The Morning Show: Fever (2021)

Good acting but everything else OMG
21 November 2021
The first season was well written and had a good storyline, so I was excited when season 2 popped up on Apple TV. What a gigantic disappointment. S2 is completely different - in a bad way. A story that is all over the place and characters who try hard to be as unlikable as possible. The only saving grace are the excellent actors. Only my opinion of course.

Tired of how this film simplifies the enemy
9 August 2020
I quite enjoyed this film until the first taunts from one of the German U-Boat commanders was received over the radio. That actually never happened for several reasons: it was difficult to broadcast on an enemy radio frequency and more importantly there was a mutual respect between the German and Allied navy crews. The German U-Boat crews were people having to do a job albeit for a monstrous regime. "Das Boot" depicts the life on a German U-Boat during WW2 quite well and at the end of it I felt for the crew and amazingly they weren't mindless Nazi zombies, quite to the contrary.

Typical national German TV quality
10 May 2020
German households have to pay a quarterly TV tax and in return get productions seemingly made for the 70+ generation. Deutscher sounded like it could actually be different: a vision of Germany under a right party rule. What we get is a teenage melodrama with a hip German soundtrack, ridiculous dialogue and every character fulfilling a stereotype. Utter rubbish. Is there no writing talent left in Germany or is it the management of the big national TV firms that are too old or scared to invest in quality productions?

Wanted to like it so much
14 December 2019
Acting great, directing great, screenplay great, but the story didn't push my buttons. Two self absorbed Americans who decide to split up their marriage because they're so unbelievably self absorbed. Child in the middle. And here my sympathy with him/her ended. Perhaps I have a problem with couples who think they have to constantly put their own ego before their child's happiness but so be it. That said there were some amazing scenes that left me breathless: when they both close a gate with their faces just inches apart, and when he sings in front of his theater troupe. Just wow.

Good show ruined by really bad last episode
23 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Very disappointing ending which ruined the whole show for me. The last episode was disappointing for these reasons: How does Budd manage to run away from the crack police services after he disarms the bomb? Why does everyone suddenly have the need to confess and give up the conspiracy? Why does the crime kingpin not disappear after he sees Budd prancing around with a suicide vest all day - surely he must've reckoned that Budd would tell the police of his involvement. How did Budd get into the ex assistant's flat and how does her crime kingpin boyfriend not notice that he's being followed by her car? Why does the crime kingpin go to his police source's home to confront her at the front of her house? Why did Nadia reveal all at the end - she would've probably been released if she would've kept stumm but she brags about being a jihadi engineer who saw an opportunity with Budd when he talked her down from blowing up the train. Somehow she deduced that he could be used to create greater havoc (like killing the home secretary) even though she had no influence over his assignment or anything else. Aaargh!

Magical Misery Tour
23 September 2017
The film is based on a Sven Regener book whom I regard one of the better contemporary authors in Germany. His previous books 'Herr Lehmann' and 'Neue Vahr Süd' where made into a film and a TV mini series respectively and I found them entertaining, intelligent and funny versions of the books. When I heard that Magical Mystery Tour was made into a film I got all excited, bought a ticket and spent two miserable hours watching this piece of cinematic garbage. There are some glimpses of hope, mainly in the beginning, but it doesn't last long. The film loosely follows the book and is made up entirely of stupid dialogue and cringe-worthy situations that fail to be funny. Not a highlight of German cinema.
