The Dame Edna Experience (1987–1989)
The funniest talk show ever
8 February 2004
My local PBS station ran this series several years ago, and I still can't get this riotous program out of my mind. I usually watch the first few minutes of Letterman or Leno, but this is one talk show that I watch to the zany end.

All talk shows have some boring guests, but this will definitely not be tolerated on Dame Edna's show! At the touch of a button, Dame Edna removes any tiresome talker. He or she may fall through a trap door or be removed with an ejection seat. I hope Dave and Jay are listening!

The sets are lovely, except for the private elevator which has trapped several super stars. Dame Edna, as always, is beautifully dressed. My favorite gown is adorned with a large animated stuffed lizard which on command can stick out it's lovely forked tongue. Don't miss this wonderful experience!

Dad's Army (1968–1977)
You Stupid Boy!
10 December 2003
Capt. Mainwaring would frequently utter the above phrase, and then immediately do something much more stupid than young Private Pike could ever accomplish. This is one of the reasons why this colorful program is one of my favorites (pardon my American English spelling).

The scripts are good, but what really make this show brilliant are the great characters and the wonderful actors. It must have been very difficult to get elderly actors to do zany slapstick comedy, but the directors managed to do it beautifully.

The contrast of young and old, and middle class and working class people in perpetual conflict is really great fun to watch. More egos are deflated in this series than ever before, and with hilarious results.

Instead of watching the horrible news accounts of the Iraq War, watch a video tape of Dad's Army. This a very funny remembrance of a much better era.
