Quem Vai Ficar com Mário? (2021)
Actually a remake of an Italian film by gay auteur Ferzan Ozpetek
"Loose Cannons" (a.k.a. Mine vaganti) came out in 2010 and has an IMDb rating of 7.2, considerably higher than this film, which rates 5.7. Maybe because of how things have changed, especially humankind's understanding of LGBT issues and gender versus sex, etc. In this case, if you open your mind a bit, and consider the possibilities that one or more of the characters are not gay, but pansexual (I did not say for sure they is/are, just asked you to consider the possibilities), even if he or they, themselves are not aware. Then the circumstances might make more sense. In an ideal world, would it not be great if we fell in love with people, and not sexes? I am gay, so don't think I am trying to talk anyone into anything, gay, straight, pan, or whatever. I did not decide to be gay, and straight people do not decide to be straight, but what about pansexual people, what do they decide or not decide? I think that is the basis of this movie, and the original Italian film it is based on. How about you? I'll let you be the judge, but in the meantime, if we can look at this and the film it is based on with the romantic comedy lens, maybe it is something we can laugh along with?
Gone, But Not Forgotten (2003)
good story, poor execution
To keep my review simple, this movie has a good, enjoyable story (although there are a couple of holes in the plot and/or time line), but it was clearly a low budget film, the production values are poor, it was clearly filmed on video, and not celluloid film photography, and most of the actors are mediocre at best. I give this movie a 5 out of 10 rating based on the very good story alone, and if the production and acting were better, I am sure I would have rated this movie higher. It is interesting that the subject matter and theme of the film is still as topical and relevant in 2011 as it was when filmed in 2003, which is not always the case. Some movies are clearly obsolete in subject matter or plot, but this movie is not.
