Good not great, feels rushed , could have been better
So this film is definitely not a big budget masterpiece and it cannot compare or be listed at the same league as the super buget films out there but it certainly has some redeeming qualities.
The plot is nothing soecial but still engaging, the acting was pretty good from Artur Roberts who plays the Psychiatrist. The lead actors were both decent for first time comers and with experience and training they might grow into something big.
Cinematography was excellent, howvete, the biggest probelm with the film is the editing which seems rushed, both the scene editing and sound editing fail miserably here. Some of the suspenseful scenes seemed rushed and so fails to build up tension.
The sound editing was also awful, espcially during some of the action more tense parts you feel there is lack of loud sound effects that makes the scene powerful.
Generally a decent effort, that could have been better perhaps if put in more professional hands and proper editing. Worth a watch at least to support independent films to make better films for sure.
Fuller House (2016)
Wow, much better than expected
I watched the first four episodes today on Netflix, and I must say, i was pleasantly surprised. I was having doubts of this return / reboot of one the cutest family shows from the 80s/90s, but the show blew me away from the Pilot episode. DJ, Stefanie and Kimmi are back, now as grown ups where DJ needs to raise her 3 sons by herself, and of course require help. Danny, Jessie and Joey are also back, mainly as guest stars im guessing throughout the season. The show starts fresh with frequent recalls of events of the older show, the director even gives us split screen scenes with both the new and older show scenes playing. Subtle funny moments and not going over the top as i was expecting, with hilarious puns and jokes from the older show. The family battle newer challenges with their newer kids like the obsession with electronic tablets, etc Sadly, there is no Michelle, that the whole cast acknowledge in quite a funny way during the first episode! Who knows, she might be brought back in the future. In summary, such a great, heartwarming and funny reboot for the whole family to enjoy
If you saw the trailer, then you've seen this film
Had high hopes for this movie, but it really disappoints. For some reason, these spy spoof films seem to fail, Mortdecai starring Johnny Depp is one example, nothing recent comes close to the Austin Powers films. this one sees Melissa Mccarthy playing a CIA agent who volunteers to get into the field. the movie is quite predictable and all the funny parts feel forced, and the better scenes are all seen in the trailer, basically, if you've watched the trailer then you watched the best parts of the film and you can just skip the rest. all characters are very annoying and none are likable, no real backbone history of any of them.
action was lame, and boring.
Jason Statham and Rose Byrne, two of my favorite actors fail to impress here, probably because of what they had to work with, and the poorly written script. I really got bored mid way through the film and wanted to leave, the plot is slow and you just keep waiting for the funny parts that never arrive, or do arrive but you've already seen them in the trailer.
I'd skip this one.
Project Almanac (2015)
An insult to movie goers intelligence
Just watched this last night, and I have to say it is one of the worst time travel films I have seen. For starters, the writing is a joke, the whole plot is weak and lacks any logic or intelligence for a movie based on science!! It is not smart and is filled with stupid plot holes that are quite insulting to us movie lovers. A lazy work of writing here.
The acting does not add anything special from a group of teen wanna bes. The shaky camera angle was also boring and distracting to say the least.
It actually started out well and showed potential as it created interest as the characters struggled to create the time machine, but once they succeeded, the film just felt flat and did not have any direction or goal and it lost its intrigue.
Save yourself the time and money and skip this lazy attempt of time travel film making, if anything, it did not learn anything from previous films of the same genre
American Sniper (2014)
Weak film, average at best!
I am really starting to believe that the Academy Awards are corrupt and they tend to nominate films and directors based on names and not based on the actual movie. still they do make some worthy nominations, but films like American Sniper being nominated really pisses me off!! OK, so i understand that its based on a real American hero, and that is nice, but telling the story was terrible here, the film fails as a motion picture to watch, yet it still gets the nomination for an Oscar for best picture. One thing i know for sure, it won't win!!
the film is a series of clichés, one after the other, totally predictable from start to finish, and rips off many war films lacking in originality to the story. the whole film feels so familiar and you would seem to feel you have watched it before in countless movies and TV shows before, the whole American soldier struggling with emotions and effects of war, the PTSD, just lame and done soooo many times before, its old!
I also understand that at times, you need to retell stories, and remake certain genres of movies and reintroduce them with a new twist or take, but here, the visions of Eastwood as director lacks big time and he does not add anything special or worthy to the film.
Bradely Cooper does a good job, he is a good actor. but again, his role here was typical and the storyline did not help.
some nice action sequences here and there, but nothing that tops a Call of duty game action scene.
the whole film feels empty, it suffers from void. and despite the prolonged character development, you still don't get strongly attached to the characters, especially the wife who keeps complaining that Chris is always away, and when he is at home, he is not really there!! we really don't see her suffering, and so she ends up being a whining lame wife.
A weak film, predictable, average at best.
Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
An Honest Review
I have to say that trying to make a film based on religious and Biblical stories is never an easy task, and i like that Ridley Scott accepted that challenge, though the odds where always against him. I see a lot of negative reviews here, and i can see where they come from. the biggest problem with the film, is that we all know the story already, we read it so many times and watched several older film based on the same story, this really takes out a lot of the intrigue associated with watching a film. for example, as the movie goes on, i was constantly thinking, OK so when will Moses be banished, and then after that, OK so when will the plague start. so basically i was waiting for the next event to occur which eliminates the joy of watching this.
Other people are not happy with the religious aspects of the film, this is of no bother to me, because it is just a movie and the director is trying to take his own vision on the story. I am not going to be upset with changes from what is written in the scriptures, it is just a movie!
Having said all that, the movie still suffers in certain areas in terms of film making. As many have already mentioned, the casting director did not do a great job with the cast, for me, i did not mind seeing Bale as Moses, he is a great actor and can blend in any role, and at least he has a dark complexion and dark hair. My problem was with Aaron Paul, the guy just does not pass as a Jew in anyway, he is white, blue eyes, blond hair, tiny body! he just does not fit as a Jew in anyway! i was distracted by his presence in the movie, not that he is a bad actor.
the Cinematography and Direction, were brilliant, so were the special effects. However, we all know that these alone do not make a great movie. the film suffered from pacing problems, midway and around the end, the pace was very slow making the film feel boring at times. again, us knowing and constantly waiting for the next event might have also contributed to that! acting was also very good, Bale was excellent.
so to summarize, i think the film is unjustly being bashed as the worst film in history, which is not the case, it is still a watchable film but it does have flaws, ending up being an average film. could have been better. But i am not sure how to make such a story better?? do you?
Ahead of its time, and not in a good way
Just came back from the Theater after watching Interstellar, wow what a ride. there are so many talking points, so many twist and turns and it has to be one of the toughest films to rate.
let me start by saying, the film was excellent in terms of Cinematography, direction and Effects.
It also had a brilliant twist at the end, a very unique concept of dimensions and time, however, that same concept was a bit of a stretch, it was all based on theories and is just way too difficult to comprehend and ultimately believe, which weakens the films in my opinion.
I felt lost in the details and events happening in the film because most of it was based on too much scientific talk, so i was lost in translation so to speak! Had difficulty knowing what was actually going on at certain points.
I guess Nolan was concentrating on the Drama here, on the emotions, however, i still think not paying attention to the details weakened the film. Another problem, was the dialog! several times during the film and at key moments, the dialog was not clear, making it even harder to understand key parts of the plot! not sure if it was a sound editing problem or the writing or was it the actor's delivery of the line!
The movie does succeed in terms of the drama and the emotions, i particularly loved the relationship arch between Cooper and his Daughter Murphy. acting was superb from most involved.
so to sum it all up, i thought the film was good and entertaining, but suffers from dialog problems and too much Science talk, it was like it was too much ahead of its time, in a bad way. perhaps, in the future, once we discover the 5-D physics, we might appreciate this film more.
John Wick (2014)
Brilliant Action film, one of my favorite Keanu Reeves' films
This film is brilliant, none stop action from start to finish. Keanu Reeves is back here, proving that he has all it takes to compete with the best action film stars like Jason Statham and Liam Neeson.
the movie has a simple revenge plot that is executed to perfection, your typical retired Hit-man forced back into action after a Russian mob kill his dog.
the action scenes are out of this world, very well choreographed action sequences that resembles something out of a video game, think Call of Duty! the choreography of the scenes and the way John Wick handles a gun during gun fights are superb and very unique. Keanu deserves lots of credit for his talent in action scenes and delivering some of the stunts him self. his acting has improved, yes we all know he's not award winning actor, but he still delivers a lot in terms of charisma and character that he brings to the screen. this is definitely one of my favorite Keanu Reeves' films, and my best action film of the year. i strongly recommend this film to all action fans, Keanu fans, and any movie fans looking for some solid entertainment. i plan to go watch this a second time in the theaters!
Chucky meets his match in Annabelle
Brilliant Horror film ! while I was watching the film at a packed movie theater, I was thinking Chucky has finally met his match in Annabelle. not that Annabelle the movie is anything like the Child's play films, it is very different and perhaps the only common factor they share is the presence of a doll.
the movie was executed professionally, everything was top notch, from direction to Cinematography, and from acting to plot and dialog, everything was in place. I also loved the 70s vibe, and the lead actress Annabelle Wallis playing Mia was also excellent.
the movie had its shares of scares, jump out of your seat surprises but nothing over the top, it might not be as scary as people might be expecting and hence some of the negative reviews here from other users. However, I thought the movie was well balanced and relied mainly on story and character rather than being overtly scary, which was perfect in my opinion and it what made it so good and successful in my eyes.
I highly recommend this, a good Horror film to start October with and prepare for Halloween. go watch it
Left Behind (2014)
How did this make it to the big screen ?
this should have been a straight to DVD film. one of the worst movies I've seen this year. the acting was amateur, the plot was boring and the challenges facing our heroes in the film are all clichéd and boring. I wonder why Nicolas Cage agreed to make this, must be really desperate. and a very lousy soundtrack, the whole film looks like a very bad 90s B film.
the lead heroine who's Nic Cage's character's daughter just keeps running aimlessly throughout the film with dramatic clichéd tearful eyes. dialog about righteousness with that annoying background music was beyond boring. the single fact that this film made it to the big screen is a mystery to me. avoid it for your own good, watch Annabelle instead, a very solid Horror film released the same day as this drivel.
Autumn Blood (2013)
Failed to impress despite the wonderful Cinematography and brilliant acting
I appreciate the effort by the director, he was really trying to create and make a unique experience in film making, which ultimately failed due to several flaws.
first of, the film captures some of the most beautiful scenery of nature shown in film, very wonderful and breathtaking cinematography.
the acting was also very solid with most involved, especially the lead actress who produced a brilliant performance.
So where did it all go wrong ?
I say the script is at fault here, the character development and backgrounds lacked big time. we really did not have enough background about these people, who are they ? what do they do ? what is the issue with their father and the bad guy ? who are the bad guys ? why are they bad ? too many questions lacked explanations and hence leading to poor definition of characters, ultimately leading to lack of tension and intrigue. I really could not care less what happened to anyone in the film, the villains or bad guys did not scare me enough despite the early rape scene, and the lead heroine or protagonist character failed to make the connection with the viewers, at least with me, enough.
the plot was decent, started out well but eventually turned into another human hunt film which as i mentioned lacked enough tension and intrigue.
one minor note is the unique lack of dialog, the whole film possibly contains around 15 to 20 lines of dialog only, it was unique film making, but could it have been the reason of lack of character definition and development ? in that, is why i believe the actress was superb, as she relied on her talent of body language and face expressions in her acting, and deserves praise.
I got really bored at the end, that i started to fast forward the film to see how it ended. i won't recommend this to anyone, but you might as well give it a try and judge for yourself.
Terrible Angels (2012)
I am not wasting my precious time on this drivel
How in the hell did Micheal Madison agree to appear in this movie ? I have to say, this was one terrible and unwatchable movie, everything about it is low grade and just awful.
very poor video editing, terrible sound editing, wooden acting and awful amateur direction make this one of the worst movies i was about to see, seems everyone involved in this movie is talentless. yes i could not continue watching beyond the 11th minute of this drivel, and stopped right then and there. it was like watching an amateur video done by regular people on Youtube rather than an actual marketed film produced and released on DVD by whom supposed to be professional film makers ! i know it is a low budget film, but still i have seen many low budget movies that are way more professional and better than this.
I have to be fair and give this film 2 stars because of the remote possibility that it might have gotten better after the 11th minute, which i doubt given the repulsive, unskilled and amateurish start to it.
make yourself a favor and avoid this drivel, spend your time on something better, please
Very good sequel, Lawrence is amazing
Why are there so many people hating this movie ? when i first heard of the Hunger Games and the hype surrounding it, i was not at all excited or interest in it. However, being an avid movie fan, i had to watch the first one, and found it pretty good with good action and decent story, not to mention the excellent acting.
Still, i did not become a fan of the series, and so when this second movie came out, i did not rush to watching it, until i watched the Blu ray, and i was just attached to the TV from start to finish, it was full of intrigue and visually stunning. the Character of Katnis played brilliantly by Jennifer Lawrence was interesting to follow as she developed from being the scared girl who follow rules to stronger girl.
people here seems to miss the point of the movie, yes it might feel incomplete because it seems to be one part of the next upcoming movies and that is why people seem to rate it poorly. the point of the movie is actually focused on Katnis the character, as she develops and grow in so many ways.
people seem to see it as a repetition of the first, but there were plenty of differences, this one was sharper and deeper, sorry to say some have failed to see that. this might come as a surprise to some, but i found this one to better than the first movie !
the Games were fun and though did seem rushed, again for the purpose of the bigger picture, however, decent action scenes, and an atmospheric game arena the resembles the tropic jungles.
and everyone seems to rate the acting highly, which is exactly the case, each actor playing their roles perfectly, most seem comfortable to return back to their roles from the first film and seem to have grown into it.
Visually it is also stunning to look at. OK so it is not a masterpiece, and this coming from a person who is not even a fan of the movies, but it is an excellent movie not to be missed. i thought the 2 hours and 26 minutes rushed by quickly.
just like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, this film is only part of a whole and cannot be rated accurately without seeing the whole series, it does manage to set up for the next one, and now im excited to see the next. Will i become a fan of the series ? i might as im not far out from that.
check it out
Blue Jasmine (2013)
Brilliant performance by Blanchette, wonderful film
Cate Blanchette shines here with her brilliant performance, definitely worth the Oscar nomination. I have always liked Cate, and became a fan ever since i saw her in the Missing, i was blown away with her performance, and the thing is she keeps getting better and better.
She brings so many layers to her character here, as she plays a spoiled rich lady who falls apart and losses everything after her husband played by Baldwen is convicted of stealing people and engaging in illegal activities, we follow Cate's character Jasmine as she moves to San Fransisco to stay at her sister's house as she tries to rebuild her life and recover her losses and her sanity.
Such a wonderful film, nicely written and directed by Woody Allen, the master of human relationships dramas. He manages to bring us a realistic picture of humans at their weakest points, how flawed we really are no matter how much we try to be at our best. Almost all characters here are flawed one way or the other, and the movie manages to capture the changes and depths of them. All actors do a great job here.
Cate Blanchett is superb and flawless in her performance, unlike her character ironically.she manages to display a variety of emotions, personality traits and anxieties and insecurities in her character. Bravo . Sally Hawkins, who plays Jasmine's sister Ginger was also excellent, both deserve the Oscar nominations.
Its the Oscars season, and this film is quite Oscar worthy and very enjoyable, go watch it. The Academy got this one right, unlike the undeserved nominations of the awful Wolf of Wall Street movie, that one sucked. Blue Jasmine is highly recommended.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Poor over the top performance by Dicaprio, boring overlong movie
So Dicaprio is nominated for an Oscar for his role here ? What rubbish, while his acting is about OK, he does carry his role over the top, he over acts in too many of his scenes, seemed unbelievable. Always over screaming, shouting out loud speeches with inflated neck veins that does not seem to look real or in context with the scene, I also did not like his performance in Great Gatsby, is he losing his touch ? The academy does not seem to think so! The same goes with Jonah Hill, ridiculous over the top acting made to be funny but ended up lame.
The plot is nothing original, the rise and fall of a powerful man, have we not seen that so many times before ? Similar movies include Blow, Scarface and even the Spanish film starring Javier Bardem called Golden Balls. Overlong run time filled with lame rubbish over the top sex and drug scenes that seemed to take forever. I really cannot find anything good about this film, except a few laugh out loud scenes and a promising start that took a strong curve downwards as the movie progressed, 2 1/2 hours of torture.
Still the movie gets Oscar nominations including best picture and best actor, what a disgrace!! Shame on you Academy !!
Do not waste your money nor time on this.
Voodoo Possession (2014)
Amateur awful low budget film.. Avoidable
Well if you are looking for a cool Horror film, then look else where, as Voodoo Possession adds nothing new to the genre, and is not any way a scary or thrilling movie. First of, i hate how these movies try to make attractive posters that has nothing to do with the film, the poster you see here on IMDb is quite misleading and looks cool, which is not the case with movie itself. Also using big names to market a film is a cheap thing to do, here they managed to pull Danny Trejo to appear in brief scenes, which add nothing to the movie as a whole.
The Plot : it follows a young guy WHO travels to Hiati to investigate the disappearance of his Doc brother who was trying to use Voodoo to help heal mental illness, the older brother is helped by his girlfriend who is a journalist and gathers up a crew to accompany the older brother to help find out what happened to his younger Doc brother, once arriving in Hiati and into the mental hospital, creepy things start happening and the movie starts to dig in deep into Psychology and family dynamics which was more of boring drama than Horror.
The worst thing about the film is the acting, most are complete amateurs, very poor acting that one can tell that these are actors. Even Trejo seemed out of it. Some actors actually show their excitements in being in a movie, total lack of professionalism.
The other parts of the movie making was all amateur work, poor direction and camera work, awful soundtrack and score, poor audio editing. The movie screams low budget. And i don't have anything against low budget films, i had my share of watching some and they still managed to offer something good, but this one is truly awful.
I can understand the effort and the desire to make this movie from the people behind, but they lack big time in producing something that looks cool and professional. If id make movie like this, i wouldn't want people to pay to watch it, maybe just post it for free on the internet. In short, total amateur work here, low budget film that lacks in all areas with cheap marketing strategies, not scary at all, avoid it.
The Lords of Salem (2012)
Yes, the other reviewers were right..this one sucked
I have noticed that i usually disagree with some reviewers on here when rating or reviewing a movie, this time though, i must agree with most on here, that this movie sucked big time.
Rob Zombie tried to make a smart movie, but he really outsmarted himself, he was aiming for an Artistic mystery Horror film with this piece, but he could not manage to pull it off. the result is a mesh mash of scenes that lacked big time in pulling the viewers in and failed to create a thrilling and intriguing atmosphere.
the story has some similarities to Rosemary's baby, where it revolves around a Radio station DJ played by Zombies' wife, Shery, who receives a mysterious box with a music record sample, as she plays the record, the music seems to have a wicked effect on here, and things around start to change.
the movie started out pretty well at first, with a dark rhythm to it, introducing our main character and building on here character and her life, it kept my interest at first eager to see what will happen next, but then the movie took a strong curve downwards, repeated boring scenes kept showing up, the plot got a bit messy and confusing, and there was really no reason for any thrills or scares for that matter.
Shery's acting did not help as well, she is decent, but she could not carry this movie by herself. this movie requires a type A actress.
never mind the acting, the plot and pace were just slow and boring, it failed to pick up pace or interest, adding to that, the lack of artistic vision to Zombies' direction, random and what meant to be shocking scenes or clips ended up being more ridiculous.
Fans of Horror and fans of Rob Zombie will be disappointed just as i was. avoid this film 2 out of 10
The Purge (2013)
Tense and enjoyable experience with a brilliant idea, has it weaknesses but generally a very good movie
the idea of this movie is just brilliant, it takes the theory of " Risk Reduction ", which is the method used in legalizing things like for example Cannabis or those pushing to legalize prostitution to reduce harm associated with not legalizing them.
here the writers take Criminal acts in general and legalize them once a year for 12 hours, where all criminal acts are legalized, in the aim to reduce criminal behavior in general in society. a very interesting concept and one that could allow for several plot lines and several films could be made out of it, no wonder there is a sequel in the works " according to IMDb ".
Viewers seem to be split in terms of the idea and some think it is ridiculous, i do not see it that way, you never know with how policies are moving, something like this might happen. my only take, is that people tend to be impulsive, and waiting several months to a year to take things into their own hands is a long time, people cannot wait, i would say it would be more logical if they made the purge once every two months or even less.
what ever you think of it, the idea is just brilliant and very interesting.
now the script and characters seemed a bit extreme, and some characters seem to make very silly decisions, but nothing that would make this movie as awful as some on here are saying.
the boyfriend of the daughter wants to take advantage of the Purge to kill her father just because he does not want them to be together was a bit too extreme, and why would that be a solution ? would the daughter approve of that or even want to be with him after killing her father ?
a silly part for sure.
i continued watching because the idea was so intriguing and the director managed to create the right atmosphere to keep viewers interested despite the lack in certain areas in characters. and the movie did not let me down, was pretty good and kept getting more interesting as the plot moved forward and the family gets targeted by a group of Psychopaths.
there were of course several plot holes, for example, allowing for a purge, criminals might use that to take down a whole city down and so after the purge, chaos would persist. for example : destroying police property or cutting down communications.
another is people might kill outside the Purge hours and could still get away with it by lying about it that it was done during.
the movie also concentrated on the social aspects and took away all psychological aspects of human behavior, people are aggressive generally and tend to turn into animals in the absence of civilization, but not all people are that way. certain individuals just cannot kill because it is not part of their genes to do so. the film pictures all people as killers, i thought it was a bit of an over generalization.
for example, the neighbors are feeling envy and jealous of the family because they are making profit and showing it off, but is that enough to justify killing them ? maybe robbing their house, destroying their property, stealing, but Killing ? that was another example of extreme.
the movie does have many arguing points for discussion and you cannot find two people agreeing on it, but that is what is so good about it, it makes good for discussion and is interesting in many ways. the thrills, intrigue, and even some action and drama are all found here and gives and enjoyable experience.
do not listen to the negative reviews here, watch this original film and judge yourself. i certainly enjoyed it with its weaknesses. recommended and i rate it 8 out of 10
Curse of Chucky (2013)
Chucky goes downhill
I had very high expectations for this movie, especially being a fan of the original Child's Play movies. I was let down with this one for several reasons, first, it does not explain a lot of some of the events that happened in previous films, total disregard to the previous films.
the direction and script were awful, and i was surprised that it was made by the same people behind the earlier movies. total amateur work here, direction of the movie was below standards, cheap and boring camera movements.
the script and elements of thrills and intrigue were laughable, at a certain point, Chucky poisons a single plate of the dinner food of the family, and the director rotates the camera between each person as if to make us guess who was poisoned. very lame and old school stuff. the dialog was terrible as well.
special effects were also pretty lame, as some already mentioned here, the Chucky doll keeps changing in the way it looks, at points it had long hair other times a bit shorter. when the toy comes alive, it was lame as well. as a movie made in 2013, it is terrible.
acting was decent, the lead actress was pretty good.
plot elements were mesh mashed, they tried to add some background story to Charles Lee Ray the criminal who is trapped inside of Chucky, it was boring and uninteresting.
MINOR SPOILER ahead Chucky wants to transfer into a human body, this time a girl's body, which was odd, why would Charles want to move into a female body ? END SPOILER
A very very weak entry into the series, and probably one that would put it to rest permanently " maybe a good thing ? " , the Chucky films truly goes downhill with this one, one of the worst in the series and probably one of the worst films of 2013. I really i cannot fathom the positive reviews here.
The Last Stand (2013)
Among the top 20 best Action films
" I'll be Back ", and he is back with a big bang. Arnold returns to us with this excellent action movie, one that I enjoyed very much and reminded me of the good old 90s action flicks era.
Arnold plays a sheriff of a small town, where things are mostly quiet until a dangerous fugitive decides to pass by his town, and here is when Arnold's character pulls out all his guns to protect his town. A movie that has Arnold's mark and stamp all over it, very entertaining popcorn action, from car chases to supreme gun fights that looked like something from the Call of Duty games. A variety of cool weapons and machine guns are used with an atmospheric setting in the town that turned into a war zone, during the final scenes of the film.
another positive of the movie is the villain, they brought a well defined tough bad ass villain " unlike the weak villains in the last Die Hard movie, see Bruce ??!! you should learn from Arnold " who is furious and drives race cars.
acting was above average and i was surprised with Arnold's come back as he smoothed his way in with his performance here, along side some memorable performances from Forrest Whitkar and Luiz Gusman.
A solid and worthy entry into the action films category, that I consider one of the top 20 best action flicks out there. thank you Arnold and well done.
A Good Day to Die Hard (2013)
Good action, but not a Die Hard movie
Well, every single guy out there would find something good about the Die Hard films, i mean they are the ultimate action films out there, and im not any different, as i am a big fan of the franchise. So one would understand my excitement as i started watching this film, unfortunately, as many have already said on here, this one feels rushed and feels like it is missing something, lacks the spark of a Die Hard movie.
The movie is not the worst film ever made, in fact it had some good action scenes, and Willis was excellent as usual, but it just did not feel like a Die Hard film. For starters, i hated how they treated John Mcclain's character here, he was reduced to like a 2ndry character rather than being the main hero, another problem was the lack of chemistry between Willis and Jain Courtney who plays his son, it just did not feel real and i could not feel a real connection between them, and others have mentioned, Jack Mcclain appears like a spoiled brat and i just hated the character.
the other problem was the absence of a well defined and a tough villain that makes for a real challenge to Mcclain. the whole plot lacked the essence of a Die Hard movie, which usually involves an under siege situation, we had a building, an Air port, a City and a whole country under siege in the 4 previous films, here it seemed like a Spy action thriller similar to the Bourne films.
dialog was also below the standards of the franchise.
it still manages to entertain to some level, as i said it is not the worst movie out there, but it is the least of the Die Hard films, definitely the worst in the series, that does not feel like a Die Hard film which would make any Die Hard fan angry. i hope they make a better one and go back to the same formula of the first 4 films when they do the next one !!
The Great Gatsby (2013)
Shallow and empty
With big names like Leanordo De Caprio and Tobey Maguire, one must expect an amazing movie experience based on a good book, sadly, this is not the case. the film was suppose to be a Romantic Drama, however, it lacked in both Romance and Drama. for starters, it failed to capture the love between Jay and Daisy, not a lot of light shed on their previous relationship, i really could not care less if she went back to Jay or not, in fact, i felt that Jay Gatsby is a wife stealing creep. the pace of the film was another problem, it was super slow, and dragged at times giving a feeling of boredom. there were also some technical problems with direction of the film, the sound editing was poor and several clips has poor synchronized sound to picture especially when characters are speaking.
Leaonardo's acting was also below his usual in my opinion, i felt like he just didn't live the role, something was missing this time in his performance, every time he said " Old Sport " it felt fake and obvious acting !! Tobey Maguire was better, and Carey Mulligan was OK.
the biggest problem is that the story seemed shallow and empty, mainly because of the lack of the sense of Drama and the feel of the spark or the obsessional love of Jay toward Daisy, i think the film failed to capture that. add to that a slow boring pace and it just failed to ignite. they even had to spell the words on the screen in certain clips to make the viewers understand,i mean literally they had words typed on the screen like some sort of stylish direction, if i wanted to read i would have bought book !
some of the positives were the costumes and set designs were perfect for a 1920s period. the music was also energetic and fun.
So to summarize, a slow, boring shallow and empty film with nice set designs and costume designs, nice music, decent acting.
Brilliant performances but Not for everyone
I see a lot of positive reviewers here as well as a high score to this movie, i went in expecting something mind blowing. i was sadly disappointed to some degree. the movie is not entirely bad, it is watchable and i can see why some people just love it, but i really cannot see how it can be enjoyable to everyone. for starters, the story was not that original, we've seen lots of films that explore teenager-Adult relationships, and complex relationships " Hesher comes to mind ". it still managed to capture those relationships nicely, its just is not anything new, not to mention it felt like it was meant more toward a younger audience. I have to admit thought, the two kids acting were superb, very talented kids. the pace of the movie was also slow, like very slow that it needs some focus and patience to get into it. a good climax and ending. so to summarize, a brilliant performance from the actors, but a slowly paced unoriginal story that is not for everyone.
Berberian Sound Studio (2012)
Boring and does not go any where
Just as so many reviewers have already mentioned on here, this film lacks big time in plot and is very very slow. the film really looks good, they managed to create a very creepy atmosphere, the acting was also above average, so it had all the recipe for being a good film, but it ultimately failed mainly because the plot had no target, and the whole movie did not go any where, it was a repetitive mess of boring scenes over and over. You can feel that there is a good film in there somewhere, but the director and the writers failed to bring it out and Berberian Sound studio ended up a boring slow film that is better avoided.
the plot as many have mentioned revolves around a British sound engineer hired by an Italian director to work on editing a Horror Italian film, once arrived and started working on the studio, he starts to feel homesick and lost with the people around him. more than half the movie is in Italian without subtitles, something done deliberately im assuming to have the viewers feel as lost and confused as the main character, the only problem that it was over done and not executed properly, to the extent that we as viewers really felt lost and bored listening to the never ending Italian talk throughout the movie without understanding anything!!
the biggest problem with the film is that it repeats itself with the same sort of scenes over and over, usually of actors working in the studio and the British engineer working on the editing looking confused and depressed with an aggressive Italian sound director along side him, with no clear goal or target for the film and ending up so confusing, slow and boring. Avoid
Kill 'em All (2012)
Just fights !! nothing more
I was having high hopes for Kill'em all, but was left disappointed at the lack of creativity and enjoyment of this movie. it had what seemed to be an interesting plot, the idea behind it sounded cool and intriguing, but the delivery of that idea was below what is expected. the plot involves a group of highly professional assassins who got kidnapped and locked into a bunker together by a madman who forces them to play his game and fight each other to escape, for no clear reason, probably for his own sick entertainment. the fight scenes in the film were impressive to some extent, some well choreographed fight scenes that involve mainly martial arts, but they add nothing new to the hundreds of action films out there.
the lead actress had some impressive moves and a cool sexy outfit, very delicious to look at.
generally, the acting was just awful, very rigid and lame, those people seem like professional athletes, but just don't cut it as actors which really harmed this movie big time.
the script and dialog was just as awful if not the worst i've ever seen in a movie, just awful writing, that nothing smart comes out of those actors, lame and boring dialog that i just screamed please shut up once a conversation starts !
Add to that a lame villain that looks like an Asian version of Blofeld of the Bond films, minus the cat. a bold villain in a grey suit with some good fighting skills actually, he also have an army of psychopaths and ninjas that ultimately fight our heroes. " one might ask why don't he just use his ninjas to fight each other for entertainment ? "
the effects were also below average when explosions were involved, something that can be made with a simple editing program on your laptop.
so generally, a boring film for the most part, low grade B film with only some good fight scenes as its positive, otherwise, atrocious acting and an avoidable B film that adds nothing new or special out of all the hundreds of B action films out there.
