The Curious Case of Natalia Grace (2023)
This was so deeply heartbreaking.
A lot of the reviews are talking about how the documentary was confusing, and while the material itself is confusing, I was able to follow the directors main drive. That's where I am deeply saddened and disturbed. When you think about the facts of this case, when you lay it all out there you can clearly see that Natalie WAS a child and suffered extreme abuse. It is so so clear, and I think you can come to that conclusion even before hearing from the dad. She was constantly in distress, in bad hygiene, hungry, and confused! She had no understanding of social cues and displayed distressing behavior. But she was 9 years old abandoned and suffering. I wanted to write this in case the directors of this documentary just happen to be reading comments. How could you! How could you make this documentary with such a vivid image that Natalie was a child, and solely focus on her abuser? The documentary continued to paint the narrative that she is creepy, she is something to be fear, it has three episodes that just blast her for being a social inadequate neighbor. But not bringing it back around to say "hey, you know why people might have thought she was weird? Because they thought she was 26 when in reality she was A CHILD"!!!!
My heart breaks for her. I really hope if there is anything more to be documented on this, that they take time to make right what this documentary got so so grossly wrong! This was neglect. It was complete neglect of someone who was the most vulnerable you can be. A child with a disability! I hope she is loved, I hope she is cared for and I hope she finds peace! And I hope everyone who made this documentary takes a moment to recognize the storyline they've chosen to follow is grossly unjust!
I loved the lady narrator, I believe she was an attorney, who lad out the facts for us, or else this documentary would have had nothing sustainable. Also she was hot.
ANYWAYS!!! This was terrible and heartbreaking. It should have been about justice for this poor girl. Thanks.
A League of Their Own (2022)
Fantastic Queer historical masterpiece that MUST be renewed
This show was beautiful. Every scene was important and radical. The chemistry between all the characters was so so good. It was a dream to see black joy respectfully told, aswell as a healthy queer relationship. Greta and Carson are so so cute, and for the whole LGBTQIA community I really hope this show is renewed. The dialogue was impactful. The shots were wonderful, and the baseball playing was so fun. I can imagine the cast vibing together so well. A huge sucess for women everywhere to see their mark in the history of baseball. Anyways yes incredible show. I hope there is a second season. And I hope Carson and Greta can be together .
The Crown (2016)
Truly a Masterpiece EVERY Season
It is challenging to put into words how gorgeous this show is. As someone who grew up, not really caring about the royal family, this show gives new life into a story we all know. I started watching once Diana was introduced, as she was and is the most brilliant part of the royal family to date. I wasn't born during her time, but I genuinely feel as though she was too good for with world. Too Beautiful to die, to wild to live, and given a heartbreaking reality after being swept into the madness that is the monarchy. Throughout the season the casting has been absolutely stunning, every actor steps up to the plate and gives their all and we learn to love this story. I believe that the royal family has done a lot of damage in the world, and a lot of what they've done has created discourse, poverty, and unfairness for other countries... But seeing the parts of their story brought to life through this show, you connect with them more intimately, and find some common ground in understanding why they did what they did. The ridged tradition of this family sometimes is challenging to watch, but you start to understand why people adore this abstract life. I'm so thankful for this show- not only for the story but just for being brilliant TV to watch. It is rare these days to have such a thought out and passionate show with a cast that blows you away. In this new season, although we will miss Oliva Colmon immensely, I already know that Imelda will shine bright in this role. She is such a talented actress and we are so lucky to have her represent the next years of the queens life.
Anyways, for anyone deciding to watch this show..DO! It is exdraodinary in every way.
The Woman King (2022)
A kiss to my African heart
The history of the Dohomy kingdom has its truths in bedding the slave trade, and all of its history is not good. With that, this movie brought the tradition, music, vibrance, and joy into its African roots. It made me weep, this movie made me cheer and above else the movie made me proud. I often say that there are too many movies about black oppression and not enough about black liberation and joy. While this centers itself on a dark part of our history, its power in sharing our culture and our fight for freedom was moving to the core. This cast was PERFECT!!!! Nawi was incredible. Amazing acting, amazing script. Viola Davis again stuns with her ability to stay powerful and vulnerable at the same time. I fully believe that this movie should win awards and be recommend to those seeking to find power in their heritage. I will say I did not think the mixed love interest was necessary, but he was beautiful. The music is original and brought me to my time studying in Ghana. The dancing was so powerful I had to pause the movie to take a break and weep. Thank you for making this movie, thank you for leading the way into black liberation that does not center itself around the death of black bodies in America. I hope this can be seen by all races, genders, and religions as a movie that builds bridges, and makes folks realize the battles we had to go through to be seen. I know this is a gateway to so much more. Thank you!
