Lomax meets up with his old cellmate 'Granny' Jackson (Tom Wilkinson.) It is just so happens that Granny had been involved with Pember. A coincidence too far for Lomax.
On his travels Lomax also spots some rustlers. When he goes to investigate he gets clobbered. It brings him into contact with farmers Bill Sheridan (Julian Glover) and Carol Sheridan (Susan Fleetwood.)
They are not the only farmers whose livelihoods has been badly affected by a sudden upsurge in rustling.
Lomax decides to investigate and it brings him into contact with Don Leckie. A slaughterhouse owner who supplies cheap meat to food businesses.
Just like the previous episode. People band up to take the fight to the baddies. The interesting thing here was the relationship with Lomax and Bill's wife Carol, who might be frustrated. There was a frisson but it remained unexplored.

This is a subversive and frivolous end to the third series. By this time the makers knew that there would be a follow up series. So there was no need to leave it in a junction in case the show was not renewed.
Sergeant-Major 'Shut Up' Williams has a cunning plan to break up the concert party. He wants Gunner Graham promoted to sergeant, as he has a university degree it could be a formality.
Once Graham is gone, the concert party will not have a pianist. Maybe now they could become real soldiers.
The rest are not pleased that Gunner Graham could sell out. So they have a plan to slip a Mickey Finn, get Graham intoxicated and behave badly. Only Rangi Ram finds that the right drink keeps going to the wrong person.
The attempts at a switcheroo was fun. As Rangi Ram had to learn a rhyme as to which glas to give. The resolution was neat as well given it is Sergeant-Major Williams who ends up in a spot of bother.
