Godfather of Harlem (2019– )
6/10
Only watchable for

..the main characters cast (except that italian overkill in gigante pants, more like evil Randy Hickey ). Most disturbing thing about this whole thing is the absolutely inadequate and CHEAP soundtrack. Terrible music, mostly ear hangover.

Red Army (2014)

quite disappointing
30 May 2015
Sorry to say, I was very disappointed with this movie. Having managed to persuade a hockey legend and a politician of Russia to agree to partake on a "hockey documentary" is unfortunately the biggest achievement of Gabe Polsky on this title. I was really hoping to see and hear a lot more about the golden CSKA Moscow era and how it supplied the Soviet hockey team with the core of their succcess, but there is literally zero mentioning of this in the movie. The setting of the ambiance and the interviews are in my opinion quite overdramatized and it is obvious from the reactions of the interviewees they felt the same way. This could have been a far better film if more space was given to players from other countries who were confronted with the soviet team.

TEN out of 10 movie!
23 August 2013
This film is an absolute mastership of movie making. The plot might seem simple to some - older man taking care of a child, but the epicness of this drama lies in the historic setting of this story which is amplified by the absolute mastery of displaying the scenes both through the eyes of a 6 yrs old as well as as the portrayed every-day struggles of a grown individual in the "normalizing" era of Czechoslovakia. The film will captivate you from it's beginning to the end, throughout the whole story in it's heartbreaking moments as well as by the easy set scenes. I do not write reviews often, but just I saw this movie when I was like 16, then sometimes in my 20ies, and being 33 these days I find this one probably the maximum level where a family movie can make it. I have no doubt you will enjoy.

very authentic drama

I only heard about the Edelweiss Piraten very recently so I was very curious about the movie, as the the rating of this movie on IMDb wasn't particularly high. I must say I am very glad having ingnored it and following the experience that German history is best served from German movie makers. The fact that the story is being told by a genuine former EdelweissPiraten-member Jean Jülich gives the authenticity of the movie very much credit, as well as the camera. The story is being followed by the viewer always from the point of a direct atendee of the scene which really adds to the dramatic effect. My rating would be 8.7, therefore i choose 9
