Amar Singh Chamkila (2024)

Brilliantly told story

Although some people who are not Punjabi might find some scenes boring specially the songs overall it is a brilliantly shot film. The story shows rise of a poor man to the heights unimaginable and jealousy and envy of established people who could not tolerate him. It also shows the artistic and human side of chamkila which was not shown in earlier Punjabi films. But kiddos to imtiaz Ali he captured the era , the culture balancing Punjabi for Hindi audience as well crafting a totally artistic movie which I am sure most of the cinema lovers will be fully enjoying . This film will not disappoint you.

Jee Ve Sohneya Jee (2024)

A good watch then those no sense comedies

This was totally unexpected movie just saw it on chaupal. Zero promotions and no usual comedians so never heard about it . Started with low expectations from the start. Although there are some screenplay flaws but they are for totally perfect score.

The film is overall different two characters from different countries meeting up in an unusual setup was good enough. No double meaning jokes not overtly comedic , food drama . The best thing was that total characters are not that well known of course there is simi chahal and the guy playing Ali character might be a well known face of pakistan but overall it was good to see new faces.

More films of these kind should be made and promoted if you truly want to see good punjabi films.

12th Fail (2023)

A brilliant film but I have question

This film is surely inspiring for any student or anybody who wants to do something in life and achieve. The life of main protagonist is what keeps you booked from a village boy inspired to become an officer does all it takes to achieve his goal. All the supporting cast is equally good. There is barely any dull moment the pace of story telling is perfect. I was somewhat intrigued by the real maoj Kumar'secture that upsc , exams and interviews are basically structured to find the utmost devoted to development of the country and are utmost deshbhakt uncorruptable officers. Yet some how I don't know we don't see them to often? What happens in the system? Who knows. But excellent watch. Highly recommended.

Dry Day (2023)

Surprised by the negative reviews. Wach it now

Man am I surprised to see negative reviews on this one. I mean it was'nt perfect but it was one of the best comedies I have seen in recent times. All the charaacters even extras had good presence.

The lead actor Gunnu and his wife have been excellent. The screeenplay has all arcs and acts that you expect from ta good script. Dialogues were as funny as one expect. The second half has all the twist and turns and cliffhangers that are usually lacking in plain jane comedies nowdays. Overall its a good film that depicts exactly what many alcoholics do and it was 2023 best comedy. I bet you to suggest any other. Go watch.

The Archies (2023)

Hinglish horror

I had been an admant Archies reader and I am so sorry to say that if I have come to the conclusion that this movies is marry shellys Frankenstein Archies, I would like to see the end very same an isolated Frankenstein isolated with his creator in an abandoned island . The least Pya could have done was introduce the characters to the new audience the viewer has zero attachment to the green park, the audience has zero clue on who is Archies who is Monika who is juggerhead. Everything is so messed up if I couldn't see it half way through I am sure most have not. Over all I'll say Zoya Akhtar is solely responsible for this Frankenstein creation. Even Robert de niro looked good in marry shellys Frankenstein. Kuddos to Zoya for destroying a classic. Ban her.

Animal (I) (2023)

A film with some weakness but I'll watch again

Oh this is some film I had mixed feelings about . I mean first half is impeccable and I really didn't like some intimate or extra scenes which director included. The second half was over 20 minutes too long I am sure being director and editor he was having a hard time editing it but he really should have that is the only boring part . He will loose a lot of audience on that part but strangely I am recommending all my friends to watch it and after 10nyears it might be the first movie I'll reqat h again in cinema but that would be mainly due to songs and supporting actors . Ranbir is of course above the rim. The director needs to learn to cut scenes which are not needed . But why 10? Coz directors mistake ain't characters mistake. Bobby deol character was used extensively in trailer mr ranga reddy couldn't do justice to his role rather he spoiled my time in showing useless scenes of female lead in a bra and some other intimate scenes. May be he needs to get laid and get his frustration out I don't want to see same crap if their is a second part. Mr vanga get laid and focus on characters.

Painter (2023)

A stage show gone wrong

The film is prime example of how not to make a film. Story is simple a painter paints a painting that is similar to a girl. The dialogues and story is so poetic and bogus it seems like a stage show. The characters are totally dummies and story arcs are all messed up. There is no theme there is no story and there are only caricature characters. I wonder what writer want to tell here. A painter paints and meets her in real life , the painter is too into himself and girl is too much into her own self. Then they mix film making process in the film. Any ways a bad film you can easily miss I am sure I don't have to say to save your 2 hours of life coz you will close it in first 20 minutes.

Yankee (2023– )

A well made copy but works

The series started good and frankly all characters play out good. The centeral character is also good. Series is well shot a nice addition to Punjabi series that's why I am giving a solid 8 . But unfortunately it ain't original story telling so deducted 2 marks for it. Atleast the first 4 episodes and main story line is copied from u turn. But let's see what writer does with the next plot turns in next episodes. Overall a solid one time watch. Chaupal is surely producing good content. I would just like something original but that's me an avid movie watcher most will enjoy this series so yeah do watch.

Jawan (2023)

One of best srk movie but some flaws

Biggest flaw is Vijay sathepathi he dosent even match up to the character of srk. I mean come one that guy can't speak straight Hindi he should have learned it from super heroes of South India like rajnikant . Speaking in accent is stupid and his monotonous acting is just the only reason I gave it 8 and not 10 as of srk he has just nailed it every aspect of the character. The director of course ain't perfect too many random songs too frequent. So basically the story which of course is written by the director himself , if story and srk would have been given to someone and minus Vijay the film would have been great. But anyways srk nails it.

Sidhus of Southall (2023)

Bravo navniat and iknoor for delivering another below average

Don't know how these directors get the movie . If navniat wasn't enough we have new kid on the block iknoor I mean who could have missed this generation biggest singer sidhu moose wala and still make an average film. So these two guys are allone responsible for making this bad movie. The story started amazing the characters were something any good writer could come up with. Sargun Mehta was at her best but no unfortunately Punjabi cinema is stuck with these below average story tellers who have all the budget all the star power but they only care about their paycheck rather then the content. I have seen better YouTube content.

Tufang (2023)

When story telling is bad then llulbais

Ok so saw this film on chaupal. I must admit I have seen bad stories which were produced by some novices this has to be cherry on cake I mean 🍒 on 🎂. The writer makes you wonder for 40 minutes to understand what is story all about. He forgets that in 15 minutes you have to tell the basic premise. But perhaps he thinks Punjabi film viewers are sheeps whom he can feed any fodder. Overall I am giving 3 for the effort of the team. And I would request director and writer to please write and direct something good. I know you need to feed your family and bring bread on the table but kindly don't insult art.

Teefa In Trouble (2018)

One of the best

Now here is a review from India I have seen it many times on Netflix and I usually show It to my friends who haven't seen a Pakistani movie . As I was seeing it today I just saw I never gave review. So here it is , it's the best Pakistani movie on Netflix it's almost like ddlj of Pakistan, acting ,screenplay, actors all are on the spot. There is absolutely no dull moment and film moves at a smooth pace . Ali zafar is at his best would love to see some more of his movies. Anyone who loves Hindi or Punjabi movies no one should miss this masterpiece. It will absolutely amaze you with wwell crafted story telling.

Haddi (2023)

Nawazzudin and his mentor have lost it

Soo sad to write this review it hurts to even write it. Nawazzudin and anurag kashyap , people who encouraged me to be a writer and have more indulgence in movies , seeing them both in this abomination of a movies was heart breaking to say the least. Nawazzudin has completely lost it his earlier movie with that I stagrammer was also an abomination I don't know if he is broke and cannot say no to bad roles but I still can't grasp with the fact that anurag kashyap wasted his acting skills on this such a bad told story , I mean why?? Is it a post 50 year syndrome where people loose there brain function . I mean sorry guys I understand it's all about feeding the family bringing bread on table but it has nothing to do with film making art and I am sure you know it too.

One Piece (2023– )

Never saw anime but this is great

I am seeing a lot of anime fans giving it an 8 ok I understand it because they already know the story the characters they still saw live action which is commendable but they should know that its a solid 10 for someone who dosent know story and has never seen the anime. It's totally a fresh fantasy world with almost unimaginable plot and characters that resonates with everybody at some level or the other. The way story starts as a collection of underdogs taking on a big bad world of badiea is absolutely amazing. Each character is has a beautiful back story. Anyways my character limit is met in simple word watch it NOW.

Carry on Jatta 3 (2023)

Gippy degrading Punjabi cinema just like his singing skills

Ok I saw it on chaupal I had read enough reviews to know that it was a slap stick comedy with caricature character and typical non sensical dailogue which naresh kathuria might be proud of coz that's all he can write . But none the less kuddos to Gippy grewal who served this piece of crap in golden foil like an expensive steak of salt bae. And many unsuspecting families went to see it just due to the hype. I am sure many were embarassed but that dosent stop Gippy having his happy way to bank with 100 crore gross tag.

No doubt like his lack lustre singing he has proved that audience can be fooled. All the best to Gippy but in a world where people go to watch neetu shattaran wala aur bau bau it ain't suprising.

Twisted Metal (2023– )

Carazzyyy show

I saw this with really low expectations and first episode didn't held it good but being familiar to the game I saw second and I must say this is really different show. It is not only guns and cars as I thought it to be . The story and character evolve in a way I didn't imagined.

Is hard to exain what is different it ain't mad Max it ain't a zombie apocalypse it ain't nuclear war blowout kind of concept.

Its good and different the story of a delievery man working in a world where all cities are enclosed and he goes on a trip to fetch some thing . Ok my 600 words of crap are over all I wanna say is watch it.

Tiku Weds Sheru (2023)

What was this absolutely disoriented

Who would have thought that a instagrammer would be featured with one the best actors. Avneet Kaur does try I don't mind her below average acting skills the problem lies with the story, screenplay and absolutely rubbish character arcs. Firstly the casting itself is bad there seems absolutely no chemistry between two it seems more like a bad Instagram reel. The whole story is unrealistic. And if the film was not bad enough to watch the ending is such an unbelievable mess that it has to be seen to believed . But wait I just saw the end it says produced by kangana ranaut ok now I understand why the film looks so mad maybe she wanted to vent her anger out.

Panchayat (2020– )

Only saw season 2 how I missed 1

Brilliant yet simple. Why do you like such a simple story is something I am not sure of but I loved it. All kuddos to writer director and actors every actor is perfectly featured. Sachiv ji is heart of this series I am sure now I'll watch season 1 and which ever comes next .

The last episode is what is the only heartbreaking moment of this season I mean it was all fun and games I don't know why they choose such a ending but that is perhaps reality of villages . Anyways I am just filling 600 word limit . The only one word review for this series is brilliant and must not miss series of all times. As good as malgudi days.

Bholaa (2023)

I mean what's with these stories

I have seen some good south cinema but 90 percent of it and it's remixes are like these inflated hero's with almost marvel comics super hero characters. 200 man against one what is wrong with these people there must be some social and psychological issues behind stories like these. Anyways other than usual kill em all single vigilante and unbelievable villains what I didn't like about it was no solid story of the main character , the main story line is almost comical . Only after 2 hours of view time you are told bhola is some unstoppable force before that he is just another run of mill guy. Basically what they should have established before interval is something they reveal at the end. Action is good but screenplay is bad at best.

Gaslight (I) (2023)

Did I miss something to give it a 8

I am half down this movie . And frankly the .Movie is slow moving that you fairly miss the point. The characters are too shallow for their own good. The story premise itself is mundane A crippled child goes back to her tormented house for no apparent reason after many years and her dad is conveniently missing even though he is a king of sorts. There are random incidents of paranormal . At this point I don't care if the story turns out totally different . Maybe her dad is alive or not and she is having a panic attacks maybe they want to cure her psychologically or whatever the story just doesn't give you enough in first hour to grasp your curiosity.

Who ever made it should stick to comedy thriller ain't your forte.

Carry On Jatta 2 (2018)

What a let down.

Carry on Jatt's was good but this was as crap as Gippy being a so called singer. It offends in so many ways it seems the makers of movie have taken viewers as duffers. It seems like a Nukala Nayak directed by a bad director. What could have been fun filled version of first it's totally opposite. There is absolutely no story Gippy doesn't even seem to be interested in the film. Sonam Bajwa is one fabulous looking women who deserves to be at madam Tussaud's museum, coz acting ain't her forte but surely she needs to be in that museum.

Story is shallow and that eats good characters like ghugi , Bhalla and Ben dhillon. Of course over acting di dukaan Binu dhillon is not at his best. It's a dumb show and I just wrote a review to know the burgers who made it, I had high anticipation.

Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne (2022)

Certainly a good watch

Diljit Dosanjh is one actor who adds fun to the character his timing makes almost a mundane film look good. However this film itself is good and adding to it is diljit Dosanjh. The screenplay and dailogues are absolutely hilarious. There is not even a minute you will get bored . The story is about 3 guys who want to get rich using elderly people and the story is just about believable except the end part I think that is where the writer lost the plot. But overall it is a very fine one time watch much better than others released last year .

Cinematography background music and dialogues are which are a commendable job.

Golgappe (2023)

When you make the worst

Saw the movie on zee5 and frankly whatever little.expectations I have from Binu even that seems too much. The whole movie plot is messed up. The story or dialogues don't make you laugh or even take it seriously. The cinematography and direction seems like done by a novice.

There is excess of overacting but that seems to be the fault of script itself.

The plot is almost like hers Pheri.

It is a low budget spinoff of the classic hit I wonder the horr of people who saw it in cinema. It is high time people reject films which are an absolute insult to Punjabi film going audience. Overall I never give 1 rating but this is the one.

Tere Layi (2022)

A decent watch

Frankly there are no memorable films of harish verma that i remember. But this film was a little different and i must say better of the lot. Sweetaj brar is new kid in town but seems decent she can improve. Rishi madam is as always good . The story is about two people in strange kind of love. Mostly it is about one sided love .

Direction is ok cinematography could have been better and story moves a little bit slow but seems ok. Any ways in this growing industry of punjabi cinema it is still better then a lot of other run of the mill films that we see on chaupal . So i do recommend one time watch sure it is .

Taj: Divided by Blood (2023– )

Amazing and nothing else

Anyone can debate history and dig it but as a film this whole series is just amazing.

The story the pace , direction and potryal of historic characters that we have read about in our history books is just astounding.

I will not get into details of the story but there is absolutely no other story or film that is a good as this of course minus the classic deleep Kumar film that still stands out . But this one is not as subtle and brings all characters to life as never seen or read before.

As a film It stands out who ever played saleem is good only one guy known is nassiruddin shah . Loved it absolutely must watch.
