Road Train (2010)
Such a pity that it is not possible to rate films on IMDb with minus figures because THIS particular effort would qualify to be on that scale. When there is NOTHING positive to be written in a review about a film I cannot see the point in wasting time. The so-called storyline was so dysfunctional I couldn't understand it.The two actresses Sophie Lowe and Georgina Haig were obviously cast as 'eye-candy' and that was the ONLY slightly positive thing about the film which is a pity because I have seen some excellent Australian films,eg. Picnic at Hanging Rock which I enjoyed even though it was NOT historically factual, Razorback,Wolf Creek to name just three. Complete waste.Avoid
Lake Noir (2013)
Don't lose time from your life watching THIS!
Very quick review for this really bad film,Amateur acting - explains why the majority of the cast NEVER MADE another movie. Of course it's ALWAYS a great idea to come up with a storyline that requires at least half the film to be shot in the dark. That way the Producer - I'm assuming there was one - can pass off this old crap as a 'horror' movie? I was more scared when I slept next to a cemetery as a 12yr old Cub!!Some reviewers have given points because there was a flash of someones tits, and THEY weren't THAT great!Boring predictable story, bad script, absolutely terrible acting, typical American 'boys away weekend'.Less painful having teeth pulled than watching this crock.
Juarez, Mexico (2005)
In my 'Top 20' worst-ever films!
I was really surprised when I saw this rubbish had accumulated the high score of 2.2 because I have been asking sites like Amazon and IMDb to have a 'ZERO' rating because THAT is all THIS deserves. Just when you think you've seen something appalling and it's NOT possible to find ANYTHING worse something somehow always pops up. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING about this movie is c**p.I've seen more professional acting in a 10yrs. old school play.Cahill looks almost like a young David Carradine when he played the part of 'Grasshopper' in the 60's or 70's Karate TV series but isn't as convincing and Carradine was BAD in that! The fight scenes are absolutely terrible, so bad that you can see the 'misses' when they should contact. It's more akin to a SPOOF? When the pistols were fired they sounded like 'cap-guns', there were no attacks on the girls or women in the film - not on screen anyway. The viewer was left in 'limbo' and had to guess what had happened which wasn't difficult as you could see what was going to happen 5 minutes before it did? Many reviewers wrote off a film with I believe Jennifer Lopez on the same subject BUT at least the acting was OK, the storyline and plot was good and believable and interesting and was on a different level to this 'effort' that SHOULD have been canned and NOT finished or released.Anyone associated with this is un- employable!
The Hollow (2013)
One of the worst!
I have to say I've seen some really excellent paranormal/ demonic type films like The Exorcist with Linda Blair and Exorcist 3 with the late George C Scott and also Pennywise being 3 of the best but of course they were quite big budget movies and by reknown studios and then we get to the other end of the scale and have something like THIS.When a film is as bad as this I generally look for a 'saving grace' or two in order to say SOMETHING good or nice about it.Sometimes however it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to give a film more than 1 star - and like this film, THAT is only because the reviewer is unable to give it a 'ZERO' rating which is what it honestly deserves. There is NOTHING I can say about it that is favourable. The acting by the 'actors' on screen, 3 in total is very bad and amateurish. The plot or screenplay which was written by the 'lead actor' if it isn't wrong to give him that grandiose title makes no real sense. The filming, a lot with the favoured style-of-the-day hand-held camera is poor, the music is uninteresting. The whole thing is a boring unmitigated disaster where you continue to hope Something, ANYTHING will happen to maintain your concentration.
L'ultimo squalo (1981)
A cheap, rubbishy Jaws rip-off - AVOID!
I'll keep it short. There is NO budget amount shown for this film and my estimate is about $10. I can understand the film studio that made 'JAWS' suing the makers of this effort because SO MANY of the events in the original and best shark film made were copied in this. When the only 2 actors I had heard of were heading the cast in this I immediately knew it was certain to be bad as both James Franciscus and Vic Morrow were only ever 'B' movie fodder and the remainder of the cast were akin to amateurs. Plenty of 'crocodile tears' all of which were totally unconvincing. As has been mentioned the helicopter can clearly be seen to be a model. On a par with Sharkando.
Didn't expect much and WASN'T disappointed!
STEER WELL CLEAR of this movie unless you are unable to sleep and then watch it and you will sleep like a babe. When I saw Klaus Kinski's name shown first as the 'star' of the film I knew it would be BAD because I like everyone else instinctively know that certain actors CANNOT carry a film on their own.You could see most of what was going to happen about 10 minutes before the scene arrived.Kinski to me seemed as if he was trying to speak like the late Peter Lorre but he is neither as good or exciting!Talia Balsam was much better in her role as Lori, one of several boarders in the large house belonging to Dr.Gunther, son of a Nazi who became more insane as the movie progressed.Other parts were played by actors I'd never heard of - either before or since and the budget was probably less than $10K, at least that's what it seemed like.
Open Range (2003)
One of the GREAT Westerns.
There is absolutely nothing I can criticise or find fault with in this movie which I genuinely believe to be one of the greatest Western films ever made. The two leads Robert Duvall (Boss Spearman) and Kevin Costner(Charlie Waite) are so convincing as 'freegrazers', and are firmly supported by a host of other players,Abraham Benubi as 'Mose'and Annette Bening as Miss Sue, among the most standout characters. The cinematography is beautiful, the music score is so wonderfully apt and really there is little more to say other than these 2 consummate actors who have previously turned in some really fine performances really surpass themselves in this.Costner has had one or two unfortunate mishaps along the way but more good than bad and Duvall who was brilliant in The Godfather was over-shadowed by two of cinemas all-time greats,Pacino and Brando.
Around the World in 80 Days (1989)
I happened across a DVD of this film by chance because it was one a friend passed to me and which was a 'freebie' apparently given away in a national newspaper. Prior to watching this, I was really only interested in the Crime and Western genres. Once I saw this film which is truly delightful in every way I have treasured the DVD and this film is in my Top 10. Why? The casting is perfect. The acting is superb and there are so MANY wonderful performances that it would be very difficult to list them all.Pierce Brosnan is brilliant as Phileas Fogg, Julia Nickson captivating as the Princess and Eric Idle is both funny and serious in his role as Foggs' man-servant. The filming is stunning and the screenplay is again perfect. There is little more I CAN or indeed NEED to say. It is a film to settle-down with on a Winters evening and enjoy.
Love's Long Journey (2005)
Wonderful film, excitement and a nice message.
Firstly I'd like to say how proud I think Michael Landon Sr. is with his sons work. I can't understand why people constantly compare films with original books because there is never normally the time for films to replicate what is contained in a book although changes in story etc can be off-putting I know. That said, I personally liked this film, the characters, preferred the actress Erin Cottrell in the lead role and thought there were some excellent performances from actors in other parts like John Savage,Frank McRae and William Morgan Sheppard POSS.SPOILER :-who had one of the best lines of the film,it certainly makes you swallow hard, when he said 'This is the first present I've ever got' or words to that effect when Missie gave all the Ranch-hands something for Christmas. There are Christian messages in the film in more than one place and I thought this made the film.It was very easy going and nice to watch and I would recommend it to anyone.
Polar Storm (2009)
You can ignore the really BAD reviews!
As far as this movie goes it's pretty safe to say that its' not going to win any awards so I have to agree with those reviewers that have said it it isn't in their top 10 so-to-speak. However, I DON'T agree with several who seem to have gone out of their way to castigate the film in every way possible either. It's obvious that the budget was low and bearing that in mind I think the overall result wasn't that bad at all. The acting was fairly sound, Jack Coleman, Holly Elissa and Terry Mulligan were convincing in their respective roles - and I think one reviewers 'apology' for Canada producing such a rubbish film was both unnecessary and over-the-top. The subject matter about shifting Poles causing Magnetic Storms after a Meteor hits earth is a well-used one we know BUT this WAS really more of a family-film type entertainment and NOT in the genre of Alien or Predator. The scenery used was impressive and I think as 'Family Entertainment' there has been a lot worse.
Canadian Pickers (2011)
In a word - fantastic!
I can't remember ever giving a film, TV show or any other programme of any genre the full mark before and I do so with this show simply because to me at least it achieves everything. Now I know there are going to be detractors who read this who say or think 'how can anyone give 10/10 to such a simplistic piece of reality TV?' Well, if in the reviewers eyes THAT particular show is informative,is amusing,is interesting, has beautiful scenery throughout with people bartering their wares all the way and the two main protagonists so knowledgeable in their field what more can you want? And in MY eyes THIS programme DOES have ALL THAT and more.My only complaints or disappointments was when I found that the series had been cancelled and that, so far at least I have been unable to find it on DVD to purchase. If anyone knows different please add some note as to where it can be found and bought.
A Truly Mind-Boggling Episode WITHOUT Explanation!
I saw this episode on Spanish TV when it was shown on Sat.25th Jan 2014 and I know it is some time after the date it was made BUT believe me the part of the episode that is about AREA 51 is absolutely WITHOUT EXPLANATION - Possible Spoiler Alert To Anyone who has yet NOT seen this series or episode. As Ben, Austin and Jael took on the investigation to go to the now infamous Area 51 they couldn't have had any idea of what they were going to see or what was going to happen at the very end of the episode but it happened there, right in front of everyones eyes, on camera without warning, expectation or rehearsal when the trio who were in different locations outside and around the site of the base situated there were thinking they were about to be apprehended by the base security who had been 'observing' them from the hill-top since they had arrived. Suddenly the lights of the base runway which WERE illuminated went out and 'something' which was brightly lit appeared from the sky traveling at an extreme speed, far in excess of the speed of any 'normal' aircraft and landed on the runway which lit-up again AFTER the thing had landed. The three presenters were virtually speechless and none of the trio were able to explain what the 'thing' was.
American Restoration (2010)
Restorer for Millionaires Customers ONLY!
I first saw Rick Dale whenI watched 'Pawn Las Vegas' with the mean Harrison Family who I know had a business to run BUT their idea of Profit Margins gave a new meaning to the word! However getting back to Mr Dale every customer I see that visits HIS particular yard MUST BE a Millionaire OR at least have a few thousand dollars stashed away that they aren't going to miss because every client is given a quote in 'telephone numbers' and never seems to blink an eyelid, no matter how small the job? I'm not saying he isn't worth his work BUT you'd HAVE TO BE financially very well-off to even contemplate visiting him, NOT for ordinary folk for sure.
Refreshing and honest British cops!
Two other reviewers have already run through the plot of this 'TV. Film' so I don't want to bore any readers of this review with unnecessarily having to re-read more or less the same details yet again. I call it a 'TV Film' because I saw it in one continuous episode on Spanish TV but in English - thankfully - so NOTHING was lost in the language translation as so often happens in these cases.I think this second-part was equally as good and as interesting as the previous one and disagree with one of the other reviewers completely. I found the writing, transferring it from book to screen first-class and the acting the same. The lead Olivia Williams who plays DS.Charlie Zailer is no raving beauty BUT there is something worldly about her that makes you understand what interests DC.Waterhouse-Darren Boyd who manages to retain his deadpan face throughout this film as in the first. The storyline is good,dead-husband,ex-wife suspect-her new lover suspect, another woman thrown into the pot-previous history involving parental abuse all adds up to an exciting mix? Veteran TV/Film actor Peter Wight plays bullying DI Prouse fantastically-I can't imagine much H/R in HIS station, and Eva Birtwhistle, Theo James and Emily Beecham add to what is an extremely well-cast affair.Well recommended.
Sea Patrol: One Perfect Day (2011)
The end of the road?
*THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS* I have to say that the Australian TV Network DO really put-out some damn good quality TV series AND make some bloody good films along the way AND they've turned out some very good actors and at 65 I like to think I've seen one or two of them and SEA PATROL has been consistently, one of the best on an episode by episode ratio with excellent writing, good action,it not being stuck in a studio and very good acting. In this the final episode 'Dutchies' long-held suspicions about Madeleine batting for both teams are given some some credibility when the 'Hammersley' are searching the Coral Sea for a boat carrying a dirty-bomb because although they don't initially find it, what they DO find sets off a chain of events that lead to a situation so tragic it effects the lives of the whole 'family' on HMAS Hammersley. Have the tissues nearby.
Lake Placid 2 (2007)
A real Turkey and then some!
I really couldn't believe that this film was made, that is a sequel, after its 'oh so bad predecessor was so bad itself and such a failure. This bummer however enters 'new-territory' when it comes to BAD films and really shows ALL the reasons NOT to do a sequel when the original film was itself trash because this has NO saving graces whatsoever. The writing and storyline makes no sense and is neither dramatic or funny. The acting is less than professional and unconvincing and the Croc looks wooden and COMPLETELY unreal - I assume it WAS done with CGI? Whatever or however it was created was cheap, nasty and again unconvincing. As for the stupid girls flashing their tits even THEY were uninteresting because their roles were totally shallow as that's ALL they were included in the film for.Watching paint dry would be far more interesting.
Knight and Day (2010)
The leads didn't gel well!
I know this was billed as a Comedy/Drama and I went into it with an open mind because I really DON'T think Tome Cruise does comedy well BUT I thought 'Heck, let's give the guy a break and see?' Unfortunately my first instincts were right and unfortunately again in MY mind at least he was pitted-up-against someone who I personally think ISN'T very funny or maybe it's just the material she gets? Either way it seemed to me that the two of them made hard work of it all with Diaz playing what has become her usual 'ditzy' bimbo role - POSSIBLE SPOILER - When she lets loose with the Kalashnikov or whatever in the factory when Cruise and her go to see his friend, played by Paul Dano - SO OLD HAT NOW. OK THEY get to travel to a fair few places on the Globe, there is a 'basis of a story' there IF you can follow it BUT it's really a bit of a mess and hard work. He's done some very good work in my opinion - A Few Good Men springs to mind but I think he should stick to straight roles.
A waste of time!
I've enjoyed watching John Cusack in a few of his movies since I first saw him in The Journey of Natty Gann many moons ago BUT unfortunately in this I think his talents were wasted because the film was completely devoid of any real logic? Even allowing for the title Serendipity - who in their right mind would wish to leave Bridget Moynahan to seek out Kate Beckinsale? I could understand HER wishing to leave selfish Lars (John Corbett) who put his music, contracts, travelling etc BEFORE her and every situation? The whole story became one boring merry-go-round with the 'couple' keep missing each-other and unfortunately the one natural comedy actor in the film, Eugene Levy wasn't given enough screen time for his character to develop.
Better than the 4.4 rating it's been given!
This film has NO big budget, NO A-list stars to make or break it and YET it STILL made a handsome profit at the box-office AND it deserves a far higher rating than the measly 4.4 that it's been given here because of ALL the many Alien Invasion Type of films that have been thus far made I can't remember, although I'm sure I'll regret saying this, any off the top-of-my-head where 'Our Hero' didn't manage to single-handedly save the World from disaster as I believe Bill Pulman? did in Independence Day.That film MAY have been entertaining BUT my 'oh my were we the viewer expected to suspend believability when the President of the USA took to the skies?! In Skyline, ALL the actors work hard with a limited screenplay - Scottie Thompson, Eric Balfour, Donald Faison and David Zayas probably the most well-known of the cast. Good CGI advances the film fairly well and overall it's a quite decent movie IF you take into consideration its very small budget, which many of the commenters here appear NOT to have done. I for one thought it was decent enough all round and better than many other movies with far grander budgets that have subsequently lost millions!
Shadow of Fear (2012)
A superb TV Movie, don't miss it.
A great TV Movie that is extremely well acted by all concerned with a very sound plot that doesn't pull any punches while tackling a difficult subject matter is how I would describe this little gem.Starring Amanda Righetti as Casey Cooper who has her life turned around when she becomes the victim of a 'stalker'. She changes from an outgoing, extrovert and confident to a young lady who is afraid to venture outside or far from her home whilst receiving the statutory hate mail and endless 'phone-calls that the Police appear to have no power OR to her and her friends NO WILL to stop. This film drives on from start-to-finish and I guarantee will have you 'supporting' poor Casey and her friends as they fight against the seeming in-action of the local Police and her 'stalker' until they are unsure which exactly is the worst of the two? A brilliant support cast includes Will Estes,Harry Hamlin, Christie Burson and Eric Smzanda
The Journey of Natty Gann (1985)
A journey not to be missed!
When I saw Meredith Salenger in the Title role of (The Journey of) Natty Gann as a TV Movie shortly after it was made I literally fell in love with her and I've followed her career ever since. She played a child a few years younger than her true age - she was 15 playing a 12 year old I believe but was able to carry it off quite easily due to her ultra slim figure and being small for her age. In the film her father has to leave her alone while he goes looking for work across the other side of the States BUT she is soon in hot pursuit and thus her journey, adventure and the excitement begins and what a series of episodes it is. She befriends and is befriended by a human(a young John Cusack) and a Wolf and they all look out for one another. A wonderful film, extremely good performances with Scatman Crothers in one of his final roles.
Don't blink, you may miss something?
I think 6 out of 10 is a pretty fair mark for this film when you take into consideration the act that you have to balance it against some much better ones of the same Genre like those of the 'Bourne Trilogy' and 'Ronin' which I personally rate as 8/9. Liana Liberato played an obnoxious-know-it-all teen similar to her role in 'Trust' and she had different and valid reasons for her character in both but unlike another reviewer I don't see that as an excuse to give the film 1 star? Aaron Eckhart plays an ex-CIA agent living in Belgium and to HIS credit he keeps the action rolling along from the start to the end of the film which has plenty of fights, shootings, raid-car rides etc etc and Olga Kurylenko puts in an appearance as his former lady-friend who has now got herself seemingly into muddied waters? One actor I couldn't place was the person brought in specially to take care of matters towards the end of the film and who passes the note to the American Boss behind ALL the plans near the end of the film.At one point I thought it was Jean Reno having put on a few extra pounds considering he never actually speaks. Any ideas?
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
One of my Top Twenty Ever Movies!
Over 20 years after I first saw this film I have now decided to put 'pen to paper' so to speak and praise what I think is one of the most gripping murder movies made, with a host of actors from Jodie Foster, Scott Glenn,Anthony Heald, Ted Levine - who was a relative newcomer then - and of course Anthony Hopkins firmly at the top of their game. Everyone knows the story by now of how Clarice Starling(Foster) has not yet passed-out of the FBIs famous academy at Quantico when and where she is under the close supervision of one of its chiefs Jack Crawford(Glenn)and they are on the hunt for a serial-killer 'Buffalo Bill'. They or perhaps SHE seeks the assistance of Dr.Hannibal Lekter, a brilliant but disturbed criminal killer himself and she has intimate talks with him in his cell to garner information she hopes will help find 'Bill' before he kills more innocent young women in his most deranged and brutal way mutilating them. The only criticism I saw throughout the film was the plausibility of the situation Foster finds herself in towards the very end and whether that would be possible? I don't know - I 'm NOT in the FBI and having read the 'Trivia' I think this has been explained. Other than that, a brilliant film that just keeps delivering and when I saw it recently on Spanish TV for about the 5th time it was just as good as when I first saw it and there are very few films that you can say THAT about!
Ghost Adventures (2008)
The best of the spirit-finding progs!
Overall I have to say that I find the programme not only entertaining if that's the correct way of describing a show or series such as this but but also very interesting, reasonably professional in the approach by Zac Bagans and Co although I know that not everybody agrees with the aggressive, attacking manner in which he attempts to 'stir-up' his entities and the ONLY question I have is this! WHY oh' WHY when the team do hear or record an EVP, which the viewer can BARELY HEAR and which normally sounds as if the recorder is stood next to a running-tap to boot, WHY do they NOT take the recording somewhere, anywhere to have ALL the 'interference or other white noise' removed so the viewer can CLEARLY HEAR WHAT THE EVP has allegedly said???????????????????????
Ghost Lab: John Wilkes Booth (2009)
The Brothers Klinge hear and see what THEY want to!
Well I have to say I DO keep watching this programme in the hope that it WILL come-up with the goods sooner or later BUT as of yet it hasn't. SPOILER ALERT:- In this episode the Brothers Klinge go in search of the spirit of John Wilkes Booth and journey to the Granbury Opera House, Texas where he allegedly appeared after despaching President Abraham Lincoln. They then go on to other newer pastures where he took a new name and poison NOT actually expiring in the barn-fire as history has taught us. One of the brothers Klinge appears almost to have an orgasm as HE believes HE HEARS a voice, an EVP saying 'I AM JOHN WILKES BOOTH' in response to a question on one of his many machines.I think he heard exactly WHAT HE WANTED TO. I don't think ANYONE could determine what was said IF ANYTHINGand I believe THIS fact was borne out when Klinge sent the material to an independent digital voice expert who apparently removed all background noise, static etc and said when asked by Klinge if he could hear a voice to give a rating of between 1 to 10, 10 being great he gave a rating of 7 to 8 which confirmed a voice but HE WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM WHAT WAS SAID EVEN WHEN ALL UNNECESSARY 'OTHER' NOISE WAS REMOVED? In a nutshell this shows what a load of crap THIS whole series is and I think the people who assist the Klinge Brothers are either nuts or sycophants, the jury is still out on that at time of writing!
