The Dark Knight (2008)
good but overrated
Normally I would give this a 7.5 out of 10 but since I cant' I'll give it a seven. How anyone could rate this title that high on IMDb.com is amazing to me. It's mostly fanboys that believe this is the best movie ever and the best thing since sliced bread but what most fanboys fail to notice because they lack objectivity is that while the movie is a good one, it is quite flawed and nowhere near as perfect as many of the fanboys have rated.
A couple things I noticed when I watch this movie, the movie goes on way too long. Even my friends agreed and they are huge Batman fans. There are about 3 or 4 points in the movie where it seems like it will end but goes on for another 30 minutes. And while Heath Ledger's performance is top notch and Bale as Bruce Wayne is pulled of quite flawlessly, his Batman persona is a bit weak. The voice is annoying, and many times throughout the movie, he seemingly plays second fiddle.
I can't know Eckhart's casting as Two Face but Maggie Gyllenhall just doesn't seem to fit and just seems to be a standalone piece of eye candy.
There are many things I can harp about but I'm not here to knock the movie. There are good points, cinematography great, Joker and Two Face played excellently by their counterparts, mood was effective and story flowed quite well albeit a bit too long.
BUT this movie doesn't even belong in mention to some of the greats and shame on many movie fans that had this movie rated higher than such classics as The Godfather. Obviously the fanboys bought way too much into the hype.
Transformers (2007)
Good Movie
Being a fan of the series, I was a bit skeptical how they would pull this off, but I have to say I was surprised and very happy.
Working at Paramount I was lucky enough to get a viewing before the release and thought the movie was very good. Kept me hooked throughout.
The only thing stopping it from being perfect is the cheesy dialog towards the end but other than that incredible. Battle scenes are awesome, transformers look incredible and story is entertaining. The characters fit in perfectly with their blend of humor and quirks. The good thing is they never take away anything from the Transformers. And the special effects are top notch. Go see the movie. Best movie of the summer by far!
The Naked Cosmos (2005)
Not good
Certainly one of the most bizarre "movies" I have ever seen. What was the point. It just seems like a mess thrown together. We have a character who plays six different people. I commend the man for trying to make a film but at least try. It just seems that for a while we are watching the same exact thing which we are. I actually had some people who also watched the film say what the hell are we watching. Most everyone I have talked to has agreed, what was the point of the whole movie.
Not good at all.
Definitely avoid this at all costs. It just isn't worth the ninety minutes of time. Overall a 1 out of 10.
Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927)
Absolute Excellent
This movie has got to be one of the great silent films. There are few films that can be so simplistic and yet so powerful. This movie is one of them. The plot is simple and easy to follow but the story has probably the best moral of them all, love truly does conquer all. Any fan of cinema has to at least watch this with other silent classics such as "The Crowd" "Greed" and Murnau's other film "The Last Laugh" and "Nosferatu."
The story follows the exploits of the husband, the wife, and the woman from the city. The man and the city woman begin an adulterous affair. Meanwhile, the wife is very unhappy. The city woman proposes that the husband kill his wife and come to the city with her. What will will the husband choose to do? This film is a must watch!
