Dracula II: Ascension (2003)
Does not pickup exactly where Dracula 2000 left off.
I just finished watching Dracula II: Ascension and I thought the movie was pretty enjoyable. I enjoyed the story, but had two problems with this movie being consistent with the first. The first thing is the injection of Dracula's blood. In the first movie, Van Helsing uses Dracula's blood to keep him alive, but he never turns into a vampire (although some kind of link is passed to his daughter, Mary.) In Ascension, someone injects themselves with Dracula's blood and instantly turns into a vampire. The only thing I can think of is that Van Helsing took the blood from leeches (maybe they filter something from the blood which prevents Van Helsing from becoming a vampire??) The second problem I had was the ending of Dracula 2000 and Dracula's body being brought into the morgue. At the very end of Dracula 2000, Mary Van Helsing is writing in her diary that she is the keeper of Dracula's remains (and they show you the coffin locked away in the vault). She says something about being the keeper just in case his soul is still in the remains (or something along those lines). If she has his remains in the vault, how do the medical students receive the burnt body in the morgue? It could not have still been burning on the cross, if Mary had it in the vault.
Other than that, once the film got going, I enjoyed it and will definitely rent Dracula III when it comes out.
