Righteous Kill (2008)
Badly executed, saved by Pacino and De Niro
Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Brian Dennehy are all great actor's and they do a fine job in this movie. The movie itself, feels like something made for TV or direct to DVD. Who pays John Avnet to make movies? This is not a well executed work. The story could maybe have been made interesting but it is totally lacking any suspense. It feels like an episode of "Murder she wrote". I feel sorry for all the talented actors out there who got beat by 50 cent in the audition for the role of Spider, missing out on the chance of acting opposite Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Someone please stop John Avnet from directing any more movies. Without the two superstars this movie would get 2 out of 10.
Great cast and superb acting.
Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts gets the chance to really shine. Two young up n coming actors who both put in a great performance. It is fantastic to see these two really get in to their parts. What we get to see is actors withe pure talent at their bests.Even Daryl Hannah is really strong. Even down to the smallest part the movie is great casted. This is a must for everyone who loves great acting! Geraldine Page was nominated for best supporting actress, other smaller parts include M. Emmet Walsh, Burt Young(Oscar nominated for Rocky), Jack Kehoe (known from The Sting and Serpico) and many many more. With New York City as a backdrop for the story, this is almost as god as it gets. A classic!
Miami Vice (2006)
The best one could do without copying the series.
Michel Mann is a true genius. He took on the impossible job of making a movie of one of the most popular TV series ever. Instead of copying it, he created something new and fresh. People who doesn't think it's worth watching must have thought that they would get a trip back in time to the 80's and when they all dreamt of being Sonny Crocket/Don Johnson. This is not that movie. This is the one and true tribute to the essence of Miami Vice, which was much more about relationships, love, hate, honesty, sacrifices and commitment than of guns and drug lords. The movie has the exact same qualities. Everyone who doesn't think the movie makes the series justice should watch them again this time thinking of the characters and their life instead of the cars, women and guns. Colin Farrell plays the part of his life, one he should be remembered for.
Never pay to see this movie
This is one of the worst movies I've seen. My high expectations might have influenced me... The movie is badly acted, badly directed and it feels like its original idea(If it ever had one) was totally destroyed in editing. I like Samuel L, Ashley Judd and Andy Garcia, but I'm sorry this time they messed up.The movie feels like a TV series that has been edited down to 93 minutes of film. Sometimes it's almost laughably predictable. There are many famous names involved in this movie and maybe "to many chefs makes a bad soup" is the problem with it. The first 30 minutes of it which should be used to build up some suspense and feeling for the characters are horrible, the only thing that makes you watch the hole thing is that you can not believe that the whole movie is as bad as the beginning. The twist of the movie is that it does not contain anything worth calling a twist.
