House of 9 (2005)

Severely Under-rated

OK, here we go! This movie isn't worthy of academy awards for stellar acting and the plot is a little frivolous (a la most teenage-aimed horror movies) BUT the cast are likable and the acting is decent enough. Kelly Brook and Asher D both put in admirable performances and Dennis Hopper although a little disappointing for a actor of his calibre is more than adequate. The plot isn't great as i mentioned and can easily be scrutinised BUT if you take the film for what it is and with a pinch of salt, it really is quite enjoyable. The scenes in the house are quite stylish and although in places it is predictable it is by no means all the way through...which i found was quite refreshing as in my opinion horror movies generally are so blatantly obvious! To conclude, this is worth buying in my opinion! Give it a go!

Disappointing!

This really wasn't good!

If you are only buying Jude Law movies for him then this is one of the best to own! He is incredibly cute in it! His character however doesn't fit in with the 'gang' (of 3 people...) he is in with in the movie. Sadie Frost puts on a dreadful accent, Jason Isaacs and Marianne Faithful may aswell not have been in it...hence it was a 'blink and miss' scene for both of them!

Sean Pertwee wasn't that great either...he is capable of so much more and this just seemed a bit of a waste. Sean Bean was only in it for 10 minutes if that and then curiously he is never seen again...when the plot would have suggested it would be inevitable he would return.

The movie had a frustrating ending and there seemed to be no ties pulled together (sorry if im vague!)...but if you watch it you'll know what I mean!!

I'd give it a 3/10, only for Jude Law fans I'd say...mainly because he's the only appealing actor in it!

Final Cut (1998)

Unexpected

Warning: Spoilers
After watching 'Love, Honour & Obey' (one of my favourite films!) I was really looking forward to watching this. It has the general same cast minus Sean Pertwee and Jonny Lee Miller and a couple more. The theme did sound excellent and a must-see from its cover. When I watched it I did feel quite disappointed. I'm a big fan of Jude Law and Ray Winstone and while they acted as tremendously as ever the film seemed to lack a certain spark and Sadie Frost's acting was quite disappointing also. The movie also seemed to be very cheaply made which is more evident in the scene where Jude Law's character is murdered! There are some comical moments in the film that make it worthwhile anyway!

The concept was completely original and refreshing in that sense but in a couple of places seemed to have no logic. I did enjoy this nevertheless and will continue to watch it in the future and would recommend it to most people who like the substance of Brit flicks...I would just tell them not to hope/expect too much from it or to take every part literally. However, an enjoyable little number with some particularly sterling acting from Ray Winstone!
