I watched this show as a kid.I really liked it for the first few seasons, when Derek,J.T. and Freddy were on it.It was much funnier when Ricky was younger and his dad had that train running through the living room.I think the funniest episode was when Ricky owed Derek for saving his life and couldn't find him a date for their party. So Derek makes Ricky dress up as a girl to be his date!It was really funny and Ricky really looked like a girl. Later on as Rick got older and they changed some of the characters on the show it really went down hill.

Hi'-Neighbor!
(1934)
Probably the Best
22 August 2003
Hi'-Neighbor is probably the best rascals short of all.The gang's determination and imagination in building their own fire engine is great!Spanky and Stymies interactions are great!Scotty and Spanky are always good together.Wally is bound and determined to show up Jerry and win Jane back.Everybody likes to see the rich snob get what's coming to them. The scene where Jerry tries to show Jane the gang doesn't have a fire engine is great. He winds up getting his pants ripped off and running away!Only to later be defeated in a race after the gang's brakes, break! This one is hilarious!!!
Free Wheeling
(1932)
Plenty of Excitement

Another of my personal favorites.Free Wheelin' makes you laugh.Stymie is the voices on the taxi-cab radio,as well as the floating power!Spanky shakes down an organ grinder's monkey for cab fare, and Dickie's stiff neck gets cured! All thanks to a wild down hill ride that provides plenty of excitement!Stymie and Spanky are exceptionally good in this one,as they often were.
Choo-Choo!
(1932)
One of the Best

This one is one of the best. With the rascals trading places with some orphans on a train. The Mr.Henderson character is hilarious trying to handle the boys! The scene where he smiles at the women on the train with his hair piece standing up is priceless.Spanky punching him in the nose is funny, but tires quickly.Dorothy contends with Spud pulling her hair,by first almost tearing his out! Then later chasing him out of the car and switching clothes with him!Mr.Henderson mistakingly sends Spud to Dorothy's seat, while shuffling her into his booth. Her mother freaks out after discovering Spud in her daughter's clothes, and blames poor Henderson! From there they wake the entire train with fireworks, and animals they let loose! There's also a cameo by Oliver Hardy.
The First Seven Years
(1930)
Goodhearted Fun!

In Jackie's fifth outing as a rascal,he's in love and wants Mary Ann to be his girl.He must first endure Wheezer's teasing, seeing the other kids with their "wives",and bad advice from Kennedy the cop. After Kennedy tells him to be a caveman,Jackie tells Mary Ann she's his girl and that's that!Only to have her throw him to the ground and clobber him good!Later as the smooth Speck tries to move in,Mary convinces them to duel for her!The duel scenes are funny and the neighborhood laundry takes a beating!Jackie becomes the hero by throwing down his sword and defeating Speck with his fists! When Speck's father gets involved,Jackie's granny takes care of him!Proving, that while Jackie maybe the new boss of the neighborhood, the guys definitely shouldn't tangle with Mary Ann or Granny!Goodhearted fun!
Lazy Days
(1929)
A Real Let Down
22 August 2003
This film is truly lazy.Very drawn out and lethargic. The story is dull and not funny.Who would have believed the rotund Chubby was actually a baby?Seeing Farina's baby brother cry continually seems cruel. Not to mention Mary Ann and Jean dressing Wheezer up as a baby against his will!Only to have the end never see the baby contest happen.A real let down.
Boxing Gloves
(1929)
Entertaining and Funny
22 August 2003
This is one of my favorites!Very funny.Joe and Chubby are at odds over the lovely Jean. They won't fight because:Joe can't get mad enough, and Chubby is a scared!Of course fight promoter Farina convinces each one that the other will throw the fight! At that time women weren't allowed at boxing matches,so poor Mary Ann is refused admittance and resorts to a few failed attempts, before finally sneaking in.I read that this was Jackie Cooper's debut with the gang, and it was an auspicious one.His big contribution was to be dragged from ringside by Mary Ann,only to have her take his place dressed in his clothes! Still it's entertaining and the fight scenes are very funny!
