Orphan (2009)
Significantly Thrilling and Outstandingly Portrayed
Orphan, the name says very little for what you get to see in the movie. I watched great horrors/thrillers, this movie with mild brutality and refreshingly thrill creates a great impression on audience pulses. Esther, especially, acted terrific in portraying psychotic behavior and the screenplay was just perfect to make it a picture perfect.
Be it, the twists introduced in the plot in the later half of the movie or the realistic resemblance of the whole plot, the movie is worth your buck on the big screen. Though the movie was 2hr long, it was a clever move by the director to inject some meaningful comedy into the movie so as to maintain the attention of the audience. An interesting point to note is that audience laughed quite a bit for almost 60% of the movie and then were shocked as the plot took twists and turns. This combination of humor along with shock is what makes this movie a brilliant thriller.
All in all the movie was successful in grabbing my attention, believing in such offbeat concepts and lastly giving the worth of my money. Hope you all go watch this terrific movie and feel the heat inside the Air-Conditioned Theaters. My rating for this movie 7.5/10
New York (2009)
A typical YRF with little brains and lots of Bollywood glamor
This is my first review in IMDb and i am compelled to write this after seeing the high review for such a "Not Good Movie". Coming to the point, YRF tried to amalgamate Hollywood into bollywood by shooting this movie in New York. Terrorism is a global issue, the kind of tortures, measures that FBI take, even Indian police take. Take Kasab for instance for the tortures or investigations being done on him. What i say is that the movie could have been shot even in India but they shot in NY just to add that "YRF-Grandiose" combo in order to pull crowds to the movie.
My next point, the script is very loose or not convincing in many parts of the movie. In the climax, john enters an FBI building and installs detonators which is fine but when he enters the building, he was thoroughly scanned for any detonators and comes clean from the scan. If the director wanted him to show like that he should have shown how john manages to fool the security personnel from finding the detonators. The last scene is filled with Katrina trying hard to cry with no tears coming out of her eyes and FBI holding their fire forever and all bollywood crap.
Irfan's performance, Neil's acting are two things that give some relief from all the headache in this movie. All in all, i would say this movie is for people who are crazy about USA, john, Katrina and YRF. Other than that i find nothing great worth the 7.1 review that this movie got. I would vote a 5/10 for this movie .
