This movie is good
7 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Having read most of Simon Rich's work, I must say Sell Out was one of his best stories in my opinion. The movie changes quite a bit from the book, cut's out the main character's girlfiend, and focuses much more heavily on the bonds of family. They create a much clearer arch for Ben's character, than Simon in the book. The opening of the film set up the scenario quite nicely. The film is much more political than the book, and sympathetic to the modern generation. In some ways this leads to some positive changes to the story, I do miss Herchell's awe at Simon's lazyness in the book, and I think making Ben a hard working entrepenuer undermines Herschell being able to show Ben how much he takes modern technology and convenience for granted. The movie also makes it seem like things just come easy to Herschell, and you don't see him working hard in the movie, nearly as much as he works in the book. Overall I like this version of the story, it has more heart, but it does weaken the criticism of the modern generation that the book so hilariously gives.

Wonderful film

David Wain tells a true story in a creative way, creating the kind of the film his subject would have written, although a little sadder. Every actor does a superb job, Will Forte hits the perfect melancholic note. Dom Gleeson as usual is excellent. This is a wonderful tribute to Doug.

Detroiters (2017–2018)

Goofy with Heart

Detroiters is a show that is willing to be absolutely ridiculous while still telling a story that takes place in the real world. The show is shot on location in Detroit and the guest stars are usually people from detroit. That's the best part of the show, detroit itself is a character in the show, one that the two stars make fun of in a loving way. Detroit is as essential to Detroiters as New York is to When Harry Met Sally. The adds made in the show are based on the adds the two stars of the show watched growing up in detroit. In real life Tim is married and Sam is single. In real life both of the lead actors are best friends. This show is wonderfully original and surprisingly autobiographical, there's nothing else like it. If you are ready to watch a show that is orriginal, funny, and heartwarming, watch detroiters.

Haters gonna hate a inters gonna ain't
3 January 2017
If you enjoy James Franco being James Franco you will love this movie. If you laughed at James Franco's pretentious art in this is the end, and his characters naivety in The Interview you will find more here. Listen this movie was never meant to win best picture or take itself seriously at all. Go into the theatre wanting to laugh and you will find plenty of reasons to. Zoey Deutch play her role with ease. Meghan Melanie is a blast. John Hamburg is again railed by the critics for no reason. He wrote Phillip Seymore Hoffman to hilarity in Along Came Polly, and he wrote Meet The Parents. This guy knows how to write comedies, and direct them.
