Really, really terrible. Long and boring, the main characters (most notably Murphy) were all terrible people, and there's horribly disgusting transphobia in it.
Life Partners (2014)
If it weren't for the biphobia in the film (the one bi/sexually fluid character is portrayed as unstable and "not gay enough" to be with), I probably would've given it a six or seven. This is far too common in media, and the stereotype is damaging.
As it was the film did portray well some of the issues of growing up and how it affects one's friendships.
I did relate to some of the issues the women went through.
It doesn't really reach very deeply though, and the ending is rather lackluster.
There was some good humor in the film, but the writing really needed polishing.
It was nice to see a mainstream film portray a non-straight main character.
Gabourey Sidibe was sorely underused as a minor supporting character.
The Boxtrolls (2014)
Could've been much better
Overall it was OK. It had some great elements that sometimes came together well, but often didn't. The ending was lackluster. It was very funny, occasionally.
What ruined it for me was the transphobic content. Otherwise I probably would've given it a 6. That was completely unnecessary and offensive.
The best part of the whole thing was in the credits at the end, so if you do see it, make sure to wait for that.
I really expected more from the same people who made ParaNorman, which was great and very inclusive.
I'm really surprised this won the Oscar over The LEGO Movie--that was way better.
I have only watched a couple episodes of this before, but I found them interesting and largely unbiased. I was hoping despite the topic of this episode it would manage to be unbiased, but it was not. The pro-choice woman, Jennifer, did a lot of whining and complaining. The pro-lifers shown were mostly extreme protesters, while many pro-choice politicians and such were shown (as well, the host is shown having a good "chuckle" with someone he's interviewing who finds anti-abortion laws "backward").
I would have much preferred the episode to show both sides without making judgments. It also would have been nice for it to show some new information from both sides, rather than simply rehashing the known arguments.
Doctor Who: Partners in Crime (2008)
My least favorite episode so far
I was surprised that this episode was so poor. I liked Donna's appearance in the Christmas episode, but in this episode, she seemed almost completely different and didn't really appeal to me at all. I did think the baby aliens were cute, and I liked Donna's grandfather. I don't think I'm going to especially enjoy having Catherine Tate as a recurring character on the show.
I was planning on giving the episode a 3/10, until Rose showed up. She is my favorite companion of this series so far (well, she and Captain Jack, but fortunately he has his own show), and I was disappointed to see her go. I'm glad she's back, in whatever form.
