Beruseruku (2016)
An insulting adaptation
As a long-time fan of the 'Berserk' manga, I approached the 2016 series with high hopes and expectations. Unfortunately, the series falls short in capturing the essence and depth of its source material, primarily due to its subpar 3D animation. The original 'Berserk' manga, known for its intricate and expressive art style, is a masterpiece that set high standards for dark fantasy storytelling. However, this adaptation's use of 3D animation feels like a disservice to the manga's artistic legacy.
The animation lacks the detail and texture that made the manga visually striking. Instead, it presents a clunky and rigid visual experience that fails to convey the intense and gritty atmosphere of the 'Berserk' world. The characters, who are rich and complex in the manga, lose their depth and appear lifeless, undermining the emotional impact of the story. This stylistic choice not only detracts from the narrative's immersive experience but also fails to do justice to the intricate character designs and dynamic action sequences that are a hallmark of the series.
Furthermore, the series struggles with pacing and narrative cohesion, making it difficult for both newcomers and fans to stay engaged. The transition from traditional 2D to 3D animation has not been smooth, with many crucial scenes losing their impact due to awkward animation and lackluster direction.
In conclusion, the 2016 'Berserk' series is a missed opportunity to revitalize a beloved franchise. It strays too far from the source material's artistic roots, resulting in a product that neither captures the essence of the original manga nor stands on its own as a compelling adaptation. For fans of the manga, this series may be more of a frustration than a tribute to the world of 'Berserk',
Battle Kitty (2022)
this is so refreshing.
I watched the whole thing with my 5 y/o and I absolutely loved everything from the writing to the animation. It'd sooo funny and so well done. It also sets an excellent example on inclusivity without making a fuzz out of it.
Midsommar (2019)
Amazing cinematography on a bad movie.
Honestly if it wasn't for how pretty it is I would give it a 1. What a waste of time. Should have read the reviews before I sat for this.
