I felt disgusted the entire time
17 January 2020
I got angry watching this. Like really angry. I know it's a piece. But I felt disgusted the entire time. I felt really mad at the protagonists, actors, producers, directors, everyone involved really. Because it's the kind of piece that shouldn't have existed but does in a free society. Still it shouldn't have gotten this much attention. The movie continuously promotes and incentives inhumane practices of money extortion and larceny, like drugging, blackmailing, forgery, racketeering and it does all that whilst still laughing at victims. We're all used to that, but the keyword you should focus is inhumane. The way it presents the action it's as if it's the right way and it never shows the other side of the story nor the consequences of atrocities. It's full of crocodile tears. It's almost dystopic but only in principle. It gives extraordinary value to falsehood in discomforting levels. One thing they got right was the soundtracks, I Shazamed like 10 songs the entire movie but even that prevented me from giving it the lowest score. I can confidently say it's one of the worst pieces I have ever saw in my entire life. It is filthy from top to bottom, just very very sad and depressing the way it was portrayed. The problem is not the story, because people like that do exist in IRL. The problem is that the entire film continuously glorifies and promotes those behaviors.

no cohesion between scenes

Overall 1 star out of 5. complete waste of time.
Acting is poor, soundtrack is poor, jokes aren't funny, editing continuity is terrible, Verisimilitude is absent, plot shows profound signs of scientific illiteracy throughout its entirety, SFX is bad, VFX is good, subliminar message is cool.

I can't stop laughing.. it's so funny
15 January 2019
Oh man.. this show has a special place in my heart. Up until season 8 everything was all roses and flowers. So we're going to focus on that. I feel like it won't age for many decades to come. What I most like about is its rapid fire rate of jokes. Each episode has many many many jokes. So much so that my jaw hurts after watching it continuously for a while.. simply because it's so damn funny.. like I can't stop laughing at it. And that's why I love it. I love the characters. The stage. The music. The plot. I love it all. To me this is a genuine masterpiece

Ingeniously stupid
19 December 2018
Good acting, horrible storyline, nice soundtrack, interesting shooting locations, genuine presentation.. if you keep an open mind it can be actually quite funny the English humor, coming from an American. I was disappointed in discovering it has zero sex scenes and I rooted for one until the very last scene. Overall, It's definitely not a must watch, but ends up getting a pass due to its ingenious way to present stupidity.

doesn't respect science
13 December 2018
I didn't know it was a soap opera until someone explained to me what a soap opera is, and then, everything made sense, even why it sucked so bad.
It's a good concept, but the execution is a disaster because it is a soap opera. Skeptics will hate it, simpletons will love it. There are numerous inconsistencies that don't line up with the understanding of science at the time of publishing, depicted progressively, each inconsistency adds up to a big salad of fiasco. I can say with full confidence this isn't a sci-fi show, it's actually fiction show. That alone should steer viewers away.
As in all soap operas, the storyline is awful. I watched the whole lot, including extras episodes and extended scenes. Ideally, an excellent story-tale would be one that strikes a good balance between character development and plot continuity. This one unfortunately miserably fails in achieving the latter. It gets lost in the middle, many many many times with countless filler episodes. It talks a lot about religion, but in a very unevolved way which is shockingly incoherent given that the subject is an advanced civilization. The show tirelessly mixes religion with science in levels that are deeply hipocrate and so immature that it hurts the brain just to watch. But then again, it's a soap opera.
Viewers like me, who didn't know it was a soap opera, go into it expecting a visionary story, instead they get current technology and current day-to-day problems, so it isn't a story of the future, only technically, but not truly. The lack of vision is baffling, having watched it till the end, I felt very disrespected due to the profound lack of coherence in multiple fronts. Scientific front, psychological front, political, military, you name it. It's totally nuts, mentally disturbing.
Dialogues are dull and superficial. Characters abruptly change who they are instead of smoothly transgressing, which illustrates just how badly written it is. They even invented a word to replace the cursive F word in the middle of the dialogues, which strikes my nerve every single time it comes up. The invention of this word has catastrophically ruined the experience of immersion throughout the whole series, I can't stress this enough. It would have been better to use the conventional F word or to simply not curse at all.
Overall it's below mediocre, it assumes the viewer isn't well educated and it doesn't respect science at all which are both extremely disappointing decisions of leadership.

Humanization overdone. Skip it.
11 December 2018
It humanizes animals in ways too absurd, they cry, they smile, they get sad, they have laws and rules, the level of unrealism is unnecessary and rather shameful. Especially because the target demographic is still learning about the ways of life, and it could be said that by watching this piece they would actually learn it the wrong way. So from a parent POV it's a disservice. Plus, it's a fantasy too unreal for a human adult to be entertained and appreciate it. It has multiple conflicts of storytelling within itself, for example only select animals are humanized, others aren't, so what's up with that? I hate movies that pretend the viewer isn't clever enough to ask relevant questions that convey the narrative, since they pretend the questions don't exist, that means they never bother to answer them. The dialogues are full of emotional appealing tries, but it ends up just being vague and empty phrases that cannot conceive thruthfulness because it's too disconnected from reality. The OST isn't remarkable, nothing to be remembered of. I can easily say skip this one if you're older than 8.

Empty. fake. cliché.

Don't lose your time. don't even read this review. it's not worth your time. just skip the whole movie entirely.
the only good parts are when Awkwafina show up on the screen cause she's supper funny, which is like 5 minutes total. Or when Gemma Chanis is the main character of the scene, she is so gorgeous, she will make your mouth water just of pure desire to have her and lick her, which is like another 5 minutes.
the rest 100 minutes are tedious. A couple of beautiful song tracks here but despite being beautiful they don't match the storyline. Because the songs are profound and meaningful whilst the scenes are superficial and disposable. The acting cast is cold and empty. There's zero character development. The story itself is completely doubtful cause nobody would be dumb enough. The whole thing is awfully incoherent.
it is sooo boring!!! It would have been a great piece in the 70s or 80s, albeit for today standards it is for sure one of the worst launches of the year. It just shows how behind the chinese market is in terms of culture and social development as a whole. This movie piece screams stupidness from the start till the end. To someone who is just a tiny bit skeptical, watching this may be considered an abominable form of torture.

it's a bad movie, but a good peace. so go see it in the theaters! don't watch the movie.

First of all, this is one of those love it or hate it. And yes, I hated it.
There's nothing wrong with the plot. Excellent actors, mind you. And the subliminal message is something to reflect upon too. The edit was fine. But the complements stop there.
There's a huge lack of musics and soundtrack. And most importantly there's the lack of scenery. I had to try so hard to imagine the context of the story that I felt tired in the end, most of the time I felt disconnected and despite my effort I couldn't immerge into the story.
This movie is lacking fundamental aspects that define the word movie. So in a sense it isn't a movie, it's only kind of a movie, but really, really? It's a filmed theater piece, but they forgot to format it using traditional mechanisms. If can't grasp that, try this: if this movie was a book, it would be a video with photographs of the pages, so you would have to read the book in your TV. Now imagine how fun would that be.
This movie is incomplete, it's missing visual expression. In fact that is the exact reason it became famous, people say it is the result of an act of bravery that defies the standard. Well, I would agree, but that is a hoax, yes, a hoax. Whilst reading about it, I discovered it is actually a theater piece. So the poor ignorant souls who don't know this fact end up calling it a revolutionary cinema art. And right then I understood why I hated it. It's because it is not an act of bravery, but an act of deliberate laziness.
It takes real talent to direct and transport a viewer using a screen to the other side of the screen. Everyone knows It is extremely hard to port stories into cinema, but this one fails miserably because it doesn't even try. This is literally, a theater peace filmed with fancy angles and it catches you with your pants down because this information is not disclosed nor advertised. Well, If I wanted to see a peace directly from the theater I would have gone to the theater, feel me? I tell you, I would have probably loved it. But on a screen it sucks! It was extremely unpleasant to have to watch it till the end.
It's a bad movie, but a good live peace. So go see the peace in a proper theater! Don't watch the movie!

the importance of a reboot
28 September 2018
I think most people don't recognize the value of rebooting the operational system of any electronic device. Films like this aren't to tell a tale, because everyone already knows the tale. Films like this serve to tell stories of life and subliminal messages. The billionaire will rebuild meaning you should never let anyone destroy your dreams. The roll of being a father means you should always protect your family, no matter the stakes. Soldiers who end-up losing almost their entire elite squad can, through love, find the willpower to overcome moments of disgrace. These are all very powerful messages.
The butterfly effect, this film is all about the meaning of actions and their ripples. The story is there just to entertain you, but you should actually reflect about is the subliminal messages.
PS: Always remember to reboot the OS of your electronic devices before requesting assistance. Repeat after me: I promise to always reboot my OS before requesting tech support.

boring, weird, and most importantly, incoherent
22 June 2018
The pace is too slow. Goes around and around too much without being simple and direct, there's no emphasis. Main characters are not charismatic and completely disposable. Too many filler scenes. Not emotional, I'm a sensitive guy, I tried hard to feel something, I felt nothing, it's just a cluster-crap, complete crazy. And one more thing, it's boooooring!
people who claim to understand this piece are probably as delusional as the piece itself.
