Dune (2021)

It was too short !!!!

Wow, I had not seen something like this for a long time. Amazing esthetic. Villeneuve is these days to the cinema what Steve Jobs was to the tech industry. A visionnaire who can ensure his vision is carefully crafted and delivered. Hope you'll enjoy this movie as much as I did.

We are Venom

Here is a movie where the trailers set the right expectation. It's clearly not the movie of the year but far from the worst. If you were convinced by the teasers then go for it. It's entertaining and funny. Tom Hardy is carrying a lot on his shoulders and it works! Definitely worth paying to watch on the big screen.

Maniac (2018)

Colors of a futuristic past
8 October 2018
If Kubrick, Gilliam, Cronenberg, Lynch were in a room brainstorming about TV miniseries, Maniac could probably be one of their prioritized ideas. The True Detective season one director Cary Joji Fukunaga creates an amazing atmosphere like no other. Many friends could not pass the first episode which clearly defines where your imagination is about to travel. From my point of view, Maniac's greatest achievement is in its interaction. It changes so many codes, bringing you along a journey you had not planned for. Again, this journey is clearly not for everyone. It is a strange universe, where the past is yet to be discovered. Prepare for a reset!

The Predator (2018)

Made for TV

The basic movie you can wait to see in your leaving room when it will be available on one of your streaming subscriptions or else. If you see what I mean. It's not completely bad. There are few jokes here and there. But don't hold your breath.

Kin (I) (2018)

I went with the second ;)
16 September 2018
Born in the 80s, I grew up with the classical must see Sci-fi (Metropolis, 2001, Blade Runner...). These past few years, I have been witnessing a lack of innovation in the genre. It's rare to see a fresh new idea such as Gattaca or more recently Arrival. The bad reviews intrigued me. They were either really bad, or very good. As if something either disappointed or surprised. I went with the second. It's great to see that there are some folks out there who can still create something which will interact with your imagination. Kin reinforces the basic theory that the "less is more", especially for this genre. Using dark modes, focussing on the characters performances, being meticulous with the soundtrack. All the ingredients which you can't trade for better SFX, CGI. So if you are the "kin" of person who's been thirsty for something creative in this space, then go watch Kin.

Electric Dreams (2017–2018)

Unfortunately it's just below average

So much expectation in this new show. Many great performers, great directors and descent special effects. But except maybe for Real Life, each episode is a disappointment. And for each of them I wonder how the script could go so wrong. It's almost if they had to rush everything to come up with a new show. I really wonder if this was not a way for Amazon to compete with "not perfect" but great Netflix show Black Mirror. I'm not saying you should not watch it. But maybe don't give it too much hope ;)
