When you see 97% on the tomato meter than you're expecting a bit. Every previous Mad Max had at least some sort of plot. Not this one. They are just fleeing from the mean boss in order to save his wives. This one takes place on the road for 99% of the time. Sure it's still fun and interesting but you expect a whole lot more after it was hyped so immensely. The 3D is decent but as for the movie, it's only mediocre. Worth a Blu Ray? Yes. Because it makes a great Demo Disc. But mostly for that reason only. The movie itself really feels like a B-Movie. Or rather like a movie where a B-Movie Director was handed $150 Million, which is how much this one cost. And he didn't know what to do with it so he made the exact same movie just better looking.
OK, the third one is here. Since I missed the airing and don't steal content I waited the month until it came on Blu Ray here in Austria. Right when the movie starts you notice it looking more like a high-def vacation video than a film. Also you immediately notice that the celebrities stood in line to get in this movie. Not even in a "real movie" have you ever seen so many cameos. Ever. The first 2/3rds of this movie progress quite nicely. Nice effects shots. Nice gore. We get some more insight in Fins family life, which is nice. We encounter some familiar faces and then the whole east-coast is in danger and the course of action that they decide on, which involves Fins Dad who's identity I won't spoil for those select few that don't know, is simply ludicrous. When they go through with it, they suddenly encounter sharks in an environment much more hazardous to aquatic life than the land. Still, the movie is fun and Ian Ziering really does his all to save this script. It still is a lot of fun, so, if you can fetch the Blu Ray for 10 bucks then I say go with it.
You all see the bad scores this movie got. So what's wrong with this movie? Easy: The viewer. You go in with the expectation to see an Action Zombiethriller with Arnold Schwarzenegger kicking ass. Instead of a really sensitive slow Drama against an apocalyptic Background. That actually says it all. It's the best Schwarzenegger has acted in his life. One has to appreciate that. The plot: A plague roams the earth and the infected get quarantined for a while until they turn and then.... Well, Arnie decides to keep his daughter with him, who has been bitten for as long as possible and then deal with the consequences. It's an excellent movies. An Independent Film at it's best. See it. buy it. support it. Seriously, if you can take a movie that's a bit slower you should really give this one a chance. We know that Breslin is always good. Schwarzenegger really shows that he can actually act here. Also the story is quite interesting just FYI.
