Indonesian Evil Dead on LSD.
10 December 2018
Wow this one was hard to digest. And I do not mean cause of gore, but mostly cause of bore.

Difficult movie to watch as it tries more and more with very little, a lot of screaming, blood and twists after twists. It started out nicely indeed but once it fell flat it never recovered. Just laid there and showed more of the same over and over again.

Sadly I can't recommend this, it was really a challenge to watch it till the end. Even for Asian horror, it's a bit too much.

Cheers!

Best thing since Scream!
4 December 2018
Waaait! I don't mean as good as Scream!

But! This one follows the rules of horror, it acknowledges them, it plays by them and also delivers! You see, it has a premise kinda similar to Scream, best and closest movie to do so that I've seen, even tho Cabin in the Woods managed a wonderful approach to this self aware genre, I think YMBtK is even more faithful. It pays homage to plenty of other horrors before it and even one that is my personal favorite but I am not going to ruin it for you guys, yet I am going to point it out just a little and see how many of you get it: When Hanging From A Tree! (soundtrack alone!)

Moving on: Nice acting, great actor picks, very comedically humorous dialogue as Michael Scott might say, and a lovely execution. All in all a MUST see to any horror fans out there, of course, bare in mind this more of a black comedy than pure horror. The death kills are ok, the usual slasher blunt force trauma or plain ol' stabs wrapped around a little mystery.

I didn't have this much fun since Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon .

Cheers!

Critics got it wrong.
18 November 2018
Lets be honest, Boarding School was a nice experience! Had plenty to offer, starting from the surroundings, the mystery, the kids, pretty much everything was very nicely executed.

It was a nice surprise that came out of nowhere so for everyone out there considering to watch it or not, trust me, give it a shot! I had a pleasant time throughout its run time and it managed to surpass its premise as it progressed. Thus of course I am going to recommend it, also it reminded me a little of The Woods 2006 so I guess you could put an eye on that one too.

All in all Boarding School is a great way to watch a psychological horror that manages to intrigue and leave you satisfied.

Cheers!

Partially delivered.
17 November 2018
It had an OK premise with an equal execution but it stretched itself for too long in order to fill the run time. If it was 15 minutes shorter I think it would have looked even better.

The Clovehitch Killer has some gaps, we still have unanswered questions even the making of the movie gets you to wonder why did it presented itself so obvious from the very start, but I guess it was the intention all along in order to complete the circle. Again, I must add that it is very predictable, yet not dull nor slow, it moves accordingly to its genre and it goes out limping sadly.

Room for more? You bet yeah! Guess if you consider its budget we can say its a fair end result. Still I feel a little let down in all honesty.

Cheers!

What a borefest!
4 November 2018
It is quite unexplainable how this movie was ever green lighted. Ignoring the part that it is completely and utterly boring, it has a very weak and linear plot, with pretty much nothing to offer.

I am going to keep this short, same as the movie, and just try to warn anyone out there looking for a horror, drama or even something psychological: All Light Will End - But Not Fast Enough.

Try looking elsewhere, been quite a while since a movie disappointed me so badly. If you're into slow burners try The Dark 2018, Thelma or The Endless.

The Dark (I) (2018)

Definitely Yes!
24 October 2018
Just finished watching and came here to review it. I've noticed that not everybody was impressed with it, perhaps some missed the point or maybe they into a different type of horror. I think The Dark did a great job in showing a rather new perspective of this genre, it was intriguing, well executed and had nice acting attached to it.

You will see the drama in it, that is for sure, but it still stands tall as a horror piece. Just not one that relies on gore, jump scares or torture porn. A story like I've never seen so far, doesn't take its sweet time to build itself up, it dives in and dare I say, it delivers!

All in all, The Dark is an excellent option for anyone that wants to see something different, new and provocative. Highly recommended.

Cheers!

Did OK!
10 September 2018
I was kinda pleasantly surprised with this little gem of a movie that managed to keep me intrigued throughout its entire course. Don't get me wrong, this is no REC, but Italian cinematography did quite alright with The End?

So we can either compare it with Rec, 30 days later or any other zombie horror for that matter, or we can take it for what it is and try to enjoy it. Acting was ok on my part, plot easy to follow-decent and some nice kills here and there, even tho they are simple zombie deaths.

I want to say that it was a nice way to occupy around 90 minutes of my time and if I do find other such productions I'll surely keep an eye on them.

Cheers!

Room for more.
29 August 2018
The Mimic was easy to anticipate and this is its biggest flaw. Had so many options, ways to scare, to intrigue and in the end to switch, yet all it did was being linear.

I would not call it abysmal, definitely not an work of art, I do believe Asian Horror cinema has much better movies out there to recommend, but if you are with some friends and all of you are bored, I guess you can give this one a try. Doesn't bring much new, execution is average, acting is ok but also it comes with all the clichees. I got bored at times, waiting for the finale and sadly that was a complete letdown.

Thus I feel like I should warn any potential viewer, The Mimic is not what you would expect, this being said, in a negative way of course. If you must, just know what to expect. Mostly disappointments.

Cheers!

Noctem (2017)
4/10
Surely not the best Spanish horror.
7 July 2018
Sadly to say, Noctem didn't do it for me. I very much appreciate the Spanish cinema, but they don't do so good on the horror part as they manage to succeed on great thrillers. Of course one might argue that REC1,2 are masterpieces and I would have to agree, but overall they do far better on productions such as Julia's Eyes, Timecrimes, The Orphange and so on.

So, why did Noctem failed? Well first of all, it kinda looks like a mess. It tried to cover many layers at once and I do believe overall it just confused the viewer a lot. It had an idea, a plot yet its execution clearly wasn't the best. For a found footage movie it had a lot to live up to, because we expect something better, different after so many other such movies but this was not the case. We are given an mediocre execution and very few aspects that deliver.

Thus all in all I would not recommend Noctem because it really is one of the weakest Spanish horrors I've seen lately. You can clearly swift in another direction.

Cheers!

Child Eater (2016)

Surely an OK horror.
7 June 2018
Felt kinda fresh in all honesty, I'm just sadden by the fact that it didn't lay some kind of rules down. What is it? Can it be killed? Stopped? Slowed down? Sure, overall we have some data about it, and it does respect all said but I think it could have provided a lot more tension if we had more to work with.

Anyway, without further ado, Child Eater made the best of its budget, plot, actors, had a very good execution for such a production and managed to delivered on some levels. It starts rather fast I might say and goes on to create a good little world for itself.

If only more horrors would try this approach, and not rely so much on gore, blood and ripoff all other movies and genres, like zombies and torture porn in the woods.

Cheers!

Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018 Video)

Deep Blue Sea - Green Screen!
17 April 2018
Wow was this movie bad or what? I for one think it went as a sequel and not a remake, sure, it has plenty of similarities, but there would be close to no point in remaking a movie with a low budget, bad CGI, even weak acting.

So they decided they needed to make yet another Shark movie. With all these indie productions from Asylum and other companies, it is quite hard to make one that will pop-up. And here is where Deep Blue Sea comes into place. The first one, as we all know, was an excellent cheesy fun horror, that delivered plenty!

Part 2 tho, shows nothing new. Some special effects that bow down to those from the original Poltergeist, actors that went too far most of the time, predictable plot and no fun whatsoever! Or scares for that matter. They just went full in with Super Smart Sharks! SSS but no $$$ to support the idea and we are left with an abysmal movie! Such a shame.

Truly, my only regret is the fact that they bonded this one to the original. Deep Blue Sea stands for something!

Cheers!

Delirium (II) (2018)

No No - No No!
12 March 2018
Delirium was one of the most boring experiences I went through lately. A found footage with nothing to show, with a story that takes forever to happen and a slightly better ending than the rest of the plot.

This isn't something I would recommend, it is better to look elsewhere as it has nothing to put on the table. Crumbs, but that's about it. So without going too much into it, the story is weak, acting is so-so for such a production and overall you get bored or annoyed. Depending on your state of mind before starting the movie.

Cheers!

Nightworld (2017)

Quite alright.
6 March 2018
Jason London is one of the more underground actors which I really appreciate and after adding Robert Englund with him well surely enough I wasn't going to miss this movie.

It starts quite normal, as any indie horrors, the known elements, surroundings, that familiar built up. As it progresses, it does manage to create something different, a movie that draws a little more attention than usual, so I was waiting to see what else was there to it. Nightworld had the potential of being great, because it offered a different premise, a plot that dared more and achieved quite a lot too. I think it got the most of its cast, budget and ideas. For a horror fan, this one will do quite alright. If you're not a fan of the genre but you think about laying an eye on it, I strongly suggest something else.

Nightworld is like whiskey. You either like it, or not.

Cheers!

Cold Skin (2017)
8/10
Beautiful!
11 February 2018
Wow! Have I been waiting for long to see something like this. Something different, better, something to entertain and not in that Hollywood style. And I got plenty of just that!

There is no point in trying to explain for too long, trust me when I say, this is one of the best horror movies out there, that don't rely on scares, on violence, but on beauty! From the great surroundings, to the creatures, the fort, everything falls in great. It was one of the best experiences I had in years.

Therefore of course I will highly recommend Cold Skin, because it does nothing more than to intrigue and deliver. And by the end of it, you will even feel the cold!

Cheers!

Entertaining - No horror.
16 January 2018
Hide and Never Seek is a pleasant little movie that managed to bring a good plot, excellent acting and a different point of view. Finally someone that won't take any Asian legend for granted and has the courage to go and investigate.

It won't scare you or anything, it delivers far more humor than it does tension, but you do go along for the ride because it's an interesting one that keeps you guessing. I had fun with it and I think it was a bold and successful way of showing something different.

For fans of Asia horror cinema, I will recommend it because it brings something different to the table. For those seeking jump scares, this is not for you.

Cheers!

Delivered.
7 January 2018
Veronica is indeed as another review stated, an one time watch, but it is worthy of that watch! It doesn't rely on scare jumps, gore, violence, it delivers on the typical Spanish movies level: tension! And a nicely plot with plenty of details.

It was a straight possession horror, with good character development, nice dialogue tho it could have been improved and a better story that didn't come down to loud noises and strong contrast between light and dark. It focused on what it wanted to tell and managed to connect with the viewer. At least it did so with me. I enjoyed Veronica and so I shall recommend it! It does its job and it does it nicely.

Dark Waters (1994)
4/10
Bad!
2 January 2018
Well I see a lot of people appreciate this little film thanks to its Lovecraft touch, others because of its visuals and by that I mean the sight shoots while I for one am completely disappointed in it. After reading so many pro comments I was sure hit jackpot with this one, and after 95 minutes of boredom and confusion I did a 180 turn.

What was so amazing about it? Very slow, bad acting, bad effects, it managed to confuse itself! I read somewhere that this one was film in Ukraine mostly, and the third act of the film was changed at the demand of a Russian team, so the director had to go along with the new conditions and offered a different ending that made little to no sense. I don't wanna use spoilers, so I can't explain exactly what's off with it, but there are many such elements throughout the scrip. Also the audio sounds in Dark Waters are very annoying to say the least and it stretches for too long.

I had a bad experience with it. I will NOT recommend it to any horror fan out there. If you into Italian cinema, specifically horror, watch it at your own peril. You have been warned!

Cheers!

Creep 2 (2017)
8/10
Just got better!
2 January 2018
Well color me impressed and use all the shades because I am one happy viewer! I only discovered Creep half of year ago and decided to watch it, even tho it seemed to be quite low budget and was using a way too shaky camera, but against all odds, I was impressed then and even more now!

Without discussing the first one, skip and get to 2nd base! What a treat of a film! Much more complex, better dialogue, more appropriate and inappropriate humor, even nudity this time, the plot of Creep 2 delivered on more levels. It was a great way of spending just 80 minutes, but after hearing that a 3rd part will be made, I couldn't be happier.

So it is true what you will read about it, this sequel is way better! Recommended and waiting for part 3!

Cheers!

Zombie Strippers FTW!
30 December 2017
Ok, I see this movie attracted a lot of sympathy and I get that. It had some good usage of dark humor, an OK plot, good character development, overall the people involved in the making of this movie did their job right.

Of course it is a low budget horror, so don't expect a masterpiece, it's a zombie movie with some comedy elements blended in, plenty of nudity I'd say, typical deaths on screen and an unexpected ending. In a good way too.

If you dig it, you should definitely try Zombie Strippers, the original stripper zombies, with more dark humor, more blood, nudity and famous actors even porn actresses! That's right! So all in all, if you're fan of the type this one is pretty OK by my standards. Not the biggest admirer out there, so I'll only recommend it for people that know what they're going in!

Cheers!

Unnatural (2015)

Unnatural it is.
10 December 2017
Sorry to say but I will ruin the 4 stars stats of this movie and grade it with 3! There was nothing to see here, except low budget animal/monster horror, with the same plot as always, the most typical moves possible which anyone could anticipate from miles away and the most obvious ending.

James Remar is one of my favorite actors, in my opinion completely under-appreciated, for he has so much to offer. Always doing his best on screen, he is the only reason I watched this abomination. Except him you will see nothing: no nudity, deaths, gore, just a little blood and very few glimpses of the animal itself. Do stay away. Into The Grizzly Maze wasn't the best either, even tho it had Thomas Jane but Backcountry felt more natural. If you wanna point your eye towards something familiar, look there. That's as close as you'll get into seeing something worthy.

Cheers!

Brimstone (2016)
5/10
Excuse for torture porn.
5 December 2017
Now this is going as a personal opinion, nothing more, I don't want to start a debate here, but I am going to explain why and how I saw this movie.

The actors are great, the directing works just fine, the environment looks natural and the story flows nicely. But you see it is labeled as horror, or just thriller even, but does it deliver in such way? Will you get any suspense, intrigue, will you ever hold your breath? No! Most certainly no such thing will occur. What you will get instead are torture and porn in every single chapter of the movie. And it thrives on it, like a wolf in sheep clothes, pretending to be something it is not while it acts almost like a snuff movie. Very disappointing approach the director took here and I'm sadden by the fact that he managed to get away with it.

I noticed it was well received in Europe and surprise surprise, America was the one to point the finger, righteously, as Brimstone will try to shock you with gore, bent values, no morals whatsoever and torture all the way. All the way! You will not believe how low it will sink in order to steal your attention and make you feel something but for the very wrong reasons.

Now here is where you have to pay attention: plenty of folks out there are die hard fans of a very similar movie called Martyrs. These two are somehow different than others like Serbian Film, so don't get the styles confused, but don't think you'll see anything too different either. If Martyrs was the film for you then be prepared to see something perhaps slightly better developed. You could enjoy it.

For me it was a huge disappointment. One or two steps away from Human Centipede. Such movies don't belong on the screen.

Cheers!

So much potential!!
3 December 2017
This movie was so close to perfection! It had an awesome plot, with very good details, good actors&acting, and I simply must pay more praise to the premise!

The story seems familiar at first, then it starts to grow, slowly, it makes its own set of rules, it becomes better as I get more and more intrigued. Even tho it is shorter than your usual only 1h:20 minutes, it gives the impression that it's going to deliver! When the ending does arrive, you'll feel so disappointed!

How could they build such a great atmosphere and not go all the way? It becomes so obvious that you almost want to skip to the end and see if it's going to happen the way you think it will. And its exactly what it does. A lovely little story that no one bothered to finish it properly and we are left hanging there, asking What happened? Is this it? Is there an alternative ending Slumber out there? Cause I want to see that!

This movie goes hand in hand with Before I Wake, another close to masterpiece horror that failed to deliver even tho it managed to have a much better and complex story than what we are given today.

Cheers!

Wind Walkers (2015)

Borefest.
3 December 2017
Many of the After Dark Horrorfest movies are not quite what we would expect. Some are really indie, others have horrible and cliché plots and of course some are complete snoozers.

Sadly, Wind Walkers is a rather boring experience, one that is hard to watch on one single try, and I for one failed it. It took me 3 days to manage to complete it, it was just the perfect movie to fall asleep in front of, only took around 20 minutes and I could barely keep my eyes open. I managed to finish it on my 3rd try by watching it during daytime and even then I had to shake my head a few times.

It is a slow, very slow burning horror, tries to emphasis too much on a state of confusion without delivering anything in the end. Close to no action, a typical movie once you realize what it's all about and has a great gift in offering sleep! I would never recommend it. Sorry.

Cheers!

Surely not the greatest.
2 December 2017
This is a straight forward horror movie that you've seen many, many times before, with all the standard moves, scares, characters and ending.

It brings nothing new, delivers on very few levels, doesn't get you too involved, annoys at times but at least it is not over stretched. A haunted house film like all others, with familiar ghosts and typical reactions leading to the most common finale.

It's down to everyone's personal opinion, I just sat there, watched it and that was all. Didn't do much for me. So watch it at your own peril.

Cheers!

It started here!!
29 November 2017
First of all, I would like to start this by saying I am a big fan of Casper Van Dien. Ever since Starship Troopers, I kept an eye on him and his work. This is to explain why I saw this movie, him and the fact that I'm a huge horror fan. OK, lets dig in:

For a Hallmark production, it's rather hard to do worse than this. From the camera work that relies solely on cut scenes and fade to black, to horrible special effects, some of which inspired Birdemic, to a plot that helped gave life to Asylum productions and over the top acting coming from Jonathan Hyde, everything falls either in laughter or in cringe here.

The first 5 minutes are enough for anyone to make an impression of what will come after. CGI as low as they get, no ration whatsoever, worst decisions taken throughout the film, forced humor and a bad mix of either heart warming emotions or plain ol' cruelty. A mix that didn't work, so a lot of face palming will be required in order to see it completely.

There are 2 endings to this movie, one about the action and one about the aftermath. Don't know which one is worse, a battle that made almost no sense and then closure that seemed as forced as it could be. I was surprised to see that after more than an hour, a To Be Continued appeared, cause it actually got green lighted for 2 parts.

Cheers!
