distance, and as such, the film remains skin-deep and devoid of any insight or revelation.
We've all seen the same girls whining and bickering about money and being illegal immigrants on countless other docu films. The preyed upon turned to preying on others, what's there to see? What really bothers me about this film is their way of deceitful filming method of spying on unsuspecting "participants" and then later on selling the whole thing as a film for profit. This is not investigative exploration, it's exploitation on the same level as the way these brothel owners treat their fellow girls (if they don't have legal status then they can't do anything or complain about the filming right?). The undercover lady eventually got extremely bitter about the way she's treated by the owner and went as far as not to mask the owners identity (and even her unflattering naked old body) in the final cut, most likely as a way to "expose" her... very professional indeed. The English subtitle also distorts the owners words in a very negative light when the original spoken dialog weren't that harsh.
This is one fine example on how to do a meaningless and exploitative film with micro budget. A total waste of time.
