Lauchhammer - Tod in der Lausitz (2022)
Disappointing 6th episode
This series is an above-average German production. If it get's compared to upper level US- or UK-series, it loses in several aspects. But for a German series dialogues are surprisingly ok, sometimes even good. Camera and cut is much better than average German series, I only dislike the audio engineering of voices, too often it appers mumbled and undistinct. I suspect some strange compressor and deesser settings.
Background story wise a lot of post-GDR frustration and disillusion comes into play, an aspect that for non-german watchers can be hard to grasp. The coal mine setting delivers some spectacular views, but in thd long run it becomes redundant and in strange way thrown in artificially.
Story unfolding went in a slow manner but with constant tension which kept me interested throughout, until the final episode. Instantaneously the story turned into a typical seriesmurder story, introducing a new, completely awkwark character, using all stereotypes you seen 1000 times, including the unevitable attempt to kill another girl (yes, it has to be the cop's daughter!) which for sure gets rescued last minute and the muderer committing suicide. This ending was just plain awful, uninspired, clichee laden writing. I was really pissed. On top of that comes a series of "everybody gets happy again" shots which are plain dumb.
Good start, very bad ending.
The Old Man (2022)
Nice start, then loses it
The series started good, high production value, great cast, some pretty good moments, and the dogs! But with episode 4 it declined fast, no idea what happened to the writers, did someone exchange them? The story gets directionless, people act unreasonable. But keep on rambling senseless crap. Plus the dogs lose on screen time, big turndown. Episode 5 was so bad, my wife and I started to look at each other " Do YOU want to continue watching?" Somehow we managed to finish the episode. And that's it. No more episode 6 or 7. As many others tell: Jeff Bridges and John Lithgrow are great, but the script deviates totally to long, senseless semi-monologues.
How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) (2019)
1st season better than 2nd
The 1st season was a real surprise. Funny, refreshing, fast paced. Sorrily the 2nd season loses it a bit and the story telling gets a bit hasty and confusing.
Sons of Anarchy: Fix (2009)
Storytelling speeds up
I was really compelled by 2.3. Faster cuts, main characters clashing, story telling more by pictures and less by dialog. Fewer explanations, just acting and a few key sentences. If the series goes on this way, I'm in.
