Rafael vehicle playing a lot of songs, being professionally directed by Mario Camus
13 January 2019
The film deals with a young singer, Rafael, who tired in performing songs in small theatres and villages decides to go Madrid to seek fame and fortune. There meets a journalist, Maria Jose Alfonso, to to be interested in Rafael and she helps him, using her influence to launch his career. Rafael rises to fame, becoming a prominent pop star and performs a large and successful tour across Spain. While Rafael walking on a bridge, under heavy rain, he meets a gorgeous girl, then he falls in love for her : the newcomer Margaret Peters.

A loving melodrama with a peculiar love story in similar style to Love story by Arthur Hiller. Stars Rafael, he is a famous singer who was born in Linares 1942. His beginnings are similar to this film, as he goes Madrid where participates in broadcasting contests and after in Festival Benidorm where gets a big hit, from now on, he plays songs all around the world. Rafael was directed by notorious filmmakers as Vicente Escriba in El Golfo, Sin un adios, El angel and Javier Aguirre in Volver a nacer. His last film was in 1975 directed by Antonio Isasi Isasmendi, a documentary titled Rafael en Rafael. Here Rafael is well accompanied by a fine support cast, such as Carlos Otero as a wannabe painter of Bohemian life, Pepe Nieto as a composer representative, Monserrat Julio and Maria Jose Alfonso as a gifted reporter.

It packs a nice score with wonderful songs composed by Manuel Alejandro. And an atmospheric cinematography by Juan Julio Baena, though a perfect remasterization being really necessary, that 's why the film copy is worn-out. The motion picture was well directed by Mario Camus, though in slow moving. He directed Rafael in 3 films, Al ponerse el sol, Digan lo que digan y Cuando tu no estas.

Attractive and decent Western with a well plotted screenplay and firmly characterised
11 January 2019
This is the story of Ben Matthews , a gambling man who followed his Luck...his Love and a killer's trail from the brawling river ports to the golden glitter of Antoines . Ben Matthews gives up the flashy and roguish life of a riverboat gambler, hoping to settle down in Galena with his sweetheart , a luscious entertainer , dancer and singer called Zoe Fontaine (Colleen Miller who sings and dances some wonderful songs) . But Galena's leading citizen is killed on the ¨Montana Queen¨ Riverboat . He flees from the riverboat to clear himself a murder charge . Ben, on arrival, finds a lynch mob after his neck, and flees one again . Ben , then , is wanted : dead or alive , for the murder of Matt Comfort (Minor Watson) . Three years of wandering later, Zoe's letters stop coming , Ben goes back to find her and along the way he meets a rogue gunslinger (Arthur Kennedy) . Both of them join forces against a malicious villain , the Andre Saloon's proprietor called Andre Boucher (Peter van Eyck) . Lusty, Loving, Brawling days when Ben Matthews ruled the river with Rick, the thief to back his play...and a perfumed plaything named "Zoe" danced for love and a living! Down The Wide Missouri They Rolled...The Gamblers...The Gunfighters...The Gals In Satin And Silks! .They Risked Their Luck On A Turn Of A Card...Their Lives On The Draw Of A Gun!

An enjoyable but simple tale is almost rudimentary though full of clichés, as the monotonous script lines too often settle for crude routine ; however containing some surprising twists and turns . Suspense and tension builds over the time in which the rogue gambler Curtis is mercilessly pursued and the starring awaits to clear his name . It is a passable and agreeable Western , but little seen action film . The shootouts and chases are decently made , as the nasties shoot without remission and take on the sympathetic duo : Curtis and Kennedy . The highlights of the film are the facing off between Curtis and his enemies and the climatic showdown on the ending .Tony Curtis gives an acceptable acting -in his usual style- as Ben Matthews , a swindler who is wrongly accused for killing and he must find the real killer before the lynch mob finds him while attempting the hopeless task of clearing himself . His colleague and helper is nicely performed by Arthur Kennedy as a doublé-shaded and genial ruffian, delivering another of his competently done portrayals . Earl Fenton storyline from magnificent novella by Norman A Fox that gives many opportunities to score off one another .There stands out the great Tony Curtis , including his NY acccent . Curtis was hired by the powerful Universal Picture Studios, where Curtis was offered a seven-year contract. After changing his name to what he saw as an elegant, mysterious moniker--"Tony Curtis" (named after the novel Knight Adverse (1936) by Hervey Allen and a cousin of his named Janush Kertiz)--Curtis began making a name for himself by appearing in small, offbeat roles in small-budget productions. His first notable performance was a two-minute role in Criss cross (1949), with Burt Lancaster, in which he makes Lancaster jealous by dancing with Yvonne De Carlo. This offbeat role resulted in Curtis's being typecast as a heavy for the next few years, such as playing a gang member in City across the river (1949).Curtis continued to build up a show reel by accepting any paying job, acting in a number of bit-part roles for the next few years. It wasn't until late 1949 that he finally got the chance to demonstrate his acting flair, when he was cast in an important role in an action western, Sierra (1950). On the strength of his performance in that movie, Curtis was finally cast in a big-budget movie, Winchester 73 (1950). While he appears in that movie only very briefly, it was a chance for him to act alongside a Hollywood legend, James Stewart . As his career developed, Curtis wanted to act in movies that had social relevance, ones that would challenge audiences, so he began to appear in such movies as Espartacus (1960) and Fugitivos (1958). He was advised against appearing as the subordinate sidekick in Espartacus (1960), playing second fiddle to the equally famous Kirk Douglas. However, Curtis saw no problem with this because the two had recently acted together in dual leading roles in The Vikings (1958) . At the time Tony Curtis played a number of swashbucklers and adventure movies as Purple mask , The prince who was a thief , Son of Ali Baba . Tony Curtis is excellently accompanied by a top-notch support cast , such as : Peter van Eyck , William Demarest , William Gargan , Minor Watson and the usual baddie Robert J Wilke .

It displays an atmospheric and moving score by Herman Stein and Frank Skinner . Colorful cinematography in Universal style by director of photography Irving Glassberg . The motion picture was professionally directed by Rudolph Mate , keeping the flick at a lively pace .Polish-born (Cracovia) and passed away Beverly Hills (1964) Mate was an assistant cameraman for Alexander Korda and later worked throughout Europe with noted cameraman Karl Freund , director Carl Theodor Dreyer and Erich Pommer . Dreyer was so impressed with his work that they hired him as cinematographer on The Passion of Joan of Arc . Mate is considered to be one of the best cameramen of cinema story . Mate was soon working on some of Europe's most prestigious films, cementing his reputation as one of the continent's premier cinematographers. Hollywood came calling in 1935, and Mate shot films there for the next 12 years before turning to directing in 1947 . Unfortunately, while many of his directorial efforts were visually impressive ,especially his sci-fi ¨When the worlds collide¨ (1951) , his labour as cameraman was excellent . He realized a variety films of all kind of genres as Adventures : ¨The Black Shield of Falworth¨ , ¨Seven Seas to Calais¨ , Western about themes of card players on riverboat as ¨The Mississipi gambler¨(1963) , ¨The rawhide years¨(1956) , about family conflict as ¨Thre violent people¨and about conflicts between Indians and cavalry as ¨In the siege at Red River¨(1954) and Noir films : ¨Union Station¨ , ¨Second chance¨ . He also directed Epic films as ¨The Barbarians¨ and ¨The 300 Spartans¨ . The films themselves were for the most part undistinguished, with his best work probably being the film-noir classic ¨DOA¨ (1950). ting : Passable , decente and acceptable , almost notable film 6,5/10 . Well worth watching .

Joyous and fun romp dealing with a semi-documentary version of life on the road with the Fab Four
10 January 2019
Here The Beatles in Their First Full Length, Hilarious Action-Packed Film . This is a very entertaining and funny romp with a sharp and ironic storyline by Owen and nice direction by Richard Lester , shooting without speed limit . A day and a half in the life of the Fab Four (Paul McCartney , Ringo Starr , George Harrison and John Lennon offering a few welcome moments of his acerbic , dry wit) leading up to a studio , in flight from the fanatic fans , managers (Norman Rossington) , and televised concert gig . It starts with the known rock and roll band travelling from their home town of Liverpool to London to perform in a television broadcast . While Paul's Grandpa (Wilfred Brambell) serving as a linking device to connect scenes of the Beatles. Ringo however is arrested and still isn't in the studio half an hour before air time. Soaring in their first, full-length, hilarious, action-packed film! 6 exciting new songs! Their first full length hilarious, action-packed film. The greatest rock & roll comedy adventure .

The Fab Four's first movie is a joyous musical comedy through an ordinary ¨Day in the Life¨ of the Beatles, being their distinguished debut feature with an agreeable line in witty lunacy . Filmed in a pseudo-documentary style with great fair-play and noted as the first movie containing video-clips . Here the Beatles make like Max Sennett with a touch of Marx Brothers , including a paper-thin screenplay about difficulties with their manager and Paul's grandpa on the loose and delivering antics , craziness and mayhem . The boys seem to be constantly on the run and showing a lot of example of wry sense of humor , while escaping from their crazed fans and from their manager, who is constantly trying to rein them in. All 4 flopheads show a deft touch with throwaway joke here and there . The surrealist frames , slastick images and hilarious scenes are legion . The charming best scenes are a chaotic press conference , and a wild as well as wacky fling as the Beatles escape from it all for a few minutes in a field with likeable scenes filmed in relaxed music video style . The popular and wonderful group performs a dozen or so songs. And adding Wilfrid Brambell as Paul's unconventional grandfather who is available for additional comical relief, giving a very sympathetic acting along with Ringo Starr , as the band must rescue them from various misfortunes and misadventures .

The motion picture was originally directed by Richard Lester providing attractive images in its own right , being filmed in his peculiar style coupled with typical surrealist comic touches , being well accompanied by a brilliant cinematography in black and white by Gilbert Taylor . Richard Lester's gimmicky camera-trickery , fast and slow-motion , jump-cuts and it has dated badly . At the beginning Lester directed various Beatles vehicles as ¨How I won the war¨, ¨Help¨ and subsequently made known comedies : ¨The knack¨ ¨A funny thing happened on the way to the room¨, ¨The Ritz¨, ¨The mouse on the moon¨, a satire : ¨The bed sitting room¨ , Adventures : ¨Royal Flash¨ , ¨Robin and Mariam¨, Western : ¨Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid : the early days¨, and drama : ¨Petulia¨ , ¨Cuba¨ . He got a big success with ¨The Three Musketeers¨ (1973), which he shot simultaneously with ¨The Four musketeers¨ (1974) for producer Ilya Salkind , resurrected his career . When the Salkinds (Ilya and his father Alexander Salkind) were in the midst of filming ¨Superman¨ (1978) simultaneously with its sequel, Lester was hired as a supervising producer, then took over the filming of the sequel, ¨Superman II¨ (1980), when original director Richard Donner was fired . The sequel was a financial and critical success , and he was hired to direct the far-less successful ¨Superman III¨ (1983). At the end of the 1980s, Lester returned to the storyline that had revitalized his career back in the early 1970s, filming a second sequel to "The Three Musketeers" titled : ¨The return of the musketeers¨ . However, after his close friend, actor Roy Kinnear died during the shooting , Lester seemed to lose heart with the movie-making business , he has not directed another film.

Entertaining but violent Tarzan/Gordon Scott movie , in which stands out Anthony Quayle as a ruthless villain
9 January 2019
Colorful and entertaining a Tarzan/Scott movie , though dubiously faithful to Edgar Rice Borroughs story . Tarzan is out to capture a quintet (Niall MacGinnis , Sean Connery , Scilla Gabel ,Sean Connery , Al Mulock ) of British diamond hunters in Africa led by Slade (Anthony Quayle) , who murdered a pair of natives while stealing supplies to get dynamite for use in a diamond mine. In doing so they nearly destroy the hospital settlement, so and Tarzan (Gordon Scott) goes after them to their mine . Meanwhile , an airplane en route to Kenia has an accident in the jungle . The private plane is piloted by Angie (Sara Shane) , an avid flyer whose hobby is aviation .Tarzan encounters the downed crashed plane , rescues the gorgeous girl who crashes her small airplane and leads her throughout the lush jungle . Along the way Tarzan develops amorous feelings for Angie and they start to Kiss themselves . As for Slade and his group, greed , betrayal , envy and jealousy ,take the motley bunch , and they are taking down one by one , leaving only a few of them for Tarzan to battle in the finish . Then , Tarzan is nearly killed in the jungle in a dynamite blast by Slade and things go wrong . Adventure's Mightiest Hero Lives His Mightiest Adventure!

This ¨Tarzan's lastest adventure ¨contains noisy action , sensational adventures , many angry natives , nasty white hunters , hungry Crocs and wonderful outdoors , though mostly shot in Africa , studios and excessive use stock footage . Well starred by Gordon Scott , here Tarzan/Scott rescues a flyer and takes on five cutthroat diamond hunters . Tarzan on his hunt upriver is accompanied by a beautiful American pilot well played by Sara Shane , who has crash landed nearby , and Tarzan falls for her . Gordon Scott brings wit , bravery and style to the classic character . Afer of a job as a lifeguard at the Las Vegas Sahara Hotel led him to leave his delivery job. Soon thereafter, a Hollywood talent scout took note of him and signed him to a contract with Sol Lesser, producer of the Tarzan movies. His handsome features, muscular physique, and imposing height made him an excellent choice to replace Lex Barker as Tarzan, and he won out over 200 candidates for the role. It was Lesser who changed his name from Werschkul to Scott. Scott's Tarzan films ranged from rather cheap re-edited television pilots to larger scale epics. Two of them, Tarzan's lastest adventure (1959) and Tarzan the magnificent (1960) are generally considered to be among the very best Tarzan films ever made. Scott's and his writers' particular gifts to the series included returning Tarzan to his former status as a literate, well-spoken character. Following his departure from the Tarzan films, he moved to Italy and became a popular star of what were known as "sword and sandal" epics, featuring handsome body-builders as various characters from Greek and Roman myth. Scott was a friend of Hercules star Steve Reeves, and collaborated with him as Remus to Reeves's Romulus in Rómulo y Remo (1961). Scott also played such mythic heroes as Goliath, Zorro, and Buffalo Bill in various low-budget productions during the mid-1960s . Gordon starred 5 Tarzan movies : ¨Tarzan's fights for life¨ by H. Bruce Humberstone , ¨Tarzan and the trappers¨ by Sandy Howard and Charles Haas , ¨Tarzan's greatest adventure¨ produced by Sy Weintraub , directed by John Guillermin , "Tarzan and the Lost Safari" and ¨Tarzan the magnificent¨ by Robert Day . Although Gordon Scott also played all kinds of genres as Spaghetti : ¨Tramplers¨, Euro-spy : ¨Death ray¨ , Pirate movie : ¨Marauder¨ , and especially Peplum : ¨Hércules and the princess of Troy¨, ¨Coriolanus¨, ¨Conquest of Mycene¨, ¨Gladiator of Rome¨, ¨Hero of Rome¨, ¨Samson and the 7 miracles of the world¨. His final film appearance, apparently, was in "The Tramplers," filmed in 1966, released in the U. S. in 1968. Scott was married apparently three times, including once to his Tarzan co-star, actress Vera Miles, from 1954 to 1959.

Support cast is pretty good , such as the Italian Scilla Gabel who starred various Peplum and the ordinary secondaries as Niall MacGinnis , Al Mulock who committed suicide in Spain while shooting ¨Once upon a time in the West¨; furthermore , a young newcomer : Sean Connery . And special mention for the nasty Anthony Quayle , really stealing the show , and giving a nice interpretation . And of course , the likable Chimpanzee Cheeta, though appears only during a few lines , delivering some brief humorous moments with his antics , frolics and mayhem . As usual , sets and production design are visually appealing , though there are the obvious uses of stock footage and shot on location in Kikuyu, Kenya . Including a brilliant and shimmering cinematography by Edward Scaife . And atmospheric as well as evocative soundtrack by Douglas Hamley .This was the first film for producer Sy Weintraub , he would make Tarzan adventures, including the popular television series, throughout the 1960s. The motion picture was well produced by Sy Weintraub and decently directed by John Guillermin . Being professionally directed by John Guillermin , habitual of disaster films ( Skyjacked , King Kong , Kong lives ) , adventures ( Tarzan in India , Tarzan's greatest adventure , Sheena ) , Wartime ( Bridge of Remangen , Guns at Batasi , I was Monty's double ) and intrigue ( Death on the Nile , Shaft in Africa , The whole truth ) . John Guillermin usually worked with George Peppard in various films ( such as P.J , House of cards and Blue Max) and Peter Sellers (Never let go , Walz of the Toreadors) .Rating : Good and entertaining , it's a fairly watchable and breathtaking film , in which the splendid casting stands out and results to be a good and original treatment of Tarzan series .The picture will appeal to adventure buffs and Gordon Scott fans

Classic and enjoyable John Ford film with great cast giving terrific performance
8 January 2019
Vintage and memorable film and one of Ford and Maureen O'Hara's best. This tearjerker tale of a Welsh's valley's turn of the century family from a coal mining region . It is told in flashback by a voice-in-off carried out by Huw Morgan (Roddy McDowall) who has decided to leave the valley forever . As he remembers back to his growing up period, when the dust from the coal mines, his family , mirths and distresses . Huw (played by a 13-year-old Roddy McDowall) is the youngest in a family composed by parents (Donald Crisp , Sara Allgood) and 6 brothers (John Loder, Patrick Knowles, among others) and one sister (Maureen O'Hara) who falls in love with the new preacher, Mr. Gruffydd (Walter Pidgeon) , who had a slightly different view of his relationship with her, and which would end up destroying his life in the valley. Rich is their humor! Deep are their passions! Reckless are their lives! Mighty is their story! Millions Have Read This Great Novel... Millions more will see an even greater picture!

Stunning and sensitive tale about tribulations and trial of a Welsh mining family from the youthful perspective of the youngest child , marvelously played bt the agreeable prodigy child Roddy MacDowall who had subsequently a long career as a great secondary actor . This dramatic film contains interesting characters , full of good feeling and tragic moments . This classic , sturdy picture ranks as one of the most sentimental of John Ford's work . It contains Ford's usual themes as familiar feeling , religion , friendship , sacrifice , sense of comradeship among people and ample shots on the mining village .It is a hight-spirited tale , being one of Ford's finest movies with a marvelous fresh-air feeling . Thought-provoking , enjoyable screenplay portraying in depth characters and brooding events with interesting issues running beneath script surface .In the forties , Ford won-back-to-back Best Director Oscars for two more classics he made at Fox, the screen adaptations of future Nobel laureate John Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic Grapes of the wrath (1940) in 1941, and of Richard Llewellyn's memoir of his youth in the coal-mining region of Wales, this How Green was my valley (1941) . Adequate production design that achieved a deserved Oscar , buit by Richard Day and Nathan Juran , 160 builders took six months to construct Richard Day's elaborate set design. The studio brought in blocks of coal weighing over a ton apiece for the construction of the mines. To create the impression that coal slag covered the landscape in the opening and closing scenes, John Ford had the hillside painted black. This magnificent film featuring a magnificent performance by the whole casting , including a top-notch support cast such as Anna Lee , John Loder , Sara Allgood ,Barry FitzGerald , Rhys Williams ,Frederick Worlock , Ann Todd , Richard Fraser and Arthur Shields .There is another rendition about this classic story made in 1975 by Ronald Wilson (6 episodes, 1975-1976) with Stanley Baker , Siân Phillips , Mike Gwilym , Gareth Thomas .

Beautifully cinematographed by Arthur Miller in black and while , plenty of lights and shades . Evocative and sensitive musical score by Alfred Newman . The picture was magnificently directed by John Ford . John Ford often referred to this film as his favorite. In the 1940s, Ford won-back-to-back Best Director Oscars for two more classics he made at Fox, the screen adaptations of future Nobel laureate John Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic The grapes of the wrath (1940) in 1941, and of Richard Llewellyn's memoir of his youth in the coal-mining region of Wales, ¡Qué verde era mi valle! (1941) . the mid-1940s, after working in many genres, Ford began to focus on Westerns again, beginning with My Darling Clementine (1946), one of the classics of the genre. Many of his Westerns featured John Wayne, whom he had first worked with on Stagecoach (1939) and who became a superstar in Howard Hawks' classic oater Río Rojo (1948). Wayne appeared in Fort Apache (1948), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), and Río Grande (1950), the famous "Cavalry Trilogy." Along with "My Darling Clementine," Ford was plumbing the nature of American myth-making, and the creation of history as an historical narrative, that is, the re-creation of history John Ford created so many classic Westerns that he began to be associated with the genre. It's interesting to note that from 1950 through 1959, he made only one Western, the classic The searchers (1956), one of the greatest examples of the genre. Starting with Horse soldiers (1959) which he made for the Mirisch Co. at the end of the decade, six of his last eight completed movies were Westerns, including his last masterpiece, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." rating : Above average , 8 .

Ben-Hur (2016)
6/10
Modern and spectacular version about the known hero being sent into slavery , set in the Roman empire at the time of Christ .
8 January 2019
Nice rendition about Ben Hur , the Jew noble being sent into slavery by a Roman friend , then he regains his freedom and comes back for revenge ; including intense drama, marvelously staged battle ships and overwhelming chariot races . In A.D. 26-Jerusalem, the wealthy merchant and son of a Jewish family, Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston , John Huston's son) , enjoys a comfortable life along with his adopted brother Messala (Tony Kebbell) . However, Messala flees to Rome and it will lead to an eventual separation .Now a Roman tribune, Messala goes back ; childhood friends and brothers, Judah Ben-Hur and Messala meet once again but things go wrong . Nowadays , as experienced adults , this time Messala is a Roman officer , a tough conqueror against the Jews and Judah as a rich noble , though conquered , Israelite . An unexpected reunion takes place after many years with his childhood best friend , but Ben Hur soon finds, however, that his friend has changed and has become an arrogant conqueror, full of the grandeur of Rome , and it leads to fateful consequences , as Judah refuses to divulge the names of Jews who oppose Roman rule, and Messala decides to make an example of him , banishing Judah to a life of slavery and imprisonment at a galley ship. When in Jerusalem happens a Roman parade , where is wounded the ruthless governor Pontius Pilate (Pilou Asbæk ) Judah to be sent off as a galley slave , his ownership confiscated and his mother (Ayelet Zurer) and sister Tirzah (Sofia Black-D'Elia) imprisoned at an impregnable jail . But the brave Ben Hur goes on his determination to stay alive when his galleon is attacked by a Greek ship , and then , to be shipwrecked , as he becomes a castaway and escapes . Later on , Judah goes backs his homeland . Unable to locate his mummy and sister, and believing them dead , he can think of nothing else than vendetta against Messala . Judah'll finally find peace in this revolutionary and enlightened new doctrine of kindness : Christianity .

Last movie of the acclaimed novel , being lavishly produced , stars Jack Huston and Tony Kebbell as Messala . This breathtaking film concerns about a merciless vengeance , not about forgiveness, only an unforeseen and gracious act of pardon will set free the once noble prince, who is now bent on revenge, as the incendiary teachings of the Nazarene Jesus rapidly gain ground. Although I think that the the famous novel written by Lewis Wallace is mainly about forgiveness . Furthermore , it deals with a extreme rivalry between the Roman Empire and Israel , in Rome the most important values were pride, rivalry, power, strength, the dictatorship of power , while in Israel rules the religion , rebelliousness , and protests against the Roman invader . Main cast is pretty good . Jack Huston is fine in the known role as wealthy Palestinan battling the Roman Empire who finally meets his rival in a justly famous chariot race and while rescuing his suffering family. And decent acting by Tony Kebbell as the nasty Messala who sends Judah to the galleys and throws his mother and sister into prison. Support cast is frankly well , such as : Ayelet Zuret , Sofia Black , Pilou Asbæk , James Cosmo , and mention special for Morgan Freeman who does some narrating in the beginning and end of the film. The chariot race required thousands of extras on sets constructed on lots of acres of lands . The MGM production costs were massive millions of dollars , as a lot of chariots were built , with half being used for practice . The race took various weeks to film ; both , director and producer insisted that the chariot circus be built for actual, and be made with as little computer graphics imagery as possible. They felt it was absolutely necessary, to make the chariot race look and feel realistic . The known chariot scene was shot at what is now the Cinecittà Studios, Cinecittà, Rome, Lazio, and Matera, Basilicata, Gravina di Puglia, Bari, Apulia, Italy and other scenes in Painted Canyons, Mecca Hills, California, USA . Attractive images , majestic set design , glamorous photography in brilliant color by Oliver Wood , and evocative as well as rousing musical score by Marco Beltrani , all of them combine to cast a spellbinding movie , though inferior than other versions . The motion picture was professionally made by Director Timur Bekmambetov , though with no originality , being a real flop at the box office .

Other retellings based on this vintage novel written by Lewis Wallace are the followings : Silent version by Fred Niblo with Ramon Novarro , Francis X Bushman , that still stands as the all-time silent classic ; it packs impressive scenes that still look nice , in spite of age and in 1931 , a shortened version was released .The classic version ¨Ben-Hur¨ won a record 11 Oscars , this recounting of the story is 87 minutes longer than the 2016 version , directed by William Wyler with Charlton Heston , Stephen Boyd , Haya Harareet , Jack Hawkins , Sam Jaffe , Finlay Currie , Martha Scott , Cathy O'Donnell , in which stuntman Cliff Lyons worked a Stuntman/chariot driver in both versions : 1925 and 1959 ; it ranked as the most expensive movie of its time and took years to end ; it is one of the greatest films in the genre "Epic". Ben-Hur still stands as the all-time silent classic . And cartoon version (2003) by Bill Kowalchuck with prologue by Charlton Heston and ¨Ben-Hur¨ TV series by Steven Shrill with Joseph Morgan , Stephen Campbell Moore , Kristen Krouk , Simon Andreu and Lucia Jimenez

La española inglesa (2015 TV Movie)
7/10
Pretty good TV movie about a troubled romance during the thunderous period of Elizabeth I kingdom
7 January 2019
Based on one of the most essential novels written by Miguel de Cervantes, this story shows the life of one young Spanish girl by the name of Isabel . La Española Inglesa deals with the kidnap of an attractive girl , Isabela, during a violent attack on the Southern city of Cádiz (1596) , carried out by the English commanded by Count of Essex and , subsequently , the cruel inprisonment of Ricaredo by the Turks . The novella and the film is a story about geographic repatriation , religion and a sensitive love story . The story begins with an act of rebelliousness proceeded by Clotaldo (José Maria Blanco) , father de Ricaredo (Carles Francino) , who takes the girl Isabel to London . By the time Isabella is a gorgeous 7-years-old little girl . Clotaldo y and his family : wife Catalina (Yolanda Arestegui) and son Ricardo (Carles Francino) are secret Catholic people who live at a Protestant England . Later on, Isabel (Macarena Garcia) would live in London with the family that kidnapped her . Isabel is considered a daugher-alike , becoming into a really wonderful and polite young . Isabel learns the English customs , but she often uses the Spanish habits ; while she starts to fall in love with their son Richard. Then , when the proud Queen Elizabeth I (Lola Herrera) to be aware about Isabel, she meets face to face the family .

This is a good costume-designing , a Spanish historic-drama and Macarena García as Isabel , and Carles Francino as Ricardo are well cast in the title roles . They are splendidly recreated turmoil , loves , and fight power of its time between the Muslim Turks and the christendom , including a bloody battle at the beginning , during The Capture of Cadiz, Spain (1596). As well as the troublesome days of the British and Spanish Empire and machinations surrounding , but it especially concerns a twisted and tumultuous love story .This costumer/melodrama recreates faithfully the historical facts , as several centuries separate us from the events are to narrate , it is really important to highlight the huge significance that these Brit/Spaniard Kingdoms had back then , as the shadows still hide from the public those great historic moments , and the significance of such deeds . The picture contributes to historical , artistic and cultural memory of an era , with a look back to the past , offering us an engaging adaptation based on this fundamental novel . It's magnificent and correctly captured by marvelous sets , splendid production design and glamorous gowns . This elaborate costumer drama packs outstanding performances from a great casting . Based on the homonymous novel by Miguel de Cervantes, the film is finely narrated by a role -Cervantes himself - who tells the tale of Isabel and Ricaredo. Miguel de Cervantes published the original "La española inglesa" as one of the twelve novels compiled as a series called "Exemplary novels". They were written between 1590 and 1612 and later printed in 1613 by Juan de la Cuesta in Madrid . Main cast is frankly fine , Macarena Garcia is good as the charming young whose life changes completely when she's somehow kidnapped by the English ; she is appropriately accompanied by Carles Francine as the brave and beloved Ricardo . Support cast is pretty good , such as Lola Herrera as an upright Queen of England Elizabeth I , Ana Wagener as Major Steward ,Yolanda Arestegui , Jose Maria Blanco , Bernabé Fernández and Michel Rellán as Cervantes himself , though his character doesn't appear in the novella .

La española inglesa was well directed Marco Castillo, with a nice screenplay by Pilar Nadal, Felipe Mellizo y Guillermo Cisneros. This interesting historical drama whose title non-official translation: "The English Spaniard/Spanish woman" contains a brilliant cinematography that adds color to the atmosphere by Gonzalo Flórez who formerly photographed notorious series. And an atmospheric and evocative musical score by Daniel Sánchez de la Hera , though composed by synthesizer . The motion picture was elegant and brilliantly directed by Marco A. Castillo . He is a professional artisan who has directed various episodes from famous TV series , such as : El Internado , Suárez y Mariscal, caso cerrado , Cafeteria Manhattan , El ministerio del tiempo , Hospital Valle Norte , SMS and Aguila Roja . Rating . 7/10 . Better than average

Enticing and amusing comedy with silly events , ridiculous incidents and disconcerting situations
5 January 2019
Amusing , bawdy but average comedy with hilarious incidents , entertainment , mayhem and fun. It deals with a little town called Villaviciosa de Al Lado where takes place a big mess when at the brothel run by Carmen Machi happens a winning lottery ticket . Villaviciosa is a town almost ruined when its known Spa goes wrong , as City Hall's debts threaten to close it . Then a lot of problems in progress. However , a surprising letdown ensues when they discover the winner ticket belongs to a serial number sold in the brothel and here is going to happen something very mess.

This movie is fun to see , because of the bewildering and funny situations that protagonists suffer provoke a lot of laughs and amusement. This is a bemusing picture that packs comical sketches , tongue-in-cheek , grotesque incidents , but above all, it especially contains humor and Irony, at the same time giving a sour criticism about hipocrisy , corruption and the extreme gossiping . The plot is plain , simple and silly , as a group of rogue inhabitants want to claim the winner prize and save the ruined town without suffering the angry and wrath their respective wives and they hatch a plot , to rob the prized money from the brothel .Sitting in a rare middle ground between the stylishly enjoyable and the gross bawdness. As the flick has profanities, bad taste , sex language , and lousy , lascivious scenes .Being a choral film , in Luis García Berlanga style , here shows up a great number of fine Spanish actors , in which standing out Carmen Machi as the good woman who attempts to reconcile her troublesome life as well as restore the memory of he deceased daddy. She is well accompanied by a nice plethora of players as Carlos Santos ,Macarena García , Belen Cuesta , Carmen Ruiz , Arturo Valls and the veteran Julieta Serrano . And brief appearance from Miguel Rellan and Fernando Valverde .

The motion picture was professional but regularly directed by Nacho G Velilla. He is a fine craftsman , expert on comedies and Sitcom , a notorious producer , filmmaker and writer, known for his TV series as 7 Vidas , Aida , Gominolas , and he has directed some movies , many of them starred by his fetish actor Javier Camara , such as Fuera de carta , To hell with the ugly , No manches a Frída , and his two biggest boxoffice hits : Perdiendo el norte and Villaviciosa de al lado.

Above average delicate romantic comedy with great cast giving top-drawer acting and magnificently directed by Lubitsch
4 January 2019
Splendid romantic comedy and referenced as an over the top classic . It is set in a small Budapest shop called "Matuschek's" (proprietor Frank Morgan) , it is the known and gossip-ridden gift shop around the corner. Among the clerks are Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) , Klara (Margaret Sullavan) , and others (Joseph Schildkraut , Sara Haden , Felix Bressart , Inez Courtney) , all of them form the shop staff at logger-heads in Matuschek's emporium . Alfred is a sympathetic young man who's in love with a woman he has never met and whose name he doesn't even know . When Klara comes to work as a clerk in the shop, the sparks begin to fly : she and Alfred don't get along. Of course, what neither knows is that Klara is the woman Alfred has been romancing via a lonely hearts club . Alfred slowly realises that he has been carrying on an anonymous romance by letter .

Unforgettable characters, enjoyable dialogue , lots of laughs, one of the best films of the cinema history and of one the best Lubitsch, a real cinema classy . A charming and attractive portrayal of ordinary people in ordinary situations . Adapted from the Nikolaus Laszlo's play : Parfumerie , later made into a musical show titled ¨In the Good Old Summertime¨ , and , on Broadway ¨She loves me¨. James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan give top-notch interpretations as a young duo who are feuding clerks and unknownly fall in love through the mail . Teaming Stewart , Sullavan and Frank Morgan just as in ¨Frank Borzage's The mortal storm¨ shot the same year , this also concerns a troublesome love story in Central Europe , though here the threat is not Nazism but the intereference of others and pride . It is a wonderfully delicate comedy , finally very stirring and exciting ; including the twisted as well as troubled intrigues among the staff also carrying narrative weight and especially dealing with a peculiar "romance" that has been conducted through a post office box . Phenomenal secondary cast , such as : Joseph Schildkraut , Sara Haden , Felix Bressart , William Tracy and the honest , agreeable proprietor , Frank Morgan , being especially affecting and moving .

This low-key motion picture was stunningly directed by Ernest Lubitsch , and all scenes were reportedly shot in sequence ; being throughly different from his classic movie ¨To Be or not to Be¨, but just as entertaining and exhilarating . It is one of the few movies truly justifying Lubitsch's reputation for his famous ¨Touch¨. It was later turned into a musical comedy as In the Good Old Summertime . Lubitsch's breakthrough film came in 1918 with "The Eyes of the Mummy", a tragedy starring future Hollywood star Pola Negri. Also that year he made Carmen (1918), again with Negri, a film that was commercially successful on the international level. His work already showed his genius for catching the eye as well as the ear in not only comedy but historical drama. The year 1919 found Lubitsch directing seven films, the two standouts being his lavish Madame DuBarry (1919) with two of his favorite actors--Negri (yet again) and Emil Jannings. His other standout was the witty parody of the American upper crust, "The Oyster Princess" 1919 . This film was a perfect example of what became known as the Lubitsch style, or the "Lubitsch Touch", as it became known--sophisticated humor combined with inspired staging that economically presented a visual synopsis of storyline, scenes and characters. Lubitsch directed a lot of comedies and vintage movies , such as : ¨Heaven can wait¨, ¨That uncertain feeling¨, ¨Ninotchka¨, ¨Bluebeard's eight wife¨, ¨Angel¨, ¨The merry widow¨, ¨The Student Prince¨, ¨So this is Paris¨, ¨Lady Windermere's fan¨, ¨The marriage circle¨, ¨One Arabian night¨, ¨Passion¨, ¨Gypsy blood¨, among others . Rating : 8/10 . Better than average .

Average adventure Paella western with thrills, action, riding pursuits and crossfire
3 January 2019
A Western adventure taking place in 19th California starred by El Coyote written by Jose Mallorqui and heavily indebted to the likes of Zorro by Johnson McCulley and his contemporaries. 1848 California, the USA invading army has defeated the Mexican forces and California takes part of the United States. But there happens the mistreating carried out by the encroaching military against the ranchers, humble villagers, countrymen and peasants , including the greedy prospectors when encounter the valuable gold nuggets. And in the end his annoyance leads him to don a mask to take vendetta against the villains.

This is an adventure western postboiler with noisy action, go riding chases , shootouts .Being last cinematic appearance of this fictitious, sucessful character written by Jose Mallorqui that was a big hit in Spain and Latinoamerica . But this mediocre tale particularly fails to ignite enough entertainment and excitement in the part of the spectator. As it is utterly predictable in every aspect as well as the action, and the story nothing special. The film is formed by 2 parts titled : Cesar Echague and El Tribunal de Coyote . Javier Coronado as El coyote gives a passable acting, being well accompanied by a frankly fine support cast, such as Nigel Davenport, Alberto Mendoza, Manuel Alexandre, Ramon Langa, Ray Lovelock, Chiara Caselli, Isabel Serrano, Manuel Zarzo, Txema Blasco and many others. It packs a colorful and evocative cinematography by Jaume Peracaula. And an atmospheric as well as thrilling musical score by Sebastian Marine. The motion picture was professional but regularly director by the veteran and prestigious filmmaker Mario Camus, failing at the Spanish boxoffice.

Based on a novel by popular writerJose Mallorqui, whose novels have been adapted several times, such as : El Coyote 1954 by Joaquin Romero Marchent with Abel Salazar, Gloria Marin, Manuel Monroy, followed by a sequel La Justicia del Coyote 1954 by Marchent himself and same actors. And The sign of the Coyote 1963 also titled El Vengador de California by Mario Caiano with Fernando Casanova, Mario Feliciani, Maria Luz Galicia and Fernando Sancho. Sentimental Spanish classy about a sympathetic family formed by two understanding parents and their fifteen children
31 December 2018
It deals with a fine rigger, working in full-time, called Carlos Alonso : Alberto Closas, his wife Mercedes, Amparo Soler Leal, and their fifteen children : Pedro Mari Sanchez, Maria Jose Alfonso... of diverse ages living in Madrid. All of them live with the likeable grandfather giving a generous support, the great Jose Isbert, and usual home appearance by Juan, the good godfather: Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez. Subsequently, there takes place various incidents, communion, holidays on Tarragona, first romances and a sad event : missing Chencho that causes a deep gap and an extreme searching for streets, Plaza Mayor, and broadcasting by radio and TV, too. Through numerous events we watch the agreeable life of this enjoyable and attractive family. At the end it takes place the surprising arrival a new set : a television.

There are several stories all around, including first communion two children, Elementary school, High school and other stories, as we are told of everyday family life, such as holidays on Coast Dorada , first loving, loss Chencho and his subsequent recovery . Alberto Closas gives a nice acting as the hard-working moonlighting rigger who lives for his extense family. He is really enamored his wife Mercedes well played by Amparo Soler Leal. Along with a lot of children performed by charming newcomers. Support cast is frankly excellent, plenty of all Spanish secondary actors as Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez, Laly Soldevilla, Agustin Gonzalez, Jose Maria Prada, Maria Jose Alfonso, Jose Sepulveda, Xan Das Bolas, Francisco Valladares, Jesus Guzman, Angel Alvarez, and, of course, Jose Isbert.

It contains a diverting screenplay from notorious writers as Rafael J Salvia, Pedro Maso and Antonio Vich. And atmospheric musical score by Adolfo Waitzman. As well as an evocative cinematography in black and white by Juan Marine. The motion picture was professionally directed by Fernando Palacios, being well and solidly paced. He was a good filmmaker who directed some acceptable comedies as El dia de enamorados, Juanito, Tres de la Cruz Roja, Vuelve San Valentin, Marisol rumbo a Rio, Operacion embajada, Buscame esa chica, La familia y uno mas and Whisky y Vodka.

It is followed by La familia y uno mas or The family plus one 1965 in which the life of the disproportionated family has undergone various happenings and distresses, as the birth a new baby, the sixteenth, coinciding the death of the mummy, Amparo Soler Leal, who left behind an irreparable sadness, as well as the grandfather has also dead. And, subsequently, an inferior third installment, the really moralist : La familia bien gracias 1979 directed by the former producer , and screenwriter Pedro Maso , with script by prestigious Rafael Azcona.

Moving and exciting Sci-Fi set in a dystopian society in which a brave teenager takes on lots of dangers and a terrible truth
30 December 2018
Thrilling first installment of a successful trilogy, dealing with a stirring dystopian Sci-Fi in which a beautiful and intelligent adolescent becomes involved into lots of dangers, risks, emotion and violence. As Tris, Shailene Woodley, will be forced to make complex choices about sacrifice, loyaly, courage, love redemption and allegiance. This is a Science Fiction and drama film based on Veronica Roth novel. Sixteen-year-old Tris Prior : Shailene Woodley, lives in a destroyed city of Chicago, in a difficult society divided into factions and, nowadays, she searches answers on the ruins of the town. As each faction represents a diverse way of handling things. Candor are the honest. Erudite are the intelligent, in which her brother, Ansel Elgort, belongs. Abnegation the selfless, in which her parents : Ashley Judd, Tony Goldwyn belong. Amity the kind. And finally Dauntless the brave, in which Tris enlists herself after an extremely dangerous training . The Erudite led by Kate Winslet , have declared war against Abnegation because they think that they have essential information about Divergent. Then the Erudite scheme a massacre against Abnegation. Then, Tris unlocks secrets , uncovering horrible deeds and along with his partners and with the help from others on his side carry out a strong fight against a nasty alliance run by Kate Winslet which threatens to tear their society apart. Tris takes desperate, disturbing choices, and makes difficult decissions to protect the ones she loves, and, finally, discovering the shocking truth.

This first part contains thrills , chills , noisy action, high body-count , breathtaking state-of-art-special effects, enough characterization , and violent happenings . Here our starring Tris faces one impossible challenge after another, as she unreveals the truth about her past and, ultimately, the meaning of the strange and mysterious divergence, as well as the dark future on her sad world . The movie relies heavily on the long interrogatory with excessive use of machines, and abstract images on the dreams performed by Tris , as it turns out to be tiring, confusing and a little bit boring. It is followed by Insurgent 2015 by Rober Schewenke in which Tris approaches the residents of Amity led by Octavia Spencer and meet the factionless and Four's, Theo James, mother : Naomi Watts. And finally, the conclusion and unexpected denouement : Allegiant. Stars Shailene Woodley who gives nice acting as the valiant teen who is really haunted by her past, as well as she must confront her inner demons. She is well accompanied by a good support cast to be with her in the three entries, such as : Ray Stevenson, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Jay Courtney, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Ben Lloyd Hughes, and Kate Winslet.

The picture has a colorful and brilliant cinematography by Alwin Kuchler. And a thrilling and rousing musixal score by Junkie XL. The flick was well directed by Neil Burger, though it results to be overlong and a little bit tiring. However, Neil did not make the second outing, as he couldn't due to scheduling conflicts with postproduction in this Divergent 2014. Burger is a good professional director who has got some successes as cinema as TV. As he has directed notorious films as The illusionist, Limitless, Interview with an assassin, The upside. And TV series and episodes as Billion, Books, the jury TV, The asset TV, among others. Rating : 6, decent Science Fiction movie that will appeal to teenagers. Well worth watching.

This is a moving, outlandish thriller with noisy action , chills , shootouts , black humor , chases , car crashes and lots of violence . This was a doomed film in low budget that suffered financing cuts , several interruptions , and death of a great actor during shooting :Félix Rotaeta. The picture pays tribute to the comic books world , including an agreeable homage to Silver Surfer by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby .The movie takes parts of known films as Mad Max series , Spaghetti/Paella Westerns , and Spanish filmmakers as Alex De la Iglesia and Pedro Almodovar . The cast is pretty good such as : Pere Ponce as an upright cop man who attempts to leave the corrupt place and begin a new life in California by drafting in in the L.A. Police Academy , and the Punk idol Iggy Pop in one of his longest intervention in cinema. And other very secondaries and cameos as Benito Pocino as a villager , Ariadna Gil and Mónica Van Campen .

The picture is well set in atmospheric wastelands scenarios similar to Spaghetti Western . However , no being shot in Almería , but in Bardenas Reales , Navarra , that bears remarkable resemblance to Almeria. Evocative and brilliant cinematography in yellow color style by Carlos Gusi. Although , a perfect remastering being utterly necessary, because of the film copy is wort-out. Thrilling and adequate musical score in Ennio Morricone wake , including attractive songs sung at the beginning and the end by Iggy Pop . And state-of-art special effects by the time , being carried out by the prestigious company DDT , which a bit later on, would win an Academy Award for Pan's labyrinth . Cantinflas (2014)
6/10
Biopic about the great idol Cantinflas from his humble origins until his greatest success
28 December 2018
This is a Mexican/Spanish co-production dealing with the untold story of Mexico's greatest and most beloved comedy film star of all time, Cantinflas (Oscar Jaenada) , from his poor origins on the small stage and his acting in Mexican cinema to the bright lights of Hollywood , being hired by a powerful US producer , Mike Todd (Michael Imperioli) .In his youth, he earned money as a prizefighter and worked as an acrobat in circus tent shows. As he acted in cabarets , theatres and varietee shows . He was married to Valentina Ivanova (Ilse Salas) from 1936 until her death. He appeared in more than 55 films, including as Passepartoute in his biggest hit : Around the world in 80 days (1956) . At the peak of his career in the late 1950s, Cantinflas was earning more than $1.5 million a year and was referred to in press releases as the world's highest-paid comedian. He once described as "the world's greatest comedian" by none other than Charles Chaplin (Sedgwick) .Despite the fact that Cantinflas died a millionaire several times over, and was one of the biggest stars ever in Spanish language films, he never forgot where he came from. Much of his money was given over to charitable work, including high-quality, low-income housing for Mexico City's poor. When he died, he was hailed as a national hero, and a protracted period of official mourning followed.

The picture describes various episodes about Cantinflas life from Mexico to around the world , many of them shown in flashbacks , his hard beginings , his relationship to his understanding wife Valentina Ivanova ( Ilse Salas) , the stubborn Mike Todd (who married Liz Taylor played Barbara Mori) to hire him , the Actors Unions strike led by Cantinflas himself with appearance of notorious Mexican actors as Dolores Del Rio (Jessica Gocha) , María Félix (Ximena Gonzalez-Rubio) , Jorge Negrete (Julio Bracho) , Miroslava , Gloria Marin (Giovanna Zacarias) , Ernesto Alonso , Lupita Tovar (Flor Payán) , Pedro Armendariz , Emilio Indio Fernández (Joaquin Cosio) , cameraman Gabriel Figueroa (Carlos Aragón) , among others . In addition , here shows up some prestigious Hollywood actors in brief appearances , such as : Kirk Douglas (Juan Castelazo) , Charlie Chaplin (Julian Sedgwick) , Marlene Dietrich (Karin Burnett) , Marlon Brando ,Yul Brynner , and Liz Taylor . Furthermore , showing the shooting in the Churubusco studios of some Cantinflas films as ¨Ahí esta el detalle¨, ¨Ni sangre ni arena¨, ¨El gendarme desconocido¨, ¨Un dia con el diablo¨ and , of course , ¨Around the world in 80 days¨ . Stars Oscar Jaenada who looks exactly him , he gives an acceptable acting as the famous showman . However , this film was not well received in México, due to the decission of giving the role to a spanish actor. The general sense is that even when the acting was good, Jaenada was not capable to be funny, because he couldn't understand the mexican sense of humor. There's no real consensus on how Mario Moreno Reyes adopted his more familiar professional name. One story goes that he did not want to shame his family, who thought of show business as a less than respectable profession, and so created his name. Another is that, at one of his first nightclub engagements, a heckler taunted him with, "¡En la cantina inflas!" ("You get drunk in the bar room!"). Other stories say the name came from phrases like "¡Cuanto inflas!", (you really get drunk!) "¿Cantas o le inflas?" (you sing or get drunk?), or "ya calláte cantinflas" (shut up, cheap singer) For some reason, this amused him, and he shortened the taunt into the professional name of Cantinflas. In 1936 Cantinflas made his first "film," a two-reel advertisement for a trucking company. A year later, he appeared in his first movie for the nascent Mexican film industry, "Asi Es Mi Tierra" ("That's My Country"). He scored his first international success in 1940 with what also was his first full-length feature, "Ahi Esta el Detalle" ("There Is the Detail"). In his second major film, "Ni Sangre, Ni Arena" ("Neither Blood Nor Sand"), Cantinflas plays dual roles - an arrogant matador and a humble, devoted fan. The comedy begins when, through a classic mix-up of identities, the lowly fan is mistaken for the vain bull fighter. Cantinflas was to perfect the bull-fight into one of his most famous routines, performed again and again in arenas in Mexico, Europe and the United States.

The movie has enough budget , including big production design , fastuous scenarios , and luxurious sets . As well as a colorful and brilliant cinematography by Carlos Hidalgo . It contains an evocative and atmospheric musical score by Roque Baños . The motion picture was professionally directed by Sebastian del Amo who plays a cameo as Yul Brynner . It had a great world wide premiere in Mexico D.F. and it was Official submission of Mexico to the best foreign language film category of the 87th Academy Awards 2015. In Spain was released in 2016, 2 years later, in 36 theaters and thanks to Óscar Jaenada who personally secured it a Spanish released trough his connections, which ended up happening on April the 15th 2016.

Acceptable Spaghetti/Paella Western co-produced by Italy/Spain and shot in Almeria , of course .
27 December 2018
This is a decent Spaghetti/Chorizo Western titled Per mille dollari al giorno (original title) well realized by a craftsman , Silvio Amadio. It concerns a man (introducing Zachary Hatcher) , trains himself target practice to become the best shot in the West . Later on ,he is really trained by Carranza (Pepe Calvo) , an expert shooter in wheelchair . He becomes a tough gunfighter in order to get rid of a band of killers who murdered his parents in their home when they rejected to sell their ownership to pass the railway . The nasty killers are the ruthless Clark Brothers : Jason Clark (as Ruben Rojo) , Wayne Clark (Mirko Ellis) , Lon Clark (Manuel Gil) . After a training period Scott returns the small town where their murdered parents lived , to exact a merciless vendetta . Scott Baker carries out his assignment by means of a cruel manner , as he executes a slaughter and atrocity , he pulls off a single-handedly revenge, slashes, , ravages and kills each person involved in the massacre . He is relentless in his vendetta , deadly in his violence . The conflict is simple , one between avenger Scott Baker against also relentless killers , the Clark Brothers , never hesitating to kill. Meanwhile , Scott rekindles his love to an old girlfriend (Pier Angeli) married to a two-fisted sheriff (Mimmo Palmara or Dick Palmer) .

This spaghetti western has noisy action , showdown , evil landowners taking properties , barroom brawl , native american attacks , and a final trial . It's a thrilling western with breathtaking showdown between the protagonist , the newcomer Zachary Hatcher , and the enemy : Ruben Rojo , Mirko Ellis , Manuel Gil and their hoodlums . This exciting western contains a story full of violence , good dramatic pace and slick direction . Passable Chorizo-Spaghetti Western decently produced by Spain and Italy ; it follows the Sergio Leone wake , including close-up , zooms , choreographic duels and no being proceeded in American style . The film packs thrills , shootouts , drama , high body-count and it's fast moving and quite entertaining . It's a moving western with spectacular outdoors and breathtaking confrontation among heartless protagonists , Zachary Hatcher and his nemesis Ruben Rojo , and then things go wrong when Zachary is contracted by the Clark Brothers as a hired gun and he kills them one by one . Acceptable action sequences with rousing crossfire and spectacularly bloody shootouts , including Indian attacks and usual final appearance by cavalry with trumpet sounds . Charismatic performance for the whole casting . Stars the unknown Zachary Hatcher in his only film . Co-stars the beautiful and sweet Pier Angeli . She was actress Marisa Pavan's sister . Her first role was an uncredited part in 1948's The Million Dollar Nickel (1952), an Italian production. Pier was 16 at the time and it was to be the first of many roles for this beautiful woman. The film was largely forgettable but it was a start. The following year she played in another Italian production, Tomorrow is too late (1950). Again it was a very small role, and she was not seen on the screen again until 1951. Between 1949 and 1951 she appeared in stage productions and found work in menial jobs. Later that year she won the title role in Teresa (1951). However, she again hit a drought with only one film in 1952 and two in 1953. The next year things began to pick up, however, with Hollywood beckoning at her door. After the Italian Mademoiselle Nitouche (1954) she caught the eyes of Hollywood moguls, who cast her in Flame and the Flesh (1954) and Silver Chalice (1954). Now she divided her time between Italy and the US making movies. She married Vic Damone in 1954, a union that lasted only four years and produced one son. No film offers came in 1955, but in 1956 Pier landed the plum role of Norma Graziano , wife of fighter Rocky Graziano , in Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956) opposite Paul Newman. The film was well received at the box office and she had hopes that things were going to pick up again. She played Ynez in Port Africa (1956) later that year and then another drought ensued. After The Vintage (1957), Marry Andrew (1958) and S.O.S, Pacífic (1959), she made three more films in 1960. Then once again 1961 saw no appearances. In 1962 Pier played Ildith in Sodom and Gomorra (1962) and later that year played in a French production entitled L'ammutinamento (1961). After the Italian production of Panic in Bangkok (1964) she returned in the hit European-American co-production The battle of Bugle (1965). After a handful of films between 1966 and 1970, Pier realized her dreams of superstardom were not to be. She had divorced her second husband : the musician Armando Trovajoli in 1969 and made her final appearance on the screen in 1971 in the low-budget sci-fi opus Octaman (1971). On September 10 of that year Pier was found dead of a barbiturate overdose in her Beverly Hills home. She was only 39 years old. Being a Spanish/Italian production , here shows up regular Western actors , as Spaniard players : José Calvo of Leone's Fistful of dollars , Ruben Rojo , Manuel Gil ,Enrique Ávila , Angel Menendez , and Italian ones as Mimmo Palmara or Dick Palmer ,Mirko Ellis , and Tom Felleghy .

The musician Gino Peguri composes a nice soundtrack , well conducted , this turns out to be one of the most memorable parts of the movie , as it's plenty of enjoyable sounds and haunting musical background and with agreeable leitmotif .And catching songs at the beginning and the end titled ¨My Gun is Fast¨ sung by Bobby Solo . Atmospheric and nice cinematography by Mario Pacheco , though a perfect remasterization being extremely necessary . Including good sets, filmed on locations in Colmenar Viejo , Manzanares Del Real , Madrid , and desert of Tabernas , Almeria . Being produced by the Spanish production Company : Petruka Film and Italian : Tirso Film . The motion picture titled Por mil dólares al día (Spain) or Renegade Gunfighter (United States) or For One Thousand Dollars Per Day (United States) or Pour mille dollars par jour (France) or 1.000 dollar för revolverman (Sweden) was professionally directed by Silvio Amadio , though it gets some flaws , gaps and failures . Silvio was a fine artisan who worked in various jobs in the cinematic industry , such as : Makeup Department , Second Unit Director or Assistant Director , production and finally , filmmaking . As he directed all kinds of genres , such as : ¨Sex Comedies¨, many of them starred by his wife Gloria Guida : Il medico... la studentessa or Los caprichos de Gloria , Quella età maliziosa, Peccati di gioventù or Pecados de juventud , Oltraggio al pudore , La minorenne ; ¨Thrillers¨ : Il segreto del vestito rosso , Il carabiniere , L'ammutinamento , Alla ricerca del piacere . And he made Sword and Sandal movies as Seven thunderbolts or Le sette folgori di Assur or War Gods of Babylone (1962) and also realized another Peplum titled ¨Minotaur the wild beast of Creta¨ his greates hit. Rating : 5.5/10 .

The movie is an enjoyable animation film in 3D , in which the legendary rodent named Perez takes an unexpected turn for the worse when a nasty and ambitious villainous , Manuel Manquiña, attempts to kidnap him .The CGI is nowhere near excellent but it wasn't too bad either as the spectator quickly gets used to it . It deals with the likable mouse , his enthusiast colleagues rats and his fellow girlfriend as well as a new friend , Lucas . A Ratty Family Entertainment in which some of the sequences are too far-fetched , there are plot holes , and flaws , but the picture results to be pretty amusing . The film is frankly entertaining with emphasis on cartoon spectacle , adventures and emotion . There are several silly scenes and a lot of action as when the likeable mouse is relentlessly chased and take place bounds and leaps . The idea behind the world of rats is creative and well executed and drew a few chuckles and laughter . Film direction by Andrés G. Schaer is nice , being well written by Angel Pariente with voices by Alejandro Awada and Campanelli ; and sympathetic acting from Matias Sandor , Manuel Manquiña , the veteran comical Joe Rigoli and Manuela Velasco , and music is first-rate and very spectacular .

Production by Julio Fernandez and Carlos Fernandez , ruling of Filmax Productions and Fantastic Factory is fine . They have become two of the most important producers of the country . Actually, the position of his organization responds fully to the opportunities of the European and international markets in the leisure sector, emphasizing on the fantastic genre, through Fantastic Factory and animation with Filmax Animation, to the global market on home video, television and also theatrically . They have produced successful cartoon films like this ¨El Raton Perez I¨ and II¨ also titled "The Hairy Tooth Fairy", ¨Gisaku¨ , ¨Donkey Xote¨, ¨El Cid : the legend¨ directed by Jose Pozo and ¨Goomer¨, among others . The picture was professionally directed by Andres Schaer , who has written and directed and as Second Unit Director or Assistant Director on various family movies . He is a good producer and director, known for his work on Morko y Mali (2016), Copito de Nieve (2011) , El arca (2007) , Deuda (2004) and this : El ratón Pérez 2 . Rating : 6/10, acceptable and passable and decent animated movie .

Biblical tale about the favored son of the patriarch Jacob who was given into captivity by his own envious brothers
24 December 2018
The Biblical story of Joseph , beloved son of Jacob and great-grandson of Abraham , who rose to become Prime Minister of Egypt . Joseph : Geoffrey Horne, was sold to slavery by his brothers : Judah, Dan Reuben, Zebulon, Simeon,.. played by Helmuth Schneider, Dante Di Paolo , Manetto, Charles Borromel... , they were jealous of his abilitites and of being their father's favorite. As they seize him, tear off his coat and throw him into a dry well and the following day he is given to traders on their way o Egypt . As Joseph is sold as a slave to Pothiphar : Robert Morley , the Pharaoh's Prime Minister. His prophetic abilities and highly productive skill win his master's trust and he is appointed as Steward of Pothiphar 's household. One day, he is seduced by Pothiphar' s wife , Belinda Lee , who orders to give her pleasure, but Joseph rejects her. The desesperate woman seeks vengeance and accuses him of violation . Joseph is locked and in prison he prophetizes the future by interpreting the dark dreams. As Joseph describes the famous dream about seven fat cows and seven thin cows . As Joseph is summoned by Pharaoh and predicts the dreams that after 7 years of plentiful harvest, Egypt will suffer 7 years of starvation. Convinced , the Pharaoh appoints Joseph as his main chancellor , and , subsequently , he takes an attractive Egyptian girl : Vira Silenti , as his wife .

Biblic story in medium budget imitating the American Colossal but made in Peplum style. This old Testament story is decently told, though it has some flaws and gaps, taking parts here and there of the known story about Joseph who was sold into slavery and after governing Egypt during seven-year famine ; while his brothers go to the country seeking grain only to encounter their brother who they had long presumed dead .The picture offers enjoyable messages about forgiveness, fraternity , compassion , brotherhood , and redemption . It stars Geoffrey Horne who gives an average acting as the good son whose brothers become increasingly resentful of their dad's preference of Joseph . Horne had a brief cinematic career including titles as Bridge on the River Kwai , 3 implacables , Tempest and Bonjour Tristesse. He is accompanied by two Hollywood actors , Robert Morley and Finlay Currie who played various various Colossal, epic and Biblical film. Along with a lot of Italian secondaries as Arturo Dominici, Vira Silenti ,Charles Borromel, Dante Di Paolo and a young Terence Hill as the youngest brother Benjamin. And the beautiful British girl Belinda Lee who a bit later on she died by car accident at 25.

It contains an evocative and atmospheric musical score Mario Nascimbene. And colorful and shining cinematography by Riccardo Pallotini. The motion picture was regular but professionally directed by Luciano Ricci and Irving Rapper. The Italian Luciano directed a few films as Alone against Rome, and Castle of Living dead. While the American Irving Rapper was a veteran Hollywood director and producer who directed films from all kinds of genres , such as : The brave one , Forever female , Deception , Rhapsody in blue , Another man's person , The corn is Green , Adventures of Mark Twain , among others . There is another rendition about these events : ¨Joseph¨(1995) TV version by Roger Young with Paul Mercurio as Joseph , Ben Kingsley , Lesley Ann-Warren and Martin Landau as Jacob .

Mediocre and sour comedy about a traumatized woman who becomes involved into several incidents when she enlists in the pyramidal selling

Passable comedy with some dramatic elements , including decent interpretation, surprises, twists and adequate setting. It is a typical Spanish comedy with usual ingredients , as outlandish characters , confusión , mayhem and disconcerting events .The plot is plain and simple, a woman stigmatized by a famous sketch broadcasting in 1985's new year eve, parodying the Radio Show : ¨Encarna de noche¨ or Encarna at night , and performed by the notorious comical duo : ¨Martes Y Trece¨ formed by Josema Yuste and Millan Salcedo, dealing with Empanadillas de Mostoles , and later on, she becomes involved into twisted situations when she determines to work as a saleswoman for a strange company to sell their products : "SayLife" , and run by Victoria Abril herself. Alexandra Jimenez gives a nice acting as a woman with a boring life and a job absent of incentives. Cristina Castaño plays her previous friend who introduces her in the world of pyramid selling. And Victoria Abril as actress Victoria herself, playing a cunning and rogue seller boss who is really a ruthless swindler. Decent support cast , such as : Jose Manuel Cervino as the veteran and ill professor , Concha Hidalgo, Marta Berlanguer , Antonio de Cruz and the three Bodegas sisters or Las Supremas de Móstoles who perform and dance some catching and popular sings . Rating : 5.5/10 , acceptable and passable but average.

Fort Yuma (1955)
6/10
Standard Western about a cavalry expedition heading for Fort Yuma Arizona and along the way suffering native american attack
21 December 2018
The picture gets Western action , shootouts , US cavalry go riding , a love story with interracial relationship , and it results to be an enjoyable tale . A disgruntled settler kills an Apache chief at a cavalry post , and the fort's commander knows that Mangas Coloradas is dead assigning a dangerous misssion to a tough Lieutenant and then the chief's son , Mangas (Abel Fernández) , will seek vengeance and to go on the warpath. General Crook (Addison Richards) sends word by a courier , behind enemy lines , to Fort Apache , Arizona , where a supply column is due to head across the desert to Fort Yuma , but the courier is killed by Apache Indians . The column along with covered wagons , supplies , repeating rifles , Winchester rifles , ammunition , all of them under the command of a hater officer named Keegan (Peter Graves) who suspects on his assigned scout , Jonas (John Hudson) , the sibling of an Apache woman, Francesca (Joan Taylor) , whom Keegan has been having an affair with. Also accompanying them is Melanie Crowne (Joan Vohs) , who is going to do missionary work among the Indians. Later on , Apache Mangas attacks the column wiping out some soldiers and taking their clothes .

Set during the Arizona Indian Wars with the violent upheaval of brave chiefs as : Cochise , Jeronimo , Vitorio , Mangas Coloradas , when fear and violence spread throughout the land .This one shows a campy , amusing and entertaining glimpse in the Wild West . The film packs thrills , noisy action , horse pursuits , crossfire , high body-count , cavalry charges and it is fast-moving and quite entertaining . It's a medium budget film with acceptable actors , technicians , functional production values and pleasing results . There is plenty of action in the movie , guaranteeing some shoot'em up or stunts every few minutes .Bursting with appealing characters, thought-provoking themes as racism and homosexuality as the peculiar relationship among two soldiers , sub-plots , symbols , and with very decent filmmaking and interpretation . There is an odd implementation of shots in the camera work during some particular scenes as the film approaches its climax , as the battles between cavalry and Apaches who dressed in the uniforms of the dead soldiers scheme to gain entrance to Fort Yuma , to carry out a slaughter . Nice production design creating an adequate scenario with luminous outdoors , plains , montains and rocky landscapes under a glimmer sun and atmospheric sets but in B-series style . To avoid the Production Code Administration to rate it as inappropriate because it contained too much sadism and excessive gruesomenes producers Howard W. Koch and Aubrey Schenck reduced the number of murders . It stars the always agreeable Peter Graves, though here in a bigotry role , a Lieutenant called Ben Keegan who hates Apaches but he gets redemption when he realizes how foolish he had been in his prejudice and in keeping a love secret . Peter drafted United States Air Force, he studied drama at the University of Minnesota and then headed to Hollywood, where he first appeared on television and later made his film debut in Rogue River (1951). Numerous film appearances followed, especially in Westerns . However, Graves is primarily recognized for his television work, particularly as Jim Phelps in Mission impossible (1966). He made movies of all kinds of genres , Sci-Fi, drama , Western , Warlike , comedy , such as : Stalag , Beneath the 12-mile reef , It conquered the world , Killers from space , The clonus horror , The court martial of Billy Mitchell , The winds of war , Sergeant Ryker , Cruise missile , Legend of the Sea Wolf , Scream of the Wolf, Texas across the river , The Guns and the Fury , The rebels , Survival run, Let's make up , The night of the hunter , The slipper and the rose , being especially known for his special appearances in : Airplane I and II and Men in Black 2 . Peter Graves died of a heart attack on March 14, 2010, just four days before his 84th birthday. His partenaires are two beautiful and attractive girls : Joan Taylor and Joan Vohs . They are accompanied by a fine support cast , such as : John Hudson , James O'Hara , Abel Fernandez as Mangas and Addison Richards as Gen. Crook .

Thrilling and stirring musical score by Paul Dunlap . And colorful as well as brilliant cinematography by Gordon Avil . The motion picture efficiently produced by Howard W Koch , being professionally directed by Lesley Selander . Selander is generally considered to be the most prolific director of feature Westerns of all time , with at least 107 to his credit between 1935 and 1967. He realized his first feature in 1936, a western , genre in which he would not only excel but one where he would spent much of the rest of his career. Although Selander couldn't be deemed an "A"-list director, his movies had a professionalism and a verve that many of those made by his fellow B directors lacked . As he made a lot of Western , as he began in this genre with series starred by Buck Jones and ¨Hopalong Cassidy¨ series starred by William Boyd such as ¨Silver on the sage¨ , ¨Three men from Texas¨ and ¨Wide open town¨. In Republic production he directed his better movies such as ¨Panhandle¨and ¨Stampede¨ starred by Rod Cameron and in RKO he directed Tim Holt in 20 films such as ¨Rio Grande patrol¨ and ¨Overland telegraph¨. Selander finished directing about 106 horse operas helmed between 1917 and 1949 . He subsequently shot B-movies such as ¨Fort Vengeance¨, ¨Left handed law¨, ¨Heritage of the desert¨, ¨Arrow in the desert¨, ¨Shotgun¨, ¨Town tamer¨ and his last picture ¨Texas Kid¨ filmed in Spain with Audie Murphy . He also filmed detective thrillers, action/adventure motion pictures and even a horror film or two . One standout that is seldom seen nowadays, however, is ¨Return from the Sea¨ (1954), a sentimental and lyrical story . The last few feature films he made, in the mid- and late 1960s, were a string of what's come to be known as "geezer westerns" churned out by producer A.C. Lyles, embarrassing efforts made on the cheap that were meant to give employment to aging cowboy stars , the less said about them . Rating : 5.5/10 . Acceptable and passable . Well worth watching .

A superb , adult and almost classic Western with rich characterisation of Peck's notorious gunslinger Johnny Ringo
20 December 2018
A serious-mature , humourless Hollywood Western with thought-provoking character studio about an aging pistolero searching for peace and quiet but unable to avoid his reputation and the duel-challenges it invites . As Ringo (Gregory Peck in a character originally sought by John Wayne) attempting and inevitably failing run away from his past . In the Southwest of the 1880 , the difference between death and glory was often but a fraction of a second . This was the speed that made champions of Wyatt Earp , Billy the Kid and Wild Bill Hickok . But the fastest man with a gun who ever lived , by many contemporary accounts , was a long , lean , Texan named Ringo. A man pursued by nasty gunfighters sneering ¨He doesn't look so tough to me¨. Riding into the small town where the spouse and child he abandoned are living incognito , he insists on waiting in the saloon in the hope that she will agree to see him . Meanwhile, indignant rustling from the good ladies of the town serve notice that an outlaw is unwelcome and with assorted grudge-bearers already assembling , along with the aforesaid fast-draw gunslingers , there is clearly no future for Ringo . His only friends were his guns and his refuge was a woman's heart , Peggy Walsh (Helen Westcott).

Very good and pleasant classic Western with magnificent direction and flawlessly acted by Gregory Peck who steals the show as a peaceful gunfighter who learns that he has become no better than those he hunted . A Hollywood production full of interesting characters , shootouts and intense drama . It gives a profound observance of the unities , as clock-watching as obsessively as ¨High Noon¨, it is an altogether tougher , bleaker film and a groundbreaker in its day . Peck is nice as a man just about over the hill, haunted by the dead weight of his reputation , holding a fear of loneliness , the certainly of dying at the hands of some fast-draw punks . Studio executives at 20th Century Fox are said to have blamed the film's indifference box-office on the fact that Peck wore moustache . It's an exciting western with breathtaking showdown between the protagonist Gregory Peck against proud contenders , as two gun-happy cutthroats : Richard Jaeckel and Skip Homeier . It carries an enjoyable feeling of authenticity for a Western of this period and there are nice supporting characters from Millard Mitchell , Jean Parker , Karl Malden , Skip Homeier , Ellen Corby , Richard Jaeckel , among others . In the film premiere didn't attain success , nowadays is well valued and I think it turns out to be a good classic Western. The picture is fleshed out with a marvelous cast as Gregory Peck who is excellent as a good father turned gunfighter . Helen Wescott gives a good performance as Ringo's former wife , she does a well measured portrayal of a woman who still loves her previous sweetheart and who promises to leave with him which ultimately can never be . Nice too is Skip Homeier as the brash young gun , and Millard Mitchell as the amiable Sheriff . Richard Jaeckel , at a brief acting , as a cruelly baddie role , an angry young is also terrific . Stylishly written by prestigious by André De Toth , William Sellers and uncredited : Roger Corman , Nunnally Johnson , the screenplay was based on an original story by William Bowers . The movie was directed with a positive flair by Henry King . There are many fine technicians and nice assistants as Lyle Wheeler , Thomas Little and Walter Scott in charge of Art Direction and Set Direction respectively . Good production design creating an excellent scenario with luminous outdoors, adequate interiors , saloon and fine sets . The musician Alfred Newman composes a nice soundtrack and well conducted ; it's full of agreeable sounds, and a haunting musical leitmotif . Sharply photographed with striking cinematography by Arthur Miller in black and white with negative well processed .

This one is a dark downbeat story of a gunfighter perfectly performed by Gregory Peck told with genuine realism and honesty , being one of Henry King's best films . Henry King 's direction is well crafted , here he's more thought-provoking and broody and more inclined toward a deep seriousness , and a fateful sense of fate , it is a movie that has the genuine dimension of a Greek tragedy . Henry King was an expert on compelling Adventure/Western genre . Henry King directed other classic Western as ¨ Jesse James(1939)¨and ¨The Bravados (1958)¨ with Peck again . Koster was specialist on Adventure genre as proved in ¨Untamed , Captain King , Captain of Castilla , Black Swan , Stanley and Livingstone ¨and many others . Rating : Better than average . Worthwhile watching .

So-so Sci-Fi about O.S.I., the Office of Scientific Investigation to find out weird magnetism and strange atomic forces
19 December 2018
The astounding story of the "thing" that came alive deals with the discovery of an atomic power , then the government has set up a special group, the Office of Scientific Investigation or OSI , to look into rare phenomenon . Those who work there are known as A-Men (similarly to G-Men) , they are detectives for science and they are called in perilous missions as A-Man (A as in Atom) led by the brave agent Jeffrey Stewart (Richard Carlson) and his partner Dan Forbes (King Donovan) are sent to a local hardware store where they find a strong magnetic field has magnetized every metal item in the store and other bizarre phenomena .There they find the local appliance store owner that explain them all of their products have become highly magnetized and the things came alive . As they start a number of tests to establish what the source of the magnetism . The scientists are puzzled but their investigation leads them to a scientist who has invented a new element of extraordinary power. Unless they can find a way to stop its growth, it will destroy the Earth. As terror sweep through the heart of a city in the dead of night and this one man , the brave scientific , stands between the earth and doom! , battling a monstrous being that terrorizes Earth! A Cosmic Frankenstein monstrosity terrorizes earth and there is an only Man That Dared To Track The Monster To Its Lair!

A main candidate for the strangest and nuttiest Science Fiction of all time along with ¨Red planet Mars¨ by Harry Horner , including a surprising premise and plenty of twists and turns . This in an incoherent movie overburned with various messages about atomic danger and risks on the sub-atomic particles . As the picture narrates how a new danger faces man, sound waves that kill, atomic isotopes searing flesh, even pilotless planes that break the sound barrier , and to combat these threats a new agency has been created, The Office of Scientific Investigation (OSI) the men who work for this agency are known as ¨A men¨ similar to the classic ¨G-Men¨. The script involves a valiant scientist , his helper , his pregnant wife and their fight against a giant magneto-dynamo with tremendous power .The best parts of the movie are the thrilling final scenes ; however , using stock footage of the underground magneto-dynamo from the German science fiction thriller Gold (1934).It stars the always agreeable Richard Carlson . His film debut was The Young in Heart (1938). At the beginning he played forgettable second features, such as the supernaturally-themed Beyond tomorrow (1940), or commercial failures, like the nostalgic Anna Neagle musical No, No, Nanette (1940). There was, however, one stellar performance: his newspaperman David Hewitt in William Wyler's brilliant adaptation of Lillian Hellman's southern melodrama The Fox (1941). This was followed by another decent role in the fruity -but highly enjoyable- melodrama White Cargo (1942), and the lead in a cliched, run-of-the-mill crime picture, Highways by Night (1942). Then , Richard found renewed energy for his third-billed appearance in MGM's lavish Technicolor remake of King Salomon's mines (1950). Perhaps surprisingly, this did not lead to further roles in A-grade features. Instead, Richard Carlson found himself the unlikely star of several sci-fi features, which have attained cult status over the passing years. Pick of the bunch was Jack Arnold's seminal It came from outer space (1953) , based on a story by Ray Bradbury , with Richard in the role of a well-meaning, rather arcane astronomer, witness to an alien presence which turns out to be benign. The sincerity of his performance led to similar parts in The magnetic monster (1953) with similar moralistic undertones and the atmospheric Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954). He is accompanied by an unknown support cast such as : King Donovan , Michael Fox , Byron Foulger , Jean Byron who plays his wife , she was billed the third , but the filming was so tight that she shot her scenes in one day . Look for two notorious secondaries giving brief interpretations : Kathleen Freeman and Strother Martin .

It packs an atmospheric musical score by Sanford and Paul Beaver . As well as an evocative cinematography in black and white by Charles Enger .This Sci-Fi film from another age that was ahead of its time was written and produced by Ivan Tors , being regularly directed by Curt Siodmak and Herbert L. Strock . Although credited to Curt Siodmak, most of the film was actually directed by Herbert L. Strock, who was hired by Ivan Tors for his skills as an editor, which were viewed as essential for a film that relied so much on stock footage. Curt Siodmak was a good writer and filmmaker who had a long career . One of Siodmak's first film-writing assignments was the screenplay for the German sci-fi picture F.P.1 antwortet nicht (1932) (US title: "Floating Platform 1 Does Not Answer"), based on his own novel. Compelled to leave Germany after Adolf Hitler and the Nazis took power, Siodmak went to work as a screenwriter in England and then moved to Hollywood in 1937. He got a job at Universal through his director-friend Joe May, helping write the script for May's The Invisible man returns (1940). Because the film went over well, Siodmak says, he fell into the horror/science-fiction "groove" . As he directed : Bride of the Gorilla , Slaves of the Amazons ,The Devil's Messenger , Curucu, Beast of the Amazon and 13 Demon Street . While director Herbert L-Strock made a lot of terror and Sci-Fi movies such as : Witches's brew , Monster , Men on the run , The crawling hand , How to make a monster , Flood of Drácula , Rider on a Dead Horse and I was a teenager monster . Rating : 5.5/10. Acceptable and passable .

But Mars results to be a utopia and that Earth's people can be saved if they return to the worship of God and other rare events . It stars the always agreeable Peter Graves . Peter Graves died of a heart attack on March 14, 2010, just four days before his 84th birthday. His partenaire is the beautiful and attractive Andrea King , being her first screen appearance in the film entitled The Ramparts We Watch (1940). After signing with Warner Bros. and changing her professional name, Andrea's career took off very quickly, and she appeared in nine films in 18 months. The Warner Bros. studio photographers voted Andrea the most photogenic actress on the lot for the year 1945. Her first leading role came early on with Hotel Berlin (1945), following other films as The Very Thought of You , God Is My Co-Pilot , My Wild Irish Rose , Song of surrender , Darby's Rangers , Silent Fear , Dial 1119 , I Was a Shoplifter , The Lemon Drop Kid , The Mark of the Renegade and The world in his arms . They are accompanied by a good support cast , such as : Walter Sande , Marvin Miller , Willis Bouchey and an usual actor in Sci-Fi movies : Morris Ankrum .

Rare screenplay by Anthony Veiller and John Balderson based on the play : ¨Red Planet¨ by John Hoare and John Lloyd Balderson . It packs an atmospheric musical score by Merrick . As well as an evocative cinematography in black and white by the notorious cameraman Joseph F. Biroc who had a long career .This film from another age that was ahead of its time was regularly directed by Harry Horner . He formed an association with the noted production designer William Cameron Menzies and made a few films , such as : New faces of 1952 , Vicki , Man from Del Rio , The wild party , A life in the balance , Beware my lovely and this one . Rating : 5/10 , average but passable .

Charming and enjoyable recounting about unforgettable and inmortal Christmas story
17 December 2018
Worthwhile adaptation about timeless and quintessential Christmas tale , it is definitely worth a look thanks to splendid animated images . It's fun , touching and different approach to the Christmas classic with acceptable effects by cartoon , dealing with the known story about an old bitter miser who makes excuses for his uncaring nature learns real compassion when three ghosts visit him on Christmas Eve . A Christmas Carol is an agreeable production , a wonderful and straight-forward approach to the Dickens's source material , being splendid but freely adapted . It stars with a live-action sequence set in Boston in 1857, the site of a live reading by renowned novelist Dickens played by Simon Callow. The production values & drawing are both adequate with just enough attractive to appeal to the tenderhearted , and with touching doses of horror , case of the potentially frightening elements the Ghosts of Past, Present and Future , adding sentiment ; all of them are blended into the mix , until , like a nice Christmas punch , the result appeals to all . Scrooge is a miserly old businessman in 1840's London . He displays no charity to mankind generally , and in particular , to his employee Bob Cratchett and his unfortunate son , Tiny Tim . One Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of Marley, his dead business partner. He is warned that he must change his miserly ways or face damnation . Marley foretells that Scrooge will be visited by three spirits , each of whom will attempt to show Scrooge the error of his ways . In Just One Night, He Has Seen His Past, His Present, And His Future. And They've All Come Back To Haunt Him Will Scrooge reform his ways in time to celebrate Christmas? . To his delight, the spirits complete their visits in one night giving him the opportunity to mend his ways. The first spirit, the Ghost of Christmas Past , shows Scrooge visions of his own past in which had spent much of his childhood neglected by his father over the holidays at boarding school until he was finally brought home by his loving sister Fan who died prematurely after giving birth to his nephew Fred . A past in which appears a young Scrooge and including a broken engagement to his girlfriend . In Just One Night , He Has Seen His Past, His Present, And His Future. And They've All Come Back To Haunt Him Will Scrooge reform his ways in time to celebrate Christmas? .

A marvelous recounting of a Christmas vintage classic , beginning with Dickens himself explains that the mouse, named Gabriel, carries a blaze of hope amidst the glaring co-existence of rich and poor in the streets of London in this retelling of Charles Dickens' immortal story . As throughout the subsequent unfolding of the famous tale a pair of mouse providing younger members of the audience with a point of childish style into the story . Decent and stirring rendition with top-notch animated drawings . Atmospherically, the movie is as comfortable and heartwarming as an old Christmas card , including potentially frightening aspects : the Ghosts of Past, Present and Future .The whole concept of looking at your life in the past, present and future is creative in and of itself . After watching the movie, you may look at your life from the same perspectives . And adding the pleasant voices from prestigious actors , such as : Simon Callow as Scrooge / Charles Dickens , Nicolas Cage , Kate Winslet , Jane Horrocks , Rhys Ifans , Juliet Stevenson , Robert Llewellyn and Michael Gambon who also played a Scrooge role in the Doctor Who (2005) episode and A Christmas Carol . Though most of us , if not all of us, have seen other adaptations in the past or read the story, and know already what to expect, director Jimmy Murakami manages to capture pure magic with this peculiar portrayal of main character Ebenezer Scrooge , and it is definitely worth a look . It's fun and different approach to the Christmas classic. A highly recommended film that nobody should miss it especially during Christmas time still ranks as one of the most enjoyable adaptations of the Dickens classic ever. This animated retelling of Charles Dickens' classic novel about a Victorian-era miser taken on a journey of self-redemption will appeal to Charles Dickens novel fans .

The motion picture was well directed by Jimmy T. Murakami . He was born on June 5, 1933 in San Jose, California, USA as Teruaki Murakami and died in Dublín , 2014 . He is known for his work on Breath (1967), Humanoids from the Deep (1980) , Heavy Metal (1981) , The Christmas Story Keepers (1998) , The Easter Story Keepers (1998) and Kate Bush: King of the Mountain (2005) . And When the wind blows (1986) that was his greatest hit along with a Sci-Fi movie titled Battle beyond the stars produced by Roger Corman .

Other versions about this stunning story courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions are the following ones : The rather obscure 1935 version with Sir Seymour Hicks , the 1951 British production with Alastair Sim, Jack Warner , adaptation released by MGM in 1938 with Reginald Owen , Gene Lockhart , and the 1970 musical, with Albert Finney , Frank Finlay . Under the title of 'A Christmas Carol' a cartoon rendition (1997) by Stan Phillips and voiced by Tim Curry and another (1991) by Jimmy T Murakami with Simon Callow . The made-for-TV productions: 1984 with George C. Scott , 1999 with Patrick Stewart , Richard E. Grant , Saskia Reeves , Laura Fraser , Joel Grey and the 2004 musical, with Kelsey Grammer . Finally , ¨Robert Zemeckis's Christmas Carol¨ in which Jim Carrey demonstrates once again his versatility on screen ; it is given the full ¨Motion Capture¨ deluxe treatment in a superior film directed by Robert Zemeckis with Jim Carrey , Robin Wright , Colin Firth , Dominic West , adding stunning special effects with a nice little touch , but it is Carrey's interaction with the 'ghosts' and various characters that really steal the show ; including top-drawer effects by means of ¨Motion Capture¨, a technique developed by Robert Zemeckis in previous films as Beowulf and Polar Express .

Passable melodrama with intrigue , dealing with a killing and about the bullfighting world
17 December 2018
Drama , tragedy , blackmails , murder , love stories and Toreo in this fictious version about life of a famous bullfighter . Having been a poor boy who grew up in the hospice Juan Medina/Manuel Benítez 'El Cordobés' awaits his opportunity , as his dream is to become himself a great bullfighter . A young man Juan Medina , nicknamed "El Cordobés" , wants to be a known bullfighter, but becoming involved in the killing of a foreign woman and he is put in prison . In jail is helped by a good priest , Don Andrés (Luis Dávila) . Out of prison , things go wrong , he complies , as he is blackmailed by some crooks (Alberto De Mendoza, Venancio Muro) and finally his life changes , at worst . At last , Medina triumphs , as he gets to be famous , but he is apparently unrequited . Meantime , he falls in love for a beautiful girl (Elena Duque) . When he is blackmailed , then tragedies and distresses emerge . At the end , he confronts at a noisy plaza where takes place a suspenseful denouement .

This is a bullfighting drama about a notorious Torero , narrating his humble origin as well as his successful raise , in which he will learn to overcome difficulties and penury . It revolves around the bullfighting world and displaying a colorful , evocative cinematography and being professionally directed by Rafael Gil who made a great number of Spanish classics . The movie gives a nice description about the culture of Spain surrounding the age old traditions of the Matador , in which Toreros are really submitted to nerves during slaughter. As the ancient Toreo art-form is described with unflinching and fetching realism , it is the story of bullfighters against brave beasts . The motion picture was competently made by Rafael Gil carrying out an acceptable filming , halfway between a thriller and a bullfighting issue , as he pulls off in this production a brief description on the brave bullfighters , and there are lots of shots about bullfighting , especially in its final part , showing a spectacular Corrida , being technical consultants the professional Toreros . Lousy acting by Manuel Benitez El Cordobes as a simple but honest boy who finds patronage to become a Torero -bullfighter- thanks to an ¨Apoderado¨ , well played by the great veteran Manolo Morán . Although Benitez's debut film was ¨Aprendiendo a morir¨(1962), it dealt with own life , and here concerns about a fictional story about killing and blackmail . Support cast is frankly excellent , plenty of Spanish secondary star-studded , such as : Alberto De Mendoza , Manuel Alexandre , Venancio Muro , José María Seoane , Luis Induni , Antonio Casas , José María Caffarel , Juán Cortés , Hugo Pimentel , Yelena Samarina and special mention for Manolo Morán in one of his always sympathetic roles .

The film gives an appropriate portrayal about ¨Bullfighting¨ art , as the bull is released into the ring , where he is tested for ferocity by the matador and Banderilleros with the magenta and gold Capote ("Cape"). This is the first stage , the Tercio de Varas ("the lancing third"). The matador confronts the bull with the Capote , performing a series of passes and observing the behavior and quirks of the bull . Next , a ¨picador¨ enters the arena on horseback armed with a Vara (lance) . In the next stage, the Tercio De Banderillas ("the third of Banderillas") , each of the three Banderilleros attempts to plant two Banderillas, sharp barbed sticks, into the bull's shoulders . In the final stage, the "the third of death" , the matador re-enters the ring alone with a small red cape, or Muleta, and a sword .

Atmospheric photography in Eastmancolor by the Spanish classic cameraman José F. Aguayo , shot on location from Alcala De Henares , Aranjuez , Madrid Fuengirola, Málaga, Andalucía, Marbella, Torremolinos, Málaga ,Andalucía, Spain and Munich, Bavaria, Germany . Evocative and popular musical score by Gregorio García Segura .The motion picture lavishly produced by Marciano De La Fuente and the powerful producer Cesareo Gonzalez , Suevia Films' owner , that along with Cia Cifesa were the most known production companies during Francoist period , that often financed these false but breathtaking historical spectacles , being well directed by Rafael Gil , though it has some flaws and failures . This movie was professionally realized by Rafael Gil , shooting a hastily assembled decent picture , but uneven and ups and downs . Director Gil took advantage of the marvelous exteriors from Andalucia and the breathtaking ¨Corridas¨. Being filmed in usual style of the sixties and in stylistic scholarship , without leaving a trace the dramatic issues , in terms of moving and narrative excitement . He was one of the best filmmakers from Spanish cinema , fiming a large numeber of vintage movies , such as : ¨Don Quijote De La Mancha¨ , ¨El Clavo¨ , ¨La Fe¨ , ¨La Señora De Fatima¨, ¨Aventuras De Juán Lucas¨, ¨La Reina Santa¨ , ¨La Guerra De Dios¨ , ¨El Beso De Judas¨ , and several others . And he made some films about bullfighting as ¨Currito de la Cruz¨, ¨El Litri y su sombra¨ , ¨El relicario¨, ¨Sangre en el ruedo¨ , starred by known toreros such as : Angel Teruel , El Litri , Antonio Bienvenida , El Pireo , and Manuel Benitez El Cordobes. Rating : Acceptable and passable 5.5/10 . The motion picture will appeal to bullfighting aficionados .

This is a very dark tale of killings with a fantastic horror backdrop and so-so filmmaking from Anthony M Dawson. Adequate cinematography by Carlo Carlini, shot on location in Castello Massimo Arsoli, Rome and Incir de Paolis, Rome, Lazio. And frightening and thrilling musical score by the prolific Riz Ortalani.

The motion picture was professionally directed by terror expert Antonio Margheritti, though it displays some failures and flaws.
