The Walking Dead: Last Day on Earth (2016)
Terrible Cliffhanger, Amazing Episode
God this was a great episode all the way up until the final second. In the episodes leading up to this season finale, a few of Rick's gang have been taken and it all leads to this episode. While Rick tries to get Maggie to the Hilltop doctor, he is constantly blocked by the Saviors. First, Rick is incredibly arrogant, which is awesome, before the nerves get bigger and bigger each time they are turned around. It's an incredibly well done episode in building tension. At every turn, everyone is blocked, the Saviors one step ahead of them. Everything works out perfectly for the Saviors and terribly for our cast. The introduction of Negan was perfect, the acting was phenomenal, pacing was incredible, what a terrific ending to the season.
But..
Yeah, what an absolute abysmal of a cliffhanger. It just is a bad one to leave off on, it cuts off in the middle of a scene and then you have to wait 6 months. I was binge watching the show and had the privilege of watching the Season 7 premiere immediately after and even I was baffled by that ending. But absolutely solid episode besides that. 10/10, but with the cliffhanger, 8.5/10.
The Walking Dead: Do Not Send Us Astray (2018)
Awesome Episode
What a great episode coming in the, much better, later half of the season. Season 8 has certainly had its ups and downs and this is one of the biggest ups from the season coming off the high of episode 12. This was a tremendous episode in getting almost all our main characters on screen with some character development here and there spread out throughout the episode. Awesome that it started with the battle before shifting to the aftermath, the attack from the zombies, and then the aftermath of that. Also was very nice to see Rick and the Gang's plan actually work effectively (unlike in the first episode). But also to see the Saviors' plan work to its great effect as well. Nice back and forth.
This is a very underrated episode and keeps you engaged throughout. More great work from Andrew Lincoln trying to do everything in his power to think about anything other than Carl.
The Walking Dead: Honor (2018)
Not that bad
Now, we all know it, love him or hate him, Carl dying was one the dumbest things the show could've done and the dumbest thing the show did do. BUT, the execution of this episode and even the one before it was extremely well done. This was a very emotional episode with tremendous acting from, of course, Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, and Chandler Riggs. Yes, killing Carl was stupid but if you do it, this is how a major character death should be done. Especially on a scale of a Carl Grimes. Even though, I would've liked to see him do a bit more since from the beginning of the season the writers definitely knew what they were doing. We barely saw Carl up until the mid-season finale, and that I don't care for.
