I love how they portrayed these small details (for a fantasy-scifi as SG-1 is).
For example -- time lag, the whole radio communication. It's very similar to communication with a real ATC for example (but still -- fantasy/scifi :-D)
Other thing, it's clever, it's not trying to do something "big" or anything spectacular, they are just there, proffesionals who know what to do, how to behave during a distress.
That is, at least by my opinion, the major issue of many current sci-fis with some kind of "army" there -- you have a Colonel with more like 20 years of expierences and they are bratty stupid clichés.
