My hobby is watching and collecting movies on VHS and DVD. On 17 June 2003, I found the IMDB site through an indication of a friend. My first review was "Anazapta" and since then, when I finish watching a movie, I write my personal opinion about it.
I am eclectic, but my genre number 1 is horror. I see between 800 and 900 movies per year, including TV series ("Sex and the City", "Angel", "Buffy", "Six Feet Under", "Lost" etc.).
My favorite movie is "Casablanca" and it is hard to point out my favorite director, actor and actress. I usually do not read any review before seeing a movie, in order to be not influenced by the critics.
I am trying to list my favorite movies alphabetically ordered, but this list may change:

Stargate SG-1: Moebius: Part 2 (2005)
Do not Think and You May Enjoy the Conclusion
"Moebius: Part 2" is the conclusion of the last and promising episode. The story has many flaws but if the viewer does not think, he or she may enjoy this episode. There are so many plot holes that it is impossible to make any comment without spoiler. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Moebius: Part 2"
Stargate SG-1: Moebius: Part 1 (2005)
Daniel inherits Catherine Langford´s collection after her death and he finds that Ra had a ZPM five-thousand years ago. Sam decides to use the time machine and go with Jack, Daniel and Teal´c to 3000 BC to steal the ZPM from Ra. However something happens and changes the timeline affecting the present days. What will happen next?
"Moebius: Part 1" is a promising beginning of an interesting story divided in two parts. It is funny and highly entertaining. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Moebius: Part 1"
Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)
Tragic and Cult
Prologue: a driver has a big surprise with his passenger (8)
Segment 1 ("Time Out"): a bigot man hates Jews, Black and Asian people. One day he will live in the World War II, hunted down by KKK and attacked in Vietnam War and feel the effects of his hatred. Good episode with a surprising conclusion (7).
Segment 2 ("Kick the Can"): In a nursing home, the elder inhabitants learn that their minds can keep them young. Reasonable episode only (6).
Segment 3 ("It´s a Good Life"): a traveler hits a boy in a bicycle with her car and takes the boy home. Soon she learns that the powerful boy brought her home indeed. Good episode with a silly and disappointing conclusion (7).
Segment 4 ("Nightmare at 20,000 feet"): a writer is scary to fly and soon he sees a monstrous creature destroying the airplane engines during a stormy night. Certainly the best episode (8).
Divided in prologue and four segments, "Twilight Zone: The Movie" is a tragic and cult movie. Tragic since Vic Morrow, the unforgettable Sgt. Saunders of "Combat!" series, died in a weird accident when the helicopter crashed on him and two children while making a scene. Directed by four great directors - Joe Dante (segment "It's a Good Life"); John Landis (prologue/segment "Time Out"); George Miller (segment "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet"); and Steven Spielberg (segment "Kick the Can") - and with great names in the cast - Vic Morrow, Dan Aykroyd, Albert Brooks, Kathleen Quinlan, John Lithgow among many others, "Twilight Zone: The Movie" is highly recommended for fans of sci-fi and horror. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "No Limite da Realidade" ("In the Limit of Reality")
Triple Frontier (2019)
Another Overrated Production by Netflix
"Triple Frontier" is another overrated production by Netflix. The story of greed is lame and insinuates but never tells the country where the drug pin is hidden. The conclusion is stupid, considering that Ben Affleck´s character is separated from his wife. Further, the guys risk their lives to steal the powerful drug dealer, but are incapable to plan to retrieve the money left behind in the Andes. Netflix as usual prefers to invest in marketing instead of in a better quality of their productions, with better stories and screenplays. My vote is five.
Title (Brazil): "Operação Fronteira" ("Frontier Operation")
Just One of the Guys (1985)
Another Delightful Comedy from the 80´s
The teenager Terry Griffith (Joyce Hyser) is an aspiring journalist that believes she was discriminated by her teacher in the high-school in a competition for an internship in a local newspaper because she is a girl. She decides to disguise and pose as a boy in another high-school to see if she gets the internship. Her brother Buddy Griffith (Billy Jacoby) and her best friend Denise (Toni Hudson) help her and she hides the situation from her boyfriend Kevin (Leigh McCloskey). She befriends her schoolmate Rick Morehouse (Clayton Rohner) and helps him to be successful with the girls. But the problem is that she falls in love with Rick while she learns that she had not been discriminated.
"Just One of the Guys" is another delightful comedy from the 80´s. The story is flawed but very funny and it is hard to believe that the hot Joyce Hyser is a boy. But the situations are hilarious and this film is cult for many viewers including me. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Apenas um dos Rapazes" ("Just One of the Guys")
The Walking Dead: Scars (2019)
Daryl, Connie, Henry and Lydia come to Alexandria to treat the knee of Henry. Michonne accepts to give shelter to them but suspects of Lydia. Then they leave Alexandria and head to the Kingdom. Meanwhile Michonne recalls the traumatic experience and the scar she had when she left her old friend Jocelyn to come to Alexandria.
"Scars" is a typical filler episode. The story in flashback is not good and the behavior Michonne has after talking to Judith is inconsistent with her tough character. Henry will certainly harm people from Hilltop, Alexandria and The Kingdom. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): "Scars"
The Lost Room (2006)
While investigating a weird murder case in a pawn shop, Detective Joe Miller (Peter Krause) finds that a key opens any door to a mysterious hotel room in another dimension. Joe´s daughter Anna Miller (Elle Fanning), who is his pride and joy, is kidnapped by the criminal Weasel (Roger Bart) that proposes to swap the girl per the key. However, Anna flees and uses the key to escape from the criminals that retrieve the key. Weasel resets the door and Anna is lost in another dimension. Now her father learns that there are sects and people from the underworld using the power of the mysterious objects from the room and he teams up with Jennifer Bloom (Julianna Margulies) from The Legion and the millionaire and collector Karl Kreutzfeld (Kevin Pollak) expecting to rescue his beloved daughter.
"The Lost Room" is mini-series divided in six chapters - The Key, The Clock, The Comb, The Box, The Eye and the Occupant - with a fascinating premise. The story is a sort of "The Twilight Zone" with a good cast. Unfortunately there are many flaws in the conclusion that does not close many situations and forget important characters. Maybe the intention of the producers would be another season that was never done. Anyway the intriguing and original plot entertains. My vote is eight.

Combat!: The Flying Machine (1966)
Lt. Hanley is summoned and assigned to a recon mission with the skilled and bold pilot Brannigan. While returning from the assignment, they see a German convoy and decide to get closer for observation. However they are shot and crash nearby a German outpost. Brannigan breaks his leg and Lt. Hanley foresees that the only chance to return to the Allied headquarter with the collected information is fixing the plane and collapsing a wall ahead of their location. What will they do?
"The Flying Machine" is an episode of "Combat!" with promising beginning and a totally unrealistic conclusion. There are good moments with the relationship of Hanley and Brannigan. For example, gasoline has odor and it would be impossible that the Germans did not feel it. Brannigan hitting all the Germans is also an exaggeration. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): "Máquina de Voar" ("Flying Machine")
The Walking Dead: Chokepoint (2019)
Daryl and Connie rescue Henry that brings Lydia with him; however they are tracked down by Beta and a group of whisperers. Daryl sees a building and plots a tactic based on a choke point to defeat Beta and his group. Meanwhile Jerry is robbed by a group of road thieves and Carol and Ezequiel plot a bold plan to reunite the communities in the fair teaming up with the thieves.
"Chokepoint" is an episode of "The Walking Dead" based on strategies. Daryl plots a scheme to get rid of a larger group of attackers. Carol and Ezekiel succeed to turn a gang of thieves into road protectors. And Henry proceeds in his stupidities that will certainly cost lives of the presently peaceful communities in the future episodes. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Chokepoint"
St. Agatha (2018)
Cruelty, not Horror
In 1957, the teenager Mary (Sabrina Kern) feels guilty for the accidental death of her young brother drowned in a bathtub. She decides to leave her alcoholic father to live with her boyfriend Jimmy (Justin Miles). They become con artists, but one day one of their victims discovers the scheme and take all their money. Pregnant and left without any means of survival, Mary decides to leave Jimmy, who is a musician, and move to an isolated convent to deliver the baby. She is welcomed by the Mother Superior (Carolyn Hennesy), but soon Mary learns that there is a scheme in the convent to take the babies from the pregnant women.
"St. Agatha" is a film labeled with the horror genre, but there is basically cruelty and not horror. However, it is not a bad movie, but the viewer needs to have the stomach for watching the cruelties that Mary is submitted in the convent by the nuns. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): Not Available
Combat!: Luck with Rainbows (1965)
Hanley, Kirby, Littlejohn and a replacement try to recover the film from an Allied crashed reconnaissance plane. Out of the blue, the arrogant British Major Cole-Hughes and his sidekick arrive and take the film, leaving Hanley and his squad behind to fight Germans in a great number. However, Hanley and his squad succeed and destroy the attackers. When they return to the headquarters, Hanley and Kirby are summoned by the Major to team-up with his sergeant and him in a suicide mission to destroy V-2 rockets.
"Luck with Rainbows" is an episode with the rivalry between Americans and British. The result is an uneven episode with good and bad moments. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Sorte com o Arco-Iris" ("Luck with Rainbows")
Silly but Entertaining
In 1955, the orphan Lewis Barnavelt (Owen Vaccaro) arrives in Michigan to live with his uncle Jonathan Barnavelt (Jack Black). Soon he learns that his uncle is a warlock and his best friend Florence Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett) is a witch. Jonathan accepts to teach witchcrafts to Lewis and explains that there is only one rule in the house: the boy cannot open a cabinet in the house. Lewis is outcast at school and his mate Tarby Corrigan (Sunny Suljic) is the only boy that pays attention to him. He decides to invite Tarby to come home and the boy opens the cabinet and they discover a necromancy book inside. Lewis goes to the cemetery with Tarby to resurrect a dead and they choose the tomb of Isaac Izard (Kyle MacLachlan), who is a powerful wizard and plans to destroy mankind. What will happen next?
"The House with a Clock in Its Walls" is a silly but entertaining film with Cate Blanchett, Jack Black and Kyle MacLachlan. The target audience is teenagers but also entertains adults. The special effects are top-notch. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): "O Mistério do Relógio na Parede" ("The Mystery of the Clock in the Wall")
When the replacement Pvt. Kalb joins the squad of Sgt. Saunders, he is accused of cowardice by his fellow mate Fleming. He says that Kalb is a notorious survivor of his squad in Omaha Beach because he was hidden during the battle. Saunders asks whether Fleming had seen and he tells that he has not seen but heard. During a patrol in a French village, Saunders and his squad goes to a church to be an observation post. Doc treats the leg of Kalb and shows Saunders that seems to be a self-inflicted wound. While Fleming accuses Kalb of cowardice, the private claims that he had fought a German soldier that show him and he stabbed the enemy with his bayonet. Fleming tells that he will accuse Kalb in the Court Martial, but Kalb claims that is telling the truth. What really happened with Kalb?
"S.I.W." is another great and dramatic episode of "Combat!" with great performances of John Cassavetes, William Stevens and Vic Morrow. Sgt. Saunders as usual is the balanced character seeking for justice. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Lesão Auto-Inflingida" ("Self-Inflicted Wound")
Combat!: The First Day (1965)
The Four Replacements
Sgt. Saunders receive four teenage replacements - McBride, Tobin, Loomis and Tate - that have never been in combat before. They are assigned to a recon patrol with the veterans Saunders, Caje and Kirby and along their first day, they have different reactions.
"The First Day" is a great episode of "Combat!" with the story of four rookies in battle that have different fates: one dead, one wounded, one with nervous breakdown and one well succeeded, in another sad view of the war. My vote is nine.
Title (Brazil): "O Primeiro Dia" ("The First Day")
The Walking Dead: Guardians (2019)
The Way of Life of the Whisperers
Michonne´s security decisions are questioned by the Alexandria Council that wants to participate of the Kingdom´s fair. Negan proposes to be her advisor and Michonne refuses the offer. Daryl and Connie track down Henry while the teenager learns how cruel Alpha is.
"Guardians" is an episode where the viewer learns how cruel Alpha and her sidekick Beta are. Daryl and Connie risk their lives and Hilltop safety rescuing Henry. This stupid and stubborn character is the annoying part of the show. Michonne is concerned with the security of her community but people seem to have forgotten what happened in the past. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Guardians"
It Is not a Trash Movie, It Is Garbage
The cover of "Werewolves of the Third Reich" is highly attractive and promising - and that is all. The film is not a "trash movie" (such as "Braindead", "The Toxic Avenger" or "Piranha") but a complete garbage. The story and the screenplay are laughable in the bad sense. The cast is ridiculous, highlighting the ham Lee Bane, an annoying "actor" with terrible accent. Nothing works in this movie, the special effects are worst that those from the Sci-fi Chanel and the mask of the werewolf is terrible. See the DVD cover and forget the flick. My vote is two.
Title (Brail): "Lobisomens do Terceiro Reich" ("Werewolves of the Third Reich")
Combat!: Soldier of Fortune (1965)
Sgt. Saunders is assigned with Pvt. Wallace and linesman Pvt. Andy Narsh that speaks German to tap the German phone lines in an occupied town. They head to a cellar of a German telephone center but out of the blue, the town is attacked with shells and a beam collapses and traps Andy that is partially buried in the basement. However, Saunders and Wallace capture the three German telephone operators and they are forced to release Andy. Two Germans try to escape and are killed but the third named Meyer does not react and is tied. The wounded Andy tells that has important information to the intelligence to convince Saunders to not leave him behind but Meyer tells that he is a liar. Who is telling the truth?
"Soldier of Fortune" is a great episode of "Combat!", with the blackmail of a soldier that tries to convince Saunders that he has overheard an important information phone conversation. He does not want to be left behind and holds the information to force Saunders and Wallace to bring him back to the Allied lines. The moral again prevails in the conclusion. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Soldado da Sorte" ("Soldier of Fortune")
Infiltrated in the Ku Klux Klan
In the 70´s, in Colorado Springs, the quirky Afro-American Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) joins the police department and is assigned to work in the records room. Soon he offers to work undercover in the Narcotics, but his chief assigns him to infiltrate in a black movement led by Stokely Carmichael (Corey Hawkins) instead, where he meets the leader of the students Patrice Dumas (Laura Harrier). When he sees a Ku Klux Klan advertisement in the newspaper, Ron contacts the organization and is invited to join it. He convinces his chief to let the Jewish detective Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver) to go to the meeting posing of Ron Stallworth and they both investigate the organization.
"BlacKkKlansman" is a great film based on true events in the biographic book by Ron Stallworth, who was the first black police officer in Colorado Springs. The screenplay is engaging with tension and humor in right doses and the performances are top-notch. The footages in the end of the film are impressive. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Infiltrado na Klan" ("Infiltrated in the Klan")
Black Panther (2018)
"Black Panther" is a great deception for any viewer with brains. The hype creates expectation but the film is absolutely overrated. The plot and the characters are shallow and senseless. The Wakanda society accepts the dispute for the kingdom between the outsider Erik Killmonger and T'Challa without any plebiscite. The villain defeats T'Challa is a fair fight as per the Rules. Then Tchalla´s mother, sister and girlfriend recover him using the powerful plant destined to Wakanda kings. And T'Challa returns to Wakanda in a coup d'état, destroying the aircrafts sent by Killmonger to the spies. W'Kabi and his army support Killmonger and in the end, it seems that everything is all right in Wakanda that seems to have a great division between the social classes. There is also excessive references to the "birth of mankind" in the view of the writer. My vote is five.
Title (Brazil): "Pantera Negra" ("Black Panther")
The Walking Dead: Bounty (2019)
Alpha, supported by her group of Whisperers, demands her daughter Lydia and offers Aiden and Luke in exchange for Lydia. Daryl is forced to accept the swap but when he looks for the girl, he learns that Henry has released and escaped from Hilltop with her. Meanwhile Ezekiel and Jerry convince Carol and their group to go to a movie theater crowded of walkers to get the projector lamp to bring to the kingdom to have a theater for the community.
"Bounty" is an episode of "The Walking Dead" divided in two segments: in Hilltop, Alpha and the Whisperers trade with Daryl and his group, but Henry (always Henry) will certainly get the Hilltop people into trouble with his attitude. It is time to get rid of this stupid character. The other segment with Ezekiel, Carol and Jerry is a full of action filler. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Bounty"
Green Book (2018)
America in the Early 60´s
In 1962, the Italian-American Tony "Lip" Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) is as family man happily married with children with his beloved wife Dolores (Linda Cardellini). When the night-club Copacabana where he works as a bouncer closes for two months to be refurbished, Tony needs to find a two-month job to support his family. He accepts to become the driver of the classical Afro-American pianist Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) in a tour with two other Caucasian musicians through the racist South of America. He receives a Green Book, a travel guide with references of safe locations to black people and along their journey, they develop friendship and respect for each other.
The Oscar winner "Green Book" is a great film that discloses the racial segregation in the early 60´s in America. The touching story of friendship and injustice has magnificent performances of Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali. The screenplay blends drama, music and comedy and is based on a true story. "Green Book" is a film that really deserves the Oscar. My vote is nine.
Title (Brazil): "Green Book: O Guia" ("Green Book: The Guide")
Cabin 28 (2017)
"Cabin 28" is one of those movies that make the viewer regret to have spent time watching it. The story and the screenplay are lame; the acting is terrible; the cinematography and special effects are poor; in summary, this film is an awful garbage. The only thing that works is the wonderful art of the Brazilian DVD cover that lures the viewer. Advice when most needed is least heeded. Anyway, the advice is to stay away from this crap. My vote is one (awful).
Title (Brazil): "Cabana 28: Madrugada do Horror" ("Cabin 28: Dawn of the Horror")
Mineirinho Vivo ou Morto (1967)
A Criminal Is Born
While drinking beer in a bar, the mechanic José "Zezé" Rosa de Miranda (Jece Valadão) helps a woman named Isabela (Gracinda Freire) from three men that are chasing her. Zezé is violently beaten and hits one man with a bottle in self-defense, killing him. When the police arrive, the gangsters flee as well as Zezé and Isabela that takes him to a shed in the slum on the Mangueira hill. The tabloid journalism nicknames Zezé calling him Mineirinho and the police believe he is a criminal. The drugdealer Cobrinha (Wilson Grey) and his gang are hunting down Mineirinho and Isabela and stumble upon the policemen that are looking for Mineirinho on the hill and they kill the officers. The press credits the deaths to Mineirinho and the police try to catch Mineirinho watching and following his fiancée Maria (Leila Diniz). Meanwhile Mineirinho befriends the criminals Neném (Fábio Sabag), Caveira (Milton Gonçalves), Cabo (Nanai) and Onofre (Procópio Mariano) and becomes their leader in several heists. But the Chief of Police Geraldo (Oswaldo Loureiro) is ordered to catch the wanted Mineirinho dead or alive.
"Mineirinho Vivo ou Morto" is a Brazilian crime film based on a true story. The plot discloses the rise and fall of a notorious criminal created by the tabloid newspapers. The film is also a great chance to see Jece Valadão and Leila Diniz that died when she was twenty seven in a plane crash in India. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Mineirinho, Vivo ou Morto" ("Mineirinho, Dead or Alive")
Cruel and Heartbreaking Story about the Destructive Power of a Lie
In a small town in Denmark, the life of the kindergarten teacher Lucas (Mads Mikkelsen) turns upside-down and is destroyed when Klara (Annika Wedderkopp), the daughter of his best friend Theo (Thomas Bo Larsen), lies and tells to the director Grethe (Susse Wold) that he showed his sex to her.
"Jagten" is a Danish-Swedish drama with the storyline of These Three (1936) and The Children's Hour (1961). The cruel and heartbreaking story about how destructive a lie may be is updated and the screenplay well-written and with great performances. The commercial conclusion with Lucas apparently fixing his life again after all the bad things that happened to him is the weak part of the plot. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "A Caça" ("The Hunt")
Hunter Killer (2018)
Engaging and Full of Action Film
When the USS Tampa Bay submarine that is navigating in Russian waters loses contact with the American base, Captain Joe Glass (Gerard Butler) is assigned to command the USS Arkansas submarine to investigate. They discover the USS Tampa Bay and a Russian submarine sunk with survivors inside. However they are attacked by another Russian submarine hidden under an iceberg but they explode the enemy. Then they rescue the survivors, including the Russian Captain Andropov (Michael Nyqvist). Meanwhile a commando led by Lieutenant Bill Beaman (Toby Stephens) is sent to observe a Russian base and they find that a coup d'état is in progress with the defense minister Dmitriy Durov (Mikhail Gorevoy) overthrowing the Russian President Nikolai Zakarin (Alexander Dyachenko). Now Beaman and Glass are assigned to try to rescue Zakarin to avoid a nuclear war, but the only chance to the USS Arkansas reach the Russian base waters is with the help of Captain Andropov. Will he collaborate with Glass?
"Hunter Killer" is an engaging and full of action film with a good story. The plot has moments of "Fail-Safe", with the risk of a nuclear war and the chest game to the American military to avoid the war. This film is also the farewell of Michael Nyqvist in his last work. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Fúria em Alto Mar" ("Rage in High-Sea")
