Did they miss any clichés?
12 May 2008
Did they miss any liberal cliché?

Let's see: *the bible thumping freak...religious people are never normal in movies as of late...they are always fanatics and villains *the small town simple folk who are easily confused and dumb *the heroes are of course, artists and teachers and the like *the military is the bad guy *there was the speech about how the government was not funding education enough. Well, I think the only thing they missed was that "global warming" was somehow not involved. And the dumb country people did not all take up guns while clinging to their bibles. Well, they did take up knives. Is that close enough?

Well worth the wait
10 December 2005
On my birthday, December 6, in 2001, I remember a news item on the Fox News Channel announcing that Walden Media was also jumping into the fantasy book/movie craze and has just secured the rights for a film version of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I have been waiting ever since. And I can say it was well worth the wait.

The only major complaint I have is that they made too many small changes that I didn't see the point for.

Tilda Swinton, despite being miscast, gives an excellent performance as the White Witch and deserves an Oscar nomination. In fact, I would nominate this film for Best Picture.

Good job to everyone involved!

Interesting Documentary
8 July 2005
I found this documentary on "The Trip To Bountiful," to be very interesting. It starts out not only talking about this particular teleplay, but also about the Golden Age of Television. It also mentions the start of the Actors Studio and the great talent that came from there. There is also a great deal of character analysis by the actors that played them, and the cast and crew's memories of the late Geraldine Page. I would have liked to have seen more footage during the filming, but overall a good documentary. The only odd thing is that there was no mention of the character Thelma or the actress that played her, Rebecca De Mornay.

Kim Stanley is fantastic!
18 June 2004
This little seen film stars one of America's greatest actresses in one of Britian's greatest thrillers. Kim Stanley was an excellent Method actress. I agree that she very much reminds me of Geraldine Page, another brilliant actress. The way she says her lines, or uses her hands and face is very much like Page. (Ironically, Page turned down this role!)

I'm not going to get too much into the plot because I don't want to give too much away. If you want to know more about the plot, then check out some of the other comments. Let's just say great acting by the entire cast, and a good tense story, make for a night of suspense. So turn out the lights and enjoy!

PS: If you're looking for a copy of this video don't forget to check your public library.

Miracle (2004)
Proud to be an American
21 May 2004
This is one of those films that reminds people of the great things that Americans can accomplish. If you have any ounce of patriotism at all, then this movie is highly recommended. At the time that the actual event occured back in 1980, Americans were going through a very tough time. (The Carter Years...thank God there was only four of them!) This was just the thing that was needed to raise hope and morality. Nobody who saw the actual event will ever forget it!

Kurt Russel gives an excellent performance that should be recognized with an Oscar. The supporting cast is good as well. Overall, an enjoyable film. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 9.

Could have been better. Page is wasted!
28 February 2004
I checked this movie out from the library, because it's a free video rental. I liked the three major actors in it, so I figured it couldn't be that bad. And it wasn't all that bad. It just could have used some editing. It was long in some parts and moved too fast it places where it shouldn't have.

Ironically, with two comic leads some of the more funny moments come with Geraldine Page, who was then the First Lady of the American Theater. She also had a fairly memorable film career in which she recieved 8 Oscar nominations, not winning untill the eighth try! She earned her fifth nomination for this film, but unfortunatly her character is wasted! She only has about four scenes, alothough memorable, the movie doesn't make the best use of her talents.

Interesting Disney Documentary
23 December 2003
This documentary is one of the bonus features for the Pirates of the Caribbean DVD. Walt Disney explains how the attraction is set up and what the guests will see and experience. It's also interesting to see how Disneyland looked several years ago. Highly recommended for Disneyland buffs.

GREAT!!!!
14 November 2003
As excited as I was about the making of this movie, I also had reservations. I was afraid that the movie would not be faithful to the personalities of the characters that I loved. I went to the first showing at 11am on opening day...and I was very pleased! So much, so that when a friend invited me to join her to see the movie that very evening, I said yes! Good family film, that keeps you laughing the entire time! Can't wait for it to be out on DVD!!

Good collection of cartoons
15 July 2003
There was not anything entirely special about this, uh, special. However it is an enjoyable collection of Daffy Duck cartoons. There is the classic "Robin Hood Daffy" and "Duck Dodgers and the 24th and 1/2 Century." There is also a very funny cartoon about Daffy getting married to the wife from hell.

Good video for when you are missing Disneyland
12 July 2003
Anytime that I wish I was at Disneyland, I just put this video in. For this video, you can watch your favorite Disney characters experience the many attractions at Disneyland Resort. At the time of this writing it has not been updated, therefore it is hard to find. Any Disneyland collector probably has a copy!

Disney Hits the Jackpot
10 July 2003
This is definatly one of Disney's best achievments in recent years. It is also one of the best adventure films that I have seen in a long time, probably since Indiana Jones. A great cast, combined with a fantastic script, excellent sets, costumes, and special effects, and wonderful directing, and Disney has a movie which is worth viewing over and over again.

Page is fantastic!
2 July 2003
If you have seen a picture of Geraldine Page, then you know she was a plain looking woman. Yet in this film, through great acting, she manages to convince the audience that she is a glamour movie queen, and pulls it off! After seeing this film, quickly followed by The Trip To Bountiful, I now know why Meryl Streep herself once said, that "Geraldine Page set the standard by which all actresses try to compete with."

Funniest Film This Summer
1 June 2003
I don't think I have laughed this hard during an animated film since "Shrek." Ellen DeGeneras steals the whole movie as the voice of Dorey, a hyper fish suffering from short term memory loss. This film is filled with many funny scenes especially when Dorey tries to communicate with a whale! I loved it so much, I saw it twice in one day!

Where were the Emmy judges?
1 June 2003
Why was the film overlooked by the Emmy awards? There were so many good things about this film that deserved recognition. First of all, Ann Peacock's teleplay should not have gone unnoticed. Peacock managed to turn a 10 page short story into a 95 minute film, while keeping true to Hughes's style. The performances by Regina Taylor and Cherry Jones were top notch. The sets, costumes, hairstyling were all so good. This realy was overlooked.

The Whistler (1944)
Faithful to the Radio Series
25 March 2003
Fans of the radio series will not be dissapointed by this little gem of a thriller. Richard Dix gives a great performance as a man who puts a contract out on his own life. He is upset because he has not gotten over his wife drowning in the Pacific Ocean on a vacation three years ago. He then gets a wire saying his wife is alive, will be home soon, and now has to hurry and stop the contract. The only thing this was missing that was common in the radio play was a suprise ending. Very often in the radio series, it was never a question of whodunit, as it was often told through the killer's point of view, but it was how they were going to trip themselves up or get caught. And it was always with a twist.

A Beautiful Film
21 February 2003
Geraldine Page is most definatly one of the best actress in American film history. I this film, made just two years before she died, she plays Carrie Watts, a sixty year old living in a two room apartment with her son and daughter in law. For the past five year, Carrie has wanted only one thing, to go back to her hometown before she dies. Unfortunatly, her son and daughter-in-law think its a bad idea. Finding the right moment to escape, Carrie Watts runs away and begins The Trip To Bountiful.

A simple plot yes. But the acting is top notch. It's also kind of sad. Not just becuase of its bittersweet plot, but because of the timing. This film was first screened in early 1985 at the Sundance Film Festival, where it recieved great reviews. Released theatrically in the fall of 1985, it did well for an independant film and in March 1986, Page recieved her first Oscar on her 8th nomination, which was accompined by a standing ovation. Hollywood insiders said that Page's carrer would flourish again, and an adaptation of "The Glass Managerie" went into development, with Page to co-star with Paul Newman and Meryl Streep. 15 months after the Oscars, Page was dead, A heart attack claimed her life. She won an Oscar for her last leading role.

Utterly Original
5 February 2003
By the time I actually got to see this film, I already knew about the plot twist. But that didn't make this film any less enjoyable. With a fantastic script by Neil Jordan and a great cast, with Miranda Richardson a standout as a heartless IRA terrorist, this is one of the best films of modern times. A must for the thinking man!

Classic Disney Halloween Cartoon
6 January 2003
Like "Lonesome Ghosts" and "Trick or Treat" this is part of the Disney Halloween Cartoon Trilogy. The story is simple as it is for most cartoons: Ajax, the killer gorilla has escaped from the city zoo and is in the area. You can guess where he turns up! Full of laughs!

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

Messenger Boy Donald is on his way to deliever a mysterious package. The person who gave him the package told him not to drop it and to be sure that it got to the place of delievery by midnight. Donald then relizes that it is Friday the 13th and pretty soon he crashes into a mirror, goes under a ladder, and is haunted by a black cat. Then he hears the package ticking....

Enjoyable and a bit suspensful. Although there a couple of frustrating parts but nothing too bad.

The Great American Film
3 January 2003
While many fans and scholars debate as to what the Great American Novel is, it should be no question as to what the Great American Film is. The obvious answer: Citizen Kane. Many people will ask what is it about Citizen Kane that makes it so great. Well, it's a combination of several things. One, it has a fantastic script. Two, it has the greatest ensemble of actors ever. And three, it is told by Orson Welles, the greatest storyteller ever, with the exception of maybe Walt Disney.

The Best Movie That Disney Never Made
30 December 2002
This film has all the traits of a great Disney film. The only problem with it: IT WASN'T DISNEY. Steven Speilberg once again spread his magic across the world. And while this is a wonderful film, I still can't believe that this was the highest grossing film for a long time. Star Wars was only five years old when ET came out so how did Et out gross the biggest popcorn movie of them all?

Die Hard Disney Fans Might Be Dissatisfied
29 December 2002
Warning: Spoilers
All in all, this wasn't that bad. It had a good premise, and a good collection of cartoons. As a die hard Disney fan I had just a couple of complaints. WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

First, the House of Villains segment, kind of the wraparound part is short and ends rather abruptly. Its as if the animators got tired of drawing and looked for a quick way to end this. They included a lot of cartoons in between, some new and some classic. Why didn't they just release A Disney Halloween (AKA Halloween Treat) on DVD. My second complaint is the types of villains that got the most attention. Very few classic ones did. Malificent from Sleeping Beauty had only one line while the Wicked Queen from Snow White had only one. Not a bad movie, but I expected more. Word of advice: Rent it first before buying it!

A Lesson Before Dying (1999 TV Movie)
One of the Best TV Movies Ever
29 December 2002
I read the book not that long ago, and had been trying for some time to locate this HBO version for some time. I finally recieved it as a Christmas present and watched it. It was fantastic! Screenwriter Ann peacock and director Joseph Sargent did a fantastic job bring Ernest Gaines' novel to the small screen. It's worth seeking out!

Interesting "Making Of" Feature
28 December 2002
This documentary which shows how Snow White came to life, was released on the Platinum Edition DVD of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" as one of the many bonus features. The most interesting thing was how much the animators improved on their drawing from 1934 to the finished product. Definatly worth a view.

Not Too Bad
28 December 2002
For the past several years, Hollywood has brought classic cartoons to the screen. "The Flintstones" "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" and "Josie and the Pussycats" to name a few. It was inevitable that "Scooby Doo" would come to the big screen. Well this certainly isn't the best (The Flintstones) and it certainly isn't the worst (Josie and the Pussycats). The cast is pretty good, especially the actor that plays Shaggy. The story is stupid but funny. This film is in the same situation as "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle." If you didn't appreciate the cartoon, then you will hate this movie!
