Cute cast can't save mediocre writing
6 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A knight from the Middle Ages is transported to present times. A woman who knocks him over takes him in to live with her. Very plausible! Vanessa Hudgens is sweet as ever. Her costar Josh is an alright actor too. This movie could have been funny with the difference in time periods but the writing isn't high quality enough. Wasted comic potential. The ending isn't well explained. Is he just going to stay in the present and forget about his life in the past?

Bit confusing but some nice visuals
6 December 2019
Takes a while to remember what happened in number 1 and sort out the characters. There are some exciting scenes in the desert and the bridges. Not that funny when they try for laughs. The nature is pretty. Although they do try hard to talk the way their characters do. The Rock is pretty good comically Awakfina is a welcome addition.

Cute cast pretty scenes
5 December 2019
Two single parents bond over decorations. Sarah Drew plays a wedding planner. Ryan McPartlin is a charming Christmas decorator with a goofy smile. Lesley Ann Warren looks lovely and young - she has aged very well. They have a cute enough romance with a pretty finale.

As far as these movies go this is alright - it's not about the struggling business and moving to a small town stuff.

Not a lot of story for a movie
5 December 2019
The story is simple- a royal visit and a couple of side plots. The rivalry between the royal staff and Downton staff is a bit silly. Not enough happened with the aristocracy. Like if the Christmas specials.

Nice to see the familiar faces again.

Been done better before
5 December 2019
There have been a few of these married to many wives at the same time movies. This one is a bit more tongue in cheek humorous. Not a drama. I am a huge fan of Kelly Rutherford and she looks beautiful and classy here. If not for her I would say skip this one. The other two actresses are a bit B grade. A lame little twist at the end.

Nothing very different or new here
4 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This average Lifetime thriller offers little novelty from the usual wacko nanny story. She wants the kids and starts poisoning the kids mentally against the mother and literally poisoning the mother. Why does she do it? No good reason. This is not Hand that Rocks the Cradle by far.

Knives Out (2019)

Involving but didn't like some aspects of the story
4 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is good but it isn't that great. The Agatha Christie style who dunnit with an all star cast is involving and fun to watch. The tension you feel for the character Marta played well by Armas is unique. So there is an inventiveness that keeps the viewer concentrating for clues and wrapped up in the dynamic of the characters. The in fighting in the family is funny. And the way they turn on her is painfully real. The way nasty relatives are shown may be too close to home for some viewers.

Christopher Plummer is amazing actor - he in his late eighties and the rest of the cast hams it up including Toni Collette, Jamie Lee Curtis and Daniel Craig with an exaggerated but intelligible accent. In "Fierce People" Chris Evans acted a similar role so it was a bit of a déjà vu how his character turned out.

But there are some flaws. The grand explanation with the switching of the medicine is confusing and unconvincing. Also the family wasn't that bad to justify a total disinheriting. If the patriarch wanted to help Marta he didn't have to leave her everything. She was doing a job well and a sizeable legacy would have sufficed. There is a political slant to the story that Agatha Christie wouldn't have had. Here the writer pits the sweet good hearted daughter of an illegal immigrant against the evil white entitled wealthy mercenary people. Too cliched.

Despite the flaws it's worth a watch because movies like this aren't that common anymore.

A Christmas Princess (2019 TV Movie)

Meghan & Harry - not quite
3 December 2019
This movie tries to replicate the magic of the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle romance. An over feisty African American Chef and a vaguely European prince with an Australian accent bond over a banquet. The lead actor Travis Burns has the wrong look and demeanour for a prince. He is more suited to the bad guy in a Lifetime thriller. Also a prince with an Aussie accent is hard to digest. An Aussie prince is a contradiction in terms. It's a moderately tedious journey to see how they overcome their obstacles but things just resolved without much reason.

Christmas in Rome (2019 TV Movie)

Nice on location filming
3 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hallmark regulars Sam Page and Lacey Chabert play a businessman visiting Rome and and a tour guide living in Rome respectively. Watching them walk through Rome is reason enough to pick this one over some other Christmas movies. But it looks like they filmed in warmer weather than Christmas time. She is a bit over chatty in her usual way. Things get a bit boring with setting up her tour business and his business deal. Not a must watch but the travelogue is more convincing than the romance. At least moving to Rome isn't as bad as the usual give up everything for a small town.

The story wasn't well written
3 December 2019
I couldn't follow what was going on in the story. Felt like gibberish after a while. Chris Hemsworth doesn't have comedic timing and he rushes his dialog. Should speak slower and clearly. Can't make out what he says. Tessa and him don't have much chemistry.

Nice scenery in exotic locations.

Good stories both human and dog
3 December 2019
The story is dramatically involving and satisfyingly complete. Want to watch it to the end. Lots of reincarnations of dogs. Kathryn Prescott is good for this role that requires her to act sad and happy when required. She has a bunch of trials and tribulations to face and her insecurities are touching. The bad mother character is quite real. In a modern change the good guy is played by an Asian actor who does everything right for her.

Likeable cast and good story
23 November 2019
A nice difference from the usual this fun and involving action comedy involves kids becoming superheroes. The grown ups are actors we like. The kids are cute and not annoying.

Well done.

Likeable cast - some plot holes.
23 November 2019
ALS movie with an all star cast. Emmy acts skanky well. Good range. Hilary is good but they needed subtitles when she was speaking towards the second half. The guys are too nice for the gals. Liked the well cast mothers Marcia and Frances - just right.

The main character is perplexing. She sacks her maid and doesn't want her mother's help but then feels sad she ruined her husband's life. If she had just accepted the right help her marriage wouldn't have been strained. Another fault why would a wealthy woman have a Yamaha in her home?

For a disease show this is watchable.

Lots of familiar faces
20 November 2019
Lots of familiar TV faces populate this Christmas movie. Feel like there's more than 1 movie going on at a time. Torrey DeVitto shows her skills playing the cello. She sends cards to a variety of people in her life. Chad Michael Murray plays her love interest.

Thankful this one is different
19 November 2019
The casting works in this movie. Erin Cahill is pretty as a journalist and Jaclyn Smith looks believable as her mom. Kevin McGarry looks better and less goofy than in other Hallmark movies. Patrick Duffy plays helper to Secret Santa.

The story isn't the usual thing about a struggling business. There is a tycoon in disguise being Secret Santa. He secretly makes life better for her while pretending to be a journalist like her. A bit of a Prince in disguise type story.

It's nice to see the different things Secret Santa does. Watchable.

Exciting races - story could have been edited and shortened
19 November 2019
This long movie is quite involving and the races are exciting. The in the driver's seat point of view makes the races exciting and the David v Goliath thing always gets you rooting for the underdog. Enjoyable even for non race car enthusiasts. The actors are good from main to supporting. Bale is convincing as the driver. Damon looks suitably tired and puffy as the ex driver turned designer.

Some faults - Some scenes could have been cut. The wife's hissy fit could have been cut. Josh Lucas' mini nasty character was over done for the sake of having a villain, Jez Butterworth the screen writer wrote plays that have made it to Broadway and are excruciatingly and unnecessarily long. Don't understand some of the strong accents of Christian Bale and his wife. The movie should have ended right after Le Mans. Less of a downer if they had.

Neither good horror nor good drama
18 November 2019
The format is just too fragmented. The jumping around in time is excessive. Changes in time period are hard to discern. Having to remember the different scenes over several episodes is too taxing. The lighting is dim for Tv. As far as horror is concerned nothing much happens then suddenly a very quick thing and a scream. If you blink you will miss it. As far as drama it's also confusing. Can't feel for the characters. Bafflingly good reviews.

Beautiful production but Emma Watson is wrong
18 November 2019
This movie boasts stunning sets and delightful animation with an expanded story. Maybe a little too much story.

The main flaw is Emma Watson is wrong. She looks like a young teen and speaks and looks like Hermione still. Too childish. Other recent Disney heroines have been better like Lily James In Cinderella or Lily Collins in Snow White. The singing should have been dubbed by real Broadway or West End performers. Luke Evans as Gaston being a real stage performer is more convincing.

Still worth a watch.

Not done before scenario for a change
18 November 2019
Liked the cast together. Jesse Metcalf and Autumn Reeser make a compatible looking couple looks wise. She isn't silly looking like some.

The story starts off a bit more interesting than usual. He's been laid off from an investment firm. At least the story doesn't have a completely done to death set up. What's irritating is that she's angry with him for working in finance even though he isn't responsible for her troubles. Unreasonable for sure. Good thing he doesn't have to sacrifice his career for love for a change.

Involving at first then a let down
17 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
At first the movie is involving with the tense play of race and stereotypes. An adopted boy from Africa is a brilliant student. But his African American teacher suspects something isn't right about him. The actresses Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer are so likeable that you feel for each side.

It's hard to discuss the movie without referring to the ending. It doesn't feel right that Luce would resort to such a psychopathic scheme because of what happened to his friend. So the big reason for the character's actions is insufficient.

Waste of time
17 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The attempted hillbilly drama isn't good for 2 reasons. First the story isn't well written. Although the first part about protecting your kin is quite good then the resolution falls flat.

Shooting the brother didn't ring true.

The story should have ended properly. What happens after that? If they were going to put us through the whole movie at least end their relationship on a more definite path. Felt like a waste of time.

The cute Aussie cast is too pretty to be white trash. But if they weren't nice to look at this movie would be even worse.

Fascinating and strange but watchable
16 November 2019
In this strange yet fasincating movie Ryan Gosling demonstrates he's a great actor. He usually is a man of few words in his movies but here he does more talking here than usual. He plays a Jewish man who didn't like his religious classes when young who has turned into a Neo Nazi. He joins up with a new facist organization falls for the daughter of one of the ring leaders, plants bombs and other things but seems to pull back when it comes to major destruction, murder or bombing. There is a good supporting cast including Teresa Russell, Billy Zane as the ringleaders and Summer Phoenix as the love interest.

Strange and different movie.

Effective story beautiful Lynda
16 November 2019
One thing this movie shows is that Lynda Carter is a good dramatic actress. It's a difficult role. The story is effective and simple. No twists. After an accident where the other party is blamed a woman realises she is actually responsible. The soundtrack has a 50s melodrama feel.

Worth a watch.

About teens but not for teens
16 November 2019
Sex drugs and more in high school. First a warning. Although this is a show about high school teenagers it's too much for teens to watch. Much more so than "13 reasons Why". There are parts when the scenes are much more explicit than necessary for the story. There isn't a boundary this show doesn't try to push for TV. Having said all that there are some fascinating and bizarre characters that keep things morbidly watchable for 8 episodes. A biracial lesbian drug addict, a transgender girl who is her bestie, a jock with demons, his closeted statutory rapist dad, the list goes on. It's hard to keep track of the different characters and plot twists some tunes. Even if you don't agree with the suitability of the content here the acting is better than it has to be. Zendaya is convincing as an addict very natural acting. Jacob Elordi does the mean jock well.

Hate to say it but do want to see what happens in season 2.

Linda is beautiful and can sing and dance
15 November 2019
Nice fast moving biopic of Rita Hayworth. Linda Carter is stunningly beautiful here and shows off her wonderful singing and dancing skills. In fact she is more gorgeous than the real Rita Hayworth. Quite illuminating is her marriage to Aly Khan and the clash of values regarding having mistresses.

So sad to find out about the recent tragic fate of her grand children in the news.

They did biopics better in the 80s and 90s.
