Gaami (2024)
All style No substance
While I was impressed by trailer, the movie is simply bad. It started with an interesting premise - a man seeking cure for a rare condition.
As we witness 3 different stories, they weren't engaging enough but you wait to see the connection. The connection is dealt so sloppily and lazily that you feel like you wasted your 2.5 hr of your life. Climax was so rushed and comical that people were laughing in my theater.
The heroine character is badly written. Screenplay is so poor that you notice jarring flaws. The story takes a million liberties which makes everything pointless. Why this movie needed 5 years in making still puzzles me.
Technically the movie is good for first time filmmakers. But it lacks emotional connect, engaging storytelling, overall entertainment value. In name of novelty and experimentation, the plot lost its way. Telugu audiences need better cinema.
Month of Madhu (2023)
Great romantic drama with superb performances!
I simply loved the movie and am surprised that it didn't get better reviews here. May be some of us need empathy to truly appreciate it. Though the story is simple, the performances make it stay with you. Madhumati's story is familiar. But it was very difficult to watch deterioration of Lekha and Madhusudan overtime. Alcoholism is a disease and it destroys you and your loved ones. Actors Naveen, Swathi, Harsha were just incredible so is the newcomer Shreya. The music was lovely. The climax was so heartbreaking and pragmatic. We just hope Lekha finds her happiness and peace; Madhusudan gets treatment and better friends to help him; Madhumati finds love while she understands herself.
If you are in a mood for poignant love stories, I highly recommend it.
Miss. Shetty Mr. Polishetty (2023)
Entertaining rom-com drama from TFI
Honestly I grew jaded by Telugu films. All big actors gave duds this year but this movie looked very promising. I was ready for Naveen's comedy and enjoyed it thoroughly ( kudos for keeping it clean) but this movie belongs to Anushka Shetty. It's her story to carry and the veteran actor she is, carried it so beautifully. Men who watched his film enjoyed the comedy but May be as a woman, I loved how much heart this film has. It's more than a sperm donor story, it about how experiences shape a person and their actions. The interactions and conflicts are engaging and logical.
Songs could be better. The pace of the movie is good, though my bf said it's slow.
TFI has been all about big movies but this year it is year of smaller and entertaining films. I hope they make more of such movies. Don't miss!
Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two (2023)
Weak antagonist and slow narrative
I don't know why this story was attempted as a 2 part movies. Too many characters, unnecessary love stories, weak antagonists. Everything seemed so convenient for PS - spies, Buddhists, boat lady and the funniest character - a freaking rock-climbing and deep-sea diving mute old lady. Characters conveniently teleport from one place to another. What makes the story ridiculous, weak antagonists - who get scared by mute lady's howls?!! Even the main antagonist whimpers at the end. There is never a challenge for PS that makes you root for him. All fights looked so untrained and choppy. Karthi has a sword in a fight sequence and never uses it, why? A random love story for Karthi was unnecessary. Though technically it was okay, there is no Mani Ratnam magic. ARR soundtrack wasn't impressive either. Among all actors, only Vikram stands out. Overall it was not engaging and slow. To the fans of novel, they deserve a better series.
Kantara (2022)
Kantara is a waste of time!
8.9/10?!! What a joke!
I watched the dubbed version so it might have lost in translation. It is a predictable plot which has influences of Karnan, Rangastalam and Puspha.
The story revolves around Shiva, a wayward with haunting PTSD and acts creepy when pursuing his lady love. The villagers keep exploiting the forest resources for their own greed. I almost felt sorry for police officer working among these unsavory characters. Hindu symbolism is very evident but some scenes felt overdone and others borderline comedic. The music was forgettable, action was mediocre and acting was sub par.
Not a masterpiece in any sense of the word, a below average film in my view.
K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022)
War on your senses
Watching this in a theater is pure torture to your ears. This could be great but the overdramatized scenes by the actors make it worse. 2nd half was sloppy making the climax utterly wasted. The sheer loudness of the movie (in literal sense) gave me a headache.
Wish I got my time and money back.
World Famous Lover (2020)
World's Worst Writer
This movie is so bad that you don't even feel invested for one minute. The story attempts to address a failing relationship of 2 people who are so miserable that you simply don't care.. Seems like the story is made of writer's stories which are not connected and has no logic what so ever. No wonder he is a bad writer and his girlfriend left him. Vijay is channeling his Arjun Reddy and Khanna acting is poor. When they were crying, the audience were laughing. There was no chemistry between the actors at all. No one should watch this movie.
