...and you thought it was just a building...!
1 June 2022
This series of strange but true events in American History is awesome. I remember the headlines and the near daily coverage , nightly news, that covered the actual happenings way back in the early 70s. However, it was coming to us, the American public, in sections and somewhat difficult to understand , to make a cohesive judgement ... A break in...? At a Washington DC building..? Involving the then President Nixon? How and why remained a jumbled mess . While I would later read more about Watergate through articles and books, this series lays out the basics, does more in 45 minute segments than most before or since.... I'd recommend this to anyone whoever wanted to know just what the hell happened all those years ago and especially...why. By the way and as an extra added incentive, the actors who participated did a wonderful job, especially Sean Penn and Julia Roberts.... Their portrayal of the principal players, John and Martha Mitchell, were spot on...

Worse Bond movie ... Ever...!
26 January 2022
I gave it a five star rating only because I was feeling generous. This movie begins with a fair beginning but as it progresses, it becomes more convoluted and extremely confusing....blink while watching and you might miss a key point or two...maybe...kind of hard to tell since we've got more villains in this one than supposed good guys....whoever thought this one up either never saw the earlier ones, or didn't care... I won't ruin any further what's already on screen , as some just might like it, but I will say this....when writing a script, telling a story, remember the KISS principle.... Keep It Simple, Stupid... The more cluttered, the more characters involved, usually the less enjoyable the plot.... One villian, his or her henchmen, and hero to save the day.... Since 1962, its worked rather well...until now.... Or I got a better idea.....retire Bond.... He and his minions are sixty years old....time to close that chapter....!

Unbelievable and quite astounding...!

I must say, of all things you could say about this movie, one thing stands out ... JAWS did to the beach and summer crowd what PSYCHO did to showers...! You know you're on to something special when it has that affect on people....!

Hooray for Hollywood....

What a series.... Thirteen episodes, each designed to a specific theme....all centered on an industry, while not a total American invention, certainly taken to a level in American history, unseen elsewhere and all within a century... Every thing has a beginning, a middle and an end,... However, what we see here is the beginning with no end in sight and let me tell you, what a beginning.....!

Pure Delight and thensome.....
14 April 2020
Back in the day when it was fashionable to join swim clubs , usually located some distance away from where you lived, little thought was ever given to those who worked there... This movie combines the life and times of when these clubs were around, the separation of those who belonged , those who wished they did and the boys and girls who made it all possible , by working at these clubs as a summer job...

When is something so bad, it's good...?
17 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
When it's an Ed Wood production...... Not thought of as being much (of anything) during his time, his movies have gained cult status and enjoyed by millions as truly originals, which they certainly are. As for Glen or Glenda, subject and plot dealing with cross dressing, bondage and other odd sexual preferences among men and women, acting is terrible but topics are intriguing.... It is a ruddy shame he never lived to see his work once panned so dearly is as much admired and loved today.....

Great Expectations that never materialized.....

What could've been a tight murder mystery ended up as a vanity piece and too much, too many introspection of personal turmoul.....this might play well overseas but here in the states, we use the fast forward button....I have it a five as a gift but really deserved a two or three......

CREEPY.....! And spelled in all caps...!

Not sure how it did in the theaters but this is one selective Hitchcock type movie without Alfred, complete with disturbed characters and weirdo doctors. I promise you this. Once you begin watching you'll watch to the end just to see how it ends...and even then you'll wonder how it ended. Strange, very strange.

Blade Runner (1982)

One of the top ten movies (ever made, bar none)...
7 December 2018
An absolutely amazing movie that when seen , grabs your sense of reality and shakes it into perspective. Set in a time that isn't far off from where we are today, and while it deals with science and fiction as if both were interchangeable, with tech as it is evolving as we speak, the morality and morals aren't that far off..... we create and then what and how do we do with our creations? It also addresses God and beliefs in the closest human form. I promise when seeing this film, you will be discussing the how's and why's of the plot for some after and, yes, I do find it rather timeless.....

Whoa Nelly....!
7 December 2018
This is a rarity , in movies any way , as it is close to the original book form and overall plot. Excellent casting, not necessarily factual in all states but close enough to do more than entertain . To keep things straight, there are more than a few people, in and out of the military, who strongly believe General Patton was silenced, still to this day. This storyline has it over stolen gold but that's one of a few theories regarding the general's death. Patton was quite outspoken about the Russians and with strong ties to the better than possible General Dwight D. Eisenhower being proposed as a presidential candidate, the problem at hand is how or what to do with keeping Patton quiet....Many a slip twixt the cup and the lip, as the saying goes....this movie offers one such twixt.

The Frozen Dead, Chilled and ready to go......!
31 October 2018
This movie , and types thereof, is primarily classified as "schlock" and popcorn features of their ilk shown , once , in drive-ins , catering to the younger set, myself included, but don't let that minor detail fool you. A strong European cast with the American actor, Dana Andrews , as a featured player. Not the best but certainly not the worst. If you are into creepy music, sci fi driven plots with the usual mad scientist running the show, this one's for you. A most excellent Halloween movie, best seen late at night, lights out, a very large bowl of popcorn and no where to go in the morning...... Bon appetite...!

The Frozen Dead, chilled and ready to go.......!
31 October 2018
It's primarily known as a "schlock " movie, drive-in , popcorn flick made for the younger set of the time, myself included, but it has its top side and a rather good cast..... I've seen movies with a stellar cast , the plot wanting and therefore dull and uninteresting. I've also seen movies with unknown actors , a good strong plot that held my interest from beginning to end. This movie falls somewhere in between.....but then, I'd watch water boil if Dana Andrews was boiling the water. I admit. I'm a long time devotee of Andrews. If you are into horror movies, sci fi flicks with creepy music and spooky backdrop, this one's for you. Most excellent Halloween movie, seen late at night with the lights off, lots of popcorn and no where to go in the morning.

Amazing......and quite a thrill !
21 October 2018
When this series followed the feature film , of the same decade, I thought this was most amazing and awesome series ever..... Nothing like it , until Star Trek, had ever been seen on the small screen. Rather dated now but just as enticing and when watching the series , when seen on TV, I'm 18 again and that in its self is worth the while. Ten stars? All things considered, it , the whole series , deserves way more.....

What happened?
19 October 2018
One season and, bam, it's history.....one of the best sci-fi series on TV in years, totally underrated and should make a come back . Jeeze Louise, they are doing a whole lot of up dates and remakes, most of which they shouldn't and those who deserve a second chance never see the light of a new day.

i agree with those who saw and liked the movie. i too can not understand the bashing it received. the make-up was good, not the best, but the person & plot was way out there. mr. eastwood covered all points of hoover's life - no surprises at least for me. the actors took their roles quite seriously and were, for the most part, spot on. i lived during half of this man's life and can attest that he and he alone lived up to the old axiom: absolute power corrupts absolutely! bravo mr. eastwood. you did it again and produced a marvel. not a picture for everyone's taste but way superior to the other crap in your local downtown theaters. oh pooh to the pundits. when it comes down to basic facts, it is the ticket buyer & holder to rate the movie and this movie rates 10 out of 10 stars!
