3 words: Awful,Awful and Awful!
I don't think it matters whether you are a fan of the books or not to be able to come to the conclusion that this is the worst Harry Potter film of all and one of the most over-rated films ever! I have not read all of the books which means that I have a fairly unbiased view when watching the films-I'm not expecting the film to follow the books exactly.
This film was awful for several reasons: 1)Lack of dialogue- what's the point in paying the actors millions of pounds for them to say virtually nothing throughout...apart from Harry and frankly I would rather he remained quite throughout because his voice and wimpy demeanour irritate me! 2)Poor action scenes- for example an exchange between Harry and Voldermort- was pathetic. It wasn't an intense duel; it was poorly acted.
3)Wooden acting- for example the romance between Ron and Hermione- you could tell how uncomfortable they felt together! And the ending is incredibly poor- it was too abrupt and didn't connect smoothly to the rest of the film- a rush job I think.
I can't believe this film is expected to gross the most money of all the films. And I can't believe I actually PAID to see it...I would have to be paid to see it again that's for sure! Don't waste your money and time (2hours40mins)on this film even if, like me, you're going to see it just because it's the last ever films- it's the worst of the lot!
Disappointing and controversial
I'd heard a lot of good comments about Catfish but it failed to live up to expectations. From watching the trailer, we are made to believe that the film is thrilling when in fact it is very slow to develop.
Also, it's hard to tell when the actors are acting and when they are behaving "naturally" because it seems like they are often faking emotions when the film has been marketed as a true story.
The reason why I didn't give it 1/10 (which I was tempted to do!) is because the theme of the film- how an internet relationship is not always what it seems- whilst not the most innovative of ideas is still a intriguing one.
I do think the way the main actors behave in the 2nd half of the film to be disrespectful and tasteless (you will understand if you bother to watch this film but I wouldn't recommend it)and I think that their arrogance makes it difficult to sympathise with them when they discover all is not what it seems (with regards to the internet relationship) All in all, I think that the film had a brilliant theme which failed to translate into a top-notch, inspiring film. But for a low-budget film, it's not too bad I guess...I'll leave you to decide!
I'm not sure it was even worth 6! I was really looking forward to this film because the storyline seemed unusual-about a woman who tries to have an abortion illegally and how she has to have it done in secret without being discovered and implications of the abortion for her.
I normally enjoy foreign language films but I was quite disappointed. Not much happened and the story didn't seem to full develop by the end.I hate it when films do not have a proper ending and if you like a film to have a proper conclusion then this is probably not the film for you.
It did not move me or make me feel any emotion-apart from disappointment and confusion!
You'd be better off watching a different film!
I gave this film 10/10 (OK I've probably overestimated it slightly) but I was just so impressed-it far exceeded my expectations. And it certainly was not worth only 6.8/10 as an average score! Arterton was surprisingly good at playing the kidnap victim and maintained her character well throughout.
Marsan and Compston were brilliant too-Marsan being perfectly cast as the ruthless, aggressive kidnapper.
It's fantastic that it can be so gripping with just 3 characters-sometimes more is less.
Camera angles and effects are well used.
It really deserves to be called a thriller and I haven't seen a thriller as good as this in a long time. Well worth watching!
Lord of War (2005)
Unusual, intelligent film!
Nicolas Cage is brilliant in this film, particularly his voice-overs throughout. It gives it a documentary-like feel and highlights the arms trafficking by the international arms industry.
The film is a mixture of action and comedy-I would say it's a funny version of the City of God film.
I have to say I didn't think this film would be that interesting because I've never taken a particular interest to action films but I'm so glad I put aside my prejudices because it's an awesome film.
Warning: not for the faint-hearted! Lots of shooting/violence (obviously!)but thankfully there are light-hearted moments too.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)
Do NOT watch this!
I thought that this film was so boring! Penelope Cruz won an Oscar for this....and for what?! Yeah she was good at playing a crazy woman but I thought that her part was very small and that the storyline was slow to develop and never reached a climax. Pathetic if you ask me! I'm never watching a film with Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz in it ever again! This film isn't thrilling, inspiring or romantic. I know I'm being very critical of it but I just think I wasted a lot of time watching it through to the end when nothing actually happened. A big disappointment unfortunately, especially after all the praise its been given :/
