Halo: Inheritance (2022)
Complete garbage
Whoever thought this episode would be even good or necessary should be sacked. The series has been slow enough in developing and this dead weight brought it back to zero. Spielberg must not be paying attention to his own production.
Halo (2022)
It's a Sci-Fi series with the Halo title
Okay we all know there is a thing called taking certain liberties to make a show a certain way, let's call it more "palatable" for the everyviewer. I don't expect this series to be a faithful-to-the-tee story, however, there is a line you have to balance on what you can create more drama with and still connect with viewers.
This show fails miserably by alienating the millions of Halo fans out there familiar with the games in favor of making a stretched out drama smattered too conservatively with great action sequences. It attempts to delve into character developing and world building, but forgets where it all came from and doesn't care about where it's going.
There is such a great storyline and a gargantuan Haloverse already written that can be wisely picked from and still honor the original while being entertaining. I love that the Chief is more of an absolute in the game, lending more of a mystique to the story in the way the Joker was in The Dark Knight. Leave the human drama to the other characters. Overall, the series is a mess for such a cultural phenomenon and one of the greatest fictional heroes ever created. You're better off watching the Halo Movie on YouTube, a fan created film comprised of all the cutscenes from all the games in chronological order, of which there are many and far more interesting than the series wants to be.
Home Free: Tebow Time (2016)
Noisier, busier and more convoluted than the first season
The first season was a decent watch and surprise for each contestant was great to see. With season two, the producers brought it upon themselves to throw in the cliche' Survivor, American Ninja and Game Of Games elements with silly challenges that range from cutting drywall or fishing for keys and smashing soda bottles with a bulldozer. Then there's the drama, backstabbing and Tim Tebow. That's right, Tom Tebow. Sure the man does some great philanthropy and was a decent ball player, but his addition just makes no sense. He tends to be overly annoying than inspiring (he brings up his own "Don't give up" schpiel too often) buzzing about the contestants man-splaining.
The Chi: Foe 'Nem (2020)
A conundrum of sorts
Jason Mitchell was fired from the show because of inappropriate behavior on set as reported by his co-star Tiffany Boone, who also left the show on her own accord. It feels as if the writers opted for an easy end to Brandon's character instead of taking the time to think through his story arc, which could have gone so many different ways. The result is disjointed and jarring. I also feel the show has lessened its edge in favor of being more light hearted. I'm a native Chicagoan and life, especially on the south and west sides can be brutal. I don't get a sense of that in the show anymore. There needs to be a balance to keep it real.
