Enjoyable but Lacking
8 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There were some great moments in this film, the acting and atmosphere were incredible. It seemed like there were some scenes that were cut from the film to reduce run time, and there were some confusing plot devices. For example: why is social services never called or involved? Why are teachers and principals breaking and entering into the home of a known meth manufacturer just out of curiosity? Where are all the police? Why don't the police follow protocol like calling for back up? There were several times where the plot only moved forward due to the stupidity of the characters, and things happening that would never happen in the real world. Overall it was enjoyable because the acting from the child actor who plays Lucas and the actor who plays the father was phenomenal, and the cinematography was incredible. It was a dark and disturbing film that was a great metaphor for generational trauma but it could've been better executed.

Very good
20 April 2017
This was a very enjoyable show. The writing was good, the acting was good, and the plot was very interesting. I also really enjoyed the imagery and character interactions. I thought it was very realistic. I watched the entire show in just a week. I will say that it is a little drawn out and slow moving, and some of the dialogue was strange (although this might be because the English translation was a little to formal), but overall I really enjoyed this show. It would be great for anyone who appreciates more subtle acting and a dark story.

The movie did its job
16 April 2017
Fate of the Furious, or Fast 8, was exactly what you wanted it to be and more. The storyline wasn't as interesting as Fast 6 or 7, but still made for a good plot. The pacing was a bit weird, and I felt like some characters were kind of left out of the storyline (Letty and Tej), but overall it was a great time. Hot girls, beautiful and fast cars, AMAZING action sequences, and just enough emotion and drama to remind us what really matters: family. Definitely recommend if you liked the other movies, or you're just looking for a fun, entertaining, and visually stunning action movie.

Horrifying (in a good way)
14 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What makes a show great is not the drama, or the set, or costumes, but the realness of the characters in the story. This show delivers that. The premise is that a brilliant criminal defense lawyer hires five students to work with her and compete for a permanent position at her firm. But, they all become involved in several murders that make life extremely complicated for them. The acting is superb, the writing is addicting, Viola Davis is INCREDIBLE, and you can feel the characters emotions like they're your own. That is what makes this show so addicting.

Honestly, if you like American Horror Story, you will enjoy this show. It's somewhat similar because of the awfulness of the situations that these poor people find themselves in. It is sometimes painful to watch, but very rewarding because the storyline is so intriguing. Definitely recommend if you're in need of a new TV addiction.

Awful
5 December 2016
I didn't even make it through the first episode of this show. The premise sounded interesting, but within the first five minutes of the series premiere, I knew this would be a mind numbing teen drama under the guise of a sci-fi. The acting is awful, the pacing is rushed, the characters aren't likable, I could go on. Aside from the scientific holes that were already apparent in the first episode, the entire situation and the characters behavior were very unrealistic. Why couldn't they just send down something that could detect radiation? Why did they send their youngest and healthiest to almost certain death? Why 100 out of only 4000? Basically the writers threw all rationality and logic out the window in order to make what they thought would be a creative take on the whole sci-fi apocalyptic thing, but instead ended up with a dumb teen drama that happens to take place in a sci-fi universe. Don't waste your time with this show.

One of the best shows I've ever seen
11 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This show is truly genius. It starts out as an intriguing procedural with the premise that a very intelligent man creates an all seeing AI and sells it to the government for protection against terrorist attacks. The "Machine" as they call it, separates the threats into two categories: relevant to national security, and irrelevant to national security. Horrified that the government couldn't care less about the irrelevant threats (everyday crime and murder) Harold Finch enlists John Reese to save peoples lives, but with a twist. The machine has been coded to only give a social security number in order to protect the public's privacy. Now Finch and Reese must save lives with limited information and keep the streets of NYC safe.

What I love about this show is that it gradually transitions from a crime of the week procedural into a serialized sci-fi drama about global Surveillance and government corruption. Other characters are introduced throughout the first and second season. Fusco and Carter as NYPD insiders, Root as the techno-zealot who the machine tags to be her analog interface, and Shaw as the tactically brilliant, and slightly sociopathic ISA operative gone rogue, who Reese and Finch add to their crime fighting team. As the show enters into season three, it seems to become a new show, with the addition of terrorist groups, another AI, government corruption and conflicts, with the heart of the show centered on the relationships the main characters have with each other and the sacrifices they must make to protect the world.

This show is a brilliant blend of action, drama, politics, sci-fi, and some very realistic, almost-romance, that will make you fall in love with the characters, and keep you on the edge of your seat until it's fantastic end. As it is the highest rated show on Netflix, I hope someday soon it is rebooted because it is truly a masterpiece. I would highly recommend it if you are in need of a new TV addiction that is appropriate for young teenagers as well.

Pilot had promise, immediately plummeted
11 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I started this show the other day because I was sick and in need of a binge watch. The pilot episode was pretty good, some of the acting was questionable and there were a few over the top clichés, but the premise was interesting and I wanted to see where the show went. I only got three episodes in before I started skim watching the episodes. This entire season could've been trimmed down to about five episodes, they were so full of ridiculous filler and clichés. The pregnant girlfriend, unlikely love interest, lovers separated by the wall, kid being bratty but the show disguised it as bravery, all of the crazies come out. It was ridiculous. What makes shows great is the realism within the fantasy world, and this show had none of that. None of the characters acted like normal humans. The acting was bad, the premise spiraled into chaos, I have no clue how this show got good ratings on Netflix. Don't waste your time with this show.
