Little Princess (2006)
Gets on your nerves
There are so many good shows out there. idk why my 6 year old wants to watch this all the sudden. the voices in the background are getting on my nerves. the story is really simple und stupid. yes, little kids might like this show but you need nerves of steel to listen to this in the background. better try something else
Pretty Good for a Netflix Movie :-D
Usually i'm not very fond of most netflix movies. they make great tv shows but for some reason they rarely make a good movie. this time its finally something good. It a Will Ferrell Movie so you already know what to expect. He's not overdoing it in this one though. Not too much over the top. the jokes work well for me.
Of course you pretty much know where the story is going so there are not too many surprises. Except maybe at the end. They found a pretty good ending for the movie. the female lead Rachel McAdams is also great. the have good chemistry together on the screen.
So overall without spoiling anything give it a try and watch the movie! even the music is good!
A solid 7/10
Don't expect "Mad Men" in the 40s
The show is really good! its fun to watch, interesting characters, good actors. ther are not many things to complain about... at first!
this is set in the late 40s (i guess) and it shows the Hollywood Studio system back then how it (probably) worked. a couple of talented people want to enter the Hollywood System and become famous. and they do anything to achieve that goal.
if you expect an accurate depiction of the 40s you will be somewhat disappointed. in parts the do a pretty good job but when it comes to social issues and behaviour its more like in modern times. especially in later episodes it only scratches the surface of their social problems and don't go deep enough. Instead they prefer to do "the right thing" and give you social justice and political correctness which doesn't really fit in. especially the last episode is awful. it feels like Kindergarten where every child gets a medal for participating. thats not what would have happen in the 40s. I was very disappointed with the ending of the show.
Without the last episode this could have been a solid 8/10. but unfortunately the last episode brings it down to a good 7/10.
Workin' Moms (2017)
not for guys
I had the "pleasure" to listen to that show since my wife is watching it and i happen to be in the same room so i didn't really watched it but i heard a lot. and what i heard was the kind of stuff you probably only watch if you are a woman. the have been some strange cringeworthy dialogue that was awful. strange "jokes". i never heard my wife laugh. i don't know why she watches it.
since i didn't really watched it (only listened to it) it may not be fair to rate this show but to be honest... i didn't like what i've heard. i never want to watch it.
4/10 should be at least a fair rating... better than 1/10 that is :-)
just three letter... WTF?
Thats what i was thinking almost every 5 minutes... WTF? and not the good kind. there are things happening that makes you question what they were thinking. its the usual process... it needs to be bigger, more dramatic, more action, more and more of everything... but its just over the top. its like a caricature of star wars. again they repeat certain scenes from the original trilogy as a fan service which might be nice for some but i think it was unnecessary. the played it safe and unlike Episode VII they failed this time.
the only think that worked were some really emotional moments. they managed to wrap up the story in a respectful way at least.
now it becomes really hard to describe anything without spoiling the movie.
i really wanted to like the movie but i cannot. and i even liked the last jedi! yeah, it had its flaws but at least it has taken some risks. i wished i could give it at least a 7 but honestly its just a solid 6! maybe 6 and a quarter :-D
Overrated and boring grinding
Yes, i knew what i was getting into. i played Dark Souls and beat the Endboss. so i know how it feels like to suffer.
There will be a few people who have great skills and will beat the game in maybe 10-20 hours. most people will probably need something around 50-100 hours grinding level ups to beat the bosses. thats a crazy amount of time doing the same thing over and over again. yes, the game gets easier over time. when you kill the same NPCs for the 100th time you know exactly what they do and it gets really easy. unfortunately you kill the same NPCs for hours because you want five level-ups so the next boss is easier because you are stuck there. and when you died at a boss fight you cannot immediately try again. No! you need to walk there again which is another two minutes lost. the game is good, no doubt about it. but would it hurt to put an easy mode in? they wouldn't need to make the bosses easier but faster level-up. Not loosing your currency when you die and stuff like that would definitely be a nice option.
Apart from that the game doesn't really explain how the game mechanics work. you need to watch youtube videos to get a few tipps before you really know whats going on and how to use the controls properly. that could have been way better!
the are not much NPCs with dialog. But when they speak, they speak insanely slowly! To level up you need to click 6 times the X Button to skip the few lines of very slowly spoken text to reach the level-up menu. thats not good at all!
so overall its a good game in general but its very hard and you really need to like very hard games to enjoy this. otherwise this is not for you, except to have a hundred hours to waste :-)
Dead to Me (2019)
not any good if you watch this in german
To be fair i only listened to the dialog since my wife is watching and i didn't really watch... and it was also the german version and not original sound. Its possible that they messed up the german syncro. the dialog sounds awful and wooden. no sure if this show is any better in english original sound but its probably better than what they did here...
Stay away if you are a guy...
To be fair i should mention that i didn't really watch the show. my wife did 6 feet away from me and i was listening to the dialog every now and then. and what i heard was awful. its a show made for woman. since i'm a guy i don't really understand why you want to watch something like this but again i'm not the target audience :-D
really wanted to like this but i can't
I never read the books so i don't know how close the movie is to the original story. but as a movie it tries hard to be great but ends up mediocre at best. it got everything a good movie should have (according to Hollywood) and thats the problem. it follows the usual scheme of "how to structure a movie everyone likes". but in reality this just makes sure it isn't a complete Desaster. its hard to explain without spoiling the story but i expected much more from Tim Burton. at least some of the visuals were quite nice.
The New Legends of Monkey (2018)
Great if you are into this kind of entertainment
This show is certainly not for everyone! but if you like this kind of movie its actually pretty good. i don't know the original show so i don't know if its better or worse but its a lot of fun. good action. nice story. great characters. everything comes together perfectly.
like i said before its not for everyone so if you don't like this genre this will probably be a 5.0 for you. if you like this kind of movies its an easy 7.5!
i'm looking forward for the second season :-)
They tried hard and it almost worked...
But failed in the end...
the general structure of the movie is actually alright. it has the right characters, the story is sufficient enough but unfortunately there is a lot missing to make it a decent or even good movie. the script could have needed some additional work. some minor changes here and there could have improved the movie drastically.
the biggest problem is still the CGI. it was bad in 2004 and aged very very bad. video games look better today! in the end its a sometimes mediocre and sometime bad movie. its barely a 5/10.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
good ending... almost...
Right now everyone like to hate the last season of GOT. everyone is a critic and can tell you exactly what went wrong. but you can do this with almost every movie or tv show out there and destroy even the best movies with critique. but honestly this last episode was actually pretty good. you may not like the fate of some of the main characters but overall a strong episode.
don't expect some great revelation or twist the last minute. it was very clear where this is moving to from previous episodes. i don't know if this would have been better if the books were already out. maybe the dialogue might been slightly better but apart from that a good ending in general but most people probably hated it. my rating would be a 7.8.
Good show with some Issues
I don't really know the "original" Sabrina show from 20 years ago soi can't tell anything about similarities or differences. but if you are looking for comedy then turn away. if there is humor at all its usually pretty dark stuff. of course this isn't a bad thing. the tone of the show fits perfectly with the story and i really enjoy watching it. there are only a couple of things i really don't like.
some decisions people make and some dialog is completely BS. like people given "funny" remarks in dangerous situations where thats the last thing you would be thinking about. it doesn't improve the show or situation, it just makes your eyes roll. luckily those situations are rare enough to not destroy the show.
i would give the show something like an 7.7 maybe for the first season.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Not as bad as everyone says
Yes, the last season has problems. big problems indeed! things are happening too fast the whole season. feels like they shrunk two seasons into one und cut out half of the story. they really rush to the finish line now.
if you expect this episode to be bad then it probably will be. but if you watch without prejudging it its actually a pretty nice episode. a far cry from earlier seasons but still better than the final season of Lost for example ;-)
Life of the Party (2018)
Unfortunately a pain to watch
I'm reviewing only the first half of the movie since i won't continue watching. the idea of the movie might sound like it could be good but somehow it fails to deliver. usually i like Melissa McCarthy but here her style of comedy and talking just feels out of place. and the way the story progresses is predictable and lame. this is no "old school" kind of movie which was a lot of fun. its just boring. even the first party in the movie is like the most lame party ever. of course i could be wrong and the second half of the movie will improve a lot but i really doubt that. for me personally its more of an 3 of 10. But objectively a 5 of 10 seems more than fair for that movie.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Finally a good DC movie in recent years
I have to confess i'm not a fan of Superheros. Until i was 20 i thought there was only Batman and Superman. And i only watched the Batman movies so far. Never read a comic book except Mickey Mouse when i was 10. So when all those Superhero Movies came out i never knew what to except. i watched most of them but almost never at the movies but at home. Since DC is trying to do what marvel does most of their movies are more or less mediocre. But not this time! Finally everything is exactly as its supposed to be. You got a good story, great actors, especially Gal Gadot is amazing. The perfect choice for this character.
the movie is a good mix of action, story, and heart. just the right balance without overdoing it. so if you are reluctant to watch this like i used to be. just give it a try! you might be surprised!
on par with Jurassic Park 3
In a lot of ways the movie starts like Jurassic Park 2. A lot of parallels in the story. but it adds a lot of new stuff to the story so its not too close to the second movie. But although i really liked Jurassic Park 2, this one here has a lot of problems. A lot of people make really stupid decisions that are not rational. decisions that are so stupid, you only do them because it was written in the script. no sane human being would do that. and those bad decisions just to move the story forward really destroys the movie in many ways. otherwise the special effects are great and you get some decent action here and there. its fun to watch once and never again.
The Dragon Prince (2018)
Great show. you should really try it
I want to keep this short. what really stands out in the show is that the "bad guys" are not necessarily bad. they make bad choices and use dark methods to achieve their goals. but they are not (yet?) really evil and rotten to the core.
then there is real character development for most characters. great animation. great story. it could very well be the background story of an epic anime video game. so overall its definitely worth giving it a try.
pretty good but still lots of flaws
Well, i don't remember too much of the original show but in general the show is pretty good. i like the changes they did to the show. a continuous story that makes more sense than the original. so the show has a solid base to build on. the things i don't like is the drawing style. in the original they looked like real adults and had its own style. but now it looks more like an anime and all characters are teenagers. its not a bad style but doesn't feel right somehow. and the show isn't dark enough. i'm sure the original was much darker than this one. its slightly too colorful for my taste.
one of the highlights is probably the relationship between She-Ra and Catra. I really like how they handled this. its not all black and white, good and evil. its more complex. i'm actually rooting for catra :-)
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
One of the best in 2018
You take a couple of people, all with different agendas and put them in a hotel. then everything goes wrong. thats basically the story of the movie and a really great one! of course the movie plays with the viewer. stuff is happening and of course you expect certain things to happen next and BOOM. something totally unexpected happens... Thats something you don't see very often in movies. The movie plays right in Tarantinos League. The Story is well written. great music. great scenes. great editing. definitely something too see more than once.
A solid 8 from me after first viewing!
Still great in 2018
This is one of the rare occasions where i can review a movie that i've seen as a kid at the movies almost 30 years ago. it made a big impression on me back then. batman became my favourite superhero to this day! i might add that batman ist the only superhero i like because i'm not really into superhero movies :-) and it has a lot to do with the style of Tim Burton. Its a dark movie. It has a lot of that Comic Book DNA but they don't overdo it like in the third and fourth batman movie of that Era. Sadly when watching this at 1080p you recognise a lot of matte paintings used for background, drawed animation used in some scenes and a lot of miniature action scenes. but putting this aside the movie still holds up today as a true classic Batman Movie from the 80s. The Cast is great. Especially Jack Nickolson as the Joker is amazing.
My Rating as an 11 year old was probably 9. nowadays its more like an 7.5 so i gave it a solid 8.
2012 looks like a masterpiece in comparison
Its not as bad as everyone says but it really is far away from being any good.
its your typical disaster movie. not a tiny bit realistic. lots of things break. lots of people dying. and in the middle of it a plot with no original ideas. it gets a 5 from me because its a decently made movie. with a much better script this could have been better.
Could have been better
The Movie starts pretty weak, boring actually. the costumes looked cheap. the visuals weren't very interesting. something felt wrong here. its your typical CGI spectacle with nothing really "new". its hard to explain without spoiling anything. the writing was also not the best here. especially the relationship between the two main characters felt forced at times. the movie took over an hour to start becoming at least a little interesting. its something you watch one time and then never again.
Cars 3 (2017)
Good Sequel! Better than the Cars 2
The first Cars movie was awesome and it jumpstarted a lot of rip-offs tv shows for children. talking cars or talking planes everywhere nowadays... cars was the origin and of course there have been two sequels to that movie. while the first sequel felt forced onto the franchise this one here fits perfectly. a great continuation about how his career would develop over the years. he's not a rookie any more... he's not as fast as he used to be... he needs to find out how to solve this... the hints about where the story goes are subtle and reach the right conclusion in the end. and its feels like this might also be the final movie for the franchise but who knows...
it a solid 7. if you loved the first one you will love this one as well
The Fall (2013)
Not for everyone
To be fair i only watched the first two episodes. could not watch any more of it. it was simply very boring! the story is good so far but nothing great or special. what really drives me away is the very dry approach to deliver whats happening. very dry and well... very boring in a way. its kept very realistic. for some people this might work and it could be an 8. but if you are like me you expect something else... something less... dry... i don't know how to explain. just try it for one episode. if you are bored as i was, leave it.
