I only have a passing interest in the Star Wars franchise and didn't much like the previous instalment. However, I found this to be a truly entertaining movie.
It has all the elements a good movie requires. Humour, excitement, action, a splash of sadness and some surprises. I felt that both the main characters had found their stride from the previous movie and that the acting and production values were excellent. Sure, there were one or two elements that could be viewed as being re-used from the other Star Wars films, but isn't this true for all franchises? I thought that there was a lot of new stuff too and liked the direction the movie was going in.
To be honest, I suddenly felt like I had gone back in time and had that feeling where you weren't de-sensitised to everything. Where you came out of the movie theatre sad, because the great experience was now over.
I wasn't a fan of Star Wars, but I think I am starting to get there.
