5,000 Miles from Home (2009)
excellent story of role Chicago Italian-Americans played in War effort
Good stories, anecdotes...excellent narration.. great cross-section of viewpoints ..well-researched story. Detailed photos of old Chicago neighborhoods such as Little Italy . The narration by local TV-Radio personality Bob Sirott was outstanding. The focal point of the film was the old veterans who recollected their most vivid memories of their military service in World War II. The interview style was excellent. The video shifted from old photos of the young men and their families back to the present day veterans -this was a very effective technique. The footage of the holocaust sites and of the lynching of Benito Mussolini was very impressive and historical. The anecdotes and stories were delivered with grace and a sense of humor as well as dignity. A well-researched presentation. Kudos to the writer/producers.
