Summer Job (1989)
10/10
An excitable romp
18 August 2019
Working at the beach can be exciting. For a group of college coeds, it's a dream like no other. They come from mostly other states, and attending different colleges. At least they know how to have fun. They would pull pranks on one another. Have sexual interactions. When one worker was girl shy, he would later get lucky with the bratty princess. And the scene where one guy gets a painful grope for being too handsy. This movie may not have big stars, but the looks of the late 80's was nice. Too many people would put down this movie. I wouldn't. There's a lot of late 80's looks, and a good storyline to make it worth watching. It was very funny to say the least. 4 out of 5 stars.

Summer Job (1989)
10/10
I enjoyed it very well!
17 August 2019
Working in the summer does come with the territory, if you're in school, you need a job. Since there were no high schoolers involved, I can say that it's okay. A group of college coeds work in a hotel resort. Thinking about what to do when they finish their degrees. Plenty of romp going on, childish hanky panky and everything else you can think of. I liked all the pranks pulled on one another. Especially when one of the guys got heat ointment put in his underwear, or the tampering of the bubble bath. The same guy who got too handsy getting his jewels crushed. That was funny. Hopefully he will tend to them, and probably be called "Precious" for the rest of his life. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! This movie didn't have many big names, but it was very enjoyable to say the least. There was a lot of sexual activity, but it wasn't heavy. An enjoyable romp for late night fun. 4 out of 5 stars.

La minorenne (1974)

How ridiculous as it is interesting
3 August 2019
Being raised Catholic should mean that you are strictly obedient and pure. In "La Minorenne", it's a whole different scenario. You have a young Catholic girl who dressed provocative, and gets attacked by some bikers, not a very good thing. While recovering, wild things happen all over the place. Gloria Guida played it well as a school girl tart. And all the sexual encounters, this movie is a perfect late night romp. It's also funny. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a taste of Italy. 2 out of 5 stars

Death Wish, Italian style!
21 July 2019
The same year "Death Wish" came out, Italy would have its own revenge film. It's an individual who has been tired of the police's incompetence, and would decide to take the law into his own hands. In "Street Law" Franco Nero plays Carlos, a model citizen who gets robbed at the post office by a gang of robbers. But these guys aren't ordinary robbers, they are members of the underworld. That would make it difficult. So he makes his way by having one of the robbers help him out. It wasn't easy, but it was effective enough to let them know that he is a force to be reckoned with. He's one angry man, close enough to be like America's Paul Kersey. An oldie but a goodie. Worth the watch. 2 out of 5 stars.

Hell High (1989)

Could use some work
28 June 2019
Vengeance can be cruel, especially when you are a prankster who ends up getting a taste of his/her own medicine. In "Hell High", it's no surprise. A harried teacher who was on the verge of a mental breakdown really showed how she was about to lose it. Four sinister students give her a hard time in biology class which the leader hatches a plan to make her go off the deep end. However, she's a victim of a past incident that she was involved in. As a little girl, she flung some slime from a swamp which resulted in tragedy. Two teenagers entered the shack she was using as a hideaway was used to commit adultry. Goes to the term "shacking". Since no one ever knows that she killed those teens, the murders was known, but they didn't know who committed them. It was a very low budget film, and the location of the film is well known. There were parts of the movie that was a little weak. I liked a few parts, when Queenie who was involved in the prank flashed Jon-Jon in her room when she was supposed to be "changing her top". It was more humor than horror. The blood was a little flat. Good for a rainy day. 2 out of 5 stars

A modern-day romp
23 May 2019
When it was like "The Old West", lawless was the norm. In "Vigilante Force", this one is like "The New West". Just as rowdy as it can be. In a California town where the oil fields are rich, and the workers are very unruly. The local police can't do much, because some of their deputies are killed by the rowdies. Then a single father(Jean-Micheal Vincent) who happens to be a war veteran get in touch with his brother (Kris Kristofferson) and his crew to help tame the unruly citizens of the town. They are successful, but they would soon fall victim to power. Now it's up to the vet and his townspeople to stop his brother and his "Vigilante Force". It was like a modernized version of a Western movie. Very subtle, but enjoyable to say the least. It's recommended for the weekend. 4 out of 5 stars.

A eye-opener....
10 May 2019
I was only a 4 year old when the movie came out. I was curious about a few things. Death is a scary thing. It has a choice to be pleasant or painful. Hearing reports of people who have seen Jesus is one thing that it's pleasant. A painful death is painful caused by the person's act of selfishness. When a person commits suicide, they would see their lives flashed before their eyes. The woman who ran off the road got a second chance. Don't throw your life away over unfaithfulness. Move on, find a faithful companion. And the ones who had died naturally or unnaturally, got the experience of it and found it was pleasant. Before the show "1000 Ways to Die", this movie was a bit of a reminder to respect your life and don't be foolish. Too many people are obsessed with death, and they are the ones who will get the painful results. This movie is a major keeper for me. I'm fortunate to see it and learn how to understand life, and respect it. 5 stars!

So many secrets are out there....
11 April 2019
Someone has killed her mother, and set fire to her house. Ellie is later sent to an orphanage where there are more sinister things going on in there. Ellie(Melody Patterson) is very troubled because her mother is a prostitute and the man who was with her is one of her "johns". The murder weapon is a hammer. In the orphanage, it's no better. Most of the orphans there tends to run away, most of them don't even make it out. One orphan decided to run away. Only to lose his hand. And more. At the orphanage, Ellie meets Bunch(Terri Messina), who became a rival of Ellie. Since Ellie is older, she would take interest in Walter, Mrs. Deere's helper. Most orphanages are usually helpful for the children. This one is another story. The case worker would send a detective named Calvin Carruthers(Vic Tayback) to check on Ellie. Since he's closer to her than anyone else, it would make him her guardian angel. Since there are only a few deadly weapons in the film. A hammer and a cleaver. This movie was more fun than a letdown. This is a low budget horror movie, but it was made very effective for the viewers. 2 out of 5 stars.

Private Parts (1972)

A modernized version of "Psycho"
15 February 2019
Having a runaway girl in a movie is always going to be interesting. After a falling out with the roommate, Cheryl(Ayn Ruymen) leaves a room on the beach to go to a very seedy hotel in Los Angeles run by her aunt(Lucille Benson). Cheryl would settle in a room which was once occupied by a model named Alice. Questions arises when it came to Alice's disappearance. Cheryl become very suspicious about her own family. And what kind of a hotel is her aunt running? Lucille Benson does her job well in this film. She would go on in the 1980 sitcom "Bosom Buddies" where she played the hotel owner. Only the hotel is more legit, and it is a women's only hotel. This is a very disturbing film to say the least. Sexual perversion is big. Fetishism and voyeurism is involved. Something to make you curdle. Recommended for the buffs. 2 out of 5 stars

Girly (1970)

Grim to say the least
5 February 2019
The United Kingdom is known for its nostalgia of royalty. It's also known for its comedy as well. In "Girly", it's a dark comedy that is really grim, but very funny as well. Vanessa Howard is Girly, a nubile girl in a role playing "family" along with Mumsy, Sonny, and Nanny. The family is wealthy, fatherless, and have the knack to obey the rules given out. Sonny and Girly go out and about and would find out new friends to be in the family. They would find bums and hippies to be in this grim game being played by them. Those who don't abide by the rules will be sent to the angels. One night, they picked up a male prostitute and his female client from a swingers party. They played games, the children speak out nursery rhymes, and on the playground, they would kill the female client. And after the man sobers up, he's part of the twisted game he would have to play. Lots of rhymes and sexual overtones in this film. Very quaint as well. I don't why this movie didn't do well in their country. I think that it's a bloody hit. 4 out of 5 stars

Utterly disturbing
3 February 2019
Saying that love knows no loss, this movie took it to a whole new level of freaky. His true love dies in his arms at a hospital, a taxidermist takes preserving love to a whole new meaning. A her funeral, he injected her with a preserving fluid. At night, he digs up her body and takes it back to his basement where he does his taxidermy. Prior to her death, his housekeeper "mothers" him and also pleasures him which is all too much to see. Prior to returning to his home, a traveler from the United States rides along with him. After getting herself stoned, she would wake up and see the horror of his activity. Following the suffocation she received, the housekeeper would hack her up, and get an acid bath. He also remember that his fiancee had a twin sister. When will the madness end? This movie was downright insane. The eroticism, the madness, and the power of love in ways that would make a normal person look like a gentleman. He makes Norman Bates look like Dr. Jekyll. A European version of Psycho! 3 out of 5 stars

Catatonically speaking
29 January 2019
What extreme measures should one must go to inherit a fortune? For Wylie(Michael Sarrazin), he would result to murder. His aunt is being cared for by Luke(Tim Henry), who happens to be staying with her. Kassia(Gayle Hunnicutt) works at a salon when the aunt gets her hair done. One day, a cat sneaked into the salon, and caused the aunt to have a breathing problem. The aunt happens to suffer from emphysema. So Kassia goes out to find Wylie, and gets him ready to see his aunt. However, he is very reluctant because he has been suffering from ailurophobia(The fear of cats). So when a cat comes near him, he instantly freezes. He and Kassia make there way to his aunt in order to change the will. The reason why is she was about to give the money to the cats. But who is the one who wants to have the aunt killed off? This movie is really a chiller. Whoever made it did a very good job. I enjoyed everything in it, very much. It's a real gem there. 5 stars!

Very rabid, indeed

Batman has been popular throughout the ages. In the comics, there was a villain named Man-Bat. "The Bat People", deals with a man bat. You have a doctor who has his vacation ruined by bat bite. He goes to a doctor nearby, gets himself medicated. Should be feeling better. But that's not the case. The medicine he received, instead caused an adverse reaction. He would start convulsing and worse transform into a bat. In bat mode, he would kill. Unintentionally, he would find victims to slake his unquenchable thirst for blood. There's some cheese to this film, yet it provides plenty of entertainment to boot. A classic film, great for the horror buffs. 2 out of 5 stars

The Possessed (1977 TV Movie)

A small screen version of The Exorcist
24 January 2019
Made for TV movies are fun. "The Possessed" is like a small screen version of "The Exorcist". Only easier to see. A priest(James Farentino) who was involved in a car accident gets a second chance at life following his ordeal with alcohol and disbelief. He would go to this all-girls school which next year would be coed. Bad things happen in the school. Things were catching on fire, the graduating class get a little scare when the valedictorian gets mysteriously burned during practice. And most of all, the biology teacher(Harrison Ford) gets engulfed by the flames after he saved the student, earlier. The priest takes action against the evil that terrorized the school. Despite being a TV movie, it does have a great cast. Eventhough Ford's role was small. It was made by Warner Bros. Still good to enjoy. 2 out of 5 stars

C.B. Hustlers (1976)

Subtlety entertaining
23 January 2019
Trucker movies are always going to be for me. Before "Smokey and the Bandit", this movie, "C.B. Hustlers" goes out to a whole new level. Knowing C.B. jargon takes times to learn. For those local newshounds, they would have to be ahead of themselves(only the owner) who is more advanced in the jargon. It's not just the truckers who have the C.B., a group of road entertainment who accompany the truckers during the long haul. They ride in vans. Though small, vans are considered one of the big trucks on the open road. They carry more people than an automobile. Plus, you can have more fun in them. The "hustlers" know their clients very well. And the news hounds will try their best to shut them down. Since they are mobile, I don't think they will ever slow down, but they are thinking about other venues. This movie was very adult in nature, yet it was very entertaining as well. This movie is made for truckers and other travelers. A big keeper in my book. 2 out of 5 stars

Ruby (1977)

A unusual horror story
21 January 2019
The heyday of the mob. Being an entertainer of that time was always the fuss. But when people go legit, it's always going to be good. For "Ruby", it's not that way. Ruby Claire(Piper Laurie) is a gun-moll who is pregnant watches in horror when her mobster boyfriend gets gunned down by his own crew. Years later, Ruby owns a drive-in movie and some of the former members of the mob work with her. Her daughter Leslie(Janit Baldwin) is 16 and mute, lives with her. One by one, members of the mob suddenly died. The spirit of the slain boyfriend seeks revenge on the crew. So he uses the daughter as a vessel for vengeance. This movie is like a cross between "Carrie" and "The Exorcist". Only tamer. The cast of the movie are great. The special effects was spot on. Enjoyable to say the least. 2 out of 5 stars

The Legacy (1978)

Nice, but slow
19 January 2019
A chance of a lifetime can be fun, or it can be questionable. A couple from Los Angeles are invited to England for a job, which turned out to be a inheritance from a dying man. Nice to hear such news. It's not only her, but four other inheritors join along with her. But something is sinister about all this. The inheritors get signet rings from the benefactor, however 5 of the 6 met gruesome demise. A call girl was swimming in the pool and drowned. A musician choked on a chicken bone and died from a failed tracheotomy. Another man gets engulfed in flames and leaves the rest of the room untouched. One man falls to his death when Maggie Walsh(Katharine Ross) makes his shotgun backfire on him. Those that have died were rich and have escaped punishment from the courts. The boyfriend (Sam Elliott) tries his very best to get Maggie out of the estate. Eventhough this movie was dealing with evil, it also has mystery and suspicion to go along with. And after that movie, both Ross and Elliott ended up being together 6 years later. Though they are the only American actors in the film, it opens doors to future endeavors. There will be no putdowns in this film. 4 out of 5 stars.

Oh, really?

Dolph Lundgren is a fine athlete, actor, and action man. He was He-Man, The Punisher, and now he's a hardcore cop in "I Come in Peace". Lundgren plays Caine, a very rogue cop who goes on an war hunt for a group of elite drug dealers who has killed his partner. He goes over his head when an alien drug dealer single handedly takes out the competition. He would get help from the Feds. Just says that it's one of the drug chases one would never forget. This movie was pretty comedic in some ways. There's lots of action, don't get me wrong. The movie also opens the door to one of my favorite video game, "Mortal Kombat". It's a lot of fun. I liked the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. That movie is a major keeper in the collection. I know that the box office was so-so. I liked it very much. 4.5 out of 5 stars

A creepy coming of age film
10 January 2019
Most coming of age films are either funny or serious. Well, how about creepy? I Start Counting will have you on the edge of your seat. A 14 year old named Wynne(Jenny Agutter) has a serious crush going on. The object of her affection is her step-brother. She goes to the garbage can and finds a sweater that she made for him wrapped up in paper. Earlier, she found scratches on his back. When she opened it up, she's shocked to see blood on it. Worse, there is a killer on the loose. And he's targeting young women. She and her friend Corrine, stay together. Wynne, always spies on him. She would later find out that he is seeing a very suicidal woman. And her friend who is promiscuous, would do anything to make her friend jealous. To the very end. It's a very good film. Plenty of suspense and wonder. It's not your usual coming of age film. 4 out of 5 stars.

Life is a gamble
9 January 2019
Looking towards the future of life has its meaning. Following your own beat, or the beat of others. Las Vegas, also known as "Sin City. Like New York, it's the "city that never sleeps". The father owns a hotel/casino and his his son is a college student looking forward to go abroad. They clash on the paths one should go on. The father wants the son to be heir of the business. He on the other hand has his own way of thinking. Playing a game with chance can go either way. You can win or lose. The father gets a new wife. The wife who gave him his son, died. And the son ended up with the secretary, the unlucky in love in the beginning. She shouldn't put herself down in the first place. The movie is great, lots to it. Nothing was left out. Life's a gamble, see this film. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

A cross between "The Rocky Horror Show" and "The Shining"
3 January 2019
If you have seen "The Rocky Horror Show" and "The Shining", good. This movie, "Bloody New Year" is a lot more schlocky to me. It's got good horror though, yet there are some things that are commonly usual. It's the end of the 50's, transitioning to the 60's. However, an experiment being performed goes horribly wrong. Everyone in the New Year's Eve party began to disappear, without a trace. So when 5 English people take a boat out to an island resort, it appears deserted. Nothing unusual, except it hasn't been operational since the 1950's. All the clothes are to be in that decade. And the staff, happened to be ghosts. Even the guests who stayed there are ghosts. Each one of the survivors of the boat wreck would later fall victim to the hotel's spirit. Very much exploitive, yet equally fun. It's not for everyone. I enjoyed it very much. 2 out of 5 stars

A "Psycho" wannabe
2 January 2019
The countdown to the New Year is always going to be an exciting thing. However, this one is more chilling. A punk rock icon is hosting a countdown show with fun and anticipation revelling in the air. But when she gets a phone call, the fun turns into terror. In every countdown from each time zone to the new year, a murder occurred. The police are on the job, finding the nutjob. More like a short rate music video than horror, there was plenty of entertainment. The New wavers and punk rockers added flair to the film. It was more like "Psycho" than "Friday the 13th". Very subtle. 2 out of 5 stars

A Bonnie and Clyde wannabe love story
1 January 2019
Everyone knows the story of "Bonnie and Clyde". Well, this movie, "Country Blue", tells the story of an ex-convict who wants to get out of a small Georgia town, and head off to someplace he has never seen. Along with his girlfriend, they would bark off on robbing a bank. Since there's so much dirt going on, he wants to leave town as fast as he can. Since Bonnie and Clyde had the chemistry tp do the deed of robbing people, Bobbie and Ruthie had the love chemistry going on. This low budget film would soon birth the legendary "Smokey and the Bandit" film years later. It's perfect for a late night film. 2 out of 5 stars

Interesting film
30 December 2018
There are martial arts films, and there's "Death Machines". Having three men from different backgrounds is great. Great fighting skills, and also deadly to boot. Their job? Assassination. Who? The competition. When one assassin is on the job, "The Death Machine s" will prove their effectiveness better. But one mistake make them an open target for the police. When they were told to leave no witnesses, they failed to kill one of the karate students during the attacks. They maimed the student, and he recuperates in the hospital. However, the victim of the attack, never gets his revenge on the assassins, but he did gets the see the boss. Too bad that there was never a sequel. It was a very interesting film, but more impact could be made. 2 out of 5 stars.

Blow Out (1981)
8/10
Great thriller, disappointing ending
27 December 2018
Brian DePalma deserves a big deal of credit for his work. In "Blow Out", he brings "Carrie" stars, John Travolta and Nancy Allen. John played a sound producer for movies, and Nancy, a prostitute/make-up artist. John is Jack, who does sound effects who unknowingly recorded a blowout that turns out more sinister. Nancy is Sally, a prostitute/make-up artist who gets involved in a scandal which resulted in a up and rising politician's death. The unlikely duo team up to expose the truth about the blow out was no freak accident. Jack(Travolta) tries his best to get the truth out there, but a sinister strangler named Burke(John Lithgow) will do his best to discredit Jack. DePalma is known for his edgy storytelling, however the results isn't to my liking. One must get the truth about something, yet there's a conniving conspirator who will do his or her best to discredit the protagonist. I know the ending is not what I expected, but the movie was intense all the way. No putdowns whatsoever. 2 out of 5 stars.
