Not enough plot

Coming toward the end of this fine Adam & Eve series, it becomes clear that a decision to downplay the soap opera and emphasize the XXX content was in force.

The set-ups to the five sex scenes are minimal, with most of the action not explicitly sexual related to Chi Chi LaRue's stage routine at a nightclub frequented by the four femme stars.

Chi Chi and a fellow drag queen Ms. Bradley (dressed identically) perform a duet on stage with name-dropping French phrases and celebrity names (Edith Piaf, Josephine Baker), but Chi Chi makes a series of rude and derogatory remarks aimed at our heroine Monica (played by Keri Windsor), resulting in an altercation. Making matters worse, Monica's current boy friend John West is with her, but he gets caught humping blonde Michelle Michaels.

Other scene are mundane: Annie (Dee) hooking up with an old flame of her pal Tori, played by Randy Spears, and Tori (Asia Carrera) dallying with another familiar face, Nikko Knight.

Setpiece, forecast by a chance encounter in the last "Birthday" episode has birthday girl Nina Hartley taking up Ernest Greene on his "come visit me" proposition, and ending up in bondage for a lesbian threesome with busty fetish ladies Amber Michaels and Jewel Marceau.

Episode title is a treat: taking the name of the jazz hit by Les McCann and Eddie Harris, which I heard played endlessly on the radio way back in 1970.

Familiar issues, nice cast

No new ground in this edition of the hit series, with preying on young'uns the principal activity.

In the opening segment, Angela Sommers stroking Shyla Jennings body as she supposedly counsels her about not worrying about her confusing adolescent impulses is so overt as to represent red meat being cast in front of the lesbian-sex-obsessed viewer.

Then Bree Daniels is similarly seduced by Shyla's mom Jelena Jensen, with the first half of the show closely resembling a Mother/Daughter Exchange Club release.

Third scene is related (not adhering to the series' usual 4 separate vignettes format), as university official Cherie DeVille warns Bree and Aussie exchange student Sally Charles about the repercussions of exhibiting lesbian PDA (affection) at school but is soon teaching them Sapphic sex technique en route to a threesome.

Finale is stand-alone, and brings in a couple of uncredited guest stars. Scene opens with Daisy Layne and Elexis Monroe making love, which disturbs their roommate Nikki Daniels, who hears the moans of pleasure emanating from the bedroom.

Nikki complains to a fourth roommate Tanya Tate, who advises the naughty couple to cool it. But Layne seduces the shy Nikki instead.

Okay sex scenes but nothing special.

Cast of Jacky St. James' drama is unlike most porn films, 3 of the 5 players aged over 50 and the other two no spring chickens. It's appropriate for a story about infidelity and life choices.

Production manager Shawn Alff penned the screenplay, which has real estate co. boss Marcus London seducing both of his femme employees, Silvia Saige and Vera King, and falsely promising each of them a partnership in the firm.

Meanwhile, London's wife Reagan Foxx is having an affair with Saige's husband Tommy Gunn.

I enjoyed the video's central theme, concerning Gunn's plans to suddenly relocate to the Caribbean (from California), taking wife Saige with him, while she wants to stay put to pursue her career.

Alff also throws an earthquake into the scenario, and even pops up briefly as a house hunter being shown around a prospective property to buy by Silvia.

It all ends with a surprise ending, and thanks to the able cast is sexually satisfying, it a wee bit too pat.

Gazzman is a prolific Brit Porn director whose masterpiece was 2003's "The Scottish Loveknot". Since then he has largely abandoned storytelling to dwell on gonzo entertainment, but there's a humorous note of Scottishness in this edition of his hit Young Harlots series.

If he had made this feature a couple of years later he would have had Scots porn star Georgie Lyall in the cast, but some fine femmes show up, led by icons Sam Bentley and Franki. Danny D lends some lightheartedness to the sex scenes, and in general there is a veering away from the series' jail-bait emphasis to having more mature ladies impersonating teenagers in the cast.

Bud Lee stoops to conquer with this unabashadly gonzo effort for Sin City, insulting to his otherwise rather impressive directorial career.

The scene set-ups last only a few fleeting seconds before the players start humping, with "all anal" as the advertisement goes being an exaggeration but close enough to keep the gonzo fans happy.

Mocha has a double-vaginal penetration by two white boys (Tyce Bune and Cheyne Collins) while equal time has the uninhibited star Melanie Jagger taking on Byron Long and Sledge Hammer together.

Sloppy credits list Lee Stone, who doesn't show up; not credited is Nikko Knight, who humps blonde Brittaney Starr -perhaps he was a replacement for Lee.

Nearly a masterpiece

I have been quite disappointed with Jonathan Morgan's films in recent years: a series of silly and often poorly made features under contract to Wicked Pictures. His early career as actor and director was quite different, as evidenced by this terrific romantic thriller starring Serenity made 23 years ago.

Perhaps the difference is in scripting, nearly a lost art in 21st Century porn. Since industry critics and fans have been consistently vocal about their disdain for story scenes (sex is all in today's gonzo era), the lack of decent screenplays of late is easy to understand -no one appreciates them.

Here we have a highly literate script, with references to Nathaniel West and Nabokov's "Lolita" (where the title Indigo Delta is derived), by Martin Brimmer/Rodger Jacobs whose work includes such estimable films as Nic Cramer's "Looker" and Morgan's "The Gate".

The best dialog comes from Tom Byron, cast as a philosophical guy with Southern drawl who happens to be in prison as a serial killer. Serenity is fed up with her success as romance novelist "Genevieve Gerard", and wants to be taken seriously as a writer under her real name Sophie Lyons, so she interviews Byron in prison.

His critique of contemporary society and pride in his "artistic" work as a killer has a profound effect on Sophie, who has erotic dreams and nightmares as well as changing her own behavior, the subject of the movie.

Morgan's control of moods, ranging from highly romantic scenes to horror segments, would do him well in his current career rather than directing all-sex movies or dumb comedies.

Serenity's beauty dominates the show, and there's also a strong sexual performance by superstar of the future Stephanie Swift as a hotel maid dominated by Serenity.

Minus Bill Murray

Pornographers never made a "Groundhog Day XXX" in their never-ending quest to earn bucks ripping off mainstream hits, but Missa X frequently returns to the concept of the Bill Murray hit in her fantasy videos for MissaX and Allherluv labels.

I especially enjoyed the Brechtian device Missa uses here, as each sequence is preceded by a title card reading "Try 33", "Try 34", "Try 35", etc., to indicate the daily iterations of the story.

Her digital alarm clock wakes up Ivy Wolfe daily at 8 a.m., to relive the day. Taking a religious approach this time, Missa postulates God giving our heroine a chance (over and over) to correct the errors she made one day, and possibly earn a different future.

The change she seeks is to win the love of Chad White, a former lover who ended up marrying her best friend Charlotte, not her. Whether earnestly or sometimes comically, we see Ivy try to manipulate and seduce Chad, who turns out to be a tough nut to crack, devoted to Charlotte despite Ivy's varied arguments, religiosity and cleverness. Ultimately it will be sexiness, not piety, that wins the day.

Ivy is a talented actress toiling in the XXX genre, atypical in both looks and body type, but certainly popular with MissaX fans. One of the label's most interesting variations on this theme stars Avi Love, in "Another Life", written/directed by Whitney Wright.

Very fine plot twist

Styled as a suspense thriller, this otherwise ordinary porn feature is uplifted by a clever plot twist that is worthy of a mainstream movie.

Alex Jordan is the heroine and Tiffany Million gets the juicy role of troublemaker in this war of wills. Tiffany plays an author working for publisher Mike Horner, who is Alex's fiance. Early on, Tiff declares her goal of breaking up the lovers, to take Horner for herself.

The gals' rivalry climaxes in an unusual showdown at a restaurant patio, where they angrily come to blows. The violence immediately turns into passionate sex (in front of curious extras as onlookers) as director Michael Craig takes artistic license (porno division) in having heroine Alex turn on a dime to go down full-bore on evil Tiff.

Friendly couple Leanna Foxxx and Marc Wallice figure prominently in the action, and the final twist fooled me completely.

Kaitlyn Ashley is mighty smug, even remarking at one point; 'I'm the mother of all flirts", in this trivial porn video. It's not up to the usual high standard of director Roy Karch's work.

Nice vignettes by Dana Vespoli, who makes her usual cameo appearance as a doctor in a sketch titled "The Munchausen Syndrome".

No, it's not a Terry Gilliam knock-off, but instead nurse Karlie Montana humoring hypochondriac patient Mia Malkova. They make for a quite sensual pair.

Some arousing breast worship occurs in "I Can Kiss Like a Boy", where butch Carter Cruise plays a femme deejay who makes mincemeat out of condescending MILF Jelena Jensen who's expecting a male jockey (name Carter threw her off) in a segment that proves that experienced pros make for apt casting.

Finale departs from this long-running Sweetheart series' main premise as we watch a lesbian threesome at a slumber party of AJ Applegate, Kenna James and Aidra Fox. It doesn't work for a long-held kiss format at all and sophisticated Aidra is blatantly miscast playing a teen.

More of the same

The conclusion to this lousy porno soap opera is as pointless as the first volume, merely adding several new faces (and bodies) to the cast for sex variety.

Plot finally gets developed a bit in uninteresting fashion concerning college dean Steven St. Croix embezzling millons of dollars of university funds to finance his political campaign, running for the U.S. senate. His school colleague Alec Knight is caught up in the scheme, but the script's handling of blackmail schemes is flat and yawn-inducing. At no time does auteur Ryder whip up the hothouse over-dramatics of a soap that fans enjoy or is worth lampooning.

Christie Stevens is predictably the hottest of the cast additions, while Vyxen Steel doesn't even get a character name and seems like she wandered in from some random Joanna Angel tattoo-oriented shoot.

Misses the mark

The porn-parody team of Will Ryder and Scott David have made big bucks ripping of mainstream entertainment (ranging from "Grease" to "The Brady Bunch") but stub their toes with this 2-part, poorly scripted lift from the long-running TV soap opera.

Beyond Ryder's customary poor writing and direction, the causes of failure are obvious. Porn-parody works for a segment of the Adult Cinema audience craving nostalgia and also the knee-jerk impulse along the lines of "wouldn't it be fun to see Lt. Uhura have sex with Kirk or Spock or both?". But the daytime soap lacks anyone to make fun of (beyond Eric Braeden, who made me a fan of his way back when he starred in classics like "Colossus" and "The Rat Patrol"), and Ryder only steals the title.

Story is set in a small college town and concerns two families; that of college dea Steven St. Croix and board of trustees member Alec Knight.

Somehow Ryder managed to forget injecting any humor or satire in the deadly dull happenings here. Much of story/character-driven porn (especially that which is aimed at women or couples from labels like Adam & Eve or Sweet Sinner) is soap opera, so this pair of features plays like uninspired Adult content, not parody.

Sorely missing are the dramatics or over-dramatics of campy soaps like Joan Collins in Dynasty. Adam & Eve's "Dallas XXX", not made by Ryder, was a far more viable project.

We're left with a nothing role and nothing performance by Holly Heart as St. Croix's addicted wife, and a slew of jail-bait actresses taking up space led by no-name, poorly cast lead Bentley as Steven & Holly's daughter.

Musical score chosen by Ryder is very poor, sometimes mickey-mousing the action but often seeming random.

Nice peformances, but too low-budget

Jim Enright has made many fine porn features, for top labels like Wicked Sin City but "Immortal Lust" was made for his own company Klimaxxx Prods. suffers from low-budgetitis.

With a functional George Kaplan script, we meet female private eye Anne Arkey (her punning name apologized for in voiceover) well-played as tough guy by Kylie Ireland, in obvious pitch for creation of a series.

Kaplan has written himself a major screen role, playing Kylie's client in search of a long-lost stone that belonged to sorcerer Merlin, which holds the key to immortality. He affects his favorite accent for the part, a quasi-imitation of Sean Connery (at least as he would be in a SNL satirical sketch) and delivers tons of verbal exposition.

Also vying for the stone are Peter North and Missy, latter supposedly playing Morgan le Fay, part of Arthurian legend. Missy is quite a scene-stealer, more sexy here than our ultra-sexy leading lady Kylie.

Lack of any action scenes, and sorely in need of some missing special effects, the movie looks more like a 1-day wonder with superstars in the cast than a fully realized private eye action/sex feature. When North recites a Merlin spell, it sounds more like pig latin or some romance language than the expected Welsh.

Missa takes on another genre

I have been resistant to the recently popular Hotwifing porn genre, as both Dorcel versions and numerous Jacky St. James efforts are unconvincing: merely some guy getting off on having another man hump his wife, and the wife pleased with the opportunity.

Missa X takes the project seriously, attempting to delve into the psychology of the participants in this strange phenomenon. I remained unconvinced but at least she tried.

Released on her Allherluv website in two parts, the hotwifing is set up by a conversation by old pals Codey Steele and Michael Vegas concerning Vegas's marriage gone cold. We never see his wife "Charlotte", but Codey feels sorry for him and offers up his lovely wife Casey Calvert to satisfy Mike's sex urges, rather than have the pal go the prostitute route.

Casey is reluctant, but of course orgasmic once Michael humps her. For Part 2 of the saga she reveals her erotic fantasy of having sex with two studs at once, leading to a threesome.

Anal sex and double penetration are rarities in Missa's ouvre, so providing that sort of content to her fans is clearly part of the motivation here. But as to the credibility of the protagonists' motivation, the feature falls short.

James Avalon achieved a career highpoint with his film Les Vampyres (plus a sequel) at the turn of this century, and returns to the same theme and style, but in vignette form, in this Penthouse release. It is unusual in that it is a Jill Kelly production rather than off the Penthouse assembly line.

One segment is done in period costume plus a Hollywood castle replete with moat, featuring superstar Jenna Haze in acrobatic sex positions, serviced by Marco Banderas (clad strikingly in chain mail).

The other bite 'em and hump 'em segments are more contemporary, including an unbilled cameo as an old-looking vampire by fellow director Fred Lincoln, who bites Lexi Love on the neck and then magically changes into Nick Manning for the XXX 'droppin' loads!" content.

Okay escapism

Lovely location photography, on an island and on a boat at sea, redeem this otherwise trivial romance.

Jon Dough must get married by his birthday next week to inherit per his late parents' will, and proposes to Krista before a roaring fireplace; cue XXX scene No. 1.

Marc Wallice captains a boat, wearing a decorative eye patch no less, with Dough, Krista and four beauties aboard, so we have a very lengthy but satisfying lesbian foursome in the shower.

Dough is accidentally knocked overboard by a swinging mast, and washes up on a tiny island. Kia, sporting utterly beautiful and fake breasts, has been stranded on that island for 12 years and makes love to Jon.

That's about it for this feature, which suffers mightily from the '90s porn ploy of making two for one movies - basically a movie released in two parts. After a meager 70 minutes we see previews of the completing half titled naturally "Paradise Lost" (which includes Kia being humped by Jon while wearing, predictably, her wedding gown).

Not exactly riveting entertainment.

Solid sequel

Bob Chinn's private eye Peter Magnum gets a new casting (Lee Stone replacing Billy Glide) in this well-done sequel to "Magnum Love". Same cast returned in a third volume, "Naked Angels".

Title recalls Chinn's classic Johnny Wadd feature "The Jade Pussycat". This time Magnum is searching for the statuette that's been missing for 80 years and is currently up for sale from an old chum played by John Decker.

A terrific femme cast is involved in the caper, including several of the most talented ladies of the VHS era: Asia Carrera, Ava Vincent (as Magnum's secretary), Gwen Summers as Decker's young sister and villainess Nikita Denise. Chinn delivers seven full-length XXX scenes showcasing the gals, though top-billed Asia has perhaps the most minor of their roles.

Humor from Missa

Whitney Wright and Jill Kassidy have a great deal of fun playing childish pranksters in this pretentiously titled yet cutesy romp from Missa X.

They meet their match in Chad White (trio also starred memorably in Missa's feature "The Governess"), a dad who doesn't take kindly to their harassing and bullying (all off-screen, merely mentioned verbally) his daughter at school.

His insistence on their halting the bad activity has the girls TP-ing his house, causing Chad to threaten police action, causing the girls to have a threesome with him instead. Their "oh daddy!" role-play while having hot sex fits in with Missa's endless series of fauxcest videos.

All three actors excel at this heightened form of acting, with amusing and sexy results.

This brand of primitive Brit porn may have served a purpose once upon a time -sort of like the buy local attitude we see here in the states in "America Strong" movements, but Ben Dover's unprofessional approach is both dated and nearly unwatchable when stacked against pro porn.

He has a couple of pro studs, Alberto Rey and Pascal White on hand, but otherwise this is backyard filmmaking, beneath the level of a typical home movie. One might compare it with Omar Williams' coterminous "Big Omar" comedies, much to the detriment of Ben Dover/Steve Perry's junk.

The sex is mechanical; the girls random, and the guys' repartee merely stupid, all of it dominated by Perry's familiar mindless stream-of-consciousness gibberish (he calls it that rightly at one point) on the soundtrack to fill dead air.

Well-written and performed dark dramedy

Missa X flexes her unique writing abilities with this dark tale of infidelity and deception. It struck me as porn talent analogous to that strange Greek director who scored Oscar gold with "The Favourite" (best actress: Olivia Colman) the same year as this release.

Jill Kassidy hires Whitney Wright as a governess for her child, after determining that WW is a lesbian and thereby no threat regarding her husband Chad White who cheated on her recently. Soon they have lesbian sex together.

That constitutes the first part of this 2-parter, titled "The Governess: Deception" and released by Missa's lesbian sex label Allherluv. What makes it unique is that WW is not just a lesbian but presented as a Catholic religious fanatic, tantamount to being a nun (despite the obvious sexual contradiction).

The full-length version running an hour is the MissaX label release, with delightful twists acted to the hilt by Whitney and also involving White as the husband. It adds up to an immensely entertaining movie, making a fine companion piece to the trio's "The Principle of Causality", a far more lighthearted romp.

Ray Victory plays the quack head of A.A.S.: the Aggressive Analists Society, with ultra-busty Chessie Mooe running a phony retreat for folks seeking aid in performing anal sex. Eric Edwards, one of Adult Cinema's all-time acting greats, directed "Smart Ass", this silly video.

Tom Byron and his wife Brittany are clients, and each of them is treated to a threesome without their spouse. Oddest scene features the team of Steve & Susan Vegas, with Steve humping Chessie in the ass, then Susan putting on her strap-on dildo and creating a sandwich by pegging Steve in a threesome.

Slapstick and verbal humor is weak, but Edwards keeps the energy flowing in this minor entertainment.
