Fifty Shades of Black (2016)
If you like crass, gross comedy you'll love this!!
I am astounded that this has such a low rating, for a comedy, it's hilarious. I've watched it several times and friends and I laughed hysterically. Many times we had to rewind the movie because we missed the next joke from laughing so much. So many comedies these days aren't funny. They may be good, they may have interesting jokes, but they don't often make me laugh at loud. This movie is different because it made me laugh, and I mean hard, straight from the gut laughs. Its so funny that people will to my room to see what I'm laughing at. And what's even better, is that it's funny from start to finish. They really worked on the script because there's something funny in every scene. And that's rare. But you have to like dark, juvenile humor.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Thunder Gun 4: Maximum Cool (2019)
The gang finally was able to get Dolph Lundgren
It's always sunny has been referencing Dolph Lundgren for many seasons now. It's great to see that their budget and popularity has now afforded them the ability to actually hire Dolph to show real clips of Thundergun. I know this must've been a Highwater Mark for the creators, and as a fan I'm also equally excited. This episode was great, I would've given it at seven but it gained an extra point for its great social commentary on the PC culture that's happening right now. For a moment, I thought it's always sunny was becoming PC itself. But luckily, that is not the case and one of my favorite shows can continue without corruption. This episode is great and a true return to form.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Dee Day (2019)
Good, not great episode, but definitely watchable
I've seen this episode a few times and only later learned it was removed because of the George Floyd riots. I'm Mexican, American, and Frank's brown face portrayal did not offend me at all. In fact, most Latin Americans are not really offended by any type of Latin American stereotype. I've been in Mexico for four years and my friends favorite episodes of South Park are the ones where they really dig into Mexicans (Mantequilla!). Latin American people have a great sense of humor, and I found this episode to be well intentioned and good enough. It wasn't great, but it was funny and watchable... good enough for me. I've seen every episode of. It's always sunny and I will continue to watch religiously because I am a diehard fan. Sure, later seasons, haven't been as good, but they have been good enough to keep my attention. I wish the show the best, and will continue to watch as long as they put in some iota of thought into the episodes.
Beverly Hills Cop II (1987)
Absolutely Excellent Sequel
I finished a long day of working and decided to relax with a movie. I had a choice of all three Beverly Cops but I went with the second and I'm so glad I did. What a great movie. Fantastic acting, great pacing, great stunts and action. Murphy was at his comedic peak here.
I also loved how in this sequel they're all friends. Whereas with the first Axel is at odds with Billy and Taggert. That's what makes you want a sequel. When you have good characters but they're just getting to know each other. Sure their friends at the end, but you don't get to experience that next chapter with them. At that's exactly what happens here. Often in sequels the characters will go back to being at odds because writers like "conflict." But not here. What starred as Axel versus Beverly Hills becomes a group buddy cop movie. Absolutely love it.
This movie combined everything great from the first and expanded on it. Very brilliantly made. What also works is this movie has stakes. Bogamil stuck his neck out for Axel and he'll do anything, even lose his job, to return the favor. And even though I remembered the scene with Paul Reiser in the captains office, i still laughed hysterically when the captain says "what are you doing in my office!" And it ended so satisfying.
Most modern movies are made for nitwits. Although this isn't Shakespeare, it's a fun ride with familiar friends. If you're willing to come along you won't be disappointed.
