Paranoia and Madness
21 October 2018
When his wife leaves him during a tour, the rock star Pink Floyd (Bob Geldof) becomes paranoid and mad, building a wall between the world in his mind and the real world. The process has begun when he was a child and loses his father in the war, missing him. His overprotective mother and the repressive education at school help to build the insanity process. Now he becomes a violent dictator and goes on trial in his mind, and tries to destroy the wall he built.

"The Wall" is a depressive and touching film by Roger Waters from The Pink Floyd and directed by Alan Parker. The screenplay is fantastic and each time the viewer sees this film, he or she will certainly discover new details that have not paid attention. The cast is excellent, highlighting the presence of the cult-actress Jenny Wright in the role of a groupie. The outstanding music score by Pink Floyd completes this masterpiece. My vote is ten.

Messy and Flawed
21 October 2018
When three terrorists explodes a supermarket in America, the American government believes the responsible were the Mexican cartels smuggling terrorists to America. They decide to begin a war among the cartels and an unofficial command is assigned to kidnap the daughter of a kingpin and release her in the land of another cartel. However, when the government discovers that the responsible for the terrorist attack were American citizens from New Jersey, they decide to abort the plan and kill the girl. But things go wrong and do not happen as planned.

"Sicario: Day of the Soldado" is a messy and flawed film with great action scenes. There are so many plot holes that make no sense unless the viewer is brainless. The stupid beginning is absolutely pointless. The terrorist attack to the supermarket is an excellent scene, but the attitude of the mother heading with her child toward the last terrorist in the opposite direction people are running is senseless. The scene of Isabel Reyes fighting at school is another pointless scene. Why the Mexican police officers in the seven cars that joined the three American cars start shooting the American team? Why Alejandro risks his life to save the annoying girl? How can the teenager recognize a man that he glanced at in a car for a few seconds in the parking area of a supermarket in Texas? Why take Isabel to the witness protection program? How Alejandro crossed the border and was hospitalized? There are so many other questions about this flick that would take lots of time to write. My vote is five.

Strange but Holds the Attention
21 October 2018
"Painless" is a strange drama about a lonely young scientist with a rare disease that makes him feel no physical pain. He researches the cure and is supported by his physician that treats him since he was a child. He is afraid of hurting himself since he is painless. The only twist in the storyline is when he feels attracted by a young woman he meets in the subway and when an ambitious unethical scientist proposes to help him. Although developed in slow pace and with few things happening, "Painless" has details and in the end holds the attention of the viewer. My vote is six.

Silly Filler Episode
21 October 2018
When Jack arrives home, a stranger breaks in his house and points a gun to him, claiming that he destroyed his life. He explains that he is a barber and family man. Seven years ago, he bought a black stone in a garage sale and from this moment on, he was connected to Jack, following the adventures of the SG-1. But a couple of years later, his life turned upside-down and his wife is asking the divorce.

"Citizen Joe" is one of the silliest filler episode along the series. The story is awful and uses footage from previous episodes. The conclusion is terrible. My vote is five.

The Gallows and The Bridge
21 October 2018
Maggie sentence Gregory to the gallows and Earl to be imprisoned. Meanwhile the four communities work to restore the bridge to facilitate trade. The Sanctuary is a former factory and is facing difficulties to plant seed since the soil is very poor and there is a beginning of rebellion. Some former Saviors are going missing and the group is scary since they do not have weapons for self-protection.

"The Bridge" is a good episode of ""The Walking Dead", but it is hard to see Gregory hanged while Rick keeps Negan alive eating and not producing in a period of shortage. The fate of Aaron is sad and where is Morgan? Still in the landfill? My vote is eight.

Alexandria, The Kingdom, Hilltop and The Sanctuary are living peacefully in the post-apocalyptical world. Rick and a group goes to Washington to scavenge seeds, a wagon and tools in a museum but when they are returning, the young Ken is attacked by a walker and dies. His parents blame Maggie for the death of his beloved son and Gregory manipulates the old couple.

"A New Beginning" is the beginning of a new season with the communities with no external enemies. This time, the enemy seem to be the friction between and within the communities, with Gregory trying to overthrow Maggie. My vote is seven.

When her addicted sister is hospitalized victim of drugs, the nurse Coffy (Pam Grier) seeks revenge and kills the drug dealer. "Coffy" is another Blaxploitation film from the 70´s. Pam Grier performs the black vigilante Coffy in an attempt to turn her into an action actress. The flawed story is entertaining and full of action. My vote is six.

One of the Best Zombie Films ever Made
17 October 2018
The investment manager Seok Woo (Yoo Gong) is a divorced man that lives in Seoul, with his daughter a Soo-an (Soo-an Kim) and his mother. Seok Woo is a selfish man and neglects Soo-an that misses her mother that lives in Busan. On Soo-an's birthday, she asks to visit her mother and Seok Woo travels with her with the intention of returning to work after lunch. They board the fast train KTX and a sick woman also boards another wagon. During the journey, the woman attacks a train staff and soon all the passenger in the wagon are attackedand infected, turning into zombies. Soon Seok Woo realizes that there is a zombie outbreak in South Korea and together with the passenger Sang Hwa (Dong-seok Ma), who is traveling with his pregnant wife Sung Gyeong (Yu-mi Jeong), they isolate the safe front wagons from the infected ones. Along their journey, the non-infected passengers have to fight the zombies and the selfishness of the human being.

"Busanhaeng", a.k.a. "Train to Busan", is one of the best zombie films ever made. The story is original and there is deep character development, which is not usual in horror movies, showing the different behavior of the human being in a stressful situation depending on his or her character (or lack of). The direction is amazing and the action scenes are fantastic. The screenplay is melodramatic but also attractive; the beautiful cinematography and special effects and make-up are highlighted by the perfect edition. The cast has good performance but the girl Soo-an Kim is impressive and steals the show. We hope Hollywood industry does not destroy this little gem with the usual remakes. My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Invasão Zumbi" ("Zombie Invasion")

Friendship, Love and Rivalry
16 October 2018
In 1956, in Nelsonville, Ohio, the clumsy teenager Jonathan Bellah (Doug McKeon) dreams on getting into the pants of the hot school mate Marilyn McCauley (Kelly Preston). However he is shy and has no experience with girls. When the handsome and rebel Gene Harbrough (Chris Nash) moves with his father to the house next door, he immediately befriends Jonathan and decides to teach him how to be attractive to women. Then he has a minor accident with his motorcycle when the car driven by the wealthy Kenny (D.W. Brown) almost hit him. Gen has a crush on Kenny´s girlfriend Bunny Miller (Catherine Mary Stewart). Later Jonathan and Gene go to a fair and meet Marilyn, Bunny and their mate Rosalie (Jami Gertz). They schedule a date to the drive-in but when Kenny sees Bunny, he challenges Gene to a car race in the beginning of their rivalry and contest. Meanwhile Jonathan gets closer to Marilyn.

"Mischief" is another gem from the 80´s, with a story of friendship, love and rivalry. Gene is a nice character, Bunny is sweet, Marilyn is hot, Kenny is the villain and the clumsy Jonathan is very funny, but his dream comes true. This film is a classic and the viewer never gets tired seeing it again every now and then. My vote is seven.

Overrated Romantic-Comedy
15 October 2018
The unambitious teenager Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) has a crush on the gorgeous bookworm Diane Court (Ione Skye) and decides to invite her to date him in the high-school graduation party and she accepts. Lloyd is living with his sister Constance and has no plan for his future. The objective Diane lives with her father James Court (John Mahoney), who is the owner of a retirement home, and has just received a scholarship from a British college. Soon they fall in love with each other but James is investigated by the IRS agents and convinces Diane to break up with Lloyd and travel to England.

'Say Anything..." is an overrated romantic-comedy, with a reasonable romance. The subplot with Lily Taylor is silly and forgotten. The unethical situation of James Court is shallow. However, the music score is fantastic and worthwhile listening. My vote is five.

15 October 2018
Jack is surprised by Kinsey in the room of his apartment, and the former vice-president discloses that the Trust is planning to convince the Russian government to request their Stargate back. There is a serious crisis between the Russian and the American governments and Jack sends Daniel to Russia and Teal´c to Prometheus, while he stays at the SGC with Sam and the Russian Colonel Chekov trying to resolve the friction between their governments.

"Full Alert" is a full of action episode of "Stargate SG-1" with a good and tense story. The plot in the end is well-resolved but now the SGC needs to take care to see if there is any Goa´uld in their base. My vote is eight.

Weird Violent Mess
15 October 2018
"Apostle" is an overrated violent film where the viewer expects more explanation along the weird story, but out of the blue the movie ends. The plot begins without any character development and the time and place are not defined (maybe in the beginning of the Twentieth Century). In the first scene, the viewer learns that a wealthy woman has been kidnapped and taken to an island by a dangerous sect that wants ransom to release her. Her brother decides to travel to the island and infiltrate in the sect to find whether she is alive or not. Dan Stevens performs the brother that is a sort of anti-hero, being beaten and wounded in every confrontation. He is seriously wounded protecting the leader of the sect without any explanation. The funny thing is that immediately after he swims in sewage looking for his sister and without any infection in the wound. The twist is a being arrested in a cabin that the messy screenplay throws on the screen without any explanation. There are free violence along the story and the conclusion is also awful. Is NETFLIX using robots to promote this flick? My vote is four.

"Overboard" is another jewel from the 80´s, maybe the best decade to comedies and romantic comedies. Directed by Gary Marshall, this romantic comedy has Goldie Hawn stealing the movie and showing awesome chemistry with her partner Kurt Russell. My vote is seven.

Further, he knew that the Goa'uld would come but the prophecies say that they will be saved by the SG-1.

Betraying The Mafia
11 October 2018
In Harlem, two Italian mobsters meet three black gangsters that work to the kingpin Doc Johnson (Richard Ward) to collect dirty money from their associates in an apartment building. Out of the blue, the smalltime thieves Jim Harris (Paul Benjamin) and Joe Logart (Ed Bernard) knock on the door disguised as police officers to steal US$ 300,000.00 from the Mafia. However, they startle when the suitcase with the money falls on the floor and Jim kills the five men with a machine gun. They flee to the runaway car driven by Henry J. Jackson (Antonio Fargas) and they kill two policemen. The idealist NYPD Lt. Pope (Yaphet Kotto) and the violent Capt. Mattelli (Anthony Quinn) investigate the case while the Italian Mafia and the black gangsters hunt the killers down. Will Jim Harris and his accomplices be found?

"Across 110th Street" is a great action-crime-Blaxploitation film from the 70´s. The realistic plot would be politically incorrect in the present days but reflects life in those years. The performances and the art direction are magnificent, with tacky, dirty and ugly locations and costumes. My vote is seven. Title (Brazil): "A Máfia Nunca Perdoa" ("The Mafia Never Forgives")

Surprisingly Good
9 October 2018
After the traumatic separation of her boyfriend Cole (Ben Robson), the American Greta Evans (Lauren Cohan) flees to London. She is hired by Mrs. Heelshire (Diana Hardcastle) and Mr. Heelshire (Jim Norton) to be the nanny of their beloved son Brahms. Greta travels to an old and isolated manor in the countryside and is welcomed by the old couple. She receives rules to be followed and when she is introduced to Brahms, she realizes that he is a doll. Soon Mr. and Mrs. Heelshire travel on vacation and Greta befriends the delivery boy Malcolm (Rupert Evans). When she decides to give no attention to the doll, weird things happen and Greta believes there is a spirit trapped in the doll. Is she losing her sanity?

"The Boy" is a good surprise of the horror genre. The Brazilian title induces the viewer to believe that "The Boy" would be a rip-off Chucky, but it is not. Despite the flawed story that does not explains how the eight year-boy Brahms has survived and grow-up alone, the film entertains. Last but not the least, it is always great to see Lauren "Maggie" Cohan on the screen. My vote is seven.

Eerie and Spooky
8 October 2018
After the completion of his master's degree, Peter Kleist (Antonio Cantafora) travels to Austria to spend a leisure period doing nothing. He is welcomed in the airport by his uncle Dr. Karl Hummel (Massimo Girotti) and he asks if he could visit the castle of his ancestor, the evil Baron Otto von Kleist a.k.a. Baron Blood. In the Sixteenth Century, the sadistic baron was cursed by a witch Elisabeth Holle that he had burned at the stake and then he was killed by the locals in his Castle of Death. Peter meets the gorgeous Eva Arnold (Elke Sommer) that works restoring the castle and invites her to go with him to the castle after dinner to read an incantation written in an ancient parchment that would evoke the family course and bring the Baron back to life. After reading the magic words, the wind blows the parchment to the fireplace and it burns. When villagers mysterious disappear and Eva is chased by a weird man, they realize that they have released the Baron and they do not have the parchment anymore to call the incantation off. Their hope is that the clairvoyant and medium Christina Hoffmann (Rada Rassimov), who is a descendant of Elisabeth, might help them.

"Baron Blood" is another eerie and spooky movie by Mario Bava. The uncanny story of curse, witchcraft and resurrection is very well supported by the predictable screenplay that works well, but the stylish cinematography, the lighting and shadows and the camera work with unusual angle are impressive and give a creepy and nightmarish atmosphere to the feature. My vote is seven.

Three Scary Tales of Horror
8 October 2018
Boris Karloff is the host of three scary tales of terror: In the Italian version, the sequence is the following: 1) "Il Telefono" / "O Telefone" ("The Telephone"): Rosy (Michèlle Mercier) receives several phone calls threatening her life. She believes her former lover, who has just escaped from prison, is the man that is calling her. She denounced his crimes some time ago and he was convicted and imprisoned. She calls her lesbian girlfriend Mary (Lidia Alfonsi) to stay with her during the night. Soon a secret is disclosed and a tragedy happens in the middle of the night. In the ridiculous American version, Frank is a ghost and not a fugitive, destroying the tension. My vote is seven.

2) "I Wurdulak" / "O Wurdulak" ("The Wurdulak"): The young Vladimire d'Urfe (Mark Damon) is riding a horse in the night and finds a man stabbed on the back. He withdraws the dagger from the man and finds a house close to the place where he found the body. There, he meets a family composed of two brothers, one sister, one sister-in-law and one nephew, and he falls in love at first sight with the beautiful Sdenka (Susie Andersen). He realizes that the dead man was a criminal, probably killed by the head of the family Gorca (Boris Karloff), and he is advised to leave that place, if Gorca does not arrive until midnight. The family informs that there is a chance that Gorca might have been transformed in a Wurdulak, a kind of vampire who drains blood from the living persons. A few seconds after midnight, Gorca comes back home, and the afraid family does not know whether he was transformed or not. The family will discover later what happened in a tragic way. In the American version, there are modifications and the scene that Gorca takes a head from his bag is cut. My vote is nine.

3) "La Goccia d' Acqua" / "A Gota d' Água" ("The Drop of Water") The nurse Helen Chester (Jacqueline Pierreux) is summoned to prepare the body of a countess for her funeral. She steals the worthy ring from her finger. The countess comes back from beyond to retrieve her ring, scaring the frightened greedy woman. There are few modifications in the American version. My vote is eight.

These three tales are excellent. With the direction of Mario Bava, this film explores themes related to fear, anxiety, greedy and guilty in a splendid scary way. Unfortunately the American version is terrible compared to the Italian version. My vote is eight.

The Eternal Youth
7 October 2018
When four young women are found in Paris with the blood completely drained, the ambitious and snoopy journalist Pierre Lantin (Dario Michaelis) decides to investigate the cases of the killer known as The Vampire. Inspector Chantal (Carlo D'Angelo) does not approve Lantin´s behavior. Meanwhile Pierre avoids the harassment of Giselle du Grand (Gianna Maria Canale), who is the niece of the wealthy matriarch of the family Margherita du Grand.

"I vampire" is a great Italian horror film with a story of the search for the eternal youth. The film was directed by Riccardo Freda, who left the production that was concluded by Mario Bava (uncredited). The beauty of Gianna Maria Canale is impressive more than sixty years later. My vote is seven.

"Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" is a different romantic comedy, supported by a great cast with Frances McDormand and Amy Adams, beautiful costumes and sets and magnificent music score from the 40´s. The plot is well-resolved and the film is entertaining. My vote is six.

They are welcomed by Liza and soon Nastya sees weird things in the old house. She seeks out Vanya but Liza informs that he has gone to the town with his friends. What will Nastya do?

"Nevesta" is a creepy underrated Russian horror film about family tradition and dark secrets.
